This is going to be a great series and very colorful to. I love all your series your grading system is awesome. And as always another great pick. Thanks for all the great videos.
That's a really nice collection of aluminum padlocks. I can't wait to see more of this series. I really like the grading system you came up with. Keep up the good work!
Nicely done, great idea with the scoring system, and you got a lot of locks together, more than I was expecting, that Chinese one put up more of a fight than was expecting as well, great job again, looking forward to the rest of the series, should be good.
Thanks... This would have been near impossible to rank these locks without some kind of point system since they all are so close in design. Granted, the criteria and assigned points are a bit arbitrary, but I think it will work out. As for the Chinese lock, that was a bit of a surprise as well... what you saw on video was probably the longest it ever took me to open it (using that pick), but you what they say about the camera adding 2 minutes.
***** 1) the Chinese was definitely nice compared to others I've seen, and it will not come in last. 2) strong chemical smell... not sure how else to describe it. 3) Thanks on the Avocet. I'd never heard of the lock before I saw it on ebay... they are really not that bad if you take the time to think through your approach. That said, the lock does not leave much margin for error.
Single picked my first American 1100 6 pin today! Thanks for the inspiration for a new compulsion. 2 weeks in, hands hurt. Masterlock #1,3,570,140 down now 6 pin American. Next
So nice to all these locks at a glance. Great lock this generic one. We have similar locks here that can be found in the hardware store, I believe for about 7 EUR. They have 6 pins and look exactly the same as yours. Great series - cheers.
Looking forward to this series, should be quite some fun. So far, the only lock I have, out of these (since I've only been picking for a few months) is the American. I can usually open it when I try and it is by far my favorite lock to open, since the spools give such positve feedback. Waiting for my followers to arrive so Ican gut mine and see what's inside.
I spent a month doing nothing but picking American locks (I had a few dozen used locks) when I was first starting out. As you say, they provide excellent feedback and because of that, I think they are very good teacher locks.
Looking forward to the series, I've recently done something similar. I've picked the American, Abus, Kasp, Federal and Matlock, but the Squire gave me a reel problem, sloppy keyway but I got it in the end 👍
Looks like this will be a great series. I’m often amazed by how often locks with good pick resistance have bad physical security and vice versa. So I’d enjoy if you include whether the lock is shim-able, and possibly even if it has a hardened steel shackle. But in any case, I will be watching the series which I find fascinating as it is.
Thanks. Ranking the pick resistance of these locks is definitely an academic exercise since the core is far from the weakest link in each of these locks... tiny shackles, AL bodies, highly wrenchable design. Someone looking to defeat these locks has quite a few options before picking. That said, the exercise will still be fun. PS - none of these locks are shimable.
This little chinese lock did pretty well :). I would not be surprised, if it is exactly the same as one of the other locks, just without branding, or at least a very good copy.
I know ;). I just thought, well, perhaps it's made in the same factory as one of the models, just without branding. That's a common practice I know from food.
Thanks... I'm anxious to see your take on this as well. Anything you think I missed (either locks, or points to address)? After more reflection, I think that I am going to subtract a few points for bypasses.
Oh, my take is nowhere near as well thought out, I actually find these locks pretty tough to pick still too, lol importantly, I learnt a lot doing it. You also have at lest 50% more locks than I do. I'm very impressed
***** I hope people don't use this series to choose a lock... These locks should never be used for any kind of security ever. They are LOTO locks, and that is all.
I wish I could give you a price comparison, but it's really difficult. Prices vary by the day, but the region, by the country, by the seller, etc. Also, since I am a bargain hunter, the prices I see are not what most people would see. Many of these locks were gifts, but of the ones that I bought, I only paid more than $7 for one of them (the 1100 with the Edge keyway)... on 4 of them, I paid less than $3. In short, comparing prices would be a beast of a research project that wouldn't give very reliable answers.
hey LPL are you sure you just didn't go to the love bridge in Paris and take those locks off. LOL can't wait to see the series on this video thanks for sharing 😎😎😎 I would say that China is really paying attention.im still picturing you down on one knee with your #7 takeing these locks off lol.what inventory you must have thanks for sharing. 😎😎
That is so obviously inspired by the American lock. The little drain holes are drilled exactly in the same place. I would not be surprised if you could drop in an APCT12 and a compatible actuator directly into the lock. Shame about the rust on the screw as it's otherwise comparable to at least a post-2001 Master Pro Series.
Yeah, with those safety lockout locks the key thing is the number of differs and the tolerances of the core. They don't want two guys with nominally different keys opening each others locks by accident. I'm somewhat surprised they bother with security pins at all. I figured American did it because the cores came from the very same bin as the ones in their high (phyiscal) security locks, the same probably hold for many of these.
I always thoroughly enjoy your series. I have that same chinese padlock, They smell horrible. I feel like I'm going to get some weird cancer just by holding it. But I got a box of 12 for like 30 but so I con't complain. I've gutted a lot of mine and they run the gambit. from no security pins to all spool drivers.
OMG!!! It does smell horrible! I was barely choking out the words at the very end because the smell was really getting to me! I think I got the same $12 pack as you... I don't remember the price, but it was probably in that neighborhood. I figured that I would drop American serrated pins in them for practice locks, but I never got around to it.
Hahahah that is way to funny! I got the for the same reason to put better cores in them but can't take the smell, I tried striping one but it turned into a gooey mess so I threw it away. I still have them but I feel bad giving them to anyone, lol.
I'm thinking the Americans & Abus will have the same amount of points. Only because off top of head I'm not sure if Abus gives the full 6 pins or leaves one out.
Shaun Michael last one I picked had all 6 (1standard 5spools), imo the American keyway isn't paracentric but will get points for all security pins including keypins
Now that I think about it, they will be close... Abus has 6 pins and a tougher keyway. American has serrated key pins. The American probably has the edge if I get one with a 6 pin core from the factory.
Great series, I had no idea there is so many 40mm aluminium padlocks. I'm looking forward on the next part. Have you acquired the generic chinese padlock on some online sites or is it from some hardware store?
Can you pick the farmers 13 lock that Bosnianbill can't pick? I work as a maintenance man and came across this lock to be rekeyed, I can rekey many but this I needed to send out, only one out of 6 locksmiths could rekey it, so it must be very friggin tough!
I've been planning it for a while... just took some time for all the locks to arrive. And yes, those little yale style keyways can be a beast (depending on the bitting).
Thanks... as for the Abus Granit, I think there are a few people who have picked them. I am not one of those people. On a related note, I don't think there is a such thing as an unpickable lock... there are only locks that have not been picked yet. Through history, there have been many, many "unpickable locks" ... until they were picked. :-)
Yessir. Was a bit bummed out but apparently the guy bought them off a locksmith. Live and learn I guess. One thing that you might want to look at is if the top of the core has a chamfer or not. The PacLocks I have all have chamfers, which gives in a sense a larger shear line.
+lockpickinglawyer I've been searching for weeks, trying to find a colored federal, Matlock, and Lockwood like you have. Any tips on where to find? I'm jealous of your 40mm collection.
Incredibly relevant to my stage of picking! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Thanks -- hope you like the videos.
Hey :) this a very old comment but I'm curious if you're still around picking.
I'm at this stage. Just started in Feb 2023
@@minmatenx yep, still picking (just not filming)
@@user54389 hey that's great to hear :)
Have a great day buddy

I'm really looking forward to this series . Thank you in advance .
:-)
Always love that little bit extra you devote to your vids. Another superb vid. Keep the goodness coming bud.
Thanks... this series should be good. Preview: the Chinese lock will not be coming in last!

Gotta love all those colors

Hi Potti, could you please mail me which store and brand? Thank you :).
I'm sure this will be another great series to watch👍👍
I am surprised at the Chinese padlock being "well made" for a change.🤔😯
Thanks for sharing 😘😘👍
Thanks... and the Chinese lock wasn't bad at all.
Looking forward to the rest of the series. Great job picking brother!

Most of these locks are near identical... the variations that we are looking at are really quite minor in overall design.
I know ;). I just thought, well, perhaps it's made in the same factory as one of the models, just without branding. That's a common practice I know from food.
I like the series already.
:-) Thanks.
nice picking can't wait to see them all
Thanks.
Awesome! I've almost got round to finishing filming a similar series. Can't wait to see yours :-)
Thanks... I'm anxious to see your take on this as well. Anything you think I missed (either locks, or points to address)? After more reflection, I think that I am going to subtract a few points for bypasses.

I'm not experienced or confident enough to put on video yet. Hopefully in near future 👍
Oh... I figured I just hadn't come across them yet. You should make the leap. If you want some confidence, look at some of my early stuff.
skittles pick the rainbow :p nice locks
LOL... :-)
lol Maybe master lock should take some tips from whomever made that lock...
LOL...
It would be good if the price was known as points could be added or taken away there. That Chinese lock was a surprise.
I wish I could give you a price comparison, but it's really difficult. Definitely. And it's not a bad lock at all. Given the low security of the rest of the lock, the core is more than adequate.
Yeah, with those safety lockout locks the key thing is the number of differs and the tolerances of the core. They don't want two guys with nominally different keys opening each others locks by accident.

Pretty stoked for this series :)
The little yale style keyway on the Abus 72/40 is a meanie
I've been planning it for a while... just took some time for all the locks to arrive. And yes, those little yale style keyways can be a beast (depending on the bitting).
Try picking a lock with paper clips
1:22 That's why the metric system exists 😁
I am new to this hobby, can you recommend anywhere to pick up used or inexpensive locks
Do you think Abus granit padlock, is unpickable? Thanks for the videos, interesting!!
Thanks... as for the Abus Granit, I think there are a few people who have picked them. I am not one of those people. On a related note, I don't think there is a such thing as an unpickable lock... there are only locks that have not been picked yet. Thank you once again for your videos
So on that PACLock 90A... did yous come with any security pins? I just got 5 off of ebay and they all had no security pins and were all master wafered
$26? I saw that one. No idea about security pins... didn't pick it yet.
Yessir. Was a bit bummed out but apparently the guy bought them off a locksmith. Live and learn I guess.

Federal and Matlock - look in the UK. Lockwood - look in Australia. They were sent to me by people in those countries.
with this dude in your neighborhood it´s better to use digital or keycard locks
Do you know where to get this chinese lock?
is this lock bypassable?
