For one thing, seeing their studios of the day - where entire (sub)genre(s) emerged - most of them re in unturned rooms for one (it looks that way at least) so, their set-ups are deeply relatable ; they are not that much more advanced than the average (and of course not-so-average) modern bedroom producers' set up! THAT in it self shows every one of us of the potential to still create magic within our personal gear/and skill level limitations I learned at first, through necessity, how to do with what I had/have at the time. Dupstep /Grime /Bassline etc comes from Garage, Garage comes from House, hence 'House and Garage' term used in its early days. Chicago started it. The UK embraced it and made it our own!
Don't forget olskool hardcore, Chicago's influence can't failrly be held as the preeminent influence to it's (garage/dubstep's) dance/electro roots *Dancehall also, with its dominant percussion being drum machine based + vocal samples used in British music 1990s onward.
i think it's finally happened. i've seen every type of explanation a professional accomplished musician could give on their secrets & sources of inspiration & ways of creating music. everything is overlapping and im noticing how everyone builds their songs is how the guy in the last video did. i need to spend more time in my daw than on youtube now... se ya later.
If anyone still even cares, he's using Logic 5 with FL Studio as a plugin.I Still use Logic 5 myself and FL Studio in the same manner. Great way to use plugins with Logic PC that won't run in the program natively. I wish someone would hack this version of Logic to remove the 1GB memory limit. Maybe add delay compensation. Still the best.
Emagic Logic Audio! Man, it's been almost a decade since I've seen that software. Great stuff about EQing that everyone should know. So, he just does his drums in FL and imports the WAVs into Logic?
thats very clever what he said about mixing in a low volume... i do it sometimes as well when i want to check and its true that you realize about things that you cant notice when you are mixing very high
I was going to point out something until i got sucked into the negativity that exist in most of these videos.. What I was going to say is that it very interesting to hear some of these guys' theories on producing EDM. They seem to all have different theories to end up with what they are attempting to do. I dig these videos, although I'm mostly into the Deeper House music,Tech House, and Techno. But nonetheless, I learn quite a bit as I go along. Blessings and Good Health 2 all, IN EVERY COUNTRY
I'd say DnB, garage, dub step, future house, deep house can all be grouped under UK Bass. House, trance, brostep can't really be classed as UK Bass because they focus more on mids and highs. It's a bit more specific than just calling everything EDM.
Garage comes from the Paradise Garage club in New York, which is in America. UK garage and 2-step Garage is from London and Dubstep grew out of that. You're right, but kind of wrong at the same time haha :)
why does he render the loops in FL as audio? why doesn't he just rewire the two sequencers and use FL as an audio channel in logic? is it because it's easier 2 bounce down the audio?
lol, people should quit saying that if you use FL you're a weak producer, truth is, FL has one of the best step sequencers on any software, period. Although, the playlist and automation choices aren't as good as most other DAWs, but that's why using more than 1 DAW is a good thing. For me it's FL to make the patterns, and Ableton to put them all together. Everyone has their own way to produce tracks, respect them.
@@sheateeley1 hes not thats all FL if you look on the left monitor ...he brought up the fact that he doesnt do the final Mix in Fl, that he brings those stems into logic later
Dub is definitely part of where it came from (kick on 1, snare on 3, heavy emphasis on bass), but yeah, the actual electro side is heavily rooted in 2step garage music, probably more so than Dub. Dub + 2step = Dubstep.
It doesn't matter what software or hardware you have. If you have the 'Know how' and something as small as a 2 octave MIDI, you can make a pretty decent track give or take how patient you are with using your cursor and clicking on VST nobs.. Etc lol. I personally prefer Ableton because that's what I started on and my current set up is a keyboard, an Alesis Q-25, a MPD-26, and a MPK-49 and I'm perfectly content with it all.
i wouldnt be surprised if he is still doing everything in the box, he might of bought some crazy monitors and for sure will have a very nice set room with amazing acoustics, but im sure he is not using any analog or even hardware synths...
These Computer Music/Future Music videos from 10+ years ago are an absolute goldmine of inspiration. Thank you for these!!!

Albino VST must have been the go to back in the day, i was looking at Rusko's masterclass and he was using it a fair bit there as well...
I think I need to grab it, I feel like resurrecting oldschool dub.
seen a vid of skream using it as well
yup!!!!
was a nice vst. still is. better than massive at oldschool dub sounds imo
this was years ago of course....
2022 We need Benga back!
2024 called, he's back and playing at Coachella
hellzyea! @@superjock28
10 year anniversary for me, I never saw this.. but this dubstep was when it was actually good 🙌🏻
Tom Kaos [Official] I'm on an old skool dubstep streak tonight.
Couldn't agree more, this was it at its peak. Good memories man
first feature where the artist gets things going already in the first 3 minutes
his latest interview with his brother brought me here!
what's the interview called?
I remember Dose on Big Apple Records blue badge one of my fav's to date was so happy to get that record. One of his first releases, the beat was slightly off when the rift comes in at first surprised no one ever picked that up
Thumbs up to these guys for wanting to share their knowledge with the world.
i like his desk... and that back ground hum in the video the most
The background hum sounds like a reese bass.

The very definition a competent bedroom producer. Excellent work. And a pretty cool guy as well :)
Benga is my favorite
aah, when benga was still making dubstep :')
this guy is a true genius /got nothing to say ..this guys feels the music
Big ups to Benga and FM! Can we do a follow-up? Maybe Skream?

Yeah I got a bit confused. Pretty interesting to use FL as a plugin so you can use VST's like Harmor etc. to make patches.
ElFudgeMusic yo, harmor is available as a vst, i think. I wish there was a slicex vst...
ElFudgeMusic Even more interesting is he was using Logic 5 all the way up till 2009. Astounding!
This is actually pointless nowadays. With FLS 10 and 11 you don't need anything else.

Yeah but it aint Logic 5 though !
we need a full version 16:32 :(
Emagic Logic Audio! Man, it's been almost a decade since I've seen that software. Great stuff about EQing that everyone should know. So, he just does his drums in FL and imports the WAVs into Logic?
When dubstep was dubstep!
thank you for this video!
He's talking about Dubstep, which comes from Garage, which comes from London, which is in the UK.
Super Interview ! :)

That's Logic Pro 5.1 it's for pc and mac. Logic 6 is mac only.
oh i know that. but grime had the halftime drums too.
it spawned directly from dark garage and grime in the city of london.
good comment alex!

soooo maaannnnyyyy ppppeeeeooopppplllleee
Thanks Brah!
He uses logic (for macs) and fl studio (for PC's) how is he doing that. Unless the fl studio vst works on a mac?
Thank you :)
Cubase in 2008... feels like a time machine
I think the fact he uses FL gives hope to aspiring musicians & producers etc
It’s logic
what is that on your head?
What is the track called that he is working at lets say 26.48?
someone tellme how he has logic on windows please?
EDM = Electronic Dance Music. Pretty accurate description if you ask me. What's all the fuss about?
Wait, why has he put on so many effects? Oh it's for automation purposes. (Repeat)
So much mastering, but no one thought about simply using mastering tools to get rid of that constant bad microphone noise ?
Is that... Logic and FL together?!!
yup!!
@@sheateeley1 hes not thats all FL if you look on the left monitor ...he brought up the fact that he doesnt do the final Mix in Fl, that he brings those stems into logic later

Yeah early dubstep and late dark garage, especially El-B is basically the same thing.
can anybody tell me what speakers he use?
its logic 5.5 the last version for pc

well Logic wasnt always Mac only. Or he's running FL in Parallels
i wouldnt be surprised if he is still doing everything in the box, he might of bought some crazy monitors and for sure will have a very nice set room with amazing acoustics, but im sure he is not using any analog or even hardware synths...
Can anyone tell me the name of the song?
No. UK Garage was the UK's twist on Garage from the US. Without Garage from the 'Paradise Garage club', UK garage would never have existed :)
running fl and logic ? old logic , windows running on mac or cracked fl ?
Pleasure ;D
How is he using logic on windows xp??
before apple bought logic, it used to be on both apple and windows. it used to be owned by emagic.
and Seven Lions??
Pleasure is such a good track, I wish it didn't have that sample at all though..
logic on pc?

ReWire ?
fuckin legend
This was in 2008 and youre JUST now uploading it?
i thought they use audacity?
It kind of is. I came about the same time as house. It was just vocal acapellas mashed up with house tunes really.
Dude, the term "electronica" wasn't used officially until the mid 1990s, well after the conception of the first electronic music.
12th planet doesn't use fl studios.

Golden tips
Yep.
Good advice on limiting. Brick walls take all the dynamics out of a track.
yeah they defo make acoustic ballads...
I think he means UK Garage its sounds nothing like the us garage you think he's talking about. Have a look.
He didn't say or imply in any way that black people have less money.
That's just your interpretations, but hey, you got a bunch of thumbs up
Man goes in xDD
sweet :)
guys, relax....it's just for automation purposes.
Dont forget Feed Me :)
It partially does.
should film some psytrance/progressive artists like neelix, switch, day.din... and you should film two artists that are doing a song together :D
He was tweaking the decay when the sustain was full...
So you think Avicii is black too???
I wouldn't go as far as to say "simple" but anywho it looks like he's rewired it via cubase in this video.
FUCKING THANK YOU.
