This is definatly a paid or sponsored review saying it should be more when it is $4200 AUD is beyond a joke. I really wish there were some honest reviewers on youtube.
@@TankMAIN877 Ironically my last video is about my issues with "paid promotional" reviews of which I've never done. And this is certainly not one (although these guys do have many). I'm sorry to hear this thing is that much in AUD, but over in the USA (which is 95+% of my audience) it goes as low as $2k. And as a further note, I've made push back "problem" videos on this machine as well. I appreciate you watching and this comment as it help shed light on some important things such as price difference and paid videos.
As a frequent viewer of the channel, I'm really curious what you think is a better bang for your buck, this thing or the lever gym? Lever gym definitely less convenient and looks to take up more space but it's less than half the cost. With similar functionality. And it would likely last longer.
Too bad I haven’t received my gym monster. I’ll add that customer support has been so terrible it’s unbelievable. My gym monster has been lost in shipping and tracking land for 2 months. I’m lucky if I get an inquiry response from speediance in a week. Red flags 🚩 😓
I may have found the home gym for me. I have limited space, and this looks like it would work for me. It would be nice if they included a way to bolt it down. The cables look a bit thin, and build looks thin. Are they?
They're supposed to be made of some high quality material that can handle the ~13 yrs of use you can get out of it. But yes, that's a concern of mine as well among other parts for longevity.
I pulled the trigger and bought one. It is great… but no matter what new tech i buy for my gym, i still love my finnlo bio force. Very underrated and higher resistance than people realise. I just bought a micowell xmai also, which is great
This seems like the perfect compromise for a cable machine. I've owned a Freemotion Dual Cable Cross, Inspire Fitness FT2 Functional Trainer, Tytax M1, and a Titan rack in the past. Two things that never go into review considerations are the direct and indirect cost for square footage and utility space in your house and moving/remediation costs. This machine is the absolute clear winner on these fronts, so if it can live up to comparable usage with quality functional trainers, then it should be a no-brainer for most. I don't own one yet, but I am very close to changing that.
Great review. I personally went with the gym pal as a beginner smart gym since it was way cheaper during early bird preorders. I’m definitely interested in a gym monster after I get a few years out of the gym pal. Maybe by then they will have a monster 2.0 or gym beast or whatever they decide to call it. I think the next thing they are working on is a bike.
1. Any chance of a review/comparison with the vitruvian? 2. Do you think the weight is enough for exercises like deadlifts? I feel like i might look into purchasing a machine like this in the future, and the vitruvian looks like the best option available apart from the lack of pull down exercises available
Yes, that may be happening in the future. The only downside to base smart gyms is the limitation of other exercises using the tower. To me that's huge as that's where I'm using this the most.
As someone in their 60's, this seems safer to use than bands and free weights. Lugging and loading 45's onto bars can tweak your back if also twisting and can be hard to lift especially if you have any hand/grip issues, but maybe lugging and loading plates is also part of the training to keep you functional. Bands need some preloading which can be awkward to get under the bar or lift the handles to get into starting position. A 220 lb max load of the Speediance might be limiting. I'm deadlifting and squatting 235 and I am not even close to my potential.
All true right there. With regards to the 220lb limit, I'm finding for bigger movements (bench, squats, dlifts) , I just slow the pace and use pre-exhausts and then I have no need for the higher weights. It also just feels heavier than real weights, I can't really explain it.
@@hybridresistance Thanks for the suggestion about max weight limitations. So many of us are chasing the progressive overload as taught by Starting Strength that we seem a failure when the plateau hits. And more shameful when the 85 year old great-grandmother is deadlifting 300 and you are at 230. Do you have a video about pre-exhausts and pacing? I would love to not have to buy two more 45's to feel manly. They are getting expensive.
@SlidingBenchTrainer I found it. All I had to do was search your site for pre-exhaust; 10 super slow (3-5 seconds eccentric/concentric) and remaining regular faster pace. Thanks! ua-cam.com/video/v23QnKgQsnM/v-deo.html
I absolutely love this machine! It just feels great to workout. So many features, many workout programs, and tons of moves to follow along. Worth every pennies spent on this thing.
Thanks for your Speediance endorsement I ordered one. I also ordered the Harambe System the K Bundle. I don’t like the way x3 does business. Thanks for your reviews and the sharing of your knowledge of various equipment. 👍
Great review. I’ve been wanting a home gym for a while now and I was strongly considering a tonal, but I think I might get this instead. I’m just turning 30 and haven’t really settled down yet, and I anticipate that I have 1-2 more moves in me before I’m in my “forever home” I like that this doesn’t needed to be mounted on the wall, and when I can move I won’t have to go through the hassle of uninstall and install.
@@hybridresistance Thank you for that feedback, I truly appreciate it. I had a Total Gym XLS for 2 years. I have a motion space and did a review on that too, but I would that fact that this has a tower makes it much better. The it folds up from the bottom up and can then be rolled with wheels at the bottom.
Hey love the videos have you tried testing the weight that this puts out? Not just by feel but like with a crane scale or standing on a scale to see how much force it is pulling? Like is the 110 pounds on one cable really pulling 110 pounds? Would be nice to know how close to free weight it is
Thanks brother. I would with various tempos depending on exercise, point to failure, and setting I had on the machine. Spotter mode has two settings and both work great, especially for forced reps as the weight gets lighter.
Just curious, what leg exercises do you do using this machine? If you want to do something like leg extensions and leg curls what would be the alternatives?
I've mostly just stuck with basic squats but at a very slow cadence and then partial rep range. But I'm also pre-exhausting them prior with x3 band belt squats first. Then after squats, I'm going into RDLs. You can do some decent leg curls, but I think the leg extensions are a little cumbersome. Rumor has it, they are making a belt squat.

Great review Mike. How do you think that this compares to the Nordic Track Fusion CST Studio? Here in Canada the Speediance would cost the same or more than the Nordic Track Fusion CST Studio even with the discount.
Based on what I'm seeing with the Fusion, I personally think this is better based on my use. The Fusion's arms are more fixed and the unit itself isn't as compact / portable to move around.

Pound for pound, you can work more of your body more directly with this machine. Not to mention all the various intensity settings. The downside (and possibly where a sliding bench trainer would win), is that this is dependent on electricity, possibly tech failing, and some find a SBT is less stressful on parts of their body (back for ex.). Also they are cheaper.
I'd personally still keep the TG for sure. But it's really up to you if you'll take advantage of the other unique exercises that are on the total gym. I'd just make a little list of primary exercises per body part and assess if it makes sense for you.
@@hybridresistance would you say the Speediance gym targets all major muscles? I haven’t had the total gym for a long time so I really don’t know if it targets specific muscles that the Speediance gym doesn’t.
Great review. How does Eccentric mode work exactly? That would be a great video review unto itself. If you can program X% more weight on Eccentric so that Concentric has good tension too (unlike Vitruvian where Concentric is 0 lbs in Eccentric mode) AND simultaneously have some sort of spotter mode that reduces weight as you tire during the set (auto drop set/reps), then that would be very interesting indeed.

This is true, if you got the space and $$ a functional may be the way to go. But there certainly unique pros that machine can do that a functional trainer cannot. For instance, there's some exercises that would be very cumbersome to set up without the ring, not having the additional resistance modes, and having the opportunity to have resistance coming directly under you.
