I would love to play a shooter-only Star Wars game, but the issue is that this game just doesn't do anything exciting. They market her as an outlaw, but she doesn't do anything "outlaw-ish"
the guy that wrote her script admits it was for a guy not a woman as that was the original plan, but i am guessing the woke members of the team changed that.
Doesn’t help that gaming has been infected by activists with zero self awareness. They were all gathered up and fired….at Marvel. Not so much at Lucas, Disney. And many of these asshats moved into the gaming space…insert SBI here.
Agreed, no matter any redeeming qualities, if the gameplay is bad, its a bad game.. I got the game as a present of my wife as i am a huge SW fan, and yeah i played it a bit, not too be a dork to her and outright diss the game she gave my out of love i played it. But... damn.. i hardly made it out of the first chapter, and rather kill myself as continue playing.. The stealthplay is so dumb, gunfights are a joke the weapons themself are bland, the world while looking nice, it just not hold imho a SW atmosphere at all, drive the speeder bike is boring AF, and most missions are just copy/paste repetative uninspiring UBI crap... The whole diversity and gendercap goes right by me, as i am for a Generation that just don't care or gives a F* and i look right pass it and ignore it, but i do look at game play, and it fall so flat on its face, its laughable.
Of course DEI infested games become a bad game.. Diversity in their mind isn't just uplifting woman/minority/disabled, but it also includes putting down and insult men/white. Gender swapping, race swapping and sexual orientation swapping too. People never have issue with minority character in games, CJ and Big Smokes in GTA:SA are legendary. Lara Croft, Bayonetta, Samus Aron, 2B and most of gacha games characters are woman and nobody complaining. Meanwhile their theory on strong independent woman meant the always right, have no flaws, many times are arrogant and condescending toward others. So you end up with an annoying as F main characters with zero struggles and zero character development. Hiring based on DEI also meant lower quality product since less talented people get hired and the talented normal people get pushed out.
Outlaws, Dustborn, Concorde, Suicide Squad, the list goes on and on. They all just serve as definitive proof that the "modern audience" simply does not exist. At least not in the numbers required to support these products in any meaningful way.
they conned the shareholders that there was an huge audience for this stuff when its actuly a tiny minority.outlaws has only sold 1 million copys even now. star wars survivour 40 Million and counting. outlaws its the lowest selling star wars game ever.
Ubisoft expecting 5-10m sales of anything at this point is insanely high expectations. Especially with a game that barely escapes the 2000's for gameplay and focused almost entirely on visuals. I guess they should just get used to not owning money if that's their quality and expected outcome. And that doesn't even count the activist issues.
Fans are sick of ubisoft and Disney. So combining them together was a no brainer on no buying this. I've bought every star wars game for the most part. If its on steam I have it. Star wars outlaws will not be in my library.
I won't lie, I disagree about this game not appealing as much since it was focused on a a scoundrels life instead of the force and Jedi. I think many people were actually down for something different. The reason many people buy Battlefront is to play as a grunt in the middle of this large scale war (and there's absolutely a large chunk that buy it to play as their favourite characters too of course), but the problem here is that it just didn't look that exciting. It doesn't seem to be a badly made game, I myself have no purchased it yet, but I didn't hold off because of the focus of the game, it was more because I didn't think it looked as well made as I believed. If it had looked incredibly tight in terms of gameplay and coolness (like how Survivor is), many more would have bought it. In regards to Squadrons though you're absolutely right, I heard it was quite well made as you said, but the concept just did not appeal to me (being solely on ship combat and nothing else). I know there are people who only love the force, but there are also a bunch of people who also love the other aspects of the universe (my favourite is the conflict of the clone wars). Though this is now more important than ever when making Star Wars games, if you're going to appeal to a certain part of the Star Wars fandom, whether it be the force and Jedi with the Jedi series, large scale warfare with a mix of everything like Battlefront, or the Scoundrel life like Outlaws, you need to do it right.
Well you can't even be a scoundrel in the game. You can't even commit crimes at will besides drawing your blaster in front of the guards. The npcs aside from the guards literally just👁👄👁.
@@zongvang8579 You really have no choice on how you pursue your career or objective. They pretty much stick you into a predetermined character. No variety or choice weapons or companions.
The fact it’s a female character isn’t the problem. The game was just bad. Buggy. un-interesting.... And a waste of money. Bayonetta, Resident Evil and many other games feature strong, or independent women - and a lot of those games are great.
@@migueltoledo1884 But Star Wars does suffer from female hero fatigue. Apart from Cal Kestus (and maybe Andor and Mando), no strong male protagonist has been introduced by Disney Star Wars. By comparison a female was the protagonist in the sequel trilogy, Battlefront 2 campaign, Ahsoka show, The Acolyte, Bo-Katan became main character in Mando, Jyn Erso in Rogue 1, only female leads in Tales of the Empire etc. Dont get me wrong. Female characters belong in Star Wars. But considering the vast majority of fans are male, Im not sure having most characters be female is a wise choice.
I was excited to have a scoundrel-based game. As a kid, I was more excited by Han Solo, the droids, the ships, and all the tech than I was by the Jedi and the Force. I haven't purchased this game because of the overpriced Day 1 DLC and because of punching stormtroopers in the helmet.
If you want a Scoundrel-Based Game, the 1-50 story in SWTOR is pretty decent if you haven't seen it yet. Disorganized, but definitely scratches that itch.
Exactly. Either playing as/making your own Mandalorian character would be sick, especially if you could fly in any ship, use practically any weapon, join any group of people, and basically live how you want. But making that kind of game would probably take longer than GTA6. Still, that's my dream.
Unfortunately, EA decided to cancel their mandalorian based game not long ago because some stupid kids decided to pay hundreds of dollars for a sports game
Well ...I prefer 1000 times more stealth instead of jedi survivor !! And this îs the best review ua-cam.com/video/2SKdbO--o3Y/v-deo.htmlsi=JrPp3QI6iX8zAm--
They could have just made a sequel to Republic Commandos, Star Wars 1313, or even the almost completed BF3 but noooooo. We're stuck with this garbage instead.
Remind again how they'd do that when Ubisoft doesn't own the rights to those properties. It's cute when you kids show us what you know about how licensing and development works, which boils down to knowing fuck all.
Nah. Let the scoundrel be a scoundrel. Han Solo was badass and charismatic. He was not above taking the low road and even going further under it. Even after his redemption arc, he was still willing to do things to get things done in contrast to Luke. Otherwise, they should've just made her a straight up rebel with a rebel storyline because it's almost there already.
but if they fix her face and body how will the t. .rannies, who don't even make up a half of single percentage point of the population, feel represented! 😵💫😵💫
@@1ProAssassin I don't think you understood willmorgan5692's post. He was saying the obvious: While the actual model they used is really feminine and attractive, the game devs went to substantial effort to remove the more attractive features and make the character more "butch". Then they have her using her bare hands to punch metal armored storm troopers hard enough to knock them out. In the Star Wars universe, like reality, a normal female hitting a piece of plate metal would be like an egg hitting a brick wall. There is a reason why super-hero movies and comics have attractive main characters, and try to make fight scenes as realistic as possible.
I could tell you why it failed. Ubisoft made it, which means all you get is a reskinned assassin's creed. Not to mention Star Wars is a dying IP and the modern audience doesn't buy games, they just tweet on X.
Tweet on X while also talking about how terrible Elon is and how they're definitely leaving this time, unlike the last 20 times they said the site was going to die in a week and they were leaving.
I skipped it for one reason only. Because of the DEI/ESG main character. I'd love to play as a smuggler with no force powers. That sounds like a lot of fun! But if my character is objectively ugly so that the company can score some ESG points, I'm out. Star Wars can be saved. It just needs to get the modern day politics out. Which means they need to get rid of everyone that pushes modern day politics at Lucasfilm, Ubisoft and any other partner company.
Dude did you wanna play as a smuggler or a model half the galaxy wants to rape while she is “smuggling” stuff. Like do you people even use your brains when youre talking about ips
It takes a long haul, and that would make people rethink their decisions. And to be honest, Kay Vess is better off as a male than a female with a poor attempt for androgynous look.
Agreed you have the entirety of SW universe the technology the lore and wide range of place and not building a game around you being an up and coming outlaw , smuggler, bounty hunter etc. Choosing the variety of races which could have various impacts on what you choose to pursue or decisions you make is part of the replayability of a open world game. They stopped you to a single character with pretty much a linear story line with little to no variety. The faction don't really matter except in minor differences. The different price points to buy this game was a complete joke. $ 130 for the collectors edition and 3 days access what nonsense
I was actually looking forward to playing as a Han Solo-ish character; no force power or light saber. However what we ended up getting was Star Wars metal gear solid - the temu edition. I’m playing as an outlaw, I want to start blasting not spend most of the game sneaking around.
When even David Lindelof has no interest in mystery boxing that shit, you know Star Wars is in trouble. Disney ruined Star Wars the moment they shoved out The Force Awakens. They didn't plan anything. The Force Awakens was just a soft reboot of A New Hope. Abrams and Johnson couldn't write themselves out of a paper bag. The same way Alex Kurtzman and company have ruined Star Trek, Disney has put too much into shoving fan service in place of an actual story and characters and when you peel those away, there is absolutely nothing to stand on. Disney trying to build a universe around a non-existent foundation with its various shows, games, movies and failed resort hotels turned what Disney thought was the golden goose into a large sewer pipe.
The sheer arrogance of adlibbing a trilogy between different directors, it's an insult. To contrast, look at Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. That show greatly expanded the existing universe but at no point did it invalidate or subvert what was already there. They even went through great lengths to ensure a second season would be desirable but not optional in case it wouldn't continued. Disney should have let Lisa Henson produce the trilogy.
@@Trazynn 100% I was skeptical when Age of Resistance was announced due to the rather poor track record legacy projects have had in recent years but I was pleasantly surprised how good it actually turned out. Shame we didn't get a second season but I'm thankful we got one at all.
I mean, it was all KK who put her total faith in JJ Abrams who came up with such a bad storyline and characters that it actually fully killed a studio. Like whats happened to MGM throughout its existence.
The Force Awakens was fine. It was safe, not that creative, whatever, it was fine. What ruined it was INSANELY not having a plan on what to do after that. And then ludicrously ending the trilogy on what basically amounted to embarrassing fanfiction.
EVERYTHING you said about Luke Skywalker; I said a thousand times on Xbox live party chat. Luke is so interesting directly after ROTJ because we wanna see his journey into becoming a powerful Jedi.
@@themoviereviewwarriors939same man I wanted Mara Jade and Luke’s Children to become canon and when Disney tossed all away I was upset to my stomach and then when the Last Jedi happened I knew my hopes for Star Wars was over so I’m backing away from the franchise and moving back to Harry Potter, Dragon Ball, and Sonic hopefully none of these things become woke
It flopped because no one wants to play a game with shitty graphics and lame ass physics for what should have been a $20 game AT BEST!!!!Also, she’s not hawt. The gamers have spoken. Side note, squadrons was a great game! The story. How it ties into the cannon. It worked!
Huge empty world - Check Nothing to do in it - Check Limited ways, skills and things to interact with the world - Check Same problem Forspoken had, soo much space, too many shrubs and not enough interactable content and mechanics to keep the game interesting for 40 hours.
A open world star wars game would of done sooooo.... good. The fact of the matter is LET US CUSTOMIZE our characters and let us CUSTOMIZE the story whether, we want to be good or bad. Make it like GALEXIES and make it BETTER. You'll be surpised at a billion dollar empire that you could create.
You wanna know something I'd like in a Star Wars game? Realistic damage and fight dangers. I'm sick and tired of games where the only danger an enemy represents is being a resilient bullet sponge. Make it so blasters are legitimately dangerous to them AND to you. Make it a game where combat is a combination of measured risks, quick tactics, gambles and quick shots to to take out enemies as quickly as possible because fighting anything above 5 blaster wielding enemies at a time is legitimately dangerous. Because a shot from them can take you down just as quickly as a shot THEY take from you. Add some damn urgency to the combat.
We all loved E.T. in the 90's doesnt mean we look or identify as E.T. I am a mexican, I dont look for games where i get to be a mexican lol...those developers need to cut the crap
The fact that your AI generated thumbnail is infinitely more attractive and interesting character design that the main character of Outlaws says a lot. The volume bell shape of the hair is way more compelling. It give a much more iconic look and catches the eye quicker. Same with the oversized fur shoulders of the coat. Combined they are a primary feature that helps make the character's silhouette instantly instantly recognizable. The face is more round, giving a cute appearance. The pout enhances this, but combined with the shrug give a 'I don't care what you think' attitude that's reminiscent of Han Solo and the many other rogues in the Star Wars universe. It's sad that someone's throw away thumbnail can nail a character design better than an entire Disney backed studio.
Lol. Are you saying he's popular because he's white? If Cal was any other race and still had the same character growth he'd still be loved by the fans. I think his point about Luke Skywalker is that KK is looking from a "Feminist Activist" POV. She knows his character sells but doesn't want to sell it. Why? "Because white man bad, white man portrays the patriarchy, and the patriarchy = oppression ...." etc And just because most of the Star Wars fandom is male dominant, doesn't mean they're the enemy. They are what made the brand successful in the 1st place. Maybe she sees Luke as George Lucas's shadow that she wants to escape from. I have no problem with new characters that Disney Lucasfilm wants to create, but my goodness don't create characters that has the charm of a plank of wood like Rey. Not because of her gender or skin color, but of her CHARACTER. Edit: Sorry for the long message.
@@Dystopian_Phantom_595 idk. I think a majority of gamers are white men. So why wouldn’t we want to play as one for most of our games. There are no other characters of color in starwars whose story we care about. Asoka doesn’t count, they casted a racially ambiguous woman to play her
@Dialectdiva What about Lando Calrissian? People loved him back in 1980. Sure, he could've been cast with a white actor, but no. He is a cool character who happens to be black. He was charming with the ladies and had a mysterious aura around him imo. I bet you that most gamers (which are men, whether white or not) will be furious if they announce a Gears of War 1 Remake for "MoDeRn AuDiEnCe" by race swapping Cole Anderson from black to white or Aisan or any other race/skin color. Just because some "consultancy company" told them to do so for the sake of "inclusion", rather than to create a cool character that happens to be black. Also, why did gamers had an issue with DRDR1 when they changed the butcher psycho to an ordinary white dude when he was originally Asian? Most DragonBallZ fans are dudes that happened to be black. While almost all of the characters happened to be white. They don't watch DBZ to be on the lookout for a "black person" to feel "seen." They watch it because the whole universe of DBZ is cool as shit. And can relate to certain characters, be inspired by them, etc. A human connection is what people want from their characters. Not forced DEI bullshit that some DEI shills hide behind as their argument: "These white dudes just want to see their own race everywhere because they're BiGoTs!!" Or some retarded shit like that.
@@Dialectdiva Did you just say the words "racially ambiguous" is that some kind of fucked up way of saying her parents are from a mixed heritage? You know that's not ambiguous right? Both parents know where their parents came from. I'm almost 100% certain that she knows her racial heritage.
I'd love to play a game as a blaster-only scoundrel... Star Wars doesn't need a light sabre or the Force to be fun. I think the basic mechanics just don't look satisfying, and has an overall cheap look to it.
I like the first season, it was really good, second season started turning weird and a bit shit and then the 3rd season went full woke retarded (at least from what I could gather from reviews, I didn't actually watch it). I wish Favreau didn't cave in to the looneys, it could have been a great show.
I disagree with the focus part. People have been asking for a star wars game not focused on Jedi for a long while, and a stealth approach can be great, It's just that Ubisoft does it the wrong way. Now I do agree with the part of the lack of excitement with star wars....I literally lost all my will to play, read or watch anything star wars.
I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that we play as a scoundrel/smuggler versus a jedi (lightsabers and force), it's how they executed it. Games like Star Wars Galaxies did plenty fine, with most classes NOT being Jedi/Sith (and they weren't available at all near launch). It's just bad execution of what it could have been, and the wrong developer creating it. If this was 'Far Cry Star Wars' or even 'Ghost Recon Star Wars' (Wildlands/Breakpoint), it would have been a very different experience. Studios that know how to put together the vision someone had for this game, and not 'The Division Star Wars' which doesn't contain any of the things it wanted to lean on (vehicles, stealth, dialogue, etc).
It is the villain that makes the story. It was Vader that made Luke a hero. It was the Jedi council that made Anakin into Vader. The Clone Wars had General Grievous, Count Dooku, and Asajj Ventress. What villain does Outlaws have? The bigger and badder the bad guy, the better the story.
In 1977 the US had 210 million people. Star Wars sold 140 million tickets. Now with 330 million people, episode IX sold under 60 million tickets. It also lost money and the merchandising was so bad that Original Trilogy still outsells it.
What we fot is in the name of inclusivity, they made a game that excluded. The first mistake was not letting you create a character, starting with a choice of playing a male, female, or alien character, and then letting the game develop that character with story choice you made in the game. The second was stealth and level-level design; it needed to be a knockout stealth system, not a ripoff of In Assassin's Creed; the level design needed to let the play be smart and give you choices. So quested sneak into locations X the mission get the "mystery box that is under imperal guard. Now in game the options you could find are break in over the roof, climbing using pipes swinging, etc., sneak past guards pure stealth, or maybe going in undergronding through water pipes, caves, you end up having to fighting a monster., talking your way in, maybe by bribing a guard, hacking a droid, etc., or gathering information by talking to NPC palying sabacc etc and then you maybe win some blackmail material about an imperal officer; Get someone drunk in the cantina and then mug them, so you can steal their unform, then you have to pick someone's pocket for an idea card and put on unform and use card to just walk like own the place or Just hire a bunch of mercs and shoot you way in. You get the idea
Two things can be true at the same time: 1) There are legitimate criticisms and deep, fundamental problems with the current direction of Star Wars. 2) There is a statistically significant part of the fan base that is, in point fact, not operating in good faith and using the phrase "legitimate criticism" to obscure their misogyny and other dehumanizing views. We have to stop being like Sith and giving into this absolutist mentality and belief that it can only be one or the other. BOTH THINGS ARE TRUE. BOTH ARE PROBLEMS. The only one you can solve, however, is the first one. The franchise needs better stories, better characters, better direction, and better connection with the audience. The outspoken people who are operating in bad faith can't be satiated. They will always find something to pick apart, such as calling Rey a Mary Sue and forgetting that Luke Skywalker is the PENULTIMATE Mary Sue in all of science fiction. So you can't bother trying to reach out to them. But the product can ABSOLUTELY be better. There are problems with Star Wars that don't have anything to do with the so-called "identity issues" that people love to malign. The treatment of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi is unforgivable. The Rise of Skywalker's plot is insulting. I thought The Force Awakens was a solid Star Wars movie but man, they clearly had no plan after that. People were sour on the Kenobi series, but as an OG Gen-X fan of some 40+ years, I thoroughly enjoyed it and got a tremendous amount of satisfaction from the story arc between Obi-wan and Vader. So they do have the potential to reach us die-hards. It's there. Star Wars needs help. The problem is that there is a good chunk of the fanbase that doesn't want to see it get that help. They just want to use the problems to further their own pet grievances with modernity. Can't do anything about that, sadly. But we CAN and SHOULD get better stories out of the creators.
I agree wholeheartedly. And it could be a bigger problem than we think because the activists were hired mostly in upper management at these companies. Meaning, at a lot of these companies, the activists were the ones in charge of hiring and firing. The result is exactly what you think it would be. The firing of the more experienced and talented employees and the hiring of people that supported the ideology over the people most qualified for the job. The big problem is that the very people that are necessary in righting the ship (company) are the ones responsible for causing the problem in the first place. And they're not gonna fire themselves. No, they'll only pander harder to the "modern audience" because anything less would be a blow to their ideology and an admission that the "CHUD's" were right. And as we've seen, their ideology takes precedent over gameplay, sales, etc.. Because just like so many of their Facebook, LinkedIn, pages show their activism tends to be listed above their qualifications. So all these corporations are in a self-inflicted death spiral with virtually no one in leadership able to clean house and fix these companies because, like I said, the people with the power to right the ship are the very same ideologically captured individuals.
The lack of force does not necessarily mean flop. The original 2 battlefront games were success, and so is Republic Commando, and if Battlefront 2 were made, and marketed as it is now, then that would have been an absolute success as well. Since i haven't played it i cannot tell for sure, but most critics are about the main character, the AI, the bugs, and the gameplay. From outside look it seems, that the game tries to be a jack of all trade, and in turn it gets none of them well done. And with the damage on the SW brand it is not enough to win. They need an actually good game for that.
Real activists would go against the uglification of a female video game, and I for one would March for that, these guys are not activists, they are inactivists.
The problem with Outlaws was that Ubisoft made the miscalculation making the game based around a female protagonist instead of giving us a character creator to create our own scoundrel (as a human male/female or other species in the Star Wars universe) where we work with Kay in the main story. I won’t discuss any shortcomings from a tech perspective because that can get fixed and we are use to games needing work. I’m speaking about the first open world Star Wars and Ubisoft somehow thought it would be best to go with a female lead instead the players creating what they want.
Can't disagree more. A grounded Star Wars game, playing a smuggler, would be great, but the end product proved that Ubisoft didn't have the vision or skills to pull it off. Where Survivor was a Tomb Raider clone with a Star Wars skin, Outlaws wasn't even that. I dislike calling any game dev lazy, but this game geniunley felt like Ubi tossed every old trick they had into one bag and hoped for the best. Not every game needs grand innovations, but Outlaws felt tired. It's like someone at Ubi said, "Yeah, we'll make an open world Star Wars games if we have to." And the stealth focus was a big headscratche there, so I will agree w/ you on that, but Outlaws didn't need the force to be great. As far as the "modern audience" argument, you literally mentioned Star Wars games that recently did quite well. The audience for an open world Star Wars game is there. It just needs a good game. Look, the prequels were crap, yet 20 years later they are now another generation's Star Wars that is beloved. The same will be true for Disney's Star Wars whether you like it or not.
that golden age with lucas games from jedi outcast, bounty hunter, jedi academy, republic commando. sheeesh, fun stories, cool characters, cameos from the goats
kotor games pandemic battlefront games force unleashed rogue squadron trilogy Swtor Star Wars galaxies x wing alliance and tie fighter games empire at war Star Wars games were awesome under lucasart era before the dark times before the EAmpire/ubimpire/Disney 🚬
I think that most of the game's problem lie in Disney's reluctance to take more chances with a darker tone and an M rating which would have fit the setting better in favor of safer choices and a T rating. There's a disconnect in what the game was trying to portray and how they chose to portray them. It's supposed to be about intergalactic outlaws, hardened criminals living among the darkest, dirtiest underbelly of the Star Wars universe and yet our protagonist is a petite female human and her tiny pet. But they still wanted it to be power fantasy, so now she's a petite woman who is somehow strong enough to sucker punch fully trained plastoid armored Stormtroopers unconscious left and right with her bare hands which is ridiculous even in a world full of space wizards. You know a game concept that I would absolutely love to play? A third person single player shooter starring Cara Dune. Instant GOTY.
For the game itself it has really bad design choices... Yes, you sneak around alot, but why can't you hide the body of the enemies you dropped so their buddys don't find the... ah... bodies. In old Shooter Games you get an array of weapons you can pick up and keep. But not here... you climp a ladder... oh noes... there goes my Stormtrooper Rifle... They just wanted you to have the upgradeable blaster against bullet sponge enemies... it is not fun. A friend of mine is about 60% through the story an just uses the adrenaline thingy to clear the enemies. Then why not have the players get that power fantasy... you could keep the number of enemys but tiers of them? The lowly stormtrooper drops with one to three shots (as it should be) and then have thougher enemies where you have to get a little bit more creative and use the explosives. In the current form you star a blaster fight in a base and you're basically dead and have to redo alot of the mission because you can't always save. I don't like the Kay Vess character, not because she is a women, but her personality is not very engaging or funny. And now you that you said the bit with the design choices for her, I can see that now. As for you rant I agree, Kennedy and Disney are killing Star Wars with trying to shove their woke world view into the viewership. The best thing they have produced was Mandalorian Seasons one and two. You feel the creators knew what the want and as they said in the making off - it was just like two kids playing with their favorite star wars toys in the yard. I guess it flew under the Kennedys radar then, and when they noticed that it was successful they started meddeling... we got Book of Boba Fett, which was forced upon Filoni and Favreau and you feel it. The only good thing was the bits where Mandos and Grogus Story continued. Boba Himself was watered down and the strange storytelling choice with flashbacks and present time was really badly executed. And then comes Mando Season three where Mando got reduced to a side character and "The Mandalorian" shifted to Bo Katan as the main. I like her character but it was just a bad move. This may have to do with Pedro Pascals ambitions and realizing that wearing a helmet 90% of the time doesn't do wonders for his career. And your point with bringing back the OGs would have been doable back before the sequels began, but at this time and age the target audience doesn't care for Luke, Han and Leia anymore... as the new fans don't stay with the franchise, because there is so much other SciFi Shows around. It would make the old fans who grew up with them happy, but Hollywood doesn't care for us. If they bring them back, it would be time to recast them. Star Trek did it and it survived.
There was a time (and it wasn't that long ago) that even a mediocre Star Wars product would sell pretty well. But if the developers/writers/directors of a project call you an incel, a racist, a misogynist or a troll, you're not going to be enthused about buying their next product. And after years of attacks like that, a film, a show or a game will have to be something really, really special before you'll even want to give it a try. And by all accounts, Outlaws just wasn't that special. 🤷♂
Your right. These days gamers are shamed when they don’t want to buy a game as *Sexist* *Racist etc depending on the content. Companies don’t want to admit that the product sucks. I remember when ghostbusters 2016 flopped and basically it was sexism according to producer. I think it was just that trailer was terrible and put people off.
While its an interesting take, I have to disagree. And that because both your arguments also would count for the show Andor. And thats in my opinion the best Star Wars product since the original trilogy, perhaps only behind The Knights of the Old Republic. And that show was a great succes and even the biggest haters of the Disney era had to concede that it simply was a really good show, almost despite it being Star Wars rather than because of it. So, I think its simply a combination about Ubisoft just having a bad rep and their complete misunderstanding of their audience. I think if they would have targeted a more mature audience and made the game super dark and gritty, like Andor, they would have nailed it. Right now they just tried to make something for everyone and as so often, they made a game for no one.
it's funny, 5 years ago I would have bought this game day one. The final season of Clone Wars was just announced, Ubisoft still had a good name after Far Cry 5 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey released, Mando season 1 was awesome and Jedi Fallen Order was a decent Star Wars game after 10 years of literally nothing (and two Battlefront games that were barebones at best when they released). But fast forward a few years and you had failure after failure from Ubisoft, starting with Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Far Cry New Dawn, and ending with the lackluster Far Cry 6 and the world's first AAAA-game Skull and Boned. Meanwhile Star Wars had one shitty show after another, with Obi-Wan, Boba Fett and even Mando season 3 being overall letdowns, Andor was a glimmer of hope, imediately ruined by Ahsoka which was downright stupid, and the Acolyte being the "Rings of Power" of the Star Wars Universe. At this point I am beyond fucking done with both Ubisoft, and mediocre to atrocious Star Wars content. Especially after Andor had proven what Star Wars is capable of if the writers are competent. You're absolutely on point: After being a Star Wars fan my entire life ever since I was like 3 years old and randomly saw Han Solo blasting the Storm Troopers storming the landing bay in Mos Eisley (before being sent to sleep by my parents who were watching the movie), Disney made me completely stop giving a shit about Star Wars. They can't take away the good memories, but at this point KOTOR 3 could be announced and would only get a "meh" from me. Star Wars is very much in the past for me right now. If it ever makes a return with actual quality content like Andor, I'll be down for that. But currently I am sick of their crap. I didn't even watch the Acolyte, Ahsoka was enough to make me quit my Disney+ and not look back.
@@achaudhari101 no, they were not complete and utter garbage like rings of power. But they were incredibly mediocre and had some stupid things that should just not have been there.
@@achaudhari101 true, but no matter how good the next season will be, my gripes with Mando season 3 lie within the writing for some episodes of the third season. So no matter what they do in season 4, that won't fix my issues with season 3.
I believe it is actually related to Ubisoft, their games have been getting ever more bloated, with poor writing and full of padding just to charge more, and basically they just reskin the same game over and over. Far Cry plays exactly the same as Assassin’s Creed, and Star Wars Outlaws and the Avatar game… The only thing that changes is if it plays 3rd person or 1st person. So people are tired of playing the same Ubisoft game again… I used to love their games Far Cry 3 was great, but it has been downhill ever since..
The haircut. It's the haircut. I'm not being facetious. The haircut signals a lot of underlying aspects that gamers have grown to expect from such a choice.
Not every game needs to be a blockbuster, it just needs to be good to those that play it. Niche games are what built this industry but unfortunately this industry has changed.
4:20 One thing about that part... while i mostly agree (although i personally think that there is a lot less activism than there appears to be and i blame Disney's really bad PR work for that, but that's another topic), one of the reasons this IS happening is also because the fanbase does a really crappy job of filtering out the idiots. Let's face it - there ARE sexists and racists in the fanbase and while i'm about 95% sure that they are a minority, the fanbase still lets that minority be the loudest of the bunch. The sexist and racist BS is what makes it out of the fandom-bubble and into the mainstream. And that, in turn, is what allows Lucasfilm to just ignore the actual, legitimate and constructive criticism, because they can always just point towards the loud minority of actual racist and sexist a-holes and say "Are we really supposed to take that seriously?". If the fans want Disney to take them seriously, WE as fans have to acknowledge the jerks among us and make sure that they don't get to overshadow us.
This "legitimate criticism" argument is complete BS. Just because you don't agree with the point someone else is making doesn't mean their point is illegitimate. It's just a weak way to avoid talking about the actual problems with the franchise.
@@Hedgehobbit Yeah, sorry, but "Mad because women and people of color" is not a legitimate argument in anyway and not a "problem" that deserves to be talked about. But you do you.
I agree with most of what you had to say except one thing. DEI is terrible. Tekken, street fighter2, gta series, ff7 and more had a diversity as far as races. I enjoyed games that took us to far away places and let us sample differing cultures like shenmu, or prince of Persia or even the early bioware games. But the games today are trying to force all races together and perversion. I'm Black but I don't like to see myself in every game. The whole purpose is to dive into fantasy and escape to a place where you might be in a war, or simply trying to survive , or a realm where honor and chivalry can exist. I'm not into the gay games that force odd stuff into the games though. I think there is a market for it but it may not be a mass market for it though. There are different strokes for different folks and I hope the independent developers capitalize off of that. You can make games for different audiences and let them decide what they want to buy and play.
8:30 Baldur’s Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy and Cyberpunk 2077 (excluding its horrendous launch) are good examples. The gameplay, story and characters were done well so, the dei stuff didn’t matter.
It’s because Ubisoft went woke like Disney. They stopped caring about the content being put out. EA screwed us by giving us BB8 and BB9E instead of Ahsoka and Ventress, but they still made a good game, with a decent story. I am tired of not getting what we should be getting.
@@xxcaptninjaxx4301 well that’s why they pulled out of BF2. It’s because they thought more people would enjoy Battlefield 5, (which they didn’t) and ruined the whole community. Really sad
@@aaronlaughter6471 not really. The two companies, Disney and Ubisoft, both have staunch liberal beliefs. Because of these, most of the games that have come out of them don’t resonate with fans, then they blame the fans for it.
I thought it boring. its set after Empire - during war of the bounty hunters. could have done more with that right there. maybe even see Luke with his comic era Yellow Lightsaber. (which BTW the comic ended and ... they NEVER explained how Luke switches to the Green Blade) ((HOW IS THAT SKIPPED?!)) instead we just Lando playing a card game while his man is in Jabba's Palace. could have been a story where Kay is a reason to how they get into Jabbas Palace at the start of RotJ. it was a time where the Rebels were losing. we didn't get that. we get missions where they are in a hidden base- nothing more. no famous Bounty Hunter fights? why not? could be IG-88 or Dengar. or hell, give us a in game apperance for Doctor Aphra or the Terminator looking guy. no Chewbacca? damn. should have had more connections with Characters that we know are in this Era doing stuff. I sound like "no luke? its not Star Wars" but ... we need more than just Map References
Honestly Kay leaking info to Lando or something would have been so cool, excellent idea tying it to Han's rescue
Місяць тому+1
I think main reason is not between the scope of the MCs. It is just that MC in Outlaws is sh*t and mechanics connected to her make no sense. Like for eg. missions for factions. How the f*ck do you lose respect of the faction you made mission against when you did it without being spotted once?! Or the simple fact that you are an outlaw yet can't do any outlaw stuff? Can't get enemies hostage, can't steal from randos (like pickpocketing minigame would be cool), can't steal vehicles from others, etc. If they made a RDR2 with heists, banks to rob, interesting side quests etc. but in Star Wars universe this game would sell fat millions.
Wait! You actually played the game all the way through??? Why give EA your money if you feel so passionate about their business? I don’t think they’d provide you with a review code
@@TheStarBazaar WAIT!! So even more so then, why support a companies endeavor to sell a product that just wants to sell us on the DEI thing? Your platform is large enough to rally for a boycott?
Bro you're on a high dose of copium if you think Lucasfilm "put a chick in it and make her gay and lame" is going to admit defeat by allowing the pre-Disney characters to be front and center in ANYTHING they make.
I agree with everything you said. I also feel that real fans want to play as the characters from the movies. Making up these new people is really "hit or miss". Star Wars Episode 3 came out many years ago but you play the entire game as main characters from the movie and the "Battle Mode" allowed you to unlock a lot of movie characters to fight with. Still my favorite Star Wars game to this day. They could still make the original trilogy into a game but it probably won't happen. I'd LOVE to see a Luke game too.
I dont get the praise for Jedi games. They are just a worse version of Jedi Academy, maybe a better story, but the main guy is so overpowered its hard to take serious. Seeing the stormtroppers being programed to miss 2/3 shots.....terrible. Just make em stronger and put less of them on a map like Jedi Academy. Jedi Academy is a 20yo game btw, and its a better version, unreal.
I'll be honest, I think that Squadron was well enough done that I never minded the diversity. To be fair I didn't know that the characters canonically had gender/smexual identies, but I don't know if it would have bothered me much, if at all...
Forced sneaking around with an immediately fail in situation you know you can just take it on the chin otherwise or shooting at bullet sponge enemies never wished in any game. You play as an outlaw but you not allowed to do any outlawish things. The open world is just a big empty background where you cant interact with anything other than travel from A to B between linear missions where the path painted up for you to not miss it. Full of inconsistent game mechanics. The stealth game is bad because nothign to do with actual stealth. The shooter part is bad because you limited to one weapon and 99% of the fight easier to win by just punching the enemies. The whole thing is just stupid. The vehicle part is bad too because you limited to your space cafe racer. The companion system also bad. Your space rat is an invicible powerhouse. You have stupid mini games like QTS based food eating which is just going on and on if you accidentally trigger it. Your character is inconsistent too. In one sceene you play as a badass on the other one act like a cringe poser. A star wrs open world game where you neither play a force user nor some epic hero has full legitimacy. I would love to play a character could side with many factions and can play in an open world as I like and I have to be aware of the consequences. I like Nix too. Squadrons felt into a trap where they made it to be a good game then they changed their mind and really wanted to make as an Esport game. The single player part was half baked. The VR part was half baked then later jsut straigth not worked. Ther esport part was probably not worked out. The problem for me with this game is the same as with the Outlws, it was a half baked buggy crap on a good idea and great world....
REASON: - THE MANDO should have main character - it was made by UBISOFT - overpriced editions - Kathleen Kennedy and Sequel trilogy - there's more I'm sure...
Star Wars Jedi Survivor is one of the best Star Wars games ever and it just came last year. Meanwhile Outlaws is another mediocre Ubisoft game. Last great game from that company was AC Black Flag
Is Jedi Survivor like Fallen Order? I played about 20 minutes of Fallen Order and had to quit as soon as a hint popped up that said, "Damage Enemies to Recharge The Force." I mean, you can't possibly get Star Wars as wrong as that one line.
The closest I get to a real open world experience in Star Wars is Star Citizen. You can haul, bounty hunt, or salvage with fully accessable in game ships that you can walk around. It has its bugs and is still in Alpha, but I truly enjoy the game and would love to see a Star Wars collab with popular ships in the game.
They pushed Ubisoft+ pretty hard with the marketing of this game. The only people I know who played this game all got 1 month of Ubi+, played the game, then cancelled. So they had to have known this was a $20 game and developed it as such. The game is bad, but their business model for it was too. Why would anyone in their right mind keep a running subscription to Ubi+?
IMO Outlaws is better than the Jedi games. I had more fun playing it. I thought Jedi had clunky combat. That being said, i would have made Kay far more attractive and gave her a stun baton (Instead of punching). Also the biggest thing effecting SALES is putting the game on Ubisoft Plus. Myself and a 5 of my friends all subbed to Ubisoft Plus for a Month just to play it. Then un subbed. So thats pretty much 6 game sales nulled and we got to play the full game for $20. I will now purchase the game later when its on sale.
I think this is a great game, it almost what I wanted. This is Star Wars world, a lot of Star Wars narratives are this. They could have done some things better of course. I don’t love the stealth but it works at some points. It needed better combat and more weapons. You should be able to hold on to new weapons.
My brother bought Outlaws pre release and even took 3 days off. I laughed at him and he had no reply. I want Star Wars Galaxie online back before the NGE of course !!
I would love to play a shooter-only Star Wars game, but the issue is that this game just doesn't do anything exciting. They market her as an outlaw, but she doesn't do anything "outlaw-ish"
Star Wars Bounty Hunter let you do outlaw stuff even pointing guns at civilians in the 2000s.
the guy that wrote her script admits it was for a guy not a woman as that was the original plan, but i am guessing the woke members of the team changed that.

Commando was great! Sad how gaming has fallen.

@@AdamsOlympia For sure. and maybe then for 5 dollars it would be enjoyable.
That is where you are wrong: Ubisoft is making something so sucky. Outlaws did not help the case of how that is.

His point with the girl boss led games is it has a MC Mary Sue often surrounded by dumbed down men characters or emasculated guys.
@@migueltoledo1884 But Star Wars does suffer from female hero fatigue. Apart from Cal Kestus (and maybe Andor and Mando), no strong male protagonist has been introduced by Disney Star Wars. Dont get me wrong. Female characters belong in Star Wars. But considering the vast majority of fans are male, Im not sure having most characters be female is a wise choice.

In the Star Wars universe, like reality, a normal female hitting a piece of plate metal would be like an egg hitting a brick wall. There is a reason why super-hero movies and comics have attractive main characters, and try to make fight scenes as realistic as possible.

It failed because you couldn't create your own character. I hate that none of these new Star wars games allow that
Agreed you have the entirety of SW universe the technology the lore and wide range of place and not building a game around you being an up and coming outlaw , smuggler, bounty hunter etc.
Weird, I've never heard that as a complaint about any of the dreary, monotinous games by From Software. Where's that bandwagon so I can jump on it?
I was actually looking forward to playing as a Han Solo-ish character; no force power or light saber. However what we ended up getting was Star Wars metal gear solid - the temu edition. I’m playing as an outlaw, I want to start blasting not spend most of the game sneaking around.

For a company that brushes off gamers' opinions and feedback as "toxic gamer talk", expecting even $1M collection is a way too much for Ubisoft.
LOL Disney has done a very very poor job of fan service even.

Thats literally what her character is like in the game lol.
The two Cal Kestis Jedi game narratives are the best thing to happen to Star Wars since Rogue One.
I wish we had gotten 1313. A story following a young Boba Fett, that was basically Uncharted in space. That would've been amazing.
Star Wars with no Force, no light sabers, no familiar protagonist? How could that fail? It's Lord of the Rings with no rings.
i completely disagree with the lack of force content. the criminal element in the star wars galaxy is absolutely fascinating.
14:36 so… why is Cal such a popular character? Those games sold pretty well, right?
Lol. Are you saying he's popular because he's white?
If Cal was any other race and still had the same character growth he'd still be loved by the fans.
I think his point about Luke Skywalker is that KK is looking from a "Feminist Activist" POV. She knows his character sells but doesn't want to sell it. Why?
"Because white man bad, white man portrays the patriarchy, and the patriarchy = oppression ...." etc
And just because most of the Star Wars fandom is male dominant, doesn't mean they're the enemy.
Asoka doesn’t count, they casted a racially ambiguous woman to play her
@@Dystopian_Phantom_595 oh no, i was saying we like Cal over just as much as Luke, because he isn’t a DEI actor.
Battlefront 3
with a saber or shooter only HvV mode
Yes, but they’ll mess that up somehow
I'd love to play a game as a blaster-only scoundrel... Star Wars doesn't need a light sabre or the Force to be fun. I think the basic mechanics just don't look satisfying, and has an overall cheap look to it.
The Mandalorian had almost no Force or lightsabers, and everyone loved it!
Baby yoda.
@@MicaelAzevedo I said ALMOST.
Its weird that on the cover they have two characters standing next to eachother but only you only play as one of them
Dark Forces sold 300K copies...back in 95, let that sink in.
Such a great game! I still go back and play every now and then.
At this stage, I don't think they care about profit or success, but only in pushing their political agenda.
Psst. Money laundering.
Alien should be a category of race as male and female were made as default option.
The stealth mechanics are totally different from AC.
Two things can be true at the same time:
1) There are legitimate criticisms and deep, fundamental problems with the current direction of Star Wars.
If they made the main character look the one in the thumbnail, it would have sold a lot more too.
No magic powers!? She can punch through a Stormtrooper's helmet bare-fisted. That's some Jedi talent right there.
You're right, and you actually said the words that matter. Activists and DEI. Get Woke, Go Broke.
Real activists would go against the uglification of a female video game, and I for one would March for that, these guys are not activists, they are inactivists.
Disney did everything possible to kill George Lucas Star Wars but in the end they killed the entire franchise and turn it into an Indie franchise.
If you want to do a Star Wars game without the force, then do it about a Mandalorian.
If the character in the game were as cute as the character in the thumbnail, the game would've done at least 50% better.
I think a JRPG based on the Visions "Ninth Jedi" episode could be pretty cool.
That's my favorite episode from season 1 👌 Ninth Jedi and Lop & Ocho are peak
Omg yes please!
As an older Star Wars fan I've had enough Jedi. I love the premise of outlaws but the execution was not for me.
that golden age with lucas games from jedi outcast, bounty hunter, jedi academy, republic commando. sheeesh, fun stories, cool characters, cameos from the goats
Republic Commando is that sauce 🤌
That was heat
kotor games pandemic battlefront games force unleashed rogue squadron trilogy Swtor Star Wars galaxies x wing alliance and tie fighter games empire at war Star Wars games were awesome under lucasart era before the dark times before the EAmpire/ubimpire/Disney 🚬
The Force Unleashed was the best.
Hey bro. Hope you are well.
You too bro thanks for checking out the video 🙏
They keep pushing Female characters but it’s not working
I don’t think it’s because she is a female character. It’s because there is a political agenda attached to it.
its obvious to people that can still think for themselves rather than relying on a 3-6 second videos to tell you what to think and be outraged at
it's funny, 5 years ago I would have bought this game day one.
Ahsoka, Boba Fett, and Mando S3 were not garbage. That's just the black pill talking.
@@achaudhari101 no, they were not complete and utter garbage like rings of power. But they were incredibly mediocre and had some stupid things that should just not have been there.
@@TheExecutorr One show is still going story wise so it's not done yet.
@@achaudhari101 true, but no matter how good the next season will be, my gripes with Mando season 3 lie within the writing for some episodes of the third season. So no matter what they do in season 4, that won't fix my issues with season 3.
@@TheExecutorr Well they’re doing the movie. Yours and Favreau’s hope should be if the movie is good.
I gotta disagree there. That is a proper godawful 70s Star Wars haircut. That's like the one thing they got right.
IM a rare one who, outside of the glitches, Have really been enjoying OUTLAWS. I like that its different.
That's because you're trans. Did you not listen to the video?
Scratch Cyberpunk from that list. That was so bad that even though the DEI was not the issue. Literally everything else was.
It’s because Ubisoft went woke like Disney. They stopped caring about the content being put out. EA screwed us by giving us BB8 and BB9E instead of Ahsoka and Ventress, but they still made a good game, with a decent story. I am tired of not getting what we should be getting.
at least modding community exist EA and DICE suck delivery content except battlefield games
@@xxcaptninjaxx4301 well that’s why they pulled out of BF2. It’s because they thought more people would enjoy Battlefield 5, (which they didn’t) and ruined the whole community. Really sad
😂
Dude, im going to be real, life is more complex then a buzzword.
@@aaronlaughter6471 not really. The two companies, Disney and Ubisoft, both have staunch liberal beliefs. Because of these, most of the games that have come out of them don’t resonate with fans, then they blame the fans for it.
I find the MCs ability to punch out armored opponents bare handed rather magical.
I thought it boring.
its set after Empire - during war of the bounty hunters.
could have done more with that right there.
maybe even see Luke with his comic era Yellow Lightsaber. (which BTW the comic ended and ... they NEVER explained how Luke switches to the Green Blade) ((HOW IS THAT SKIPPED?!))
instead we just Lando playing a card game while his man is in Jabba's Palace.
could have been a story where Kay is a reason to how they get into Jabbas Palace at the start of RotJ.
it was a time where the Rebels were losing. we didn't get that. we get missions where they are in a hidden base- nothing more.
no famous Bounty Hunter fights? why not?
could be IG-88 or Dengar. or hell, give us a in game apperance for Doctor Aphra or the Terminator looking guy.
no Chewbacca? damn.
should have had more connections with Characters that we know are in this Era doing stuff.
I sound like "no luke? its not Star Wars" but ... we need more than just Map References
Honestly Kay leaking info to Lando or something would have been so cool, excellent idea tying it to Han's rescue
Ubisoft made the game. And they did give me a review code before launch. My review is on the channel
@@TheStarBazaar WAIT!! So even more so then, why support a companies endeavor to sell a product that just wants to sell us on the DEI thing? Your platform is large enough to rally for a boycott?
Had to edit my comment. This video is right on track and says everything I'm feeling about SW and gaming right now.
Bro you're on a high dose of copium if you think Lucasfilm "put a chick in it and make her gay and lame" is going to admit defeat by allowing the pre-Disney characters to be front and center in ANYTHING they make.
I know I'm huffing the stuff, I just want SW back 😔
Oh no, she is an outlaw and behaves like one and that's why she is automatically a lesbian 🤡
Jedi Academy is a 20yo game btw, and its a better version, unreal.
yeah both jedi outcast and jedi academy still has best lightsaber combat game and awesome modding community like movie duels
5:22 Blade announced in 2019, canceled in 2024
I'll be honest, I think that Squadron was well enough done that I never minded the diversity. To be fair I didn't know that the characters canonically had gender/smexual identies, but I don't know if it would have bothered me much, if at all...
Same, i only highlight it to show the clear checkboxes they ticked. Squadrons' issue was more the first point of being way too niche
If you liked squadrons you should look into the Tie FIghter Remaster mod its amazing.
Can I just ask which game is it showing that Luke Skywalker level towards the end?
Well Said!!! Good Man!!!
REASON:
- THE MANDO should have main character
- it was made by UBISOFT
- overpriced editions
- Kathleen Kennedy and Sequel trilogy
- there's more I'm sure...
Maybe mando could’ve actually gotten a personality if he had a game. Then again, he had three seasons and failed
Those Jedi dark souls games just bored me. I didn’t buy this game cuz it’s $70, looks bland with bad graphics, and I’m broke.
Wow. You’re really upset about this.
Not me, I'll take a decently made Jedi games over pretentiously "Quadruple A" experienced game any day. Kay Vess is better off as male, but...
My brother bought Outlaws pre release and even took 3 days off. I laughed at him and he had no reply.
I want Star Wars Galaxie online back before the NGE of course !!
