I find that when I go about my normal day in a mindful way or meditative state, my mind has more attention to the task at hand and I am actually doing the tasks better because the required information will come to mind
The mindfulness book "30 Days to Discover Who I Am" by Harper Daniels is a good resource.
Meditation is just like going to the gym...
