    Thanks man. I didn't remove the ball joint and it saved me some work. Thanks for the video. I went and bought the 1/2" impact and that made it super easy.

    I usually remove the strut bolts, seems easier than removing the ball joint. Either way an alignment is recommended. Either way works tho💯

      Yeah, after wasted time unsuccessfully trying the ball joint method, I removed the strut bolts. I outlined the position with a sharpie before removing bolts which aided in reassembly. Several videos show the ball joint method for my nissan rogue. For my outback they show the strut method. Even 1a. Would not attempt the strut method again. They should redo this version IMHO.

    Easier way to get the ball joint out. If the control arm has ever been replaced (likely if you are driving an '09 Rogue) there is probably a dimple in the middle of the ball stud. Put a punch attachment on your air hammer and angle it downwards with the point resting on the dimple. (The shaft of the punch will be alongside the axle hub.) Pull the trigger and watch the stud gradually inch downwards - it doesn't damage the stud or anything else. Pretty nice n' easy. This even worked for me for the older ones when there wasn't a dimple in the stud, but the dimple makes it easier.

    The pinch bolt nut was only torqued to 20 ft-lb? Are you sure that is the correct torque spec?

    • @louadams4942
      @louadams4942 2 роки тому +1

      Yes the pinch bolt holds the balljoint not the pressure of the pinch 🧐

    Thanks. 10:30...I can't get The axle fully back in the hub so it pokes out enough to put the nut on to pull it out.

    on models with aluminum rims, the lug nuts are 21mm and not 19mm. and the lower control arm has to come completely off in order to get the ball joint out of the spindle. it will not come out otherwise. it will hit on the frame.

    When I try to put the driver side axel back it it doesn’t go in all the way and when I look in the hole I see a thick metal cylinder pin blocking it deep inside making it not be able to go all the way inside. Any suggestions or help?

    Is this an AWD model or 2WD? And if so is there a difference in the process? A shop told me that there was a front subframe assembly that had to be removed to do this repair because my rogue is AWD.

    Could you separate the knuckle from the top instead of the ball joint?

    • @johnj05
      @johnj05 5 років тому +1

      Yes, you could separate it from the shock (top mount). But you will change your alignment and have to get it reset.

    • @milkman2591
      @milkman2591 5 років тому +3

      Ive separated from the top and it didnt affect my alignment, I replaced the knuckle, ball joints and wheel hub and she still drove straight as an arrow after

  • @iwanta29r
    @iwanta29r 5 років тому +5

    You don't need the ball joint press. You need a ball joint separator.

    • @imhooks
      @imhooks 2 роки тому +1

      You also don't even need to fool with the ball joint at all for this repair. Just take out the 2 21mm bolts off the strut above and the whole knuckle drops down to give room to remove the axle.

    Dealer quoted $800 for a driver side CV axle replace. Even worse, on the same quote they had:
    Lower control arm bushings $1150
    Transmission replace $4280
    So the estimate bills for the same labor multiple times. Somebody has to sue one of these days.

    My knuckle was seized to the ball joint to the point where I had to replace both. Ended up cutting the knuckle off with a cutoff wheel.

    • @aprilsonner3286
      @aprilsonner3286 2 роки тому

      In FL for one side $300 to $400. Or buy your own part and they'll just charge you labor. Don't let them BS you. It takes under an hour. Really 30 minutes for an experienced mechanic to install. It should cost no more than what they charge for 1 hour of labor. You could cut your cost in half buying the part(s) yourself.

    • @dissectionproductions8783
      @dissectionproductions8783 3 роки тому +3

      Tip: Turn the axle.. Try to pry/hammer it out.. Then turn again and try to pry again. Keep going that.. Eventually the the c ring will line up nicely and let you pop it out..

    is the axle nut reverse threads?

  • @tommyjackson5330
    @tommyjackson5330 3 роки тому

    When he was taking that nut off he was turning it to the right as he would tighten it as right handed thread then he says I'm going to take the nut off then he was turning it to the left what's up with that?

      they used a different style hammer. its a dead blow hammer, not made with steel. no deformation on the new part would be possible

  • @scarface17857

    That ball joint separator tool is unnecessary all you need is a couple wacks with a hammer and a prybar.

      +scarface17857 We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair.

    • @FloridaMan7337
      @FloridaMan7337 3 роки тому

      I just did this job and it didn't free up with PB blaster and a few hammer wacks. This one was a bit more of a pain. The best tool to use is an air hammer with a 18 inch pneumatic taper punch. That'll get it off the quickest.
