    No split tailgate is a deal breaker for me. Love everything else about the car. Such a shame, I hope a the split tailgate comes back maybe in the 2nd gen 300 series face lift model or somthing.

      I would probably sell my current 300 to get one with a split tailgate 😆. But all in all, it's a great vehicle. Best I've ever owned.

      Never owned one with a split tail gate, but i sit on the rear bumper and have the door open And makes a good roof. Think split one would be harder to reach into the back

    Thanks, guys-good review! This is probably the last model year before Toyota starts adding AdBlue to 300.

    Cool video guys very informative. I was at a mates place the other week and 3 of us were talking about the oil issues and watched a youtube video on it. It sounds like the inner main or conrod bearings (i can't remember now) have been failing, and thicker oils are recommended but Toyota say there is not issue. Be careful with that mate.

    • @Jillianda
      @Jillianda 2 місяці тому +3

      @@FlatBrokeAdventures from what I have read, it’s only been one vehicle which was chopped and loaded quite heavily, which had a high GVM upgrade, which was why the warranty was refused, and though it’s said the cause was lack of oil, the jury is still out to the actual cause of the lack of oil.
      It has also been suggested that it could have been the dealer not filling it up with oil…
      The plot thickens.
      Though one failure doesn’t make multiple failures.

    • @FlatBrokeAdventures
      @FlatBrokeAdventures 2 місяці тому +3

      @@Jillianda that is true 1 failure doesn't make multiple failures, but I was of the understanding that it was more than 1 failure. But then who wants to be number 2 failure?

    • @Jillianda
      @Jillianda 2 місяці тому +3

      @ yeah, you are right, though I guess you have to put it into perspective, there’s tens of thousands of them running out there now, and some are not being treated as well as they should be, I have heard of several owners putting petrol in the tank, and just thinking “she’ll be right mate “ and eventually it comes back to bite them and then it gets blown out of proportion and that’s where the story starts when it does fail….
      Social media I guess makes a story worth reading..🤓

      Nice read through this conversation, thanks those that responded, yes ive watched a couple and know of 3 failures, one being a bog stock one, which im under the impression was using oil and not monitored, Yes Jim, I watched that video with the big end, and Just autos video too, which they followed up with a 2nd quite quickly, I was one of the 1st to be doing an oil change in the 1gd 79 of mine in Sydney, and if you remember the videos back then on not being able to find the info on oil grades, to the point that Sydney city changed the oils being used

      Hey guys, I’m the owner of the chopped 300 in WA that failed, I’ve had direct contact with 9 other 300s with engine failure and have heard of more but can’t confirm those ones.

  • @TheMadCompass-ir2yt

    Just to add some info on your weights I’m pretty certain your take your kerb weight from your GVM so it’s 3280gvm - 2630kerb = 650kg. But then you have to minus your ball weight which is 350kg’s leaving you with a payload of 300kg’s. Check with Toyota but I’m certain this is correct. Worth checking so you don’t void any insurance or warranty issues. I enjoyed watching this keep up the good work👍

    Had a 300. Absolutely hated it. Tailgate is rubbish, position of fuel filter is terrible, touch screen is difficult to reach too left hand corner. The plastic panels under ghe bonnet are a poor fit, the cruise control is dreadful-slows down then kicks back hard and by the time you getvto the too of the hill youre suddenly over the speed limit. The turbos flutter, they make the bonnet hot. Oil consumption is poor. The aluminium panels under ghe “drum” (noisey) in the rain, it feels tinny like a prado (indid a review in 2022 and said it felt like a prado v6) lol! And today we learn prado 250, the lexus and 300 are basically the same (atvleast the prado has a better tailgate).
    Its my last landcruiser. Sold the 79 too. Kept my fj45. Still have a hilux to do basic farm work. Sorry for typos

    Interesting about its payload, in standard form it’s less than my Prado 150 GX 5 seat.
    Beautiful car, but you do wonder if the GX model is the way to go given it’s approaching 50k cheaper and you are getting the same basics. Use $20k of that for f & r and sill protection, a lift and a locker that you can use in high range with TC still switchable.
    You partner obviously loves the car and you know what they say; happy wife, happy life…😊
    Cheers

      I can only agree that the GX is the pick of the 300s.
      Around 2 years ago I changed over from a 2015 - 150 1KD GX and into a 300s GX and can say it is a good step up or more so, step over to the Cruiser. I still think the Prado was a better all round vehicle including the swing tail gate and 150lt fuel range.
      I only swapped in order to better vehicle to legally tow a 2.8 tonne van and can say the power is appreciated. Overall I am more than happy with the vehicle despite a few issues.

    What you do lose is the Variable suspension settings.

    I have a Sahara with a 2 inch lift 275 x 70 r18 wheels & an ARB base rack o the roof. It's 2.07 high & squeezes into 2.1M car parks. I also twin locked it with Harrop e-lockers. Would have been cheaper to buy the GRS but bought what was available from stock at the time.

      How do you find that tyre size? I’ve been thinking it’s a good option as it gives a good clearance boost without the extra weight and rolling resistance of 285. Also good sidewall.

    I wouldn't have thought EGTs would get that high for a 300 towing a load like that. Is the sensor located in the dump?
    The thing that throws me about it any every other bloody new diesel is knowing that engine wise they're all compromised and breathing terribly with the EGR/DPF and god knows what other emissions devices it's running.
