Of course we all want performance and quality in vehicle design. But the big lesson I learned from you, I think, is that it is equally important that all of the components be serviceable as well. With increased complexity, serviceability should become a top priority.
I drove a 1968 Land Cruiser. I was in high school in 1974 and it had “three on the tree”. I love being involved with the vehicle while driving. Also easy to fix. Lots of room under the hood. I could hide in the engine bay.
AMD, in South Africa this vehicle is called the Prado, and it comes with the highly regarded and reliable 2.8 turbodiesel engine found in the Hilux, Landcruiser, Fortuner etc. It also comes with thin, square headlamps that look really nice. This is my dream car. (The diesel version 😊)
Excellent review, I really want to upgrade my RAV4 to the new Land Cruiser or 4Runner. One thing I’ve noticed from all the videos out there is the inability of folks to realize how useful the cargo space or “third row” cup holders and USB-C ports really are when you fold the seats down and turn that space into a bed for camping or just an area to kick back with the tailgate open. I’m so glad Toyota left them for all models, because they’re so much more useful than reviewers give credit. I can’t wait to hop back there and have a place for my beverage, and a place to charge my phone or tablet. Nice work, Toyota!
@@benw5022 Agreed regarding the hatch and not the floor. I am sure the floor over the battery holds more as isn't that where the 3 rd row seats would be?
I am waiting for the new 4runner... I can say it's a nice change having a mechanic do car/truck reviews. Much better than so many auto journalists doing reviews.
This new LC is like when my wife tries to trick me with "turkey bacon". And jeez, even the rear sliding cargo tray on my 5th Gen 4runner will hold 400 lbs WHILE fully extended. A 120 lb weight limit in the rear of the LC is basically unusable for anything except some light groceries.
18:39 the cover is designed to also protect the threads on the front control arm. I guess the skid plate could have been designed larger to close that gap but a skid plate is designed for strength, not as an airdam, aero surface or debris shield, matter fact Ive seen them pick up a lot of river stone, mud.
Best review on the 2024 Land Cruiser. One issue: the 135 lb / 60 kg weight limit is for the small plastic cover over the storage area at the rear hatch ( and probably the mirror storage area right behind the second row seats). It would be difficult to apply enough weight to those areas and break the covers. The main trunk area can support tents, refrigerators, etc....
I guess I go back even further. My wife wants me to get rid of my 85 Toy P/U because it does not have antilock brakes or an airbag. In the 25 years I have owned it, I have not replaced anything on it that was not considered a maintenance item. I WOULD like to find a long bed that isn't rusted out to replace the collapsed bed I have on it. But zero rust on the cab...
@@ThorosiousDi paid under 25k for my 200 series with 180k miles. Nobody is paying that money for an LC with that mileage, doesnt matter if its triple locked or not

This is one of the best car reviews I’ve ever seen. True feedback esp from a technical perspective. I am considering this model and this really helped me with questions I had about it and I learned more about the quality in it.
AMD, I have noticed some of the new Land Cruisers are made by Hino just like the FJ Cruiser and T100 pickup. The simple interior of the 1958 is fine but the cheap door panels are a little disappointing at this price. While we consider the longevity of the new turbo-hybrid powertrain, it is worth noting the legendary 2TR-FE 2.7 engine is still being used for other markets. 🤩
Which engine do you think is the best in the Land Cruiser 250, the 2.7, the 2.4, the 2.4 hybrid or the 2.8 diesel? I'm thinking of importing one from Japan and sadly they only have the 2.7L in the base trim and then diesel only. Alternative would be the Caucasus region where they get the 2.4 without the hybrid which gives you more cargo space and definitely the simplest powertrain apart from the 2.7 liter, but that only has the old 6-speed and is rather underpowered. The third choice would be Canada for a hybrid, which definitely has the most omph and is also tied with the diesel as the most fuel efficient.
I bought a 2007 LX470 in great condition instead. After I fully serviced it, it was still half the price. With proper care it will probably outlast the 2024 unit.
Haha so did I, an 06 after spending three years looking at different listings, I found a perfect example. We’ve already taken it up many mountain trails in WVa
@@brkbtjunkie Good move. I spent about a month changing ALL fluids and filters plus valve cover gaskets and some more service type issues. Mine has 130,000 miles and runs and looks like new. Southern truck with no rust.
I sat in one of these at the dealership. It felt so different from my 2022 4Runner. I hope they can prove themselves over time, but in the meantime I’m going to do everything AMD has taught me to make my truck last 👍
I found AMD after I bought my 2020 4Runner. So far so good. Only 15,000 miles but it's solid and I love it. I will probably have for 20 years, then look at the next 4Runner.
We bought the 2024 Lexus RX500 hybrid and the suv surges when at a stop. Usually happens when you have your foot on the brake lightly. The surge is like someone letting out on a manual clutch that doesn’t know how operate one. This happens unexpectedly and is scary, because you have to put it in park or it might continue surging into the car in front of you. So this might be our last Lexus.
What do you mean in the back? Also the Prado massively downgrade by removing the spare tire from the rear door and making it a hatch. Literally every mall crawler now has a spare on the back and what does Toyota do?😂 That Prado used to have a 39.6 gallon fuel tank. This new Prado has a 21 gallon tank, laughable! Toyota is fumbling so hard right now. TNGA has been a disaster for capability.
60kg max basically means you cannot use the trunk for anything useful. You could not even sleep in there. The hybrid thing is completely killing the purpose of that car.
BIG problem! I didn’t even know that, I know the battery pack can not take too much weight but only 60kg is laughable. It’s the Land Cruiser, even a Camry can hold heavily load than this
No Turbo’s for us. I purposefully bought a new 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed. With the Premium and Technology pkgs, it’s basically a Limited with the Off Road suspension and drive system. I looked for about 9 months before I found my truck. Our dealership had it for 8 months but no one wanted the 6’ bed and that’s what I need. I bought it on 2/29/24. I’m super happy that I found it. My dealer knocked off almost $5K off the MSRP and gave me the Trifold tonneau cover and running boards, lifetime free oil changes and tire rotation as well as an 8 year 75K mile bumper to bumper warranty.
I felt in love with it, now I'm thinking twice if i buy this model. 😅 Great review guys, great production great video sound/mic quality. Makes the whole difference.
Thanks for actually reviewing it, not just regurgitating the specs like most other "reviewers". It would be helpful if you could show some diagrams for spme of the engine details because I am having a hard time picturing some of the things you're talking about.
I think Toyota did a great job with this, but in true American style, they launched it VERY Heavyy on the Landcruiser branding... Here in South Africa It's just a Prado 250, it's close but it's not THE Landcruiser, if you know what I mean? The reality is we have the 300 Series Landcruiser here, or LX600 there in the states, It would be interesting to compare that with the LC250 and see the differences.
Only you can make a feature length “movie” review of a new Toyota and we would happily watch it fully and multiple times. Thanks for this in-depth review!
Gotta hand it to Toyota engineers, my 2013 Lexus ES hybrid batteries are 11 years old and the vehicle gets precisely the same mileage it did new. And in 11 years battery tech and wear leveling has improved even more, so I wouldn’t be too concerned with the batteries “not lasting” - something I hear from many non hybrid owners often.
@imnotusingmyrealname4566 and that guy is full of shit anyhow. This guy wants to make people think that everyone he knows all own Toyotas and Lexus' and not one ever had a single issue and nothing ever replaced even after hundreds of thousands of miles. He works, eat and sleeps Toyota and we'll probably jerks to them also.

Scotty is entertainment, don’t take anything he says seriously. He literally said do not buy hybrids because the starter will wear out. (They don’t have starter motors)
This is a Landcruiser in name only, imo. I will take the GX 550 offroad trim model. Great review, brother, as always. AMD is the best thing that ever happened to Toyota/Lexus
GX has equally bad powertrain. Older GX used 1UR-FE V8 engine which was bulletproof along with KDSS and a solid truck platform, offroad king. Older LC used 3UR engine V8 which is reliable beast. This LC is a joke, only in the name and weak 4 popper garbage engine. Interior is also a joke. Toyota dropped ball big time for Trucks. Only worth is 4Runner 2024.
@alexsmba IS, GS, RC don't have any Toyota variants, and the F line which uses 2UR -GSE engine was never put in any Toyota commercial consumer cars either. And what's wrong with better quality Toyota ? 2GR FKS V6 is used in Camry BUT also in Lexus, with a much better NVH and interior.
Excellent presentation as always. The only thing missing is a side by side photo shoot with the FJ-60! I love the fact that TOYOTA finally decided to offer a utilitarian LC, and the "base" 1958 trim has everything that matters.
Same here, I have a 2014 UTTE that the wife and I just completed a 12 day 4300mile trip without one problem…..and I had well over 120lbs in the back of it.
Respectfully disagree- the GX OVERTRAIL trim is the way to go. He reviewed the wrong trim of the new GX a couple of months ago. Doesn’t have that gimmicky battery pack either taking up valuable cargo space.
I worked in Chrysler Plymouth Dealership as a Tech in 80s and 90s. They put turbo engines in lots of vehicles. Overall we had very little issues with them. Can't believe all these yrs later they couldn't have it perfected
TCCN, what everyone watching wants to know is, can I put 33’s and a lift on and not destroy the hybrid system??? I can build something to protect the battery pack. I can live with the premium only. I love the basic interior, grease zirks on the prop shaft, how easy it would be to put high clearance bumpers on but the hybrid system and oversized wheel tire combo’s that could be a deal breaker. Great review! Thanks for dropping all the Toyota knowledge.
A wonderful and thoughtful review on what appears to be a nice vehicle. Looked like a worthy replacement for my 2017 Forester until I looked up the price of the "base" 1958... 55,000 dollars. Well, I had my daily laugh! Toyota could have offered a more affordable base by having a part-time 4 wheel drive, crank windows, no heated seats or steering wheel, no rear wiper, a front-wheel drive only version using the ECVT from the Rav 4. I realize these deletions would detract from the over all appeal and all-purpose character... but 55,000 dollars, plus dealer markups, plus taxes... this will end up costing 70 thousand plus when all is said and done. Which makes this vehicle another failed effort of the auto industry that is not affordable for the masses.
The Euro model comes in only 2.8 Diesel option not Hybrid like USA. Would be great if you could share some of you expert insight on the diesel engine model.
No One in their Right Minds would think replacing a 4.7L V8 or a V6 with a 4-Cylinder engine as an UPGRADE. And the mated Electronic Motor just makes the design far more complicated and less reliable.
It not an"upgrade". It like he said, people complained that the LC was too expensive and out of reach for most buyers. So Toyota came up with a less expensive, more accessible version. You pay less and get less. No way to get around that. You obviously didn't watch the video.
200 Series owner here. My 2013 just turned over 200k miles. Ive thought about these, but I dont want the 4 banger or even the turbo 6. Ill keep my big gas guzzling 5.7 for another 200k miles before I think about it again.

A lot of people, including me, like to sleep in their vehicles when camping. The lack of load capacity in the rear along with the way they've designed the folding seat puts this vehicle in the no-go category. Would love to get on board w/it, but it's out for me simply because of that one critical issue. What a terrible choice!
1990 LC and 4Runner cost similarly. 1990 Land Cruiser 155hp i6 engine: $22k base price = $53k in 2024, Loaded 1990 4Runner with 160hp V6 was $25k or $60k in 2024 dollars.
It's crazy to think the amount of Engineering in a vehicle like this. We just get in our vehicles and drive and sometimes it takes an amazing review like this to make you realize the level of thought and planning that has to go into this
Too expensive and complicated even for a base model. I think a base without the hybrid and that runs on regular gas would be better. I think people are wise to hold onto their older gen Toyota off-roaders until they get a better feel for reliability and cost to own on these newer platforms. I went in for a 22 Tacoma with the 6 cylinder because I did not want to cross my fingers on the new platforms. So glad I cancelled my 22 Tundra order. Unclear what the market is for these? Status symbol? Excellent and comprehensive review. Thank you.
I agree with you 100%, For $78K in San Jose, California, I would take a Mercedes or a Volvo. This is very cheap looking car in person and the back is totally useless.
didn't hear a word about how to replace the engine? If like the new Tundra then what a nightmare. And agree no-one knows the cost of upkeep on these. Total disaster IMO>
I’ve literally been binge watching every video on this channel and the other channel. I LOVE IT AND IM HOOKED. Can we get to see some bmw (x5/6 with the n63) or Kia (k5 2.5 NA engine) content pls?
No. Seeing how manufacturers are cutting costs and reliability declines, it’s setup for failure, ESPECIALLY since these new motors are designed with the EPA from the start.
@@truthkeeperfilms just a shame. I once owned a 77 K5 Blazer tricked out with captains chairs, 350 engine, corvette cam, lift kit, steel 43 gallon gas tank, tube bumpers, hub conversion. I live in fairly affluent area. These rigs will be parked at boutique stores and fancy restaurants. Probably won’t see these on a dirt road for another 10 years or so. The only people who will care about the skid plate or load height will be the ones who buy this LC in 15 years as a used vehicle.
Toyotas used to be easy to purchase, economical cars, reliable, without major recalls, good technology. Not anymore. Hard to get, stubborn company and dealerships, outdated techs, jacked up prices compared to features , lagging behind in tech so much
Toyota/Lexus are still more reliable than 99% of other brands. No car brand is perfect. Toyota/Lexus always had some issues and recalls. They just had way less issues than its competitors. You can't expect modern-day, high-tech vehicles to be as reliable as a basic mechanical, no computer vehicles built in the '70s, '80s and early '90s. The recalls represents a small fraction of the total number of vehicles built by Toyota in that time period.

120 pound limit in the cargo area? That's a problem. Thanks for bringing that to light.
Right I’m sure I’m exaggerating but if i want to sleep ijthe back I’m 300lbs so it doesn’t support my weight.
I think the 60kg limit is referring to the little hatch door he lifts up at 41:27. It’s not referring to the whole back trunk.
It's only the limit of that removable panel storage area. Notice how when he read it, it says 'the board could break'.
To realized that the new upcoming 6th Gen 4Runner has the same system with the Battery placement, if you go with the hybrid option.
The 2025 4Runner might not be released until March.
The turkey bacon analogy was awesome. I literally laughed out loud!!
120 lbs of groceries is a weird example, but I get what you're saying!
Someone in the aftermarket will figure out how to add an armored platform and triple that load capacity.
Can't even carry gear and supplies for two people to go out camping for a week.
I believe the weight limit is just for that little hatch over the first six inches, not the whole trunk.
18:39 the cover is designed to also protect the threads on the front control arm. I guess the skid plate could have been designed larger to close that gap but a skid plate is designed for strength, not as an airdam, aero surface or debris shield, matter fact Ive seen them pick up a lot of river stone, mud.
These reviews keep getting better and better and Ahmed gets me wanting to buy every Toyota, except the bZ!!! It’s the Yugo of the Toyota lineup!!
It would only take a small person above that weight sitting right there to break it. That's where people sit all the time to tie shoes, tailgate, etc.
@@mediocreman2 I have 24 Land Cruiser. Great truck. I can assure you that it would not be impossible to break it, but close to impossible.
Do you have kids, big dog or do you ever pop the door and seat there to watch the Ocean, lake or mountain?

The best Toyota technical review ALL THE TIME. AMD is amazing.
I have a 1997 Land cruiser triple locked axles Collectors Edition under 200k mileage. Hard to beat what I already own…🎯
And currently worth a fortune. Those only go up in value.
Oh so each axle has three lockers? That's awesome!
@@ThorosiousD For that price you can keep it
@@ThorosiousDi paid under 25k for my 200 series with 180k miles. Nobody is paying that money for an LC with that mileage, doesnt matter if its triple locked or not
I love it and as a 60 year old mechanic in Australia I have had many Toyotas and covered millions of kms and never ever had a breakdown, I’m ordering one. We are getting the diesel.
Eat poop
That engine is definitely among the most reliable engines ever made. It's up there with all the legends.

I sat in one of these at the dealership. It felt so different from my 2022 4Runner. I hope they can prove themselves over time, but in the meantime I’m going to do everything AMD has taught me to make my truck last 👍

The more I watch this, the more I love my 2000 LC. Simple. Capable.
Excellent review. My only issue is how Ahmed loves that it’s non gimmicky with so many simple low grade finishes but $60,000 is a high end price tag
Simple doesn’t mean cheap. Quality can be simple, and complexity costs on the back end more than the front end.
The first reviewer to mentioned the 60kg load limit in the back. That is a big problem.
Wtf. I didn't even know that. Well guess this is a shit land cruiser. 120 lbs only, I weight 180 lbs and that could break with me crawling in there.
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566the only thing I'm replacing my 2012 4.0 Prado with is a 2023 4.0 Prado.

The problem is the car hybrids drive like shit. The truck hybrid is much better because it has a regular transmission with torque converter.

The GX550 - best off-roader on the 405! The 250 is more suitable for trails than the bloated 200/300.
