This video has made me think about how unfair some media have been to Weezer. It is true that not all their albums are masterpieces, but they have endured in the preference of their public over time, a public that is not four people, but millions of fans.
I thought I knew everything there was to know about Weezer but I somehow missed that the DeTour script leaked! Excellent detective work. Also really consistently funny, that Mr. Incredible visual gag at the end got me good.

He said "I just learned that our Broadway shows have been cancelled (due to low ticket sales and unbelievably high expenses.) I'm very sorry to be telling you this now after we've already invested so much time, thought, and emotion. Extra apologies to those of you who cleared schedules and made travel plans to be with us".
To Fox's credit, the network is good about trying things that other broadcast networks would not, like The Simpsons, In Living Color, Family Guy, That '70s Show, and others. However, they cancel pretty much everything that doesn't find instant success, like Firefly, The Tick , Undeclared, That '80s Show, and others. It's very likely that Detour would've been canceled after a few episodes anyways.

"On May 22, 2020, Cuomo hosted an Island in the Zoom video conference with screenwriter Yalun Tu as the special guest, wherein Tu explained that he and Cuomo were working on a pitch for a TV series in which Cuomo would play a fictionalized version of himself, who performs with Weezer and lives as a family man while also secretly being an alien from outer space. On October 23 of that year, while simultaneously streaming to Instagram and TikTok, Cuomo recorded his segment of the pitch, which included a performance of "Simple to Me", featuring lyrics alluding to being a martian." Now, I don't know if this would've been good, but it does tap into something that DeTour didn't and that was Rivers awkwardness and I think there IS something here, though I don't know if Rivers playing himself would've been a good idea.
I wonder if the title chosen for the serie has influenced in the decision . On one hand, the title does not suggest the content of the serie much. On the other hand, if the tittle was one of the causes, that could always be discussed, changing or improving. This is just one opinion that I would like to share with my friends, the Weezer Fans.
The pilot leaked recently... It's not great, very average TV writing from that time. If Weezer's name wasn't attached to it it would be nothing special, but it's pretty cute considering it has their involvement. Some highlights include Rivers' cameo, The main character singing California Kids at the end, and for some reason Logan Paul being in it?
I just watched it and found it enjoyable. The main character and the Asian girl were the standouts. The main dude had a bit of a Sean Spencer vibe in how he interacts with everybody. I wonder if Franks intentionally wrote him like Sean to try to replicate the success of Psych or if that's just how he writes his characters, but either way the actor did an excellent job bringing the character life. The Asian girl had a really enjoyable story arc which tied in heavily with the main character, and the actress was a perfect fit for her character as well. The other major characters were all annoyingly one-dimensional but that's understandable for a pilot. I think the show had a lot of promise on the strength of its premise and the quality writing and acting talent involved and it should've been picked up.
Honestly I thought it was pretty good, especially for a pilot. Way better than any of the other shows fox greenlit that year. Would've definitely watched more!

Didn't know that Rivers had a show in the works. Read the script, there are some weird autism and gender jokes and the stalker could have just as easily been written out and it would have been for the better, but it's pretty strong. The lead would have to be super charismatic though, he would have had to carry the show. Great episode, great channel, thanks for sharing!

This is a great video, but I do not agree with you when you say that this serie would not be welcomed by those people in their thirties who still miss their college years. I'm one of them and I would have loved to see this TV serie. I have also been a Weezer's fan for as long as I can remember.
