    The cable whipping on the Olympic lifting was CRAZY!

    • @flymypg
      @flymypg 2 місяці тому +1

      To be avoided! The Tonal and other digital resistance machines do the same when motion is fast and weight is light. The main issue is that the cable can get a twist or even a knot in it, or can be abraded by going through the pullies off-axis, greatly limiting the cable life. Always care for the cables!

    No WiFi or subscription is a huge factor, but a pro model that could go up to 500 or so would capture a much larger market.

    Hooooly, this is SO freaking cool. Currently I live in a condo that has a gym in it, but if I ever choose to move into a bigger place and lose easy access to a gym, I am 100% getting this. I'm so happy to know this exists lol. Love all the features

    I'm a huge Tonal fan, as my personal trainer has one, and his single membership covers ALL his clients! While the Tonal hardware itself is slightly cheaper than Speediance (due to Tonal's Black Friday Sale), the monthly membership adds $720/year, which is just silly, especially since the extended warranty support cost is ON TOP of that, rather than included. Tonal has priced itself right out of my personal market.
    Tonal wins on its smaller stored space and the huge adjustable range of its arms, but I'm not sure how much real-world value those differences provide, as the portability of the Speediance may offset those items. One clear mechanical advantage is the Tonal arms can touch an 8' ceiling, which allows for a maximal useful exercise volume, though again I'm not sure I really need to do overhead standing pull-down exercises. Edit: Plus, the wall-mounted Tonal is probably not for renters!
    Speediance certainly looks good, but I'll need to dig deeper before I'm able to more completely compare it to Tonal (and Vitruvian and Oxefit) based on cost, hardware and exercise.
    That said, I do tend to buy things Ali tells me to buy. I already got the toe separators and the Saunabox. Could Speediance be next?
    Edit: My personal benefits from digital lifting (not specific to Speediance or Tonal):
    1) I'm no longer afraid to go full-range with greater weight, especially as I've aged (I'm 68). For example, going deeper on my chest presses has given me "pec wings" next to my armpits, plus filled in that annoying upper pec dip below my collar bone. I've been lifting (as part of strength training) for 26 years, and those two areas nagged me until I started using a Tonal 3 years ago. Yes, that's what my trainer and I call "vanity muscle", but if I'm gonna work for it, I'd like it to show!
    2) I have worsening back problems (degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, scoliosis), yet I'm still able to do deadlifts and RDLs due to the machine actively helping to keep me safe. Having a strong back slows down all my symptoms, and digital lifting makes it possible. Having a control button on my finger or on the bar/handle makes working out alone MUCH safer.
    3) The digital lifting machine is ALWAYS CHALLENGING ME! As I get stronger and sets get easier, the next time I do that lift it will automatically be kicked up a notch. The damned machine knows me far too well, and I get to reap the benefits!
    4) No handling plates. I can't overemphasize how quickly one bad lift, twist or reach can wreck my back. I'll do similar movements in the context of a specific exercise, but not in the less-controlled environment of moving iron around. Plus, having to reset iron between lifts means cycling between different exercises takes longer. I want to spend my time working out with only minimal breaks (to stay warmed up), without fear or ruining my back or crushing my fingers. That I can pre-program specific lifts in a specific order means digital lifting is a huge win for the flow and focus of my workouts.

    My husband is shopping for a new home weight system and I really want something like this. It looks super cool. I do worry about what happens if the company were to go out of business (Sorry Speediance folks, that probably doesn’t feel like the world has much confidence in you!) and would my machine still work. But it looks awesome and the (small amount of) physical space it requires is definitely a plus!

      Check out Votra I by Beyond Power. No subscriptions. And, use it on any existing gym you own or use. You own it. There is no subscription or ever will be one. It is like a 20 lb. portable weight system with resistance up to 200 lbs. that does exactly what this device does.

      It looks like there's a free weight mode for when the wifi isn't working, so theoretically if the company went under that would be what you'd have. Though I also wonder what their tech support and warranty support is like.

      The machine should maintain most of its features other than the courses and maybe ai but in the very worst case scenario it will still be able to do free lift so you can lift wights with it and it isn’t an expensive coat hanger

      Agreed, and also the iron I own is an investment, it's gone up in value at a faster pace than gold, it doesn't depreciate whereas this device most certainly will.
      Having said that, it does look amazing

  • @verdedoodleduck
    @verdedoodleduck 2 місяці тому +3

    Great machine! I don't think you want to completely skip the free weights. As you mentioned there's peripheral strength gain as you load and unload the bar, grip and move the dumbells, etc. I've noticed that if I stick to machines, I end up mostly being able to do the machine's limited movement but it doesn't transfer as well to similar lifts (e.g. machine curls don't keep up with bar curls don't keep up with dumbbell curls. Double that for legs. That's me, anyway. :))

    If I had $3K to spend on exercise equipment it would be original Nautilus. This is totally unnecessary for the segment of the population that it's made for. They can get everything they need w/out spending a penny, but if they wanted some equipment under a grand easy. For most way under. And a good place to start would be a trap bar which does a lot more than 2 exercises, and is very safe for lone home trainers.

    I ordered one of these after first hearing about it from this video. I got the Gym Monster 1 Works Plus, which was supposed to come with the adjustable bench. The weight belt and the barbell hooks were also supposed to be included. None of these items were delivered. Speediance is NOT being helpful at all. It was a HUGE waste of money, because now I'm going to have to buy a bench separately. If they weren't going to include the bench anyway, I should have just ordered the base unit, since I'm going to have to buy a bench separately now.
