I'm from Russia, I lived in Greece for 16 years, most beautiful country in the world. Ελλάδα είναι η πιο όμορφη χώρα στον κόσμο, ας την φωτίσει πάντα ο βασιλιάς ήλιος..!
Oh wow....just found this after seeing a very short clip on a tv programme about 70's holidays in the UK. Had a great 2 weeks in Agia Marina way back in 1995. I was really surprised to see the concrete hotel across the bay was already there and abandoned even in 1978!
2 weeks high season at the Avra hotel (bed & breakfast), flying from Gatwick for £152. That is equivalent to £880 in today's money (2020)...not that cheap!
@GaryGuevara Yes, it was interesting to see how new they were back then. If you click on an e-zine called The Metaworker you can read a couple of stories by me. One of them is about a trip to Aegina I made when living in Athens. Assuming they are still up there. Lovely island, which I ignored for a while with it being so close to Athens.
The wood fired bakers oven stayed warm for hours so - like lots of places around the world - it was cheaper for meals to be cooked in the residual heat of the bakers oven than pay for fuel at home to cook it.....
it wasn't a matter if cost, my darling. At the baker's oven you could bake a huge tray of food to feed your guests. When you only had to cook for the family, you baked the food at the home oven.
Brings back memories of my back packing hippie overland route to Greece via Italy. Package holidays had only just started. Now these lovely places have been completely spoilt and can never be put back into reasonable shape. Mass tourism is a sort of pollution.
Well Judith I can be Zeus and you can be my goddess ... and we are going on a seven day boat trip round the islands ,,,,,just you and me and plenty of wine and nuts

Is it still the same as this?
Yes.
I also think so from Hungary.
Beautiful and friendly country. I regularly go to Greece during the summer months.
I went to Aegina in 1984 and stayed at hotel Apollo, it was fabulous x
I used to think that Judith had the best job in the world presenting this show.
I went to schooling Athens 1970-71...CYA....this video brings back memories...a souvlaki in Athens at that time costed $.50
In the days when a holiday in the med was something special.
