Conan O'Brien & Co. just keeps getting better and better. God bless this podcast! I feel like they're just as ambitious as before but now they have even more creative freedom. Conan is ultimately very down to earth guy who is honest to himself and others around him. That is his legacy and why people keep showing up. Already waiting for the book!
Conan. You are the best. Hands down. I became a fan later than most….was always watching Letterman growing up because my Mom preferred CBS over the other MSM channels. So I’m a huge Letterman fan. But I’m an even bigger Conan fan now. Keep doing whatever it is you do because you get better and better.
I've really been digging these Cuomo clips and I can't wait to hear the full episode. I'm not always keen on listening to celebs (Conan doesn't count) but Cuomo is just so down to Earth and prolific.
The key to Weezer was the contrast between Cuomo and Matt Sharp, and also having three guys who can sing and have different style voices, beatles-esque. After Sharp left the group of course they still had some hits, but If he had stayed they would of entered an even higher musical stratosphere. Brian Bell- Harrison, Cuomo-Mccartney, Sharp-Lennon. Not saying they were as good as the Beatles, but I think their roles were as such.
I see this as the Conan Obrien show. And I like it better, because he can do whatever he wants, and not have to worry about censoring, because he is at a place where he has a loyal audience that will support.
I know the secret... it's me! I mean, of course it's not me, but literally the first 5 albums I ever bought as a teen coming of age in the early 90's were all debut albums, and somehow all of those groups are still together in 2022, they've been consistently releasing music the entire time, and they're all massively successful major headliners. 1) Radiohead - Pablo Honey 2) Weezer's Blue Album 3) Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters 4) Korn - Korn 5) Deftones - Adrenaline Honorable Mention: #7 was QOTSA's debut, Rated R
You put it in hindsight man. I don't see Weezer as a band with longevity because music quality has been shaky since the 90s but now that I think of it... so there has been many bands who broken up, on indefinite hiatus, or just moved on with their lives since then...god...
The band hasn't put out anything as a whole worth anyone's time since 2002. They're not a good band anymore and they haven't been a good band since the 90's. Maladroit is probably the last record they did with even a shred of interesting work to it. Rivers was a good songwriter for a time but it changed. Life changes people. Glad he's gotten happier over time but to say that Weezer was the same band after the 90's would be false. Rivers chopped a lot of good musicians over the years to satisfy his ego and maintain control. Not a good person during their heyday.
@@sspah6870 You should read some of the heavily buried news articles and magazine clippings about the band from the mid to late 90's. Not much good to say about Rivers there.
From the BBC here is a show idea. It fall in 2 of the three of your hosts wheelhouse. The 5th October 1962 was a big bang moment for modern British culture. John Higgs takes Spencer Mizen back to the momentous day when the Beatles’ first single, Love Me Do, was released and the first James Bond film, Dr No, debuted in British cinemas, to explore what the meteoric rise of these two cultural giants reveals about Britain in the early 1960s. (Ad) John Higgs is the author of Love and Let Die: Bond, the Beatles and the British Psyche (Orion, 2022).
I love Conan, he look like he just rolled out of bed and sat down and started the podcast,he was like" f@#k combing my hair I'm a national treasure" 😂😂
Love Conan’s take on getting older. Yeah, it kinda sucks, youth is too fleeting. But life is too short, anyway, to cut it shorter still. I love a cool fall day after a long sweaty summer. And a cuddly cat. The little things 😁
There was a time in the very late 90’s where Weezer seemed like one of those bands that faded away and their days were over. Then they came out with the Green album in 2000 or 2001. Not only was I surprised they put out that album, I was surprised it was on MTV and also surprised it was selling okay. Not because they weren’t good but because I thought no one cared about them anymore. I was wrong.
David Geffen looked upon Rivers Cuomo and said unto thee, "bring me a song that even someone who looks like you can make a hit.." And Rivers has been pretty much doing that here and there with Weezer for 30 years.
It sounds like Rivers shared the secret to Conan's longevity. Conan sweetie, when you ask a question, let the other person finish talking before you unleash your me me me blabalanche .
for decades now, I haven't had kids in the car telling me what station to listen to so I've missed out on lots of music. I know Metallica but I don't know Weezer.
2000 was over 20 years ago though. They’ve been consistently putting out new music since then. Yeah, they’ve taken some hiatuses but if a band that put out their first album in 1994 and is still putting out new music isn’t longevity, I don’t know what is. Lots of bands go through rough patches, break up and reform. If you can manage to stay together and sustain for this long after all that, it’s called longevity. The fact that their old albums still resonate with people and are revered and acclaimed is longevity.
Just thought I'd mention that not every man sees a massive drop in Testosterone with age, that is highly individual. There are men who have almost the same T levels when they're 70 as when they were 25.
Same with the red hot chili peppers. They've been successful because of the business stuff for so long, no one has been telling them "no, that sucks", so they've kept on sucking since one hot minute.
I can answer for Rivers: We release a ton of music, half of which is laughably bad, but our popular songs from the '90s are enough to keep people paying attention.
Look, I agree with both of you, some albums and songs are good, but I meant it in general, now it just seems like they're doing very basic and boring music since 2016 (except OK human), with just a few pretty good songs
It's an interesting situation that you kind of have to reframe if you want to stay positive about the good stuff. Which IS worth it. There's 2-3 hours of Weezer music that I absolutely love. That's 2-3 hours more than 99% of other bands I've heard in my life.
