    I think it is great to call out Jamie's level of service. As I've recently started buying dress shoes from new to me brands, I've been impressed with the genuine desire to assist with a proper fit before you receive the shoes. I ordered a pair from TLB Mallorca and the owner emailed me to check on my sizing before they shipped the shoe. Based on our communication they made a small modification to the shoe. It was a great experience.

      That's great to hear about TLB. I think service is often overlooked. As I have gotten older, it has also become more and more important to me to support companies and people who are truly passionate about what they are making for others, and who run there business on the pillar of "How can I provide an exceptional product to my clients?" as opposed to "How can I maximize my profit margins?" Every business has to be realistic about making money, and there is nothing wrong with that. For me, it more comes down to which comes first, profit or quality. I want Yearn and Arterton to grow. I want the values by which they run their business to grow and propagate. The more businesses we have that are passionate about their product, the better.

    Additional Disclosure for Transparency:
    Upon completion of the video, Yearn & Arterton provided input that resulted in three edits to the video, which constituted three factual errors I made, specifically 1) Stating the shoe has a 270-degree welt when it actually has a 360-degree welt, 2) Noting the half-lining on the interior of the shoe being a defect when it is an intentional feature to provide breathability, and 3) The notation that the out-of-the-box odor was due not only to adhesives in the shoe, but primarily to the patina of the shoe.

    Hello,
    I just had to leave a comment at the quality of your video. I don't really even care that much about dress shoes that are this dressy or high end, but I don't know why I got sucked into your video and ended up watching all the way to the end (admittedly, at 2x speed...don't judge me lol).
    The quality of your production as well as your observation and discussion of detail made you come across as very knowledgeable on the subject, and your occasional outbursts (give this man a raise!) added a relaxation to your otherwise stiffer, more professional presentation and kept my attention and made me smile.
    I can't say why exactly, but I found it to be an incredibly well executed video. I thought for sure you are a popular creator on UA-cam only to be shocked that you just started out (at least on this channel.
    I wish you well in the future on this channel!

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  Рік тому +4

      The screen creates a particular distance between the viewer and the creator - but I have to say, personally, thank you for making this comment. It made my day, and my week. It is so kind of you to have taken the time to write it out. These longer-form videos are more taxing to make and get less engagement, but they are really the sort of videos I am passionate about making because I appreciate them most from other creators. My channel will likely be a mix of long- and short-form content, though comments like yours really keep me motivated, knowing that someone really finds value in these more in-depth, not-hyper-stimulating videos.
      This is indeed my first channel, and I hope it can turn into something that people both in and outside of the men's style community can find value in. I guess I am trying to create something I wish existed when I first starting getting into this genre.
      Thanks so much Ken :)

      Ryan & Ron Wagner with Bespoke Edge in Denver. It's a 2x2 basketweave in a 280 gram weight, 100% Wool. I've seen some conflicting information on it, but from what I gather, while Hopsack and Basketweave are equivalent from a technical weave perspective, Hopsack is generally used to describe lighter yarns, used for lighter jackets. While mine is still fairly all-season, it is a bit more dense and thick than one would expect from a jacket labelled Hopsack, so I refer to it as Basketweave. I don't think it matters much, though.

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you so much for your kind words. I get asked this quite often, and I suspect because it is because many people feel the value is very similar, though the shoes offer two quite different products - thus making a decisive choice is difficult. I feel similarly, as if choosing between my two favorites.
      Personally, I would choose Yearn just because I prefer more contemporary-designed, Asiatic style shoes with a lower profile and more angular geometry. Though that is a personal aesthetic preference.
      If you don't have a particularly decided personal preference, I would say that TLBM has more classic lasts that are great for classic settings - like black tie or business formal. Yearn is more contemporary, a little more 'stylish' - if you will - so perhaps better for someone who likes to have a more noticeable, stand-out style than conservative. This quality of Yearn can also make it an interesting talking point in conversation. Honestly, though, this is really splitting hairs. I wear my Yearn shoes and TLBM interchangeably for both business and non-business.

    The parks are often on sale for $199. The Yearn is $500 US. I would darn well expect it to be better. For that money I am thinking TLB Mallorca custom might be better. Still, I like my AE shoes when on sale. I can also try various models and sizes on for fit, or return exchange if there is an issue since they have extensive store network in the US.

    I'm not sure if you still pay attention to comments on this video. But I can't decide between TLB Mallorca Artista custom or Yearn MTO for a pair of burgundy Goodyear monks with museum calf. Given only these two options, and if money wasn't an issue, which would you recommend?

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  7 місяців тому

      Nowadays (Yearn has improved since this video), they are both pretty on par in terms in terms of craftsmanship and value in my opinion. Both have great leathers as well. Yearn is fully handmade as well, if that is important to you. I think ultimately it comes down to last design.
      In general, I personally prefer the more contemporary, slim, angular lasts of Yearn, though I think Double Monks are much better suited to more full, round, classic last designs (TLBM) than angular ones. Single-Strap Monks are a more contemporary riff and I think work much better - aesthetically - with slim, angular lasts.
      I would get Double-Strap Monks with TLBM Artista MTO and Single-Strap Monks with Yearn MTO.

    Would you recommend Yearn over TBL Mallorca? I want to buy a nice black Oxford and after extensive research I opted for the 198 VAN GOGH as I wasn’t particularly fond of the last on the Bridlen, for example. Do you think I should recheck Yearn, or am I on the safe side with the TBL? (By the way, love your videos 😃)

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  7 місяців тому +2

      I think TLB Mallorca is, in every definition, the safe side. Great, timeless lasts. Refined, minute craftsmanship. World-class leather. And at a price point where basically nobody even comes close in the GYW market.
      Yearn's designs I think would be considered more contemporary in the West. Low-profile, angular, slim lasts. Personally, I love Asiatic shoe design. Some may like more classic designs. Plus Yearn is handmade - which has small objective perks, though may vary from significant to marginal depending on how much you value that.
      I could pick apart small pros and cons of each, though ultimately I think it would boil down simply to which last designs you like better. Both are among the best on the market in terms of value.
      And thank you! I am glad you enjoy them!
