I have the 3rd gen Thinkpad yoga X1, paid USD 3000+ in 2018, use it everyday and still feels like new. Was the only good option with 2 Thunderbolts back then to be paired with an eGPU
I have a T495 thats given many problems over the last three years of ownership (bought new during COVID). I keep flipping between a framework, newer Thinkpad, or older Thinkpad (T480 or similar era Thinkpad) as a replacement.
My T14 G1 (AMD) burns battery even when off (and in 'linux' sleep mode). I leave it off for a week and it's down to half. Lenovo's BIOS is clearly doing something when it should be off. Fully updated BIOS. Even leaving it overnight and you are down from 100 to 90%. Lenovo refuses to acknowledge the problem and always blames nonsensical reasons such as "drivers".
Same thing happen to my V14 G2, if I'm not mistaken it was also the bios, because after I turned off quick boot and sleep mode from Lenovo Vantage it still drain battery despite being inactive
This is a long known issue from back then when it was released. I am not sure if there's any resolution for it. I was following the discussion on the freedesktops Gitlab instance and have never continue reading for 2 years now. I have since been avoiding any AMD powered laptops to run Linux and be concerned with the lack of development from the manufacturer since they don't QA everything down properly.
Thats the NSA checking in on all the Thinkpad owners 😂 Not gonna act like some linux user and say we need physical disconnect from battery.... but.... yeah it would be nice to turn off radios and battery with actual tactile switches you can see.
@@jameskirk3 Jokes aside, the problem mainly lies with their BIOS programmers whom are still quite new and had to deal with spaghetti implementation of the power states. Lenovo US had someone experienced sent to Lenovo China because they weren't able to reproduce the battery leak at first. He himself attempted to fix it but since the BIOS is a borrowed mess they always reuse from precious gen of which is not a good indication of R&D and QA. Ironically, this issue does not seem to affect other brands or even their Ideapad lines and it have since been difficult for this one person to convince his upper managements to do something about it.
If you like this laptop, you should really try the P14s Gen 5 Intel (not the AMD). This ThinkPad is the GOAT. @@aChairLeg Yeah no I mean... one of them do mean something for *me* so... that's why I asked this question. I wondered if they were hand-picked by you or not because of that.
If Lenovo would go back to the X60 keyboard and form factor with a small icon based touch screen bar under the 2.8k main NON TOUCH screen, they'd kill it. Put thunderbolt in it, TB drives, a great CPU, and a solid dGPU, theyd kill it.
Pretty sure many ThinkPad users are switching to M1 Macs now and just forget about repairability. Without the sturdy build, a lesser keyboard and an average screen, what does a T-series offer anyway?
Felt cheap, battery life was horrible, performance wasn't great. Maybe it was just me, but I really did not like that laptop at all. The T14 Gen 1 is significantly better IMO, but I've gotten somewhat picky with my laptops as I've started to use and rely on them more
Expertbook replaced Thinkpad for me a loooong time ago. More sturdy and ergonomic design, better software support and functionality (really hate Lenovo Vantage), and somehow waaaay cheaper than newer Thinkpad (at least in my country). The only downside is the screen is not really good for its price
I had to replace my trusty E14 g2 AMD back in the middle of this year because I had to spend most of my time in the hospital and it kept dying on me. I tried my best to find a really good, portable, windows laptop with great battery life, but it just didn't exist. I ended up moving to a MacBook Air M3, which had better specs than the T14 I was looking for and it was actually cheaper. why. Lenovo. why
Funny that you make a video on this, I feel like this laptop is cursed. The laptop CPUs that came out since this was released are so much better... Both HX 370 and Core Ultra Series 2. However, for both of those new chips RAM will not be replacable (in fact, on core Ultra Series 2 the memory is part of the chip), so T14 G6 will not be repairable again.
You can upgrade the ram, unless the seller forgot to mention the BIOS is password locked and if you open the case itll brick itself. Because the seller also doesn't have the password.
Also since I heard that Lenovo has start permanently locking Ryzen processors to their motherboards, I try to avoid them as much as possible. I repair laptops, and the amount of Lenovo laptops that come in…..
155U has a much weaker GPU than 155H. That's in contrast to AMD's 7840U which is more or less the same as the 7840HS. Also, the user-replaceable DDR5 is a decent chunk slower than its soldered counterpart, which, again, affects the GPU on these APU-based laptops.
Laptop landscape is a horrid mess for a lot of people right now. Windows(x86) laptops usually lack or suffer from one or more of the following: battery life, quality of screen, speakers, keyboard, touchpad, lack of high speed ports, poor chassis build, noise/thermals and repairability is often neglected just like Apple products. Apple otoh completely rips people off with ram and storage upgrades but their laptops are otherwise good quality and balanced machines with fewer major software issues like windows laptops suffer from such as high battery drain in sleep mode. Lenovo isn't helping the Thinkpad brand because for the price even Razer builds higher quality and performance laptops and that's telling something about your business model of not appealing to consumers at all.
I lost faith in thinkpad/Lenovo. Their firmware is terrible. There’s an issue with the X1C6 thunderbolt charging and their solution was to nerf the thunderbolt port to prevent any charging which makes it frustrating to use with a thunderbolt dock as it won’t charge. Had to explain and argue my case to support for months and I did not get a resolution. I think the best alternative now for upgradability etc is Framework. Lenovo has ruined thinkpads and their legendary support.
What lenovo can't do right now is the battery. Yes thinkpads are worse than what they were but they are still great except for the battery. Hp, dell and asus can fit a bigger battery in a smaller chassis.
You kids and your new fangled lipservicelaptops with what passes for repairability. The T440P is the last great ThinkPad. It is the definition of what Lenovo has lost and what it needs to return to.
the new thinkpads are worse build. we are using lenovo laptops for a long time now and they are getting worse and cheaper each time. they just break all the time you have to spend double the price to get a good product as it used to be in the past. and the cooling desing and fan courve is questionable

Felt cheap, battery life was horrible, performance wasn't great. Maybe it was just me, but I really did not like that laptop at all. The T14 Gen 1 is significantly better IMO, but I've gotten somewhat picky with my laptops as I've started to use and rely on them more
I will continue to use my T490s until I have the budget for a Framework.
...yes im aware how my T490s has soldered in ram :((((
P53/73 ThinkPads with rtx 5000 16gb cards are amazing.
Ive got a p52 p2000 and I DREAM that I get a P53 with an RTX card. It would be my laptop for life.
Do a video on Framework 16 please
Expertbook replaced Thinkpad for me a loooong time ago. More sturdy and ergonomic design, better software support and functionality (really hate Lenovo Vantage), and somehow waaaay cheaper than newer Thinkpad (at least in my country). The only downside is the screen is not really good for its price
I want a new beast like the IBM 600X. And I still use my i5 Thinkpad L380 Yoga.
2:40 Me trying to figure out what the disclaimer on the top of the video ends with.
I had to replace my trusty E14 g2 AMD back in the middle of this year because I had to spend most of my time in the hospital and it kept dying on me. I tried my best to find a really good, portable, windows laptop with great battery life, but it just didn't exist. I ended up moving to a MacBook Air M3, which had better specs than the T14 I was looking for and it was actually cheaper. why. Lenovo. why
Buying a grey Thinkpad is like buying a yellow Ferrari, your opinion at this point doesn't count!!!
Damn....my Ferrari is yellow
@@aChairLegWell you buy a grey ThinkPad then 😂💯💯
Funny that you make a video on this, I feel like this laptop is cursed.
What? This is a brand new machine... LOL Self bricking for opeining the case? Where did you come up with this stuff?
Also since I heard that Lenovo has start permanently locking Ryzen processors to their motherboards, I try to avoid them as much as possible. I repair laptops, and the amount of Lenovo laptops that come in…..
Lenovo currently fusing yoga series style to Thinkpad
I stay away from Intel devices but AMD Think pads still hold the life
ThinkPad is like toyota or casio they're very reliable
How are people commenting 9 hours ago if the video is no older than 13 minutes lol
How are you commenting if our eyes aren't real?
@@aChairLegHmmmm
You kids and your new fangled lipservicelaptops with what passes for repairability.
The T440P is the last great ThinkPad. It is the definition of what Lenovo has lost and what it needs to return to.
The ThinkPads went downhill when Lenovo was bought by a Chinese company, from then on you could see corners being cut.
Lenovo has been Chinese founded and internationally funded since forever...
Newer Thinkpad kinda meh
At this point, I might switch to thin gaming laptop
they're starting to look more like the yoga model :/
the new thinkpads are worse build. we are using lenovo laptops for a long time now and they are getting worse and cheaper each time. they just break all the time you have to spend double the price to get a good product as it used to be in the past. and the cooling desing and fan courve is questionable
Thinkpads haven't been good for like 10 years now
thinkpad -> think different pad
I never understood 16:9 and now i canot understand 16:10! So why don't go 16:12 xD
showing 0.5mm flex is just silly
t60 was peak, and this is still worse
jaja nmms me salio una publicidad de lenovo al principio

I'm using a thinkbook
seems like a reasonable laptop. Wish it was cheaper

Thinkbook is the new thinkpad
only 7row kb laptops are thinkpads - dont bother with that trash
that display looks horrendous
You mumble so bad I don't even know what the model number is
apple sucks 👍
your voice is unbearable ho rrror
I'll still stick with my HP EliteBooks. They're just such good laptops for the price I pay for them. I just upgraded from a 840 G5 with a maxed out 8th gen i7 to the 845 G7 with a Ryzen 5 and this thing is ridiculously fast! I don't even feel like the 8 core Ryzen 7 this laptop came with would even make sense for me to buy, other than to waste money (which I love to do…😏). Still a great video nonetheless!🫡
