I actually have a this exact kit, and used the clear lock to learn the basics of how to rake. Two years later I had a tenant rekey every door in his rental and then split without giving me the new keys... picked every single one with this kit. Took me about an hour total but I learned enough to get it done in the real world!
Actually a cool story
Nice work!
mine broke in the lock
@@trevorwilliams1783 with a jigsaw blade you can retrieve the broken parts.
I got that kit too and learnt the basics with it.
One day at work some keys to some kind of lockers, where we stored a lot of important tools, got lost, and the next day i brought this kit with me.
It took me some time, but i managed to open all 16 of them.
Some apprentice thought of me as a criminal after 😂
Impressed that “12 piece” actually meant 12 picks, instead of 9 picks plus a case plus a package plus a cardboard shipping box.
I saw one on Amazon listed as 27-piece that counted the 2-3 locks as well as the 2 keys per lock
Turns to a 17 with wrenches and lock at least to me
1 pick, and its got 11 screws down the handle
It said 19 piec for me, 2 keys 12 pickd 1 case 1 lock 3 tension tools
9 picks plus 3 tension tools
You picked that lock like you were annoyed of it’s weak existence 😂
yeah it is a beginner lock. I an complete novice picked it in 5 minutes looking at it and blindly in an hour. after training a bit with it I can do it in a minute blindly
Those practice locks are ridiculously simple to open. I had never picked a lock before and I ordered a kit like this which didn't even come with the picks due to some shipping mishap so I only received the lock. So I took a couple of hairpins and bent them into a pick and tension wrench and I had the lock open in less than 30 seconds randomly hitting the pins until they clicked

I watched it back and i can see it now totally.
reviews expensive locks „they are trash and so easy to unlock“
reviews cheap tools „its ok because I still can unlock expensive locks with it“
Well when you pay $300 for a lock you expect it to be pretty good. The set was $16 cant except much.
To be fair i can see why since if you use expensive locks you probably have something that you wanted to protect

Im interested in buying some picks from Southern Specialties. They have singles for sell. Also theres a set from them endorsed by Toool that looks ok. Im going to buy this set from Bangood though. This was a good review.
I kind of favor the cheap, startup set. That way, when one finally breaks, you know which you use the most and can spend more on replacing it with something better. The ones you end up with undamaged are obviously not as useful.
I was always taught to by cheap, and if you use it enough to break, then buy the expensive one. No use buying an expensive tool you only use once
This is awesome advice lol
This is exactly what I did with my 3/4 inch socket set

Alex Chulzhanov comments like this are why the comments section can be pure gold sometimes. I laughed loud enough to get the “look” from my wife. 😂
I am a Facility Manager at a 50,000 sq ft day shelter for the homeless in my local community. We have lots of locks and my predecessors didn't leave me much of a discernible system of tracking which doors use which keys or pad lock combination charts. I've been flying by the seat of my pants for some time now. This job is specifically how I found your channel. I've watched several of your videos and found you to be a very valuable resource. I have my own key cutter up and running now, I have a cheap stamping kit to label keys with, and I just received my first lock pick kit. It isn't the one you review in this video but it is similar. I've fumbled around with the practice locks for about a week but yesterday I had the need to use my newly obtained tools and freshman skills. It felt pretty cool being able to open a door without the key. Thank you for all the tutorials.
This guy doesn't even have ads in his videos. And that's amazing
Is he able to monetize at all then? I’m guessing not right?
This video IS an an ad. He has a few more with Banggood and even said that you could get a discount with his coupon.
That would be a crime, kinda hard to get ad revenue off of B&E
I thoroughly appreciate your integrity, honesty and fair (painfully so, in some cases) review process! The fact that you refuse to shill for any particular product line, manufacturer, lock brand, or *gasp* your own profitable "line" of logo-inscribed picking tools, etc., only increases the value of your channel content, imho, as it allows each review & lock picking challenge to stand on its own right--unchallengable by your industry counterparts or lock "brands" who don't appreciate your educational & highly illustrative methodology. Well done, as usual, sir. Thanks
Just bought them, thank you for the reference, and for the sandpapering tip.
* Please consider giving us newbies a summary showing what each pick is good for and it's proper use. Cheers.
Where did you buy off banggood?

Lockpicking Lawyer has legitimately the funniest and least hostile comment section on YT. I actually enjoy it.
It's the best community. I always laugh a lot. Such much genius in the funny comments here.
This is is that you?
Right? This is my feel good space, to get away from the politics and hostility on seemingly every other channel I watch
If the lock manufacturers don't want shade they should make better locks. It's like LPL mentioned about the Master Lock paradox -- good 6-pin locking mechanism, crappy plastic outside VS mediocre 4/5-pin locking mechanism, super expensive exterior and hardened steel shackle.
Cheese
Heck, there was one of these in a spy shop as a demo and I picked it in 2 seconds flat with no prior experience
I had never picked a lock before in my life, used a set like this that a friend had gotten, picked the lock in a matter of seconds without looking at it at all after I had the tension bar in place (until it was picked). Those locks are absolutely trivial to pick, and being transparent isn't the reason at all.
It's designed to be super easy. Every pin is smooth, no spools or cerrated pins, and it's designed to set pin 1 first, pin 2 second, etc.
@@MegaJoblogs I have a similar one, you can often open it just by tensioning it and sticking the pick in the keyway.
@@jasonmhite They're hilariously bad locks no doubt. On mine, you can literally just jam a pick right into the back and push open the latch holding down the shackle. No tension or picking required.
Never owned a set until I started watching your videos and subscribed . I ordered the set before seeing this review and surprised you gave it a thumbs up . I feel better about it and it’s on its way . As a machinist I have some round and square surface stones I will use to smooth out the edges .
At 70 I have a new hobby . 😁
Rock on brother 🤟🏻
I would listen to this guy all the day
I did... I never knew lockpicking was a hobby. But after watching tons of this guys videos I learned how locks work and can't wait to start picking myself
Higor Guedes had to vote this one down. Lame AF.
great voice , he should read fiction audio books .......and the history guy could read factual books
Abit slow for my taste
He is sick with a cold in this video, watch some others, great content👌🏼
HA, I actually bought this set as my very first pick set. Ive had a fascination for lock picking for a while but watching you really pushed me into buying a set for myself. I fumble more than I actually pick, i cant exactly say that i can feel the pins, just go over them while applying pressure until it snaps open. Thanks for being that inspiration to finally getting me started.
I bought that exact set when I started minus the lock. They are GREAT. I still use the city rake and standard hook even though I use mostly Peterson tools now a few years later. They held up, they take a polish great, the material is solid, the feel is great... I have zero complaints. Any beginners who are thinking of getting into it, GET THIS SET.
Thanks for your input. It's good to hear from someone who has been using this for more than a couple days (like me).
Ive had these a while and they are pretty nice for like $4
The FNG!
I literally have this same set and it is scary good. I watched a few videos and practiced with the clear locks for several hours and by the end of the day I was literally able to pick open the front door to my house lol.
I wanna get into lock picking with the intention of moving up to auto theft, house breaking and finally white collar crime if I'm sufficiently talented.
Roger Onslow Yes officer, this post right here.
yep
Well, it's inspiring to find someone willing to master the basics first!
-During that progression is where you then require 'The Lawyer' :)
At the very least, you have goals and a plan to arrive at them.
Best of luck!
Just got this after ordering it a while ago, and one thing I would add: When you buy this, buy some sports tape or electrical tape or something for the handles. The metal digs into your hand in a slightly painful way, and it makes using these picks for extended periods uncomfortable.
Also, the version of this that is sold by Banggood at the moment has had some changes. The tension wrenches included are less springy so they're actually usable.. but not on this lock.
I purchased a couple of cheap locks for a buck a piece off eBay when I bought this, and while they work fine for opening those, the tension wrenches are too thin for me to tension the keyway on the practice lock. That might just be bad technique on my part, but I couldn't find a way to do it with either top or bottom of the keyway tension. So you should probably pick up a tension wrench set as well, preferably with a TOK tension wrench of some kind in it!
i just got this as my first pick set. im trying to pick everything in sight lol
Congrats on your first set, and good luck!
@acabobie Yeah, me too. Still haven't picked them all, 40 years later!
@acabobie
Man, you were picking before it was cool.
@acabobie I started with your nose too!!

Hi. Came across your video and then couldn't help but watch a bunch more. The need to get my own stuff unlocked when keys have been lost, etc. has happened a few times so this fascinated me. Then you showed the kit video & had to get one. Prior to arriving my portable gun safe in my truck quit beeping as I tried to open it at the range...your spoon trick worked, sort of, except I only had a small pry tool. It's on its way back to Amazon too. So the kit arrives and thanks to your videos I opened the clear lock in about 30 seconds, my bike rope lock in 1.5 minutes and the clear lock again in less 15 seconds. My son didn't watch the videos but I explained it to him since he was fascinated, so he tried for a bit more than 2 minutes on the clear lock until he got it. This is just something cool to learn especially when it works. Thank you very much.
"Price point is the key here..."
Was that an intentional pun?
I don't think our guy uses keys. I doubt he even knows what one is.
He locks them to the lock to not lose them
Maybe a day he will figure out what they are for
What made you PICK up on that
Thank you. I've had this kit for two years. After days of practice I never once opened that training lock. After watching you demonstrate I picked it open in less than 1 minute. It has inspired me to get back to working with locks. Now maybe I can finally open the trunk to the project car I bought two years ago as well (the reason I purchased this kit in the first place).
Did you open the trunk?
@@ukrainium_92 we need to know
His friend that was trapped in the trunk is probably long dead by now.
a year and a half later you asked 😂
@@ukrainium_92 I never did get that trunk open. Sold the car with the trunk still locked, never finding out who, errr, I mean, what, was inside.
The pause after he picks the lock then clears his throat... I could hear the boredom in silence lol

“Okay”
Just got my order of this in today. So I'm going through the lock and saying in my head "Nothing on one... small click out of six, back to the beginning", and then that feeling of elation when the cylinder turns. You've brought me joy!
I ended up purchasing this 12 piece set, as well as some extra torque wrenches, as well as the lock itself. The kit is actually not bad at all For the price. It does work and it will open most stuff. The quality isn’t 10/10 but it’s at least 6/10 and it will probably last a good number of picks before it starts to get weak. Would recommend, had it about a year now.
I have a locking gun display case that I couldn't find the key for and saw a few of your videos so I decided to by a pick set and bought this very set from Amazon. I spent about an hour picking the transparent lock that came with it, first watching the pins as I manipulated them and then holding the lock so I couldn't see what I was doing and going by feel alone. The next morning I went to the gun rack and had it open in about 5 minutes. I bought a new lock at the same time I ordered the pick set and swapped it out. As you said in the video, this was an inexpensive set and I really only figured I would pick this one lock and be done. But now I'm hooked, in fact I was looking to pick up a better set of tensioning bars before I came across this video. After watching your video on how you practice I'm going to gather up every lock I can find around here and develop a skill. Keep making these videos as I find them very informative. Thank you.
My son has been genuinely interested I becoming a locksmith for many years. I got a set of 10 different types acrylic locks, but without any picks. I found getting picks separately from the acrylic locks had a marked improvement of both quality and variety.
Also, the snowman has been my favorite for a couple of years, now. I'm not sure why, but it just seems to rake faster.
maybe the snowman's circular shapes help smooth out the motions?
I bought a pick set because of this channel and by PURE coincidence I selected this exact set except i paid $5 for it on ebay. I had to use a file to smooth mine because the edges were serrated. Pretty awesome!
I'm an absolute beginner and bought this set for learning. The good: I was able to pick my very first door lock with it, but to do that easily I had reduce a bit the small diamond pick. The bad: the picks are not as sturdy, I broke the tip of two, my mishandling for sure but is not that I subjected them to any significant force. Also, the transparent locks, as someone mentioned, may be good to learn how things work in principle, but are so loose that they give a very poor and different feedback from a standard lock.
Just bought this set as my first pick set based on this review. You're right about them being rough. They're almost serrated.
Picked the demo lock quickly, then moved on to a Master No. 7, which I bought today as my first lock. I was getting discouraged until I spent about 5 minutes with 400 grit on one of the single pin hooks. Now the No. 7 pops open almost as soon as the tool is inserted!
Did you buy off banggood?
"We need picking in every video" I was getting worried because I thought there wasn't going to be any :P
Daniel P Well, some of his other videos contain no picking.
@@johnfrancisdoe1563 Depends on if you consider Ramset, "picking".
Yes.
Here i am after 2 years and after watching your video for years I've finally broke down and bought this kit and decided to give it a shot. My niece locked her keys in her car tonight and the only person in my area that does this wanted to charge 75 dollars to do it.... I can get a replacement window at the junkyard cheaper. We ended up breaking her door handle to get into her car and I feel like if I hadve took up this hobby years ago I could've prevented it. I think I'm gonna practice and maybe start a small lockpicking business to help prevent other people from dealing with this head ache. Thanks for the inspiration. I actually remembered watching this video years ago lol

Also, Interesting use of the y wrench! I use a y wrench to tension those smiley dimple keyways as you are able to apply torque while keeping the pins clear for picking
I never thought to use one that way -- thanks for the tip.
Picking 100 locks for a review, that's real dedication to your fans! Think it's a great entry point for people interested with no prior experience, they can upgrade to better picks later if they want.

I absolutely loved the review. These reviews of equipment , especially the inexpensive starter kits are the push sometimes needed for beginners. I myself being one of those beginners, I recently purchased a similar set but with three clear locks for twenty euro €21.50 to be exact. And with the wisdom I've learned from all the videos yourself and bill have graced us with am ready to take the plunge. Again thanks for all the knowledge and keep up the fantastic work..
Based on this video, I went and bought this set. I've since picked several locks with them, from cheap Chinese locks Stanleys, Yale and Abus.
I also gave the lockpicking bug to my brother in law. Absolutely worth the price.
Now after a year of picking, I'm ready to consider investing in "the pick that Bosnianbill and LPL made".
great review.
seems like a good beginner kit.
I've always referred acrylic locks as demonstration locks...

What is the difference?
I only heard it referred to as a "learning tool". which quite fits what it is.
@@jacobnussbaum2309 i believe that it's because "practice" must be somehow challenging at the very least, which is not the case at all for these kinds of locks

I got this kit off ebay about a week ago and am only now starting. Opened the acrylic lock about a dozen times now while looking, but I think the best use of the see thru one is to see what pin I'm on in the keyway, cos I'm so beginner I can't feel when i'm on the next one or not yet. Either way this is great for me :) I bought it after watching this video btw and wanted to come back and thank you.
Nice to see someone not hating on cheap beginners picks, you have to (as you did) take them in context - I'm quite fond of the Secure Pro pick set for £5 after all, picking is much more than how much you spend on your kit. Nice review :-) have you looked at the Honest Dong Shi dimple set from these guys?
Thanks, and I have not ever held the HDS dimple picks, but I did see your review. :-)

I have been aware of a lot of products on Banggood but I wondered why reviews within the lock picking community had not picked up on tools like these. Then I asked a question sometime ago on a forum and was told to Google Banggood reviews. I did and even though it was obvious why I still placed an order and found out very quickly if you have a problem too bad as stated in many reviews. It seems low cost items become expensive if you have a problem. I am in the UK though and PayPal buyer protection does work if you are prepared to pay return postage and its not cheap to post back internationally from the UK.
In my own opinion I appreciate the videos I would have never got started in this sport if it was not for LockPickingLawyer and another great chap on you tube from Canada I think but endorsements can always be tricky, especially when its Banggood your promoting.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I can't speak to BG's business practices and customer service... I can say that I've never had issues with them in the few orders I placed with them in the past, but you never really know about customer service until something goes wrong, and thankfully I've not had any issues.
"I think but endorsements can always be tricky." That's an understatement. This video should only be seen as a discussion of my personal experiences and opinions on the product.
"probably like a hundred locks in the review process"
Oh, they only paid you for 30 minutes huh?
This comment is under appreciated
Makes sense!
Yea like 3 locks per min
I read this comment right as he said it
I have absolutely no use for this but man you make me want to buy one.
I absolutely love your video's.
Thank you very much for all your work.
IKR...I want to get one but I'm worried that I'll be put on someone's watch list...Lol
Everyone should get this. They can't watch everyone.
I had this set. It worked well enough for a beginner learning the basics. I got it for $15....it rather, the person who got it for me paid $15.
The double peak is really effective.
btw, the same kit (by 'daniu') only got better, it seems they took LPL's advice on board and they now have really nice polished stainless steel tension wrenches - they have a bit of a burr on the ends, I recommend gently licking them with a file to smooth them up. The brass of the lock is quite soft, and given how thick the slot is compared to the tension wrench, the bottom bit got a little chewed up with use, I recommend using the normal tension tool on the top of the key instead, it doesn't seem like the new y-tensioner works for that anymore. The tolerances on the pins in the lock are pretty bad and they're all rounded which isn't great, but i guess it hones control. Just go slow and keep the tension light.
Only complaint is that the arms of the picks are pretty sharp on my fingers, but I never sanded them like LPL suggested. I've had great success using the set on all of the locks in my house and hope to continue growing my skill for much longer.
I got this set and their whole set of practice locks today (bought it on my own, did not see this video earlier). I was able to pick the one in the video with absolutely no prior experience in about 30 seconds. In about an hour or so picking all their practice pin locks, I was able to pick my own dead bolts in a few minutes, while loosing any sense of security from standard door locks. For some reason these have serrations like a file. I too took them off prior to using them since that will tear up the brass inside the lock. Also the rivets need to be hammered down more to secure them, but they work.
I wish this was a class in highschool lol.
There would be a few problems with that. The school would have to pick-proof their locks.
It's a great gift for nieces & nephews

Ikr? It would be so great if every teenager was able to pick locks. What could go wrong?
Oh no...
I bought this set, they break off super easy. Not happy with it at all. But it did teach me the basics and made me feel better about buying my higher quality picks. This channel is awesome. I can pick nearly every lock out there.
Did you buy off banggood?
When I was a kid I picked a masterlock with two thin Bobby pins that girls wear in their hair ,it took me almost 20 mins I had no clue what I was doing, this was before phones and UA-cam and I heard a click and then it just opened up,I was amazed
I received this set as a gift. I'm a newbie to lockpicking, but as a beginner I have to say this is a pretty accurate review. The picks themselves are pretty good, the acrylic lock was neat to mess with and the tension bars do kinda suck. The Z-bar fit most of the locks I was practicing with though and worked well enough. I haven't tried using the Y-bar but now I'm going to give it a shot the way he was using it.

I'm sure that it's more than that.

Don't you know how he started lock picking, it began when he was a child picking his nose and over the years graduated to locks. (I am such a bitch ain't I.)
I've bought 4 pick sets within a month, and I've chosen the best picks out of all of them, now i have all the good ones in a single case
Soft picks probably aren't an issue with tempering. It more likely that they're a mild steel like 1018 instead of a medium to high carbon steel like 1045 or 1095. You can't really harden 1018.
Those tweezer-style tensioners work really well with one prong top & bottom, since they leave the entire keyway open for picking, and the spring-action holds them in place nicely.
i have a very similar set of picks, and the price per pick was just over 1$ per pick and it was also a 12 pick set.
i am very happy with the set and it works for me as a beginner and i have opened less than 10 locks, one with safety pins in it but i can't do it quickly yet. the lock on my garage has 3 barrel pins and it took me over half an hour to open, but i got it open which i am really proud about
@john Smith best comment I've seen.@ LockPickingLawyer I've been watching your videos for a long time now. i just let them play in the background on 1 screen while i do things on my other screen while using my computer. Although i had not taken a stance to start lock picking myself. Until now that is. i just ordered the kit from banggood and with the transparent lock in hand and some guidance from your videos, now this actually seems like a skill i may be able to pick up. your videos are always interesting, and what you do is definitely an art form. i just wanted to say that now as i watch your videos it will most likely be with a lock in hand trying to learn something, instead of idling listening to you as you work. ( 1 is set, 2 is binding, little click out of him, counter-rotation on 3....)
This was my first lockpick set and it's pretty good for a noob that wants to try their hand at picking without breaking the bank. I stepped up from this to Covert Instruments and have stuck with them since, also a very good bargain for someone on a budget!
Id love to see one of these clear locks used in conjunction one of the ultrasonic raker guns and get incredibly closeup video of it. That would be super awesome
i am orderinga lot from aliexpress...from smartphone parts to tabletts to pc parts....and i never was disappointed once...the parts and service were always on top!!
Back in the '90s I was doing some work for a friend that is a locksmith. He taught me how to pick locks. My wife and I got into a tiff and she threw me out of the house and had the locks changed. The next day while she was at work I came home and easily picked the new lock and let myself back into the house. It was funny.
I bought this and another cheap set for my first time a while back, worked great for teaching me broke one of them however I was forcing it a bit harder than I should have and snapped it.
If you're really into it buy a good set or some single ones, if you just want to get a hang of it grab one of these sets. I was able to open $100 masterlock after just a few minutes of playing around.
House lock took a little longer but got the deadbolt open without a lot of work. Makes you really know how secure your house can be or not be.
Another note you can remove the side of the lock, and change up the order just watch out it's under pressure :D

Nice. I actually bought this set to start out with, I already have done some practicing with them and I've been happy with how well they hold up. The tip about the sanding is very good to know though. And I am already planning to buy a little set of proper tension wrenches, I've been using the fat one but that trick with the black one with the 2 ends looked like it will be even better until I get those new tension wrenches.
Cheers! Now all I need to do is start collecting locks and telling everyone I know that any time they have old locks they won't use anymore, that I could put them to good use for practice and would love to have any old lock, if they were planning to get rid of it anyway.
I timed this all wrong. I've recently bought this set and currently waiting for it to arrive. I was sceptical when I paid for the set thinking "oh no another cheap set... I'm an idiot" but thanks to you I'm feeling a little more positive. Hopefully the goodies will be here by the weekend! Thanks for a great review.
LOL... that's how it always happens. Good luck with these picks, and let us know how you like them after you've had a chance to give them a test drive.
I got one from my friend after cursing a cheapass padlock I had to remove by force from kid's swing in park. Next day I took the sawed off lock to my home, sat down and with 0 experience (I don't consider watching this channel every now and then much of an experience). It took me 5 minutes to open that damn lock, can't really say anything else than at least I can open all of my cheap crappy locks with this set, and cheap locks really are crappy if I can open them "first try".
I love these videos and I think I got hooked to lockpicking..now I carry this set with me all the time, because you never know. I need more locks though.
I made a set of picks about 20 years ago from stuff called fish tape, for pulling wire through conduit. They've always worked good for me
"Well", they worked "well" for you.
@@lordkrythic6246 "a'ight", they worked "a'ight" for him.

I bet you vote Democrat, with that sort of education, or lack thereof.
@@lordkrythic6246 I remain baffled by people's claims to offer deep insights into my life based on a single sentence. Particularly the confidence they project when they make these declarations.
I have enough of an education to recognize your grammar correction for what it is: elitist self-congratulation that relies on clinging to obsolete usage. You may as well smugly inform people that a AA is a cell, not a battery. It is a similar form of pedantry that ignores the fact that language changes with time, sometimes in drastic ways.
And my politics are both complex and none of your business.

Just picked my first two locks with tools I made myself. ;) (wrench and hook) it was two padlocks on an old suitcase that I don’t have the keys for. Necessity made me do it! ;)
Seems like a fun hobby.
I bought this set on your recommendation, it works out good, though there is one notable change. The tension wrenches I received were not the same black steel as the Y wrench and pick heads.
They are now a significantly less flexible, harder chromed steel and while I havent found the Zbar all that useful in smaller keysways, I have been much more successful with the longer one.
Altogether I'm very happy with this set. Thanks for the objective recommendation! It often dissuades me from trying out new hobbies when according to the experts anything less than expensive is total junk and a waste of time. Thanks again, love your channel man! 🙂
Thanks for the review, i followed your channel and when i see the lpl giving a good review on a cheap pick set, i know i have to buy this as my first set.
The plastic lock gave me an easy win and so i start picking all the pin lock in my house. Unfotunately, i raked all of them in under 30 sec at first try. I was suprised at how terrible the security in my house is. Thanks for showing me the flaws in our security system.
About the pick set, this is pretty good for a cheap set, giving me a chance to open a lot of low security lock. The material was good but i ended up breaking one of the rake due to my lack of experience. The worst part is the tension tool. As i use rake for most of the time, i use the big one and it just happen to be a little bit too big, i ended up oversetting a lot of the time.
In conclusion, this is a good beginer set, keep you interested in the art without leaving a huge dent in your wallet. But if you but this set, i highly recomend buying a tension wrench set as the one that came with it was pretty bad. Might be a set that the lpl reviewed in his channel.
Did you buy it?
@@paidref7137 yes, still works till now. Thw tension tool are bad but the pick are great
Excellently timed throat clearing. "Is it adequate?" (clears throat, No)
Just bought on ebay for £9.48 from Hong Kong. Had zero interest in lock picking until watching your weirdly therapeutic videos, now I'm a bit obsessed!
Bought the same on Amazon it was great practice until I broke a few picks due to having ham hands then moved on to a more expensive set and started using real locks which I purchased or was given... Anyway lock picking is one of my favorite types of puzzle.
I got one of these at the start of lockdown because the advice was "learn a skill when in isolation." I never got that good or that fast but it is a fun "puzzle"
You can heat shrink tube wrap the handles to get a better grip on the smooth metal
This one worked for me.
You're the literal poster boy of evil, but you give good lockpicking advice.
I did it! I picked it,i was trying to lift the pins to high not realizing they just need to up a little. Yes!! My first pick!
Delighted you gave a good review. I bought this and have been using it for a short time (first set) and I’ve found it great
I got a set of these off ebay (before I saw this review). The transparent padlock was invaluable as my first ever picking effort. I too found I needed to sand the edges of the pick since it has a micro-sawtooth (lasercut?) profile which resisted sliding past the pins. Then I made my own tension wrench from a suitable bit of steel in my scrap bin which just happened to be off a wiper blade - just as LPL suggests! Then I made a couple of my own picks with a profile similar to the third-from-right above, by shaping the ends of old hacksaw blades with my bench grinder, and they're what I usually use now. Okay, I get a minor kick out of using my 'own' tools.
So it is possible to make-your-own (if you have a few workshop tools) for zero cost, but these (Banggood) ones are good value for any beginner. The Y-shaped tension wrench is uniqely suited to old car locks which have a sliding cover over the keyway.
wow I'm either an idiot or a genius. I've been using the Y bar to open warded no 22 masterlocks thinking it was a special tool for that and it works horrifyingly well. I can pop one open in just longer than it takes to use the key if I hit the sweet spot. I had no idea it was a tension tool.
You're an idiot. Never assume yourself a genuis those don't exist anymore and anyone who thinks they do are an idiot. Have a nice day
If it sounds stupid but it works, it’s not stupid.
@@Fluffisnoterm I disagree. Sometimes you are just an idiot who got lucky 😂😂
@@ingers.4653 He clearly said he wasn't a genius! Based on what he wrote vs what you wrote, you're the most intellectually challenged of the two! 😁
I have more or less the same set from Amazon. I've gotten to use it a handful of times in the last year for clients who lost keys to file cabinets, server racks, etc. Very fun to pull it off.
Can you make a how-to video for those home made windshield wiper tensioner 's? Thanks.

I'm a Facilities Manager and I've been using this same set for the past 3 years. I'll picked 75-100 Locks in that time and my average time is 30 seconds or so for Schlage 5 & 6 pin, Abus, Sargent and some Quikset. The Tension Tools aren't the greatest, but they haven't given up yet. I do need to bend them back to shape after the more difficult locks. The Windshield Wiper hack seems like a great idea, but haven't tried it yet.
This lockpicking set looks like it is something I would throw into a "bug out" survival bag.
It doesn't look like it would stand up very well to a daily usage type situation. But when you said the price point..I was like damn
You can get this exact same kit from any number of chinese sources. Its the best kit I have used. I had a southord kit for a while but for the price? My kit is currently full of this stuff now. I buy them in pairs. With a windshield wiper insert wrench and some ali express top of the keyway wrenches, Im unstoppable. I love how sharp the hooks are, they work great for those tiny little locks and big ones alike, but like you said, sand or file em down. Love these cheap chinese sets, you can find them for as little as $7 online. As for the pick material, pretty sure its spring steel.
Edit: Im pretty sure the springy Y thing is for holding open automotive locks that have the little door that keeps rain out.
What types of locks can these tools pick? I knoe dimple locks but can they pick 3 or 4 number combination locks?
„I am THE lockpickinglawyer and I don’t have a house. I just walk around when i‘m tired and pick the lock of the next house which looks free!“
I agree with you review I bought this set after watching your videos for a while but never seeing this video. the only pic that broke on me was my full city rake and a year later I'm still using all of them. Got mine for $14 total. Only thing I needed to do is I made my own tension wrenches out of wiper inserts.
Perfect gift for my son.
Haha hope he doesnt start picking the whole house :p
@@theepicpeguin probably will. I bought this set a few months ago and am now able to quickly pick every lock in and out of the house
Just bought this same set. I'm a beginner and am loving learning a new skill.
The 2 problems i had with this set is that the handle edges were as sharp as the pick edges, and although they maintained shape, when they got fatigued they would just snap with little pressure.
Thanks for your experiences with these picks. It seems like they improved the handle quality since then, because this one wasn't that bad at all. As for long term durability, I really can't speak to that.
Put some heat shrink tubing over the handle.
Awesome to see this review! I bought this set a few years ago, the “practice lock” is SO easy to open. I only pick locks as a hobby
Just a hobby eh? I guess I only shoplift as a hobby too.
@@JordanTheMann not everyone is a criminal like you... I have NEVER opened a lock without the owner being there, so ya... "as a hobby"
You do it when the owners right there? Seems like an unnecessary risk to me. What do you do when they catch you?
I once used this exact set to open my roommate's room when she locked her keys in. Can confirm they work as intended.
i can absolutely recommend this set! i got it because of this video, it arrived today, and without any prior experience i'm already picking a lock (Master 9130EURD) consistently in around 10 seconds after playing around with it for only like half an hour! the transparent practice lock that came with it seems to be broken a bit (top of the keyway is cracked wide open, can't get tension on it) but the picks work great! at that price, definitely a perfect product for beginners!
How long was shipping?

You picked a real lock quicker than I pick a "novice" one in Skyrim.
I made my entire pick set from 2 old wiper blades (from my truck), a dremel, and about 2 hours of work. I've had my homemade set for about 2 years and have probably used it successfully about 30 times.
Wait so you’re telling me that any random guy can get into my house with $16 and a bit of practice
You have awoken from your false sense of security slumber.
That is correct although from experience as a window fitter/glazer theives often prefer a window they are much easier to break
$16? What world do you live in? Anybody that wants to enter your house without your permission only needs a rock or a stick. I wish the [edited] that broke into my house had been courteous enough to pick the lock instead of kicking the door in.
@@jssamp4442 If you have anti-theft insurance the guy breaking your window can be preferable because then the insurance can't claim that you left your door unlocked and refuse to pay.
Someone broke into a childhood friends house quite a while ago and stole some stuff. The fact that he broke in with a crowbar helped them to get a payout for at least some of it.
I'm glad you pointed out the sharp edges, I have a similar set which bites in as you are trying to slide it back and forth.
Nice review. Very surprising too. That price is what makes it. In locksport, I am a believer in you get what you pay for but these may be a good idea to put a few aside just in case you break a pick. I just can't afford to put stock in Petersons as backups. Those would be good to "get me by" until I could replace my main one. Thanks bud!
Thanks... someone else had mentioned something similar... they are cheap enough to get a few for the car, toolbox, office, etc. That said, you better buy some sandpaper at the same time because that's a lot of finishing!
Thanks for the video. I'd just like to say that high carbon steel can be (and often is) harder and more wear-resistant than stainless steel. Of course, both are very broad categories of different steel alloys so there are some stainless steel alloys that (when properly heat-treated) can be harder than a similarly heat treated piece of high carbon steel. The main benefit to stainless is that it is much more corrosion-resistant.
