They also sell spacers for the screws to build them out so you don’t have to fit of the wires. 👍

+Ed A yes I saw those too, these just seemed like they would be more stable with lateral pressure when plugging things in.

many spacers are NOT code. Beware.

I changed my old light switch to a more modern dimmer switch. The old one was buried behind thick plaster and tile. It was a mess. The electrical box was filled with the crumbled plaster. It was definitely not safe. Thanks for sharing this video. I'm confident enough to now take a look into all of my electrical boxes to make sure everything is up to code and safe.

Would this work if the cuts are too big as well? We installed drywall and our outlets are in too much and the cuts are off by a bit

I had 1/4" drywall put over the old cracked plaster walls and the contractor just left the switches uncovered. When I brought it up he said to just get plate screws that are a bit longer and screw in the plate until the switches come flush. That didn't work of course, the plate broke before the metal bent. Today I went to HD looking for extenders and they didn't have any 2 gang ones, and the singles didn't fit together like in the video. I ended up buying a metal box cover that protruded 1/4". I used it as a template to square off the hole by screwing it in on top of the drywall, scoring around it with a knife, and then cutting through the drywall. The cover fit perfectly inside the hole and now everything is flush.
It looked like the box was loose in the video. Shouldn't that be secured?

Save money on these contraptions, as well as on plastic spacers..!
Just take a 3 inch length of #14 wire and wrap it around a Phillips screw driver to make a "spring" spacer...cut it down to size and slip it over the screws...
    Been doing this since 1985...

Just a couple of suggestions: one- don’t hire these drywall guys again, they are hacks. Two - take a box knife and get read of the irregularities in the drywall. 3- if the cover plate is sitting proud, you can break off the Mickey Mouse ears to allow the receptacle to sit lower. This is happens often with old work boxes and a recess is built in the box for this purpose.
