I'm a techno guy and I still got Midnight Request Line and Night. Both awesome tracks and I'm happy to own them on wax. Caspa was right about how it fits into some house sets as well.
It doesn't matter whether you're into house, techno, dubstep, jungle or anything else - there's records that totally transcend genre. Things that you hear and go, "That's badness..." no matter what you're into.
I couldn't believe it when I saw this video on here, this side of the old dubstep barely has views on youtube uploads and generally is more underground, also I'm not even British and most of these tracks I was familiar with and knew
who cares lol, people like different music. ive never understood this. the people who listen to brostep would never have listened to original dubstep and vice versa. the fact that they share a suffix is just circumstantial
Tim Coleman that’s nothing to do with what I said. People think brostep IS dubstep and have never even heard of the term “brostep”. It’s a conflation of terms which is totally wrong. You wouldn’t call Blues music Metal would you? So why accept it here?
Tim Coleman you’re totally wrong anyway. The people who listened to brostep did listen to dubstep. Hell, the people that created brostep started at dub. But the point is, people don’t know what dubstep is, thinking it’s all stuff like Skillex’s shite when it simply isn’t.
Tim Coleman also, think you need to look up “circumstantial”. Because your use of that is wrong too. Brostep evolved from dubstep, so there’s nothing remotely circumstantial about it.
this could've easily been a full hour and i still would've wanted more. real shit for real heads, when the scene and sound was pure and made with love and care. also cool to see all these folks reminisce. great selections (including a few tunes new to me), great lineup, fucking great episode - def hoping for more dubstep related entries down the line!
Joker wasnt too big in the US, glad I got to see him in Denver. Going on a eurotrip in April would love to find some rooms playing this era of dubstep. Certainly miss it, brostep wave in the US drowned this style out way too fast here.
How do y'all make your music sound so distinct!!! Man, hearing these tunes have re-awakened something deep in me. I can only wish to make music as impactful as this. Good memories tied to these songs, aged 14-18, mixing these alone to myself in my bedroom :'D

First episode of the series where I actually knew quite a few of the tracks! I was mindblown when I heard these tunes for the first time in late 2000s. Awesome series, love it - now Garage episode!
Gotta love early dub, mate used to love dubstep warz around 2006 on radio one back in the day. Was some serious artists about back then. Big up the oldschool dub legends!
i'm a techno/ebm head ususally but one night i went to a Mala gig in Brixton: the groove and rum with ginger beer and i had one of the best nights ever.
I don’t want to brag, but I had every tune and producer named while the intro was still playing and I have sold at least one copy of each (except joker psychedelic runway and breakage feat. Roots Manuva) in the record store I was working at back at the time. What an awesome time of my life. Will never forget.
Great selection, brings back lots of happy memories of when I moved to London in 2006, living in Brixton going to DMZ at Mass every month. The atmosphere was unreal, so much positive vibes from everyone.

Fantastic stuff. So many memories from those halycon days (or daze even!). The first even DMZ I went to was at the last one they did at 3rd Base before going upstairs to Mass. love how Mala and Caspa both guess at 2562's tune by saying "3024", thinking they were way off, but 3024 is the name of Martyn's label.
Shoutout to whoever selected these tracks!
