- Replacing a Peerless WB-3 oil fired boiler fire box using a Lynn Manufacturing 1071 replacement kit. New target wall, burner mounting plate insulation, base liner insulation blanket, and rope to seal burner mounting plate.

This was really helpful, I’ve got the exact same boiler and was told the firebox is almost through. . Now whether I have the balls to pull it off is another thing....... great job

@@idothings6605 funny thing is about 7 months ago I made a vid replacing my domestic water coil with a blank plate. Its posted under my account. I had to search around for info in drips and drabs. Very helpful video. Thanks for posting. It was very helpful for replacing the target wall, etc on a Peerless WBV-04 Furnace. Parts were from Lynn. Type 1071. Target wall needed a little shaving to fit but otherwise perfect kit.

A clean flue passages, flue and chimney base first. Rope goes on door. New nozzle with combustion tests a must.
Wear a high quality respirator and good safety glasses. Clean up with water to reduce dust getting in the air. Safety first.
Probably would be better to take the bottom bolts out first for the door so this way the top bolts will hold it and not put pressure on the bottom bolts when the top bolts are out
When I did mine I also took the opportunity to replace the fuel nozzle and regap the electrodes to specifications, but then, that's just me.
What material is the combustion chamber made of ?
Okay. I bought the kit that you used and I’m going to give it a go because I looked into the chamber through the viewing hole and the rear liner has a hole all the way through. Incredible. My only fear is doing the job without replacement studs just in case they snap off. Mine are very rusty. At 1:36 did you have one snap off? Do you recall if they are two sided studs with threads on both sides? I got the part number from an online manual, but I can’t find the part anywhere. Thanks!
None of my studs snapped and mine were also pretty rusty, I would recommend spraying them down with PB blaster before trying to loosen them if you're worried. Good Luck!
@@idothings6605 sorry to be such a pain in the a** and ask so many similar questions- I’m sure it will be clear after I do the repair. So let me get this part straight if you could verify..... the “studs” are threaded on both sides? So side one threads into the main body of the boiler and the other side has a nut that screws down to put pressure on the door? That’s what it seems like. So watching your video, it looks like some of the studs unscrewed from the body of the boiler (like the top left first one you removed), while others like the top right, the stud stayed in the boiler and just the nut came off. Is that all right? Promise. Last question. Just gonna buy an extra or two so I wanna make sure. Looks like 5/16-18 2 1/4”. Thanks again. Is all I said accurate?

How often do these firebox get replaced ? My boiler is 18yrs old and I was told it’s caving in? Don’t know much about boilers just bought my first house
It depends on lots of variables, but on average they should last at least 10 years.

If I decide to have a professional do it , what can I expect it to cost? And how long would it take?

This one is from the early 1990’s, so around 30 years old.

A little bit of knowledge is worse than none at all! 1 you have the blast pointed directly at you and the burner isn’t disabled, if someone accidentally turned on the switch you would have a few seconds of a bad time. When you removed the old combustion chamber you should have had a respirator on and the nozzle of the vac that was running hanging just above the opening where the chamber is ,to be catching as much as the dust you were making while removing the chamber.
considering thats a bolt door not a swing door. This unit is fairly old. Old enough that the chamber and door rope most likely has asbestos. Probably even the insulation around the boiler itself. Id being wearing a PAPR and full painters suit for this with strong air purification in a taped off room. 1990s boilers could still be old stock with asbestos. They have tests kits you can order online and have sent to a lab for 20$ with shipping. Cheap insurance
