The spinner detects a magnetic field which you won't have with a failed winding in the solenoid coil. Also there is a old TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) about those coils. They would develop a break in the winding that would intermittently show up when the coil got hot creating a burner failure / reset problem. Diagnostics was.......If you suspect the coil on a intermittent reset problem, replace it . Best of Luck.................
Lol. Steves not dumb, idk how he thought a compass would spin by electrical and not by a magnetic field. Lol. He knows he cant use it to test for voltage on wires, he must have had a brain fart. I get stuck on stupid sometimes myself.
@@Dan-f7bhe used it for detecting magnetic field. Before the solenoid replacement it did not spin. At 11:32 in the video you can clearly see it spin after he replaced the solenoid.

Steve, Great diagnostics on this burner. You are great businessman, giving great honest service, your reputation must proceed you. That’s why this customer called you. You usually ask the customer how they found out about you? Enjoy your videos very much also enjoy listening to your regional accent, I’m from the Midwest where there is no pronounced accent. Best regards
Steve that inductive spinner thingy is cool. It detects the 60hz AC magnetic field generated from the solenoid coil and is basically a very small electric induction motor. Another great job!
i hate oil as i pull started farrah fawcetts #2 fuel oil 2 stroke nuclear fusion reactor which fused helium into carbon fusion and barfed soot everywhere and surged a proton beam which produced an electromagnetic gamma ray pulse which over heated the boiler to our church dishwasher!

To check those coils or any coil on a solenoid let your aunt Probe on top of the coil and see if you get an A it only may be very little but you'll get leakage
Your a classical guy! makes me wish I had a cellar. I'd buy one of those Beckett's in a hot minute and oil tank etc.. I could work on it by NOW! haha j/k
Great job, Steve! As an aside; people in Texas are experiencing blistering hot weather--but they are being warned not to use the A/C`s and overload the power grid! And we have not even gone totally green yet and switched to all-E-cars. Get that solar and wind cranked-up boys! Save the planet!
The solar and wind power has nothing to do with the grid. The generating of power is not the issue. It is the transformers and other distribution components that are the problem.
Hey there Steve what is the name of the littler rotary indicator you use to test the solenoid called ? As i wonder if it would work on ac electric motors too
Hey Steve, A/C question. Do you run your A/C in "Auto" fan or "On" mode? I'm thinking air circulation around the house especially in a 2-story home where the 2nd floor is always warmer than 1st floor where the T-Stat is located. Especially at night when the A/C isn't running cause the outside temps are lower. Always learning from your videos from the multitude of service calls. Nothing beats on the job learning!
I’m just a cable and my aunt called about a tv issue so after dinner went to fix it but as I was going through her back area I se her evaporate sitting on top of her fan with two fillers on top of the radiators pulled them off and seen black is there something to clean that with don’t want her to breath that black mold she is elderly and says she has been doing that for 20yrs I said don’t think Steve would like that and would say that’s a shit show
steven i have a question, i see you go to the truck and get used parts and sell them as new , i saw two cases where you sold a used part written on slip as new..remember karma steve..i look up to you, but when saw this it hurt me see a man that cant speak English welkl the portuguese old man you try to buy the tractor from..so sad thats why people watch..to see what people do to you on hard times..karma my friend...

Agreed!! Well said!!
I thought the spinning signified the existence of a magnetic field which only exists in a good coil with power applied.
Awesome. Never seen that issue. Love these troubleshooting jobs.
MM power

the electromagnetic pulse heats a coiled Hotsey steam cleaner at 375 degF 4000 psi steam shooter washer and drives the motor!

If it's OL, That magnet may not spin because the magnet was completely fried

Wonder if the magnetism of the solenoid makes the tester spin
When replacing the primary is it plug and play or do you have to program it?
Anyone know if Steven has done a truck tour video? Thing looks new.
He has a few truck videos on the purchase, planning, building, and filling. That was hard work but they are fun videos to watch.
looks like we have the same one. my light keeps flashing by the red button and will not stay on. any idea why?
No magnetic field from the open coil.
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍
I love that saying from him!
A new customer not very far from home.
There is no replacement for the volt/ohm meter.

Bogarting customers are wrong. They probably got tired of calling this other company and it not working, even after they just had it serviced.
