A long ask for review of what may be for the money and functionality, the best smart or E - Gym on the market, the Speediance Gym Monster. I was asked to review this a long time ago, but was hesitant until I had more information the product / company. I'm now (at this point) very happy to say, that this is one of the best and most unique pieces of fitness machinery I've ever tried. I'll break down the main pros, cons, how it compares to a functional trainer (or cable machine), and who overall I believe would benefit from this product. There's currently a lot of sales right now on their site, but when they're not there, use code "MikeGM" to save $120 off a Gym Monster. I get no cut back on the code, but hopefully it saves you money when the sales are not there. But do click on the link if you want to support the channel at no cost to you.

As always, if anything weird happens with this machine I'll make sure and post an update. Their current sale is better than my promo code, but if you do at some point decide to pick up a Speediance product, this link helps support the channel: shrsl.com/49z18
Its $4000 AUD how can you say its cheap or should be costing more lol you crazy!
Amazing channel for people who've decided to get into shape!
Thanks as always Jay.
Great review as always. I'm looking for an overall equipment and this is certainly going to be on my list. I wonder how it will compare to the power jym/ body elastic lever trainer that hasn't been released yet. That one also caught my eye, but this is certainly in my top three for sure
Another great review, Mike.
The number one issue I have with these machines is them breaking. If they truly believed it would last 13,000 hours, then the warranty should be much longer. Not a year or two.
$2500 is too risky to me, to invest in any of these cable machines. Bands are the way to go. Yes, bands do wear out, over a number of years, but they are very affordable to replace.
I hear you, that's a concern for sure. I will say you'd love the "chain mode" basically it's variable resistance so that in itself is amazing for various exercises. I had a clip I just didn't include it where I had the x3 belt attached and it felt great.
I absolutely love this machine! It just feels great to workout. So many features, many workout programs, and tons of moves to follow along. Worth every pennies spent on this thing.
Totally agree!
Any regret ?i really want to buy this machine but worried if it wont last long.what u think
Great review. I’ve been wanting a home gym for a while now and I was strongly considering a tonal, but I think I might get this instead. I’m just turning 30 and haven’t really settled down yet, and I anticipate that I have 1-2 more moves in me before I’m in my “forever home” I like that this doesn’t needed to be mounted on the wall, and when I can move I won’t have to go through the hassle of uninstall and install.
Thanks for watching and for the comment. I still can’t complain about this thing. One of the best (top3 for sure) things in my home gym.
This machine looks way cooler than a Tonal.
I think so too.
Thanks🥰🥰
aaah nice brother, you got one :D you look pretty happy with it!
So far so good. If anything changes I'll keep you all posted.
Finally, a good RECENT review on the gym monster. 🎉
Very happy you enjoyed it.
Too bad I haven’t received my gym monster. I’ll add that customer support has been so terrible it’s unbelievable. My gym monster has been lost in shipping and tracking land for 2 months. I’m lucky if I get an inquiry response from speediance in a week. Red flags 🚩 😓
@@DaylightRobbery83 their facebook group is fantastic and they answer quickly there
real nice!train every body part, space saving, resistance is sturdy, programs etc.i agree this is the new wave of fitness here,so functional and look smooth and cheaper than other machine of that type,i give it a 👍nice video mike!
Thank you Elad. Remind me again what equipment you're using?
@@hybridresistance im using t.g mostly,bands,dumbells,barbells,and landmine press movements,belts spuats
great review. thanks. very helpful as i shop.
Thanks so much.
Great review. I personally went with the gym pal as a beginner smart gym since it was way cheaper during early bird preorders. I’m definitely interested in a gym monster after I get a few years out of the gym pal. Maybe by then they will have a monster 2.0 or gym beast or whatever they decide to call it. I think the next thing they are working on is a bike.
That thing looks awesome as well. The future of these machines will no doubt be crazy. Thanks for watching again.
I'm in the same boat as you. I paid 1070 for the gym pal on early bird and it was a steal
Thanks for your Speediance endorsement I ordered one.
I also ordered the Harambe System the K Bundle. I don’t like the way x3 does business.
Thanks for your reviews and the sharing of your knowledge of various equipment. 👍
Thanks for trusting the channel my friend. I think you're going to love the speediance.
8:55 That was scary! 😮
haha yea, my wife gasped when she watched it first
Hey
You should do a 20 min follow along beast video.
Clubs
Kettlebell
Total Gym
A non stop sweat producing fat burner.
I’ve been doing that lately without any direction. Kinda just going at it and I love it. The clubs are mainly muscle stretching and loosening up but I love the combo.
God job on the vids
Thanks so much. I love to do something like that, just not sure how many people will have all the stuff I'd cover.
As a frequent viewer of the channel, I'm really curious what you think is a better bang for your buck, this thing or the lever gym? Lever gym definitely less convenient and looks to take up more space but it's less than half the cost. With similar functionality. And it would likely last longer.
If it holds up long term, probably this. No question I'll be using this more, but the lever gym (like you said) will likely last longer for sure.
This thing looks way cooler than I expected it to...
Now you know why this was in my mind on that "Top 5" video we did.
Hey love the videos have you tried testing the weight that this puts out? Not just by feel but like with a crane scale or standing on a scale to see how much force it is pulling? Like is the 110 pounds on one cable really pulling 110 pounds? Would be nice to know how close to free weight it is
Most of the feedback on digital weight, whether it's Tonal or Speediance, puts it at around 25-30% heavier than free weights.
Question, where do I buy the speediance in the UK? Do they ship to the UK? Is this gym sold in the UK?
Looks awesome, I wonder if you are missing the eccentric part on some exercises? What about Spotter Mode for safety, does it even work?
Thanks brother. I would with various tempos depending on exercise, point to failure, and setting I had on the machine. Spotter mode has two settings and both work great, especially for forced reps as the weight gets lighter.
1. Any chance of a review/comparison with the vitruvian?
2. Do you think the weight is enough for exercises like deadlifts?
I feel like i might look into purchasing a machine like this in the future, and the vitruvian looks like the best option available apart from the lack of pull down exercises available
Yes, that may be happening in the future. The only downside to base smart gyms is the limitation of other exercises using the tower. To me that's huge as that's where I'm using this the most.
I may have found the home gym for me. I have limited space, and this looks like it would work for me. It would be nice if they included a way to bolt it down. The cables look a bit thin, and build looks thin. Are they?
They're supposed to be made of some high quality material that can handle the ~13 yrs of use you can get out of it. But yes, that's a concern of mine as well among other parts for longevity.
Great review. How does Eccentric mode work exactly? That would be a great video review unto itself. If you can program X% more weight on Eccentric so that Concentric has good tension too (unlike Vitruvian where Concentric is 0 lbs in Eccentric mode) AND simultaneously have some sort of spotter mode that reduces weight as you tire during the set (auto drop set/reps), then that would be very interesting indeed.
I'm pretty sure you can fine tune it, but I just hit the button for pounds and basically it delivers that amount of weight slowly down for a negative.
Which package do you have ? Works, works plus, works plus max ? Etc
I gotta buy
How necessary is using their bench? Could another typical FID be used?
Good info as always!
You could use another bench, but would likely have the back legs off the platform for some exercises.
Great review. Would you go with the smaller screen or the max screen?
I think it depends how much you’re using the follow along workouts. If not, I don’t think it’s necessary really to get the big screen.
@@hybridresistance Thank you for that feedback, I truly appreciate it. I had a Total Gym XLS for 2 years. In all honesty I didn't really use it that much, so what is the logical thing to do, buy another one LOL. I bought the TG Fit and I have been using it for a couple weeks now. I love it! I would love to do their GTS system but the money was out of the question right now. The speediance looks very appealing and it's something I might look at for next year. I used to do natural bodybuilding shows (years ago). Now at the age of 43 with multiple surgeries, hardware, back fusion, and more, I am just trying to stay functional and get back into working out. Thank you for your channel, I am definitely learning a ton on the TGs from it. Keep up the great work Sir
Just curious, what leg exercises do you do using this machine? If you want to do something like leg extensions and leg curls what would be the alternatives?
I've mostly just stuck with basic squats but at a very slow cadence and then partial rep range. But I'm also pre-exhausting them prior with x3 band belt squats first. Then after squats, I'm going into RDLs. You can do some decent leg curls, but I think the leg extensions are a little cumbersome. Rumor has it, they are making a belt squat.
Great review Mike. How do you think that this compares to the Nordic Track Fusion CST Studio? Here in Canada the Speediance would cost the same or more than the Nordic Track Fusion CST Studio even with the discount.
Based on what I'm seeing with the Fusion, I personally think this is better based on my use. The Fusion's arms are more fixed and the unit itself isn't as compact / portable to move around.
@@hybridresistance Hey Mike,Thanks again for the info on this unit. Tried to buy one... only problem is it's really hard to order this and have it shipped to Canada.
As someone in their 60's, this seems safer to use than bands and free weights. Lugging and loading 45's onto bars can tweak your back if also twisting and can be hard to lift especially if you have any hand/grip issues, but maybe lugging and loading plates is also part of the training to keep you functional. Bands need some preloading which can be awkward to get under the bar or lift the handles to get into starting position. A 220 lb max load of the Speediance might be limiting. I'm deadlifting and squatting 235 and I am not even close to my potential.
All true right there. With regards to the 220lb limit, I'm finding for bigger movements (bench, squats, dlifts) , I just slow the pace and use pre-exhausts and then I have no need for the higher weights. It also just feels heavier than real weights, I can't really explain it.
@@hybridresistance Thanks for the suggestion about max weight limitations. So many of us are chasing the progressive overload as taught by Starting Strength that we seem a failure when the plateau hits. And more shameful when the 85 year old great-grandmother is deadlifting 300 and you are at 230. Do you have a video about pre-exhausts and pacing? I would love to not have to buy two more 45's to feel manly. They are getting expensive.
@SlidingBenchTrainer I found it. All I had to do was search your site for pre-exhaust; 10 super slow (3-5 seconds eccentric/concentric) and remaining regular faster pace. Thanks! ua-cam.com/video/v23QnKgQsnM/v-deo.html
How compact does it fold up? I am between this and the motion space home gym. I very little room in my small town house .. and work from home.
I have a motion space and did a review on that too, but I would that fact that this has a tower makes it much better. The it folds up from the bottom up and can then be rolled with wheels at the bottom.
Will this machine allow for slow reps in a HIT (Mentzer style) training? Thx.
Most definitely, just did that today in fact.
It sounds really great but most of us have had an electronic device mysteriously stop working. I would expect a 5 year warranty for this price.
Are there general smart gym mechanics who do house visits, or does each manufacturer fix its own products? Boxing up a faulty unit to return to the Speediance service center might require a significant amount of physical exertion.
Very true. This was a main reason I was holding off until I heard more word on the street about the quality control of this product.
Any one place an order recently? how Long does shipping take? placed an order and still waiting to hear from them!
O think this is the future of home gym for the average person....
Do you like this more than your levergym? How about compared to bands?
It’s funny you ask that, I might make a video on this. But I actually use my lever gym more
Thanks for the response. I recently purchased the brute force rapt lever gym. I did Bodylastics for years but wanted to change things up.
Do I still need the total gym if I recently purchased the Speediance gym? Not sure if I should sell my total gym.
I'd personally still keep the TG for sure. But it's really up to you if you'll take advantage of the other unique exercises that are on the total gym. I'd just make a little list of primary exercises per body part and assess if it makes sense for you.
@@hybridresistance would you say the Speediance gym targets all major muscles? I haven’t had the total gym for a long time so I really don’t know if it targets specific muscles that the Speediance gym doesn’t.
Do you think it’s better than Tonal? Exercise wise!
I haven't use a Tonal, so that's hard to say. Biggest win though is not having subscription fees, portability, and not having it bolted into a wall.
Your opinion do u like this better than the total gym?
Pound for pound, you can work more of your body more directly with this machine. Not to mention all the various intensity settings. The downside (and possibly where a sliding bench trainer would win), is that this is dependent on electricity, possibly tech failing, and some find a SBT is less stressful on parts of their body (back for ex.). Also they are cheaper.
@@hybridresistanceReally hesitating between these 2 or the option Gympal+Gr8flex...
Would this product require you to redo the Skyler King 5 pieces of home gym equipment discussion??
This was in my top 5 (I believe the last one I covered) as I had this at that time of recording.
Can you say Something about the noise? I'm a little scared it could annoy my neighbours under me.
There's a slight fan noise, but that's it. You can also turn off the music and rep beep as well. So I would consider it quiet.
I’m 6’1, would I be too tall to use this comfortably?
I’m 6ft and find it no problem. The biggest issue is doing a pull down seated. You could still pull it off but just need to back up a bit. You raise a good point that a really tall person might have issues with it.
🦍good review buddy
Thanks so much.
Great review as always but way out of my price range but cool none the less.
Thanks Lou!
So, you're giving up the X3 for this?
I still use my x3 for sure
Very cool. I can see how it’s comparable to a functional trainer. But honestly, if I had the space dedicated to working out, and I had the urge to splurge, I would probably go with a functional trainer instead. The weight turning on and off I’m not a fan of. But it is cool to see how technology has made a mark in body building. God bless bro.
This is true, if you got the space and $$ a functional may be the way to go. But there certainly unique pros that machine can do that a functional trainer cannot. For instance, there's some exercises that would be very cumbersome to set up without the ring, not having the additional resistance modes, and having the opportunity to have resistance coming directly under you.
I'm asking everyone I can find online with one of these. Is the Speediance Monster Gym stable enough with the foot platform folded that it can't be tipped over by a small child?
I suppose it could be possible depending how tall and what the child is doing with it. Better safe than sorry for sure. Very good question.
very cool, but a bit pricey
Meh. Some of my plates were acquired in high school in the '70s and I use them all the time. My kids' kids will be able to use them. Hard to beat iron.
Will you now use the SPEEDIANCE instead of your leverage gym?
I'll be using both. They do compliment each other, although I do Gym Monster is much easier to gravitate towards given the ease of use.
Jack stands
Tonal looks better
Tonal for sure is cool, but what's not is that is has to be bolted into a wall and has membership fees.
Very nice. Electronic smart results. I prefer the old-fashioned method for women of noticing your stomach getting flatter. Fitting into clothes. Nothing else counts. I wouldn't mind it, but after 4 years I don't have visible muscles. I am unquestionably thinner. I refuse to eat huge amounts of protein . My technology recently failed as I use an Amazon device and their music during my workouts. The device failed, no help after 2 hours on the phone. As a result I have purchased an old fashioned boombox. Technology fails often enough to make me skeptical. You call IT and they don't have the foggiest idea why. As a side note, when ppl are arrested now, their cell phones are confiscated. They are allowed to make a call, but they don't know anyone's number. Rant from an old lady
Haha that’s a good and valid comment. Thanks for watching again Mrs. H
A great machine....
... for women.
