northern Malaysian traditional music is pretty similar to Thai music with even the same instruments- gong, gulingtangan, gangsa and seruling

Yes! They chose rongngeng music from the very southern part of Thailand, which is ethnically and culturally more similar to Malaysia. This music style in particular is a mixture of Malay, Arabic, and Portuguese (and possibly West African) influences.

I was in the US Air Force, stationed in Thailand from 1970-76. My experience with those liquors was after we used all the booze on our ration cards, we'd buy liquor downtown. Got to love (and miss) Mekhong, Singha, and some other intoxicants that weren't mentioned here. BTW, a friend of mine tried to eat some of the green peppers raw, and it put him in the hospital.

In Thai, the part that makes the "ha" sound has a silent marker over it.
Also, I've lived in Thailand for over 10 years, but have never had Sabai Sabai. Don't really remember seeing it out there either, but that doesn't mean anything either. But never really heard or seen my Thai friends talking about or drinking it.

I lived in Thailand over the summer and I didn't seee Sabai Sabai either so I was super confused. I cringed a little as they were saying singHa instead of Sing.
+Brian O'Dwyer Singha is a Sanskrit word originally (meaning lion), so it has silent letters that aren't pronounced in Thai, but the letters are still included when the word is anglicized. So "sing" is the correct pronunciation in Thai, but no one is going to be angry if you say "Singha"!

actual tip from a local Thai living in Bangkok where most drinking is done locals and expats alike, Siingha Beer, for daytime and summer nights, light taste, not so heavy good for chill hot days and nights, Chang Beer, more popular among foreign expats living in Bangkok, Chan is for when you need to get drunk fast but to dirt poor for hard liquor

We don't drink Sang Som in shots.....(some people do it but it's not really popular). How we properly drink it in Thailand is that we pour some of it in a glass with ice then pour soda water, yep, soda water. Or mix it with Coca-Cola or Pepsi. PS. The method with Coca-Cola or Pepsi involved is REALLY popular for middleschoolers and highschoolers.

I love Mekong whiskey with Singha chasers! The rum was so-so. You should've tried Leaping Deer whiskey(?) -- more like moonshine. For my 21st birthday, my girlfriend got me some home made rice wine that put my you-know-what right in the dirt.
