As curly girls we know that washing, styling and drying our curls can be a day job and we all have our own methods and tips and tricks. In this video I wanted to give you a detailed as possible view of how it really goes. so no glamour, but weird poses, upside down hanging and funny faces, hope you liked it!
Note: I stopped using Devacurl since there has been a lot of controverse about the brand. I used to love the brand and it has giving me instant good results for years but noticed changes in my hair since I used new bottles. My texture changed, my curls became limp and less tight. Keep in mind this is just my honest experience. I’m not saying Devacurl is bad or you should not use it. I’m just disencouraged to use it after reading all your stories. That doesnt mean I will never use it again, just for now...
PS: The styling process only takes about 10 minutes, excluding the diffusing process of course, and I only wash my hair every 4 to 5 days, so this is NOT my daily routine

Angela Hodge having thick curly hair is exhausting!! I chopped mine off recently because I was spending 30 mins every time I washed it just detangling and styling it. If you want frizz free curls, you really have to work for it.

I shed fistfuls of hair. I only brush my hair once between washes and then my hair is up so I know that’s why I pull out so much. But I looked at what she pulled out and thought: aw, that’s cute
When our hair is curly, the natural daily fall gets hung up in there. That's why is looks so bad coming out all at once.

Wow, that's a lot of styling products! Your hair doesn't look particularly thick, so I'm surprised all that product doesn't weigh your hair down.

Curly hair will soak up the moisture, so it won't be heavy on your hair.

Toni Ann Calbo That’s normal if you’ve just transitioned. You HAVE to be patient, that’s just how it works. Straightening your hair will only make it worse. I transitioned in March and my curls are still really frizzy so you just have to be patient and find what works
Toni Ann Calbo Aw hun I’m so sorry to hear About your struggle. Too much product can weight your hair down, overmoisturized curls as well, so make sure to use enough protein. Try clarifying and or olaplex # 3, then deep condition, it truly does work, then try to use 1 good light weight lotion like product and smooth it in and down as she did, trust it will work and look very nice.
Toni Ann Calbo same girl but i only use about two products a day and i’m trying to find what’s best but nothing works by the time it dries everything that’s touching my neck dries up and bunches up 😐

This is super helpful! I'm an Asian (Chinese) person with curly hair (which is very rare in ethnicity alone) and I have no either how to maintain these curls. I barely learned the scrunching trick haha

All the people commenting that this is a lot of products, this is the cg method. Yes, it's a lot, Yes, it's normal, Yes, most CGM followers do this, and No, it doesn't get weighed down!! My hair is Waaayyyy curlier following this method vs my old ways.
If anything, she uses less product than most. It's normal for someone with her hair to apply 1-2 palmfuls of gel before crunching out excess moisture/product and plopping

3) What do you do on the days that you don't wash your hair to reactivate the curls?
4) How long does this process take in real time?
5) I don't like using heat on my hair. Would I achieve the same goal just air drying it?

I like to air dry too, you can plop for 10-30 minutes (whatever works for you) or try root clipping to get that volume while airdrying :) You'll want a decent amount of gel on your roots with this method so your volume lasts. once it's 100% dry (not sooner!) you can gently shake our your roots to break the cast!
Lacey English Thank you for your suggestion. I will try both methods to see what gives. I just don't want to damage my virgin hair that I've worked so hard for and/or invest in a fancy hairdryer.

I like how she smoothed it out first but the thing I’m struggling with is I have mixed hair pretty thick more wavy and I watch so many you tubers out so many different products in and my hair feels weighed down and clumpy when I put to much in

SAME! I have low porosity hair which yields the same results. Maybe you do too??
I know how you feel. I have extra fine pixie short hair and if I put more than a pencil eraser size dot of product in my hair it weighs it down and looks horrible. Experimentation is the key! Best of luck to you!

your curls are amazing... Crazy jealous. XD I have 2c/3a combo hair and some of the wavy pieces drive me nuts because they look all long and weird when the hair around them is curly.

Do pincurls while styling and clip until you are ready to leave, then release the pin curl and voila.

Your hair is beautiful! I have blonde curly hair that USED to be like yours before menopause. Like you. I put layer after layer of product on my hair too. It is absolutely exhausting. I had such a hard time figuring out the porosity of my hair in the beginning of my deva curl adventure but I had a "no duh" moment when I realized the crown of my head was low porosity and the ends high porosity. Sure makes a difference on what I put on my hair and where I place it. Anyway, just wanted to comment on your gorgeous curls!

Love the curls! I USED to have them aswell.. strawberryblonde almost to my waste..beafore menopause. Something changed, now it reminds me of pubic hair! :( At least I'm not bald! ;)

Beautiful curly hair and if it works for you with so many steps and products then thats what you have to keep doing. It looks amazing! There is 1 big difference and that is that natural curls needs totally different products then permanent curls or colored hair. Keep making these videos❤.

My hair is weird af it's wavy from the root and transitions into spirals at the end.
C. A. Fontaine that’s pretty common for like my family (Latinos) it’s because if your hair is longer the curl is weighed down, then there’s tension at the root but the bottom is light enough to curl

I wish i was patient. Tbh i believe this does work because i did it only to the front of my hair and now my hair is really curly and defined at the front but wavy and messy at the back

You have amazing curls. I only wash my hair once a week, my routine isn’t as long as yours and I only use two boucleme products, the curl cream and the gel. I’m going to try working the products in my hair the way you’ve done it to see if it helps with frizz. Thank you for sharing. Curly hair is hard work but it’s worth it

The top of my hair in the middle gets so flat throughout the day and the Roos don’t seem to curl as much as the rest of my hair do you have any ideas for root volume. I have tried the clipping method and it does work somewhat but as the day goes on it gets so flat

I have super long hair down my back. And it’s usually wavy once wet. I used to have lose spiral curls underneath when my hair was just below my shoulders.. and now they are completely gone. I’m wondering if my hair is too weighed down to curl back up. My hair is fine and I don’t have tons of it. But it’s healthy and I barely ever use heat. I love my long hair I don’t really like my hair short. But I would love to see how healthy my hair would be and to see if the texture would come back if I get a big chop. Your hair is gorgeous. Your voice is so relaxing and your details are on point! Those who don’t understand the process struggle with their own hair because they don’t care enough to learn! But I’m ready to learn and change things up for my hair! I wish I had an expert check out my hair and tell me exactly what I need and if I should cut it. I probably would but I’m still nervous 😩

Thank you for this video. I am on my journey trying to properly care for my naturally curly hair and you had some great tips! I never would have thought of mixing my styling products. Also, I've always had a pick but never used it right for my hair, now I know how to get the root volume I've desperately needed.
