Need liner/heat blanket for my Well McClain boiler from (they think) the 1950's or 60's that needs a new one? Can't find any info. on sizes at the stores and my tech company can't either. Also, the steam system it is hooked up to may need a new boiler (they say). I wonder if part of it is the techs say they've never seen/worked on these so a comfort level for them (at my expense!). I have 19 steam radiators on one zone. Not even sure how large a system or what (if any) I need to replace with. Hoping to reline interior and get a few more years out of the current furnace. Advice? Thank you so much. Retired now, limited budget, and any information will help tremendously.
Thank you, in process of cleaning my Weil McLain boiler, so clogged! But I haven't cleaned it in a while and been using the boiler for hot water as well so it's been running extra and in the summer time. My insulation isn't as bad as yours yet so I have time to find and order the kit, maybe will do it mid season and clean out the vents again when I do it. Thanx so much for this vid, wear a mask but I'm glad you didn't so I could understand your words better! Nice editing, the music goes well with it! OK, back to my cleaning project!
Mine is a All that is on the furnace is: 820 ft steam, 1460 ft. water, Boiler Size A-B-572 Series 1, 2.75 gph, no baffles. Where can I get the replacement liner?
Great video, my McLain 68 is 26 years old and never been done, just vacuumed for first time today and I might of broke small section in back , found your video late. Where can I get the insulation and foil around top of furnace access door, I have some blow by. Thanks great video will be buying this kit for sure!
Those electrodes need to be adjusted properly, can see they aren't right looking into the burner. Should use a beckett guage and shouldn't be too much further apart then a nickel
Think I could go a winter without a insulation chamber? Or parts of one? I can’t afford to replace it and just spent 2 days cleaning this damn thing. I know it’s to stop fire from touching the metal but i wouldn’t think it should corrode through in a years time.
Running your boiler without the insulation chamber is a huge no no. At best you'd likely end up replacing the whole boiler-very expensive. It's a safety hazard.
How much would be a fair price to have a professional do this ? I had a clean it recently that got got back to to me with a $1700 figure😮, I priced a chamber kit at $250.
They might double the price of the chamber kit but 25% extra is more reasonable. Add in their labor rate for an hour plus travel time and that should you give you a good estimate of that cost
About 5 years ago guy said $750. Subsequent years he never mentioned that I need it replaced. Not sure if I didn't need it or if he's hoping $$ furnace fails? Is 20 years now but not Maine so I think I only go through 700 gallons a year. Maybe that's a 12 year Maine equivalent. Sides seem to tipping, back I'll have to check more for holes.
Glad you enjoyed our video. Fire brick is made to hold the heat in whereas the material we used is made to protect metal from heat. The fire brick can withstand a higher temperature than metal. To answer your question, we would advise against it.
I have an energy kinetics and the burner head wall insulation is deteriorating. There's no way to replace it since all the plumbing is attached on that side. Can I use refractory cement to patch the voids?
How much would replacing a combustion chamber in an oil burner, the cost for the northeast? Ive gotten an estimate of $650 for a standard combustion chamber?
Check out mainelydiy.com/replace-furnace-chamber-liner/ for help help the chamber for your furnace. Cost for ours was under $120 - just the cost for the part as we did it ourselves
I have a service contract and only have to pay for the parts - just got it done and the company charged $400 - I know it's way overpriced and it only costs $100-$200 if bought separately but in the middle of winter, I just want it working properly
@@blackmangopit an oil maintenance guy tried to rip me off saying the kit alone is over $300 and labor is $200, the guy who he was training and was present co signed him. After they left I did some research online, low and behind the kit was only $100. I did the whole thing myself and saved $400. Winter or not, it really isn't hard to do at all and you don't have to remove the furnace door either.
It's not fiberglass, it's ceramic blanket. And it's a good question about questioning blanketing the floor. Why clean the floor? One does more damage vaccuming, sweeping which tears up the blanket. A moderate amount of soot and debris would provide insulation. I now have a Buderus with a swing tight fitting door, much easier to clean, there isn't insulation on the floor.
You should disable the burner by removing the power to the cad cell relay or remove the nozzle line from the assembly nothing like staring at the business end of the burner when someone accidentally turns the switch back on.
Be nice about it! A boiler heats water for hydronic baseboard or cast iron radiators, or boils water for steam radiators. A furnace heats air for forced air heat, generally thru ductwork.

@@MainelyDIYwhat type of mask do you use? And how long does that job take time wise?

Do you need to out the sodium silicate on the back fire wall or the sides of the blanket?
Great video. The only thing that was off is the rope seal it actually goes on a little grove on the door.
Great point!

My oil furnace fire chamber is only two-three years old and has some cracks in it. Can I wait a few more years before replacing it?
Replacing chamber now is the best option to avoid irreparable damage.
Think I could go a winter without a insulation chamber? Or parts of one?
I can’t afford to replace it and just spent 2 days cleaning this damn thing.

You have a different setup than I have. I would not recommend cement as it does not have the required flexibility and expansion.
Not to be a smart ass but refractor cement is used for repairing all sorts of boilers, woodstoves, and kilns, ect.
Hi mainely
How do I know my oil heat furnace combustion chamber model number ?
Your furnace should have a metal name plate tag on it with the manufacturers name and model number on it.
If it's a boiler look at the rating plate, and also count the section to help to figure it out
Good video nice job

Did you ever get yours done , I’m having trouble gett someone to do it
My bad I see you did it , I’m finding no one wants to do it, but try to sell me A new furnace
Interesting, how placing the combustion chjamber material only part of the back and not on the sides.. i guess that metal part can withstand the heat?
This is a dimensional product so it does include the sides.
The sides of the boiler interior are kept cool by the heat transfer to the water running through it. This is a dry base boiler so bottom is insulated.
i wouldn't cut the side of the chamber material. If you made it even on both sides, it would be nothing to cut
did you calibrate co2 with the draft air coming in so to control soot????
My furnace was already CO2 calibrated so this was not an issue for me. I do not have nor have I had soot problems.
I did my furnace, but I had the running main pipe in the way of the door. Had drain the water and push the pipe over. Could of been simpler🙄
Where can you purchase these liners?
Google ,boiler suppliers
reason for fiberglass blanket in a boiler firebox floor?

@@dannythebeerman I get very little debri on the blanket so I don't think that's the reason. Also, I remove the blanket when before cleaning.
