Can I just say, here... I'm an American, and we have our own nasty alcohol. People need to stop getting so offended. I live in Germany now (in a small town, where I don't know any other Americans - just Germans), and there are plenty of things friends have brought back from vacations abroad that half of us say "hmm, that's OK" and the other half say "OH MY GOD are you trying to poison me!" It's not an "American" thing to try stuff from other countries and not like all of it. BuzzFeed is supposed to be FUNNY. They are purposely choosing the alcohols that are the most likely to evoke a strong, funny reaction.
Its that in these videos everyone they pick is really effeminate and camp, and then they bitch and say its disgusting, rather than saying it's not for me.
Stefan8u Really? If something tastes disgusting to you, and you're shooting a humorous video - how humorous is it to look at the camera and say "Hm, not for me. But I respect this drink and I'm sure some other people like it. Maybe this is something I'm just not used to because of my culture, or maybe I would never enjoy it because of my personal palate." The videos thrive on first impressions, dorky humor, a good dose of hyperbole, and deadpan. The statement above is implied, but it's not their job to add a disclaimer in every episode to soothe everyone's sweet feelings. If you want to watch a down-the-line mini-documentary on international food and drink, BuzzFeed is not your source. Did you miss the videos in which BuzzFeed gleefully slags _our own food_ (such as Southern or Midwestern food)? Or were you blinded by all of the 'effeminate and camp' people? >_>
yeah lol, funny thing is that me and my friends just finished watching this video whiel wer at a pub in my city and basically pissed drunk right now lol. I'm not as drunk as my friends due to eating a quite a lot before drinking but still enough to be close
I LOVE BECHEROVKA. I had some in Prague and brought home two bottles. So good but I think it's because I enjoy spice, clove, mint, etc... It's really nice on the rocks or with ginger ale.
well i live in the city of becherovka , and to say it tastes like earwax? lol you can taste many herbs in it, it is a little bitter and kinda sweet,am i right? It is beter in coctails tho, mainly - becherovka over ice, add tonic, add lemon cheers!

Al-Kuhl is the Arabic word from which alcohol is derived. In its Arabic translation Al-Kuhl means: Body-Eating Spirit. When we consume high amounts of alcohol we are in effect, extracting the soul essence out of our body.
I just came back from Seattle (I'm from Vancouver, Canada). I have to say, your beer down there is so goddamn watery! It's like drinking light beer flavoured soda water!
amarula is a signature south african liqueur but if you really want to try a unique traditional south african liqueur you should try Mapoer/ witblits. It's primarily made by farmers using the leftover or windblown fruit of the season, which they ferment to create something that is almost like italian Graca, but much stronger. the name afrikaans name "Witblits" literrally translates to english as white lightning. If you had a white grandpa or uncle living on a farm somewhere in south africa, chances would be he had a basic witblits distillery somewhere in his barn. (its basically moonshine but very, very strong. My grandparents used to test the level of alcohol by pouring some on a dessert spoon and lighting it uo to see how much water is left after the alcohol burns up. most of the time its not much)
There is a very limited market for slivovitz in the US. I don't know about LA where they probably tested these, but in the Chicago/Northwest Indiana market it is very common. They probably don't even know it exists, but I can go to a couple different stores and find the Czech, Bosnian, Serbian, Bulgarian, and Romanian kinds.
Jordan Schmidt I'm sorry if you feel offended but its nothing more than mere truth, I'm sure not every American is this way but from the vast majority of videos online and as you can see from this video, it's undoubtedly an observation that can't be failed to pick up.
They should try Swiss Abricotine or Williamine (from Valais), Italian Limoncello and German Jägermeister. All amazing drinks (my favourite being Williamine)
Bastiwen limocello is for children, but I totally agree with the Williamine, my grandfather used to do his own williams pear moonshine; 30 years after, it still tastes and smells amazing, especially in a trou Bressan. I would also add the calvados, for there trou Normand.
The South African drink had macula fruit in it, I hadn't heard of it until I bought some macula oil (from the same plant) as a face moisturizer. Apparently macula oil is very healthy and lot of different uses. haha
Amarula is so popular in Brazil, and I never even wondered where it's from, glad to know. The bottle is so familiar to me I was surprised they didn't know what it was. It's one of my favorite drinks.
I'm from South Africa and I've been drinking Amarula since I was 4 years old, it's literally my life - we used to mix it with milk for me until I turned 14 (when I actually started drinking with my parents). Amarula is like Ice Cream, it's THAT Dessert
I have actually tried salmiakki liquor once, it tastes like really salty black licourice, and is strong as f**k, on the other hand another finnish liquor is minntu, equally strong as salmiakki but almost worse to drink cuz of the cooling effect of mint/peppermint... both are quite tasty imo, but handle with caution... on the other hand I've also tried amarula, not to my tastes, thank god for Irish cream liquor like Baileys, now that's DELISH!!!!!!
Whenever I take the ferry to Finland and back, I always make sure to buy some Salmiakki. Not the overly sweet one in the video tho but still from Koskenkorva. So good.
+TheFindingLight I think they didn't try this one, because Slijvovica doesn't "belong" to one country, but is made by basically all countries in East and Central Europe. Just imagine these endless wars in the comment section, where people would be arguing with each other about origins of this drink. xD
I once tried american beer and it tasted like water.
Was it Miller/PBR/Keystone/Coors/Budlight? We don't like the mainstream beers either. We like our craft beers.
America doesn't make anything good.( shit cars, shit food, shit chocolates and sweets, shit bacon)

everclear? idk what the origins of that are...
Oh yes Mampoer!! I wonder what they would make of that, Briliant Idea. they would probably be knocked unconscious by it LOL
Ayy, fellow South African!
*highfive*
As usual... Amurula wins... anyone who comes to South Africa get you some murula fruits... addictive
That's the truth
I had it in tanzania... yummm

GreysALIASAnatomy Are you talking about the guy singing at the end? His name is Keith and he has a channel called the Try Guys with his friends, you should check it out ☺
As a South African, I got such a stupid smile when I saw Amarula. Best thing ever!
As a Namibian I felt the same.
same!
Tried it because of this video and now I drink it all the time
I've watched this a hundred times only for the final song.
Cristobal Moreno Jodar-Méca OH MY GOD YES LOL
Same! I enjoyed that ending song!

most finnish people actually hate it
Ella Linna Actually no, they love it.
i love it and I'm from sweden
Anise liqueurs just aren't that popular in the US.
I already know I'd hate it without even trying it because I hate anise/licorice flavored anything

I think it's a northern thing. I love it, but I'm norwegian.

Don't be a hater, dear. It's just a cultural thing, since a lot of people from nordic countries like the salmiakki taste.
Well, real licorice is one of those "like it or hate it" sort of foods, and most people I know here in the States don't really like it. I don't know how often licorice is used in Finnish cuisine, but I'm assuming that it's enough for the people to be well accustomed to the taste. :)

amarula is a signature south african liqueur but if you really want to try a unique traditional south african liqueur you should try Mapoer/ witblits. My grandparents used to test the level of alcohol by pouring some on a dessert spoon and lighting it uo to see how much water is left after the alcohol burns up. most of the time its not much)
about amarula... that a elephant in the label, that its because elephants get drunk eating that fruit!
isnt it written on the bottle tho?
where is sljivovica ?
Ja to isto sebe pitam!
+Ivan Tasic travarca?
In Slovakia
kakva Slovakia srbija bre
There is a very limited market for slivovitz in the US. I don't know about LA where they probably tested these, but in the Chicago/Northwest Indiana market it is very common. They probably don't even know it exists, but I can go to a couple different stores and find the Czech, Bosnian, Serbian, Bulgarian, and Romanian kinds.
I want to work for BuzzFeed :/
***** I shouldn't be responding to such immature comments. But here you go, you're a bimbo, grow up.

Suggestions: Sake from Japan, Caipirinha from Brazil and Aguardiente from Colombia
*cachaça from Brazil
Even better, Catuaba from Brazil.
Caipirinha is a drink made from Cachaça.
peacendpola23 Aguardiente is GREAT! It would be awesome to see them do it!
peacendpola23 caipirinha is the best
I recommend try Amarula on Ice you be like "where have you been all my life?".
I just love watching Ella’s overreaction to anything she drinks or eats 😂😂😂😂
He pronounced "gammel dansk" pretty well :D good job !
I find very amusing seeing americans who drink wine out of a box and cheap plastic bottle vodka criticizing what other countries enjoy drinking...
Someone's jealous
Jordan Schmidt Yeah, jealous... That''s what I am...
Americans criticise everything non-American. It's just very American of them.
Jordan Schmidt I'm sorry if you feel offended but its nothing more than mere truth, I'm sure not every American is this way but from the vast majority of videos online and as you can see from this video, it's undoubtedly an observation that can't be failed to pick up.
Semara Simu Shahin we're not all like that, promise :)
Auto Math Yeah limoncello is really sweet and nearly a soda, but it's sooo good :P And yes, definitely calvados, my grand-father also like it.
Auto Math limoncello is 30% alcohol...
still tastes like candy.
Bastiwen hey swiss guy... say Unicium... best swiss thing I've had ^_^
The South African drink had macula fruit in it, I hadn't heard of it until I bought some macula oil (from the same plant) as a face moisturizer. Apparently macula oil is very healthy and lot of different uses. haha
How did you get the name wrong three times in one comment, especially seeing the bottle of cream as often as you must have?
You need to try pisco from chile, its really good! Especially pisco sour or regular pisco mixed with coke.
you mean pisco from Peru ;)
No, from chile ;)
pisco in a shot is awful
fics07 Because you don't drink it in a shot.
You mean Lima? It is wide known in international restaurants here
Ahhhhh!!! They liked our Amarula!! Why does this make me feel so proud?! XD
amarula is the best, one of my fav drinks for sure
Amarula is so popular in Brazil, and I never even wondered where it's from, glad to know. The bottle is so familiar to me I was surprised they didn't know what it was. It's one of my favorite drinks.
I'm from czech and they really didnt got the pronunciation :D Becherovka not Beterotka, glad to see it there :D
Do more of these please.
Salmiakkikoskenkorva is actually really good
I'm from South Africa and I've been drinking Amarula since I was 4 years old, it's literally my life - we used to mix it with milk for me until I turned 14 (when I actually started drinking with my parents). Amarula is like Ice Cream, it's THAT Dessert
Keith's song at the end 10/10
I have actually tried salmiakki liquor once, it tastes like really salty black licourice, and is strong as f**k, on the other hand another finnish liquor is minntu, equally strong as salmiakki but almost worse to drink cuz of the cooling effect of mint/peppermint... both are quite tasty imo, but handle with caution...
on the other hand I've also tried amarula, not to my tastes, thank god for Irish cream liquor like Baileys, now that's DELISH!!!!!!
I would if I had any, but it's a little too strong for me as well...
StephanieMorelli minttu*
***** ***minttu
salmiakki is my favourite shot!! it's sweet and a lot easier to get down than like tequila or rum or regular vodka
i love salmiakki koskenkorva
Lmaooo Keith is easily my favorite buzzfeed person
I'm just cringing at the hypocritical anti-American comments...
lmao me too
Best part: the ending song
That will be my ringtone
You'll win an award in 2008
Sarah: "Adam, dont drink this if you´re pregnant."
Adam: " O_O!! "
Whenever I take the ferry to Finland and back, I always make sure to buy some Salmiakki. Not the overly sweet one in the video tho but still from Koskenkorva. So good.
I think this the only episode where Adam talk more than 4 words.. Best day of my fking life😀😁.
How is there no Aquavit? One of the most popular drinks all over Scandinavia...
"looks like its french, so its probably shit"
that make my day !👍✌️:D
Lol, right??
Right, because everything in France tastes so bad right ? that"s probably why our gastronomy is now designated at Unesco world immaterial heritage.
^ We found the french
She doesn't say "shit" she said "get" because in france it's pronounced "jet" ;)
Nice try dumbass but she said "geet" cause in french, "get" pronounced "jet"
Buzzfeed’s golden era
They should have tried some Sljivovica!!!
TheFindingLight ^ I 100% agree
TheFindingLight than you should standarize production so there isn't so much random bad ones.
uh? what? that makes no sense
+TheFindingLight I think they didn't try this one, because Slijvovica doesn't "belong" to one country, but is made by basically all countries in East and Central Europe.
Just imagine these endless wars in the comment section, where people would be arguing with each other about origins of this drink. xD
Fove Miran hahaha this is very true!!!!
Suomi Mainittu! Torilla Tavataan!!
Ehkä salmari on vaa suomalaisten juttu....?
Eipä tuo taida olla kovin suosittua maailmalla.
English comment passing through
Tuon mämmiä!
On se vaan kiva, kun Suomikin pääsee näihin videoihin. Vaikkakin vain salmiakin avulla. :p
lmao that song at the end tho😂😂😂😂😂
Would love to see these guys try Laphroaig Quarter cask or a Caol Ila. And top it off with some norwegian akevitt.
Salmiakki is soooo good!!!! I live in finland! Salmari juodaan vikisemättä SAATANA!!!!!
I want to see them trying Vinho do Porto from Portugal.

"Whatever it is, I just hope it doesn't give me the farts." 😂
Sipping amarula right now and decided to search this!
