The Florida Guitar Army! Awesome band Might want to give Hurry Sundown a listen. Oh and listen to the live version of this on their album Bring em back alive. It will blow you away.
So love this song, especially the beginning, instrumentation, so reminds me of Roy Clark, and Buck Owens "pickin grinning" bit they did on Hee Haw, Lady on the sofa could so see when it hit you and you started diggin it,..it's fantastic band, Godspeed, Peace ✌
When I saw the thumbnail for this southern rock classic, I got excited for Lulu to hear it. Too bad she wasn't there but wishing her all the best luck at the state competition.
This is one of the great southern rock anthems of the 70s. If ya like southern rock guitar, it doesn't get much better than this one. I've listened to this sucker countless times flyin' down the freeway to where we were gonna race sprint cars that night. Time to Stand on the GAS. CAN I GET A YeeeHaaaaaa?
Of course I've heard this one before. Southern rock is one of my favorite genres. Great band and absolutely love this song! Best music you've reacted to in the last 10 songs or more. :)
Saw them at an outdoor concert at Umass Amherst in the early/mid 70's. My freind's brother was living on campus & we spent the weekend in the dorm so we could see them live, awesome with 3 really great guitarists. Great memories, Love you ladies ! 😉😉😉
Its called Stereo phasing, from ear to ear. Man, thats sad you have hearing issues Cathy, but i think you got the awsome guitar delivery from this band. Its another classic track from the rock history catalogue. Great choice Dave.👌
Thanks for excellent reaction, I have heart disease and did my exercises to this fantastic music. There are amazing live videos of the band and this song, stretching for some 20 minutes, so go and treat Donna...lol!
I always put this song alongside ""Freebird" as one of the best duo guitar solos. I like the left & right panning of the 2 guitars with the 1 rhythm guitar in the middle. The bass player really shines in this song to keep it moving.
Saw them in the 70s in my home town of Chicago. The Aragon Ballroom on the Northside of the city , had tons of rock acts and me and my brothers and friends were always there! They actually opened for Foghat when we saw them!
From 1975, the year I got married. This has always been one of my favorites. The dual lead guitars I feel can only be outmatched by Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird. Inspired by waves on a beach in tall grass, a nostalgic memory of old movie theatres with Golden Curtains and legendary stars who took you on fantastic journeys and adventures. Great reaction to this song.
There's a great 23+ minute live video version on UA-cam. I'd definitely tune in to watch and listen to it with y'all. And, yah, Lulu would love to watch it, too. Great song, great video. I went to see another band, once upon a time, and these guys opened for them. Blew me away, and finished their set with a long version of this song. I'd never heard of them before, but I owned all 3 of the albums they had out at the time by noon the day after the concert. Enjoyed your reaction, as well. The reason that studio/stereo versions bother you is that most of them are mixed and mastered to sound good in a room with good loudspeakers, rather than through headphones. Put this same studio recording on a good stereo system and listen to it in your living room and it would sound much better to you.
Most reaction channels have not heard of them. Rob Squad reaction channel is notorious for ignoring this band while posting over a dozen LS video reactions. Weird.
I'm deaf in one ear as well. That's why I can't use headphones. It can be frustrating. There actually is a live video of them playing this song. I highly recommend it.
I saw these guys perform at the World Music Festival, they had REO Speedwagon's guitarists on stage with them. There were FIVE guitarists jamming to this song. It was AWESOME!
Hi, I am the person who "bought the coffees" for this reaction. About seeing them live: This iteration of this band you heard was prominent in the Seventies. There are live recordings on UA-cam you can check out. The tech in the Seventies was not what it is today so the vids are not very good. But, yes, you can get an idea of what these two guitarist and their "dual lead soloing" looked like. And yes, AWESOME. I saw them live 76-78 whenever they played in the LA area. I had to have my jaw surgically re-lifted into place after the first time seeing them. They would stand next to each other and in synchronization would rip out that lead that is the climax of this song. So it was like more than seeing one guitarist like, Bonamassa or Alvin Lee or any other "shredder" you want to name (okay I'll name Rory Gallagher, another fave guitar player for me). It was like seeing two of these together. These two guitarist are now deceased, unfortunately. Rather short lives. One, a suicide before he was 50, the other had a heart attack and died sleeping in his easy chair after watching NFL at the age of 55. But, their talents live on in recordings that I listen to almost everyday for almost 50 years now.
I saw them open for Skynyrd in 76. Skynyrd only had two guitarists (Ed King had just left the band) so when they did Sweet Home Alabama they had Hughie Thomason come out to do the third guitar part for that song. Who knew that years later he would be part of Skynyrd.
BTW, Rory Gallagher is the best guitarist i ever saw live. Seen him in L.A. in 91 and Slash was in the VIP section. Rory brought him out for one of his encores and they jammed on a couple of Chuck Berry tunes. It was pretty awesome.
Love all the southern rock bands. Saw the Outlaws with Molly Hatchet and I think it was Pat Travers together when I was stationed at Ft. Gordon GA in 1984. I really love The Allman Brothers and The Marshall Tucker Band.
Saw them in a 3200 seat venue, The Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ. The opening act was a then unknown band named Molly Hatchet ETA… Also saw them at Giant’s Stadium, after Poco, Todd Rundgren …then after The Outlaws, a large percentage of the stadium walked out on Boston
Actually the original analog was just like this it just the stereo effect.they were called the guitar army.there goes another love song, and I always like there version of knoxville girl.
Their 3rd guitarist, Freddie Salem, just died a few days ago. He was with them back in their heyday. There is a great live video of this that's like 20 mins long, and it kicks major ass.
I saw the Outlaws opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Orpheum Theater in Boston in 76. I never heard of them before. This was their closing song and it just blew everyone away. The audio is probably the best version to listen to when being introduced to this song. Live versions don't always get the sound right. I didn't know that about Kathy's hearing. Isn't that a issue on live recordings too because they are in stereo too.
You ladies should really check out Fanny. "Ain't That Peculiar" or their cover of the Beatles' "Hey, Bulldog." I would love to see you review either (or both). You will not be disappointed! Love your enthusiasm for the music, by the way. Thanks... Darren.
Another Outlaws song to try is "There Goes Another Love Song." Changing the Left/Right balance in the headphones might help improve the hearing in whichever ear is not hearing as well.
Obviously part of the southern rock scene that came out the late 60s and early 70s the Allman Brothers , Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Outlaws , Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot , Black Oak Arkansas , Charlie Daniels band ect ect etc Another one of those triple guitar bands That were so good
My favorite southern rock bands from Texas are zz top, point blank, bloodrock, nitzinger and Los lonely boys. The only two bands still recording and touring are zz top and Los lonely boys. Point blank bloodrock and nitzinger were from Dallas fort worth
As was satd there is a live version on U Tube but it was filmed and recorded in, I believe 1973. It was open miked rather than taking its vocal sound direct from the mikes so while it is very worth the watch, the singing is a bit muddy. The instrumentals are however great. The recording is just over 22 minutes so as you can guess the instrumentals are extended and great. You also get to see everybody's personality as they are playing.
You were correct to listen to the studio version FIRST, which is ALWAYS the right thing to do because, a lot of times, the live is either not as good, has bad sound, is faster or slower, is done differently (unplugged as opposed to the original electric), is performed with different musicians (personnel changes) or is otherwise inferior to the studio version. There ARE exceptions, and bands like The Allman Brothers Band is one of them, but in this case, I firmly believe this was the best way to introduce yourself to these guys. Kathy, maybe you could just NOT listen to them through the headphones ... that way you could hear everything. It's not ideal, but with your difficulties, for some songs, it might be for the best. Love you two (and of course, Lulu) 🤗🥰😉👍
Can y’all plz do more stryper! Do “ always there for you.” It’s a beautiful song. Guarantee y’all will fall in love with it. They r a Christian hair metal band whom they r my all time #1 band and they really saved my life.
Nice ride.🤩 This is great to play in the jukebox because it's 1. Very good. 2. Long as hell Sadly, this was their only "hit". Need headphones for that ride.
Panning of the channels, moving sounds from one speaker to the other has been around since the end of the sixties. And before that (and after to a lesser extent) with stereo records they would many times put some instruments on one side and the rest on the other with vocals going on one side or the other and sometimes in the center (equal on both speakers. All In an attempt to add a since of space to the sound. This can be hard on us with hearing loss in one ear. The only thing we can do is either crank the balance up for our bad ear or not listen on headphones if we have complete loss on one ear.
No not all. Henry Paul is still alive and playing with them. Monte Yoho the drummer is also still alive however I don’t believe he’s playing but I could be wrong about his playing.
You can set your sound OUTPUT to MONO instead of STEREO, plus, here they are "LIVE!" The Outlaws - Green Grass And High Tides - 11/10/1978 - LIVE ua-cam.com/video/WEkJFR69IXw/v-deo.html
Everyone was trying to do that Lynyrd Skynyrd thing. In fact their guitarist Rickey Metlock joined Skynyrd in '87 when they reunited 10 years after the tragic plane crash killed half the band.
The audio on the live version is not nearly as good as the studio version. I saw them live in 1980 they were with Charlie Daniels band and the Marshall Tucker band a truly great concert !!!!
It's kind of funny. You were both a little bummed about not seeing a live version. I was thinking, "for once they're not watching a live performance, Yay!" IMO live performances are usually not as good as the studio version. There are exceptions, of course (Genesis, Rush) but as a rule of thumb, go with the studio version 1st.
With intended love, are y'all gonna make this Texan keep asking for a react to Jinjer's new song/vid Someone's Daughter? Science and strong women are important. Congrats on your project Lulu! 👍🤘Y'all will see Madam Curie depicted in the vid. Just sayin'. 🍻
The Florida Guitar Army! Awesome band
Might want to give Hurry Sundown a listen. Oh and listen to the live version of this on their album Bring em back alive. It will blow you away.
It looks like Donna got her guitar " FIX " for the evening... I've seen them live and they do sound like this !!!

I saw Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie and The Outlaws in concert together in Savannah Georgia at the Civic Center. Fantastic concert!
THIER IS A LIVE VIDIO ON UA-cam GREAT REACTION
Great reaction, Cathy and Donna! The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynryd and The Marshall Tucker Band are my three favorite Southern Rock Bands.
The live version with the 5 minute instrumental at the end is the best.
When I saw the thumbnail for this southern rock classic, I got excited for Lulu to hear it. Too bad she wasn't there but wishing her all the best luck at the state competition.
We got lift off.... Donna, go girl. 🤗

Wishing LULU , the best of luck at the state fair !!!!!!! Great reaction , Ladies ! This is an awesome song !
Thanks
A fantastic track from one of the best ever!
If you liked this one, listen also to their "There Goes Another Love Song."
Now that's kicking ass guitars!!!
One of thre Baddest Jams in the Land. Just saw them last month just to hear this tune live at least once in my life. Thanks Ladies.
TAMPA BABY!!!!
Of course I've heard this one before. Southern rock is one of my favorite genres. Great band and absolutely love this song! Best music you've reacted to in the last 10 songs or more. :)

Should share this song with Lulu she would love it after all she's a 70s girl stuck in 2024. Nice reaction ladies.
The Outlaws was my favorite band growing up. Need to show them to Lulu later.
I love The Outlaws. “Stick Around For Rock n Roll”, is very catchy.
THANKS 🌹For reminding me how great this song is. Haven't heard it in a while. The intro and beginning is beautiful! Great Job Ladies! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
1978 Anahiem Stadium...they performed this song and it went on for 26 minutes.
Great reaction!
I was there too! One of my all time favorite bands!

A hell of a Guitar ride
I have seen them live and it was great they sounded even better 👋

I'm born and bred in Jacksonville Florida the home of southern rock I've always liked This one better than Free Bird !!!
I saw The Outlaws in 1976 open for Lynryd Skynryd at Winterland San Francisco. Incredible. You can find a live version of this song on UA-cam.
The song is referencing musicians and stars who have passed away. Guitarist Hughie Thomason wrote this while standing on a beach looking at the sky.
All the garage bands used to cover this song. It was covered in every club. Every time we'd turn on the radio it would be playing.
Saw them in the 70s in my home town of Chicago. The Aragon Ballroom on the Northside of the city , had tons of rock acts and me and my brothers and friends were always there! They actually opened for Foghat when we saw them!

Thank you! You too!
Classic FM Radio staple 70's and 80's. Great southern rock band that had country cross over success.
There is a Live Video 20 minutes plus!! I saw them !!! KICK ASS SICK ASS SOUTHERN ROCK ❤😊😢,🎸🔥🐐
Tampa boys. Now do they know how to play that Sweet Guitar Driven Southern Rock?
This is my favorite by them! Good work Dave!
Most reaction channels have not heard of them. Rob Squad reaction channel is notorious for ignoring this band while posting over a dozen LS video reactions. Weird.
I actually like Stick Around better.
Aint that just about the prettiest song you ever heard😊. Next. Heard it in a love song by the marshall tucker band; please
A song that reminds me so much of my high school years The outlaws are still going strong they recently bought a couple of my high-tech microphones
Not the same band. Keyboard for Freeborn Man? Really?
There is a live video that also features a drum solo!
Saw them five times the Florida guitar army
I'm deaf in one ear as well. That's why I can't use headphones. It can be frustrating. There actually is a live video of them playing this song. I highly recommend it.

Love all the southern rock bands. Saw the Outlaws with Molly Hatchet and I think it was Pat Travers together when I was stationed at Ft. Gordon GA in 1984. I really love The Allman Brothers and The Marshall Tucker Band.
The LIVE version SMOKES too!
The Outlaws | Green Grass And High Tides !!! I did see them in the mid 70's in my concert going days.
IT IS FLORIDAS GUITAR ARMY LOL!!!!
Saw them in a 3200 seat venue, The Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ. The opening act was a then unknown band named Molly Hatchet

For some reason this one puts me in mind of Blue Oyster Cult. I guess it's the instrumental(s) giving off that BOC vibe.
Great choice. This was a huge tune back in the day. Very popular.
One of the four greatest Southern rock anthems along with Skynyrd 's Freebird , Allman Brothers Whipping post , and Blackfoot 's Highway song
1978 live version is 23 minutes of straight jamming, try it out 😊
Hey Ladies! Pretty much a one hit wonder. Excellent song! Enjoy!!👍☮️😎
Negative. Off the top of my head "There Goes Another Love Song". Southern rock at its finest.
Freeborn Man and Hurry Sundown got some radio play in the 70s.

Saw the Outlaws opening for the Rolling Stones at Orchard Park near Buffalo in Aug. 75. Made the triple-guitar feature work well for them, imo. 😊

There Goes Another Love Song, Freeborn Man and Hurry Sundown got a lot of airplay in the 70s. This was their biggest hit but they did have others.
