+Rory O'Donnell It's a culture thing. You can have sushi from Tesco, but it will never taste the same as sushi prepared by a true Japanese chef from Japanese ingredients.
+Nature's_ Memories It's a different taste defined by your culture. I lived in Poland for years and I love the food, always full and rich in taste. Then I moved to the UK and it was a massive taste shift for me; the pork had no fat, the seasoning was flat and after eating spaghetti bolognese from a can I gave up on ready canned food (no offence on British cuisine). Then, after a year or so my taste buds adapted to the different taste and I fell in love with traditional British dishes such as pasties, coronation chicken, coleslaw and mango chutney. The same would happen to you if you travelled to USA and tried their food. You'd probably find it too greasy.
Why do people think eating snails is fancy or expensive? just go outside after rain and pick some! I'm french and our food is less fancy than people think. Haute cuisine just make it look beautiful. I wish they would be more normal french restaurant around the world. I found one in the USA with a part of quiche for 14$! It's a bit like having mac&cheese for 14$.... ridiculous.
+Siljazzable That's not the Finnish name I think. Here in sweden it's lutfisk. And I don't blame them for dissing it. I've never had lutfisk I've enjoyed.
Snails are delicious and I will fight everybody that says otherwise. The whole "you grow up with money" is also out of place because snails are pretty cheap.
***** ill go to the supermarket in a few days and i'll check out how much it is for like 1kg of snails. But we can find them pretty much anywhere in france... freaking french people, they weird me out.
2:42 sorry nobody will see this but what she said pissed me off SO MUCH!! I’m not Scottish and have never had haggis but do not dare say it’s disrespectful to eat the whole animal! Same thing indigenous did and still do in Canada. They are respectful with animals they kill and do not waste anything!!
@@solwen theoretically the rest of the animal (stomach, bones, heart, liver, etc.) that most humans won't eat get processed into dog and cat food, so nothing gets to waste and companies can get the highest profit out of it, even with "garbage"
@@michelleramos8402 Think harder, it's based around the animal's body parts. It's about their usefulness with their entire bodies and how they can be used for their benefits. Respect has nothing to do with killing. It's called survival.
"You have the best healthcare in the world and you eat this?" Anyone gonna inform her that most people don't eat these any more outside of traditional purposes and that Europe has a history longer than 300 years or shall I?

Bizarre food!? U mean proper food?! Devouring the Ridiculously fatty Donut and drinking ur weekly sugar allowance in a can of coca Cola is what the rest of the world call bizarre!
Its bizarre because americans aren't used to it. Like if a european ate a south american dish, they may think its bizarre because they aren't used to it
yeah yeah, they don´t know what real food is, because they always put all that spicy hot things on anything they eat, at the end it´s so spicy hot the cannot really taste what they are eating, and maybe that´s the reason the over spice their food, because probably would be disgusting...
Escargots or snails aren't only eaten in France. They're very typical in Spain, but in Spain they're cooked in a very simple way, so everyone can have them
Do Americans actually have a food culture? Every European country has their own 'bizarre' food and most of them are really good if you prepare them the right way
+Nicholas Cannaday it comes from pretty old times, they tried every trick to make the fish meat stay edible due to not having salt or any good ways to preserve it. this made surströmming (much much worse than lutefisk) and warious other fish dishes invented.
Lutefisk is the best thing in the world! first when i had it i was 2 years old so it is normal for me!.....Mmmmm! fish in sope!...... (sounds strange...taste good)
+Nicholas Cannaday as deathofpreyor said, It's cause atleast in sweden you had no way to preserve food, so when winter came you wanted to stock up as much food as possible and all the luxury food (like fish) you wanted to eat at christmas, Meaning you had to use ways to make it edible in christmas
Gizmos Monster I‘m sorry for american people having a president who tries to take the last kind of medical help. Obama care helps the poor.. But please, don‘t ever say, something like this.. This is not nice and makes a really bad impression of american people.. Different places different habits.
Let me start of by saying. Not a fan of Lutfisk. But to be fair.. That is NOT how it is eaten and served. And if the consistency is like Jello. It has been prepared wrong. You constantly see videos of people trying foods from different parts of the world and dissing them straight up. When maybe they wouldn’t have if they were served authentically...
If you see the introduction, you see the fish dipped in the bowl. The bowl was on the table, but apparently NO ONE told them that the fish had to go in the bowl before eating. its really just made for them to fail at times - or the people eating are complete morons that didn't think to combine the only two visible parts on the table....
@@zorgo12 even with the bowl sauce, that is not how lutfisk is served. It's also supposed to be soaked to get the lye out before it is cooked. In Sweden it is traditionally served with coarse mustard, bechamelle sauce, and peas
+AlphaPanda Omg I JUST told my boyfriend that exact thing... The food they are trying here is so healthy and natural and they just go home and put a pop tart in the toaster...
These foods aren't bizarre. In Europe, these foods are normal, a normal thing to those who live there. However, Some be people be like, "EW SNAILS!? GROSS! EUROPEAN FOOD IS DISGUSTING!" It's not to them. Everyone has different tastes. People have different customs around the world. Foods, religions, customs, everything! Calling these things "bizarre "would be an insult since their use to that kind of thing and you're not. :)
A lot of Americans act like that, they think their food is the "normal" food of the world and they usually eat all junk and processed, burgers, hot dogs, fries and twinkies :/
While looking at that, I'm feeling like I'm really a french stereotype; -escargots are basically my Life -I eat cheese with baguette everyday -my everyday makeup is a red lipstick Oh well, I do am one lmao
+Rúben Luso Sou Portuguesa e ODEIO caracoís. Que nojo!! Gross. Mas no Verão os meu amigos adoram comer caracois com uma boa cerveja. Eles comem isso, e eu como amendoins ou tremoços haha
Lutefisk is a Norwegian (and, unless this video is completely wrong about it, Swedish) traditional christmas dish. It literally means lye fish and is usually served with a variety of stuff, usually including bacon, mashed peas and butter, to give it any semblance of palatable taste and consistency. As you probably can tell, I am not personally a fan of the dish, which makes it fortunate that there are at least 4 different traditional christmas foods in Norway and my family does not have Lutefisk on christmas. As for Finland... well, I presume at least some of the Finnoswedes have brought along their lye and their fish, whether or not the dish has spread to the rest of the country.
MinorCirrus I love the German blood sausage, but there's this one type I can't _stand_ 'cause the texture's too dry for my taste (my mom loves it, though). I know it's from a Spanish-speaking South American country, but I can't for the life of me remember which..... -_-;;;;;
+PaddySnuffles in my country, Vietnam, we have blood as it was shaped in a cube-like, or it's exactly the same in the video, and we call it "Doi Truong" (pig's gut) or "Huyet" (blood, simply).
In Mexico we have this thing I forgot what it's called but you take fresh chicken blood, boil it or sauté it with some onion and jalapeños. I've never tried it myself but it's supposedly really good
+Abhineet Soren snails yes, (not that bad actually though the snails themselves are rather tasteless the garlic butter gives the taste) haggis, never tried, but typical Scottish. blood sausage was very typical in Germany (it was mostly eaten by poor people) fish cooked in NaOH? never heard and don´t wanna try. though i know NaOH is used in Brezels as well. (well everyone in germany knows that. before baking NaOH ist put on the Brezels surface. its the reason for the typical brown color of Brezels)
I found this on the wikipedia page for lutfisk: *"If the lutfisk is not cooked right it gets a strange, transparent glow and a wobbly texture. The main reason why many don't like lutfisk is be that they have been served badly cooked fish, which therefore has a jelly-like consistency."* so you guys definitely did it wrong ...
***** Surströmming is known as a Swedish delicacy. I have myself never eaten or smelled an open can of it. Apparently you have to open the can of the fermented fish under water or the smell will be so bad you more or less will be sick to your stomach. It is often eaten in very small portion sizes at a time, and is served on knäckebröd (hard bread) with sliced fresh potatoes, sour cream and red onions to accompany it. If you can just get by the smell, many people state that it is quite delicious. (The smell is so potent though. One person once opened a can in his apartment and the whole building was evacuated because people thought there was a gas leak. He was evicted and had to pay for sanitation.)
Buzzfeed made one like this, weird things americans eat. I was thinking "well americans eat weird food too" but no. you really cant compare eating heart, lungs, and liver in a single dish, to eating pickles in kool-aid. So yes, pretty much fast food. america isnt classy like some parts of europe sadly.
Norwegian here, just have to say that Lutefisk is my favorite food and I eat it every year at christmas❤️ but if you just eat the fish it’s not that good. Serve it with potatoes, bacon, mashed peas, some bacon grease over the whole thing, top it of with salt and pepper and it’s amazing!!
Well, it's strange to Americans who didn't grow up with those traditions, just like many people find it weird that medication is often advertised on American TV.
It's American hypocrisy, they think eating american junk sh*t is chic and refined to be making these weird cringy faces and reactions when seeing foreign foods.
Well, what is "bizarre" is subjective and depends on what you are accustomed to or have become desensitized to. For example, It is really hard for me, personally, to see eating an organ that has pumped blood and given life to another being as being, "cultured." If my preference makes me "uncultured" then I'm very uncultured.
Not many like it here in Finland either. Plus its a food you only eat once a year (on Christmas) and I think it shoulve been clarified here. We never eat it tho lol.
Well it depends on the fish, walleye is pretty good, so is salmon and a numerous number of other fish, I am American and yes there may be a lot of fast food, but most people eat it every so often and limit it, there isn't really a culture for our food seeing how there is people from all around the world in America, but there is small things like cheese curds and jo-Jo's and we just aren't used to your cultures food
In Palermo we boil snails and then add olive oil, garlic and parsley. We eat them especially on july for Saint Rosalia. They are delicious! Big snails are done with sauce too.
George Bird Lung (like eating lung) is banned in the USA, I think it's cause there's a chance of catching some rare diseases. Meats from the UK are also banned, since the whole mad cow disease thing. That's why the haggis they're eating is in that pastry puff, it's only technically haggis tbh.
+Tropical Pablo you tend to drink red wine with with red meats like steak where as white wine typically goes with seafoods and rosé just goes with most other things especially in the summer ps I'm french
Why are Americans so squeamish about organ meats? They ate it 50 years ago. I don't see how eating the organs is more gross than eating the muscle of the animal. Besides, if you kill an animal you should eat all if it, not just pick and choose which parts you want to eat. What a waste of food.
mastersnet18 Eh I wish I could give you a good reason why we Americans are turning away from organ meat but I really can't. Well other than the fact that some of us just seem to be picky fools though their is still some of us who like such stuff.
mastersnet18 i kinda agree, i rather admire the fact europeans and asians make use of a whole animal and have less wastage. I dont like organ meat (but i avoid meat in general). But i believe wasting meat makes killing an animal a pointless and cruel excercise. do it for food, just dont waste
mastersnet18 Come on, it's not as your typical European is all worldly about food, they would be exactly like the people in the video. Pick a country's most weird dish, and it will seem like that country was cultural about food even if it has a sad food tradition (which my country Norway does despite lutefisk).
European countries: Austria Switzerland Germany Czechia Slovakia Poland Italy Slovenia Serbia Croatia Malta Ukraine Lithuania Estonia Finland Sweden Norway Netherlands The Uk Ireland Belgium Luxembourg France Spain Portugal San Marino Turkey Cyprus Greece Romania Hungary Give me a break, I did this off the top of my head, and I’m not even from Europe. I know I’m forgetting a bunch of countries near Romania and Croatia, but it was from the top of my head. e: Bosnia, Russia (sort of), Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Moldovia :) thank you!
@@_Ferko Yeah I agree lol, not tryna shame anyone. My bad. Idk, I guess I think geography is an important subject to know about, especially its correlation to current affairs. But I wouldn't expect people to know all the provinces in Canada or regions in every country, lol that's a little excessive. Maybe just at least 70% of the countries names and roughly where they are. Or bare minimum the continents.
@@_Ferko Speaking as an European - I don't agree that it does neccessarily always go both ways, at least not in the same proportions. World geography test where you had to name every country on the world map and write down its capital city was something that high school students in my central european country customarily had on their freshmen year in the mid 2010s. Basic knoweldge of every region of the world&location of at least the most prominent countries was something we've been also usually taught. Most people know where the best known US states like CA, TX, FL or Alaska are, and when they might be not sure what's the exact location of the rest, they are able to at least point out the region (we're rather familiar with terms like New England, Bible Belt and so on). A the schooling system over here ain't even in the top of the European ones.
it's hilarious to see them reacting to snail cuz it' s actually delicious, in Morocco we have it as street food and it's available throughout the year ! .....and now i want a bowl of escargot (that costs only 0.5 $) :)
Why are so many European people in the comments so butt-hurt??? I'm a European myself and I found this video pretty funny. Not every single American is a "privileged asshole". They just have a very different culture and they've never seen that kind of food before, that's all. No reason to hate on them and be so disrespectful. Please, show the better part of yourself instead of acting like it's your job to be offended. You are from Europe god-dammit, you know, that place with culture and class and stuff... Act like it!
Megan VanDoren But still. Compare the like/dislike ratio from this video to a video where people try (and lightly criticize) american stuff. I don't see a lot of people from european countries complaining to be honest.
Jaap Fiets Maybe Americans are just more vocal about what they like or dislike lol, I don't know. Americans have been known to be a very openly opinionated people :P
Megan VanDoren Where I'm from people are very vocal and opinonated too. I think Americans are a bit easier offended, especially when you say something personal. Wheras people from "western" europe (Sweden, Holland and especially the UK) are more sarcastic, "raw" and cynical (wich is not always a good thing). Light/easy comedy here is always called "American comedy" because people here have the stereotype that Americans don't understand or get complicated and sarcastic comedy. But it's just what you grew up with. An other thing is that "you americans" LOL always talk about "Europeans" like it's one country. There couldn't be more differences between Italy and Germany for instances despite being so close to eachother. It's like comparing people from Brazil and Japan, a lot of differences. Maybe we are more "cultured" (whatever that means), we're definitely not the same.
Black pudding is "boudin noir" in France and it's not a particularly strange food, you eat a lot of blood if you eat meat by the way. As for the haggis, most people react to the presence of liver, heart, etc... but come on, do people think all these parts are dumped when killing an animal ? When you buy sausages in a supermarket you can't think they take only the steaks and mix it ... And it is the same in the US : they don't waste any bit of it
Snails is a farmer meal , familys used to take a day to pick them up and and it take time to salt them , clean them and prepare them but its really good . Never eat raw snails
wonderr The whole world including Europe tend to classify themselves as one governing body, since the creaton of the EU. The countries are all in relative proximity to each other, with the European major being smaller than USA.
I tried haggis when I was in Scotland a few years back. These people are overreacting af, it literally tastes like cooked seasoned ground meat. If I wouldn´t have known what it is, I wouldn´t have noticed it at all in a dish.
As someone who grew up in Sweden, i've never understood why americans are so stingy about blood-food. It's not that bad once you get used to it. With that said though, lutfisk, that's how you spell it, is vile and i hate it.
+Dark Dragonborn unfortunately here in duuuhh-merica many of us think everything foreign is bad by default, just because: " USA!....USA!...USA!" idiots
+Mattias Djärv i know part of it is that in warmer climates, like some of the US and a lot of the places that americans have immigrated from, you can't really keep blood around without it becoming a major health risk. That means that there aren't any traditional blood-foods from those areas and that eating blood/rare or uncooked meat is associated with sickness.
Mämmi isn't even that bad. I cannot eat too much of it but a small amount with some liquid cream or milk is not bad at all...maybe an acquired taste but not bad.
exactly. Also i love how they love screaming about racial stereotypes and cultural appropriation yet it's somehow okay to be disrespectful to the Europeans. Yikes.
Western people have a different palette, you see it in many different Asian, Italian, Spanish type foods served in America. People in different regions are different.. who would have thought.

Escargots or snails aren't only eaten in France. They're very typical in Spain, but in Spain they're cooked in a very simple way, so everyone can have them
In France too, it's only butter and petersilie.
Snails are very delicious. İ have tried them first time in Spain, if I'm not mistake they were just boiled with some species.

But the stuff still stinks up your car if you keep it in there!

Blood sausage is good but it varies a lot from culture to culture, so remember to not expect the same flavour (or even consistency). :)
PaddySnuffles French blood sausage is disgusting to me. And that comes from a French snail and frog eater. But to each their own, I suppose.
+MinorCirrus Frog legs so yummy !
MinorCirrus I love the German blood sausage, but there's this one type I can't _stand_ 'cause the texture's too dry for my taste (my mom loves it, though). I know it's from a Spanish-speaking South American country, but I can't for the life of me remember which..... -_-;;;;;
+PaddySnuffles in my country, Vietnam, we have blood as it was shaped in a cube-like, or it's exactly the same in the video, and we call it "Doi Truong" (pig's gut) or "Huyet" (blood, simply).
In Mexico we have this thing I forgot what it's called but you take fresh chicken blood, boil it or sauté it with some onion and jalapeños. I've never tried it myself but it's supposedly really good

Why no surströmming???

You are one of the few intelligent, non close minded, people that have commented here.
Megan VanDoren But still. Compare the like/dislike ratio from this video to a video where people try (and lightly criticize) american stuff. I don't see a lot of people from european countries complaining to be honest.
TheDragon Thank you! :3
Knowing a lot about the European culture I cried when curly yelled "COOKIES" at blood pudding like "you poor soul"
"I feel powerful cause I'm eating the heart of another animal" ahahahah that chick metal af
I'm Scottish so I eat black pudding and haggis all the time.
And it is the same in the US : they don't waste any bit of it
lol me too. and yes Scotland is f*cked up
I ❤️ haggis
+Billy Reynolds nope
+Edana Bookworm you from England I think

HOLO sexual t'a bien raison '^'
When you don't speak french but you can understand something - FUKIN FINALLY
The food isn't bizarre. Just that people have different views on it than other people.
LYE
Lutfisk is bizarre as hell for most people. Dont know anyone here who eats it.
Snails is a farmer meal , familys used to take a day to pick them up and and it take time to salt them , clean them and prepare them but its really good .
Never eat raw snails
just don't eat snails.
@Iberia 001 no. just no.
This is really a funny video. Thank you for sharing!
I hope no snails were harmed in the making of this video :(

Why do Americans make it seem like Europe is one country?
Because they are close-minded sheeps.
wonderr The whole world including Europe tend to classify themselves as one governing body, since the creaton of the EU. The countries are all in relative proximity to each other, with the European major being smaller than USA.
wonderr Why do Europeans like to make it seem that America is only the U.S?
wonderr Why do "Europeans" call the United States of America, "America" when America actually consists of Canada and Mexico as well?... hmmm?
wonderr They never said these dishes were from the same country, did they?
They mentioned the origins from every dish.
I tried haggis when I was in Scotland a few years back. These people are overreacting af, it literally tastes like cooked seasoned ground meat. If I wouldn´t have known what it is, I wouldn´t have noticed it at all in a dish.
do one where people try howtobasic"s food
kahlen brown That would give them food poisoning! He uses EXPIRED food!
kahlen brown maxmoefoe did a few vids where he ate howtobasics foods c:
Howtobasic himself is there as well (they obv dont show his face though)

"I wanted to know what death felt like.... under my tires" LMAO
As someone who grew up in Sweden, i've never understood why americans are so stingy about blood-food. It's not that bad once you get used to it.
With that said though, lutfisk, that's how you spell it, is vile and i hate it.
Mona123chicken I'm not very smart, i'll admit that.
Seriously tho, i just can't stand the wierd texture and slimyness.
Its cultural differences
+Dark Dragonborn
unfortunately here in duuuhh-merica many of us think everything foreign is bad by default,
just because: " USA!....USA!...USA!"
idiots
+nycholaus .. you're the only idiot here if you think all Americans are like that.
Where's "Mämmi" from Finland? :(
Drink Water Right on. It is super gross and my family is from Finland.
Mämmi isn't even that bad. I cannot eat too much of it but a small amount with some liquid cream or milk is not bad at all...maybe an acquired taste but not bad.
Se on torilla
*TORILLA TAVATAAN*
IKR
T Kendall You know whats gross? Your face
"Poor Scotland.."
i actually like Haggis :( I thought it was a myth that everyone hated it outside of our lovely wee country :(
The haggis they tasted didn't look right 😂
We don't hate Scotland, we just question your food choices lol!
Always wanted to try haggis
Yehudi Menuhin that was definitely not normal haggis. Also haggis is amazing and I'm not Scottish.
Hannah Sheeran I've wanted to tryh haggis for the longest time. It sounds delicious
It should be called “Snowflakes behave like 2 year olds when offered something different” 🤦🏻♂️
That would be almost every video with these americans. They have NEVER been out of their comfort zone before this video was filmed!
exactly. Also i love how they love screaming about racial stereotypes and cultural appropriation yet it's somehow okay to be disrespectful to the Europeans. Yikes.
I can take this comment in so many directions.
Count Dracula DO IT!
Western people have a different palette, you see it in many different Asian, Italian, Spanish type foods served in America. People in different regions are different.. who would have thought.
