I am currently 36 years old, but ever since I can remember I have always wanted to grow into a wise woman. I was even celebrating when I found my first grey hair telling everybody about it, haha. So to everybody out there thinking young people only care about their apperance and looks, that is simply not true! For me my core values and inner knowlegde has always been the most important thing 🙌🏻 I just simply LOVE growing on the inside 😁 And off course the inside is what I treasure most in other people too ✨🙏
Am with you 100%! I was looking at health issues being while a senior in high school - more heart/mind oriented after my brother passed in 2001 - when I was 37. I love that experience can turn to wisdom
Oh my word, they pay people like this to teach at Harvard?! So i can avoid (or maybe even heal) my severe arthritis by being mindful and manipulating my mind to try making myself more happy? This sounds a lot like the cult of "Christian Scientism." 😵💫🙄🙏
100%.@ 59 I've lost my husband ,my parents & a child. Although I grieve I dont stay in it. I've watched people stay in that horrible place after losing a loved one. It consumes their every thought. I often think this is the person who will be diagnosed w/cancer. Our bodies & minds weren't meant to stay in a constant state of distress.
I just turned 58. I lost my mom in my 20s. My husband at the age of 56. My dad five months after my husband died. A daughter that I have not seen in four years because I don’t agree with her. I have no family out here other than two children who live with me and need my help. For about eight years crisis after crisis, tragedy after tragedy has taken place and I am trying so hard to get out of this grieving state. My faith has helped me. Many people tell me they don’t understand how I’m doing as well as I am, but I have chronic pain. And like you said, I have known so many people to suffer and then get cancer. My younger sister has cancer right now. Bad prognosis. I have been trying to help her when she flies down for surgeries etc. I am going to send her this interview. I pray that you are comforted and that you are OK.
You are a beacon of light and strength. So sorry you have had these profound losses. Thank you for sharing your story. You are helping hundreds of people. ❤
@numbernine3436 wow.. you are amazing. And very good advice. I'm totally devastated. I'm as you mentioned the one who has been consumed in every thought. I caused anxiety, insomnia and depression. I wish I had you're strength. I'll try to think differently.
Yes, teach the young ones to think out of the box, go against the grain if curious. Teach them to organically question and know we don’t know. Love the 1 pile of potatoes plus 1 more pile = a pile of potatoes!! Kids love visuals!
For 17 years my husband and I have owned an animal rescue. He passed 18 months ago. I dont know how Id have made it without being licked in the face by 25 dogs! ( Not at the same time!!!) Their love and devotion gives me so much joy and they willingly endure my hugs and tears on their coats. NO one needs to be lonely while there are dogs on this earth!! We've placed over 500 cats/dogs in homes..and the life changing updates I get make it so worthwhile!!! LOVE is a four-legged word!!
Baby….. you ain’t kidding. I do rescue also. Animals, dogs , cats, still can’t believe how transformative they are. Only ones, sometimes, that can put a smile on my face .
Be Anxious For Nothing But By Prayer And Supplication With THANKSGIVING…….. great interview! 40 years in healthcare was never ill enough to call in sick. Went to serve others, kept me healthy and happy
Dr Ellen not only thinks outside the box, she kicks the box down the street! She opens minds through her enlightening teaching. Her wisdom will be passed on through time, to help and heal all who listen. She put in the time to uncover mysteries she feels shares with all of us. The time she saves you, is priceless. This is how you advance humanity and longevity.
Today is 37 yrs since i became a widowed mum of 2 babies aged 25. Today i honour the increedible journey of Self realization that Dr Langer is speaking of, i embody that which she speaks so elequently of..... from the importance of mindfulness in every day living, to not having ever had a bucket list, to singing in thestreet and non ttatchment to all the stuff....... hearing her speak to this further connects me to the confidence i have in being truly who i came here to be. The shadow and the light. Remembering my divine nature in all that i do , all that i BE and all the i AM. Thankyou for shring this remeberence. 🙏
In that case does creating our life means that we know what we're Creating? Because I'm assuming if we did know what we were creating, then we're certainly create the perfect life if we understood what that was!!! But I can't nearly say I purpose the life I have Now...your thoughts may help, thanks 😊
In my 40s I found myself in a very stressful situation.back injury stopped me working..Then no job family problems, court problems,I became very ill with cancer . Had to leave home and go into a home for ill people. Then few yrs later moved to a more independent place . I’m still not a hundred 100% well . But lack of stress and healthy eating, getting rest and enjoying family from the outside has helped . We humans need a lot of love and respect to survive.we need to give love and kindness to others as well as receive.Love this Dr . Full of wisdom.Psychology is very important it should be introduced in children and also sociology. So young people know how to stand up for themselves
@@edwardcopeland5069I think we need to know what’s important to us, for example- health, relationship, personal development, etc., and then we make decisions on how how we build our lives around those important items. If something does not add any value or becomes a detriment to what’s important to us, then we should not put any valuable resources (time, energy, money) into it. This has been my guiding principle, and I revisit my “what’s important to me” list every year.
I was blessed with a loving, wise mother and I’m seeing more n more, when I was a kid if I failed at anything games, tests etc she’d always say “well, that’s the way it is for now “ I used to get annoyed saying I want to win etc Well you might next time, she’d say and it’s more fun sometimes doing it She totally embraced uncertainty, I always felt very safe with her and nursed her when she was dying…. She believed all is always well it’s just how we see it, she was far from a Harvard graduate but soo wise ❤
Dr. Ellen Langer, a trailblazer in psychology, reveals how thoughts impact physical health. Her work reshapes understanding of mind-body connection beautifully.
Having a relationship with Heavenly Father, has been my greatest relationship in my life ❤️ and he has blessed me greatly in my life in way's l could of never imagined! Praying has helped me have the spirit of God in my life and this has helped me to be strong and stress free.

Negativity causes stress. By avoiding it, sickness,.aging,... name them would not be topics of discussion.Being positive makes us skip most of them. We remain strong, rarely fall sick, and keep looking younger for as long as necessary .
Besides her comment about meditation is reciting mantras and disconnecting from reality, I find this woman to be very wise. Thank you! This was a great gift when it was most needed.
I absolutely loved this....I believe so much of what she expressed....enjoying what you are doing...be present......just retired at 72...I do what makes me happy. It is the simple things in life that give me joy......learned a lot here.....this was my favorite video of yours and I watch all......thanks
Yes. I believe that stress caused by many illnesses. I’ve been diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, but prior to that I’m always in a constant stressed about work dealing with clients and I always have a headache and didn’t realize it’s a stress headache and almost killed me. Thanks for this knowledgeable video.
I learned to ask, how can so see this situation differently? Then sit and wait in the stillness. It will always come. The higher self knows all. Blessings!
I used to be like that. In case it blesses you, find a Sabbath-keeping 24-hour true rset (do no work, no shopping, visit Infirm, go to Sabbath-keeping home church or church and let it go and you will "press refresh button"
Love this entire interview and totally agree with everything. Once I looked at why the weight was there, I used my mind to release 100lbs in 13 months with ZERO diets or exercise and have now helped thousands around the world do the same with their weight and other ailments. Our minds are so freaking powerful even if people dont want to believe it.
I’ve been dealing with anxiety and panic disorder for 12 yrs… and the past few months have hit me hard. I also deal with health anxiety, so bodily symptoms trigger my anxiety attacks. I’m constantly thinking and waiting for things to happen. It’s horrible. The stress in my body is taking its toll. Nights and into the morning are the worst. I’m going to try her advice🙏🏼
Stay strong. Each time those thoughts come into your mind keep repeating "I am strong" Feel it it in your bones. Think about this. Your health related anxiety, according to you, started 12 years ago and there you are still living and searching for a solution. You are still here, alive. Thoughts have no strength unless you give them that power. Stay strong 💪
Go see a homeopathic doctor, anxiety and depression are apart of a poor diet like vitamin deficiencies! You can get help for this naturally, without drugs. In California we have a health food store called Clark's people in the industry shop there and are incredibly helpful. We need fuel for our bodies and if we are missing nutrients we can't run the way our bodies need to.
Our virtual and physical environments have wreaked so much havoc on us over the past four years. Holding entities and people connected to them accountable would reduce A LOT of stress.
I Love how Dr. Ellen Langer Broke down the details of stress, there are some people that Stay in Past and stress about things even 20 years later and it Is the #1 cause of Disease.
Awesome interview. This is what I need to hear. When I checked Dr. Langer on Wikipedia, I noticed that today, March 25, is her birthday! Happy birthday Dr. Langer 🍾🎂
“I have learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.” - Martha, Washington.
Stress can take a toll, not just on one’s mental health but also, physical health. It is important to build resilience and adopting healthy ways to cope to protect yourself from the many stressors in life that will test our patience, and to counteract against these effects
I was married to a narcissist, my oldest son chose to live with him, argh! He is trapped in the web of self-doubt, he is so much smarter and wiser, I wish he would break free from the negativity.
"YES" The biggest moment was when Dr Langer said "when you recognize that all the stops you put on yourself we're just decisions that some other people made...!" 😮😊
Thank you this was a gift to me. It came to me at a time when at 83 I have succumbed to vague feelings of loss of energy. I realise Dr. Langer's talk that what I am suffering from is a lack for mindfulness.
My niece took her life..three months later I was in the hospital..then the next year I was diagnosed with autoimmune ailments..yes stress grief..does make you physically sick..thank you for your wisdom ❤
Beautiful! I’m 65 years old and my annual exam included mammogram, the whole 9 yards indicated that I was in Perfect Health! Dr., is still scratching his head! Lol however, I do stay in mindfulness and I’ve had crazy things happen in my lifetime, but at the end of the day, it’s ability to accept change
I needed this! Been dealing with horrible LPR, etc. Chronic acid cough for months & Im always telling my mom and others about my symtoms and now I realize Im keeping myself in this state because Im constantly stressed
I had a very stressful event in January and have been dealing with reflux and bloated every day since! I know the cause but the symptoms keep me thinking about it constantly.
I had burnt my hand with hot oil , the pain redness and swelling decreased and reversed when i visualised the swelling going down and the eed hot pain was ice cold. Next day my hand looked normal , no burn
I have a business cleaning houses and have always thought of it as exercise. I've always said I could not do a desk job and sit all day. I'm 62 and in better shape than some people younger than myself. Thanks for clarifying. I also don't believe in taking a bunch of drugs but alternative strategies.
The competitive nature of life from the cradle to the grave - plus the high expectations from people around us - contributes greatly to stress and eventually sickness… - just my thoughts…😊
I have often said and agree with the doctor Langer that the most important relationship is the one with yourself. Nobody can make you angry four other negative thing feeling we have. We do it to ourselves . That's why we can't forgive anybody else. We have to forgive ourselves which simply means letting go of whatever negative hostile resentful feeling we have towards someone because it's not doing us any good to keep holding on to a negative feeling. it's going to make us sick. Coming full circle.
Meditation has been practiced for millennia and for good reason!. I counselled myself out of a bout of depression, brought on by stress, by practicing meditation!.
YES 🎉🎉🎉I’m starting my reframing now. I’m a young 71 year old healing from chronic fatigue. I started riding my super cool bike around the neighborhood working up from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. 7/28/24 will measure 30 days minus 3. Yesterday before I listened to this discussion, I told each organ in my body and emphasis on my Hashimoto thyroid that I loved every part of them unbeknownst to me that I was exercising mindful health, however I came home embracing my outdated platform. Today, after listening to this discussion, I celebrated my body’s universe working together as a team embracing freedom of healthiness. Thanking and loving every anatomical part of my body. Embracing the release of any past CPTSD trauma held anywhere in my body to the wind to be recycled into positive energy. It was lovely to imagine the wind whisking it away. I imagined myself as a kid when riding my bike around the neighborhood, up and down each street to feel freedom from my toxic home life and embraced that joyful memory. Thank you for this enlightenment🎉🎉🎉 I bought the audible book to listen to tonight.
This is great !! Listening, and watching Dr.Ellen Langer at the moment is exciting !! Believe it, she is more lively ,clear and younger than yesterday. Being positive eliminates stress, even for good. Let's move forward positively and live longer. Thank you!!!!
You can’t know ❤ be confident and uncertain. I feel like I am 10 everyday. I have such gentle compassion for myself like a child. It is really endearing
im blown away! i've been saying this for years since im not a harvard professor people always dismissed me as lunatic! thank u ellen 4 backing my intuition. thx soo much!!
I love psychology and sociology, neurology, It’s so important! ❤😁 The way she’s explaining everything is the way I think and I’ve learned to think. It’s helped me profusely and I used to be very stressed with many triggers and couldn’t separate the worry from focusing on what I needed to accomplish in the moment and it was mindfully debilitating. I was taught to worry! When I stopped listening to others who kept telling me to worry about every small thing in life, and I took the action steps to utilize all this info and much more info as well as learning my genetics and opening up to understanding a better way of life and living then I began living it! My whole life changed. I began to open up and learn info about all kinds of things I never would have allowed myself to learn because I was taught not to. I stopped letting others control me which upset certain family members as well as friends and I just let them go and began to stay away from them. Then my life turned around and I began to accomplish my goals one by one and continue to do so. Everyone can do this, it’s just up to each person to decide if they want to or not. I wanted to and many people don’t so they continued their cycle of unhappiness in life for life, then get upset at all of those who took the steps and became happy. Healing is so important. Don’t hold onto them. Forgiveness is key to yourself and others. You have to deal with the issue and not place it in the back of your mind. You experienced negative or horrible situation, knowledge it, express your thoughts about how it makes you feel and begin to deal with it etc…then begin healing and move forward, knowing it’s now in the past and you get to live today and in the future, so do it. Live today and for the future. My weight fluctuates when I’m stressed and when I’m not I lose weight immediately and without changing anything else. It’s very real. It’s so interesting to me! I absolutely love learning about it all from so many people who teach it and help others as well! It takes practice to do it and if I can do it, you and others can do it too! I use the stick market as an example too. Great analogy. I’ve worked in Radiology and CT, DEXA’s Surgery, Management, for over 25 years and she’s explaining the truth! Powerful info here! 😇💪🏼👍🏻🤩
This was truly an amazing episode! I think everyone can benefit from the mindset of curiosity and avoiding absolutes. The way Dr Langer articulated these ideas was truly profound!
18:08 "Behaviour makes sense from the actor's perspective. When you see me as gullible, I'm not intending to be gullible. What is it I'm intending? I am trusting." She has said so much about human nature just through this one statement alone.
Best interview with Dr. Langer I have seen! I love the long format of Lewis' interviews; it makes for a much richer and immersive audience experience. I follow Dr. Langer's tenets and am convinced more than ever that the mind/body connection is very real. Kudos to she and Deepak Chopra, IMO they're the best in the field of mind/body medicine!

I love how Lewis confidently repeats what she says back to him with his knowledge and perception of how to take in what she's trying to teach us so that he can better understand it and he does this in literally all his videos so grateful for you Lewis!! Keep it up the world needs more people like you!
As a person who experiences dyslexia my thinking is different.when I come to a conclusion it most times It came about not in the "usual"way.i tend to see the big picture and the outcome may be the same or better than the "normal"way of thinking,doing....i may not be able to tell you how i came to my decision sometimes.i belive its a unique way of thinking,processing,doing...yes,embrace the not knowing.kerpsthings exciting, less stresdful and kerps things sort of magical🌠
That's like when I read an article or report, I start at the end and went my way back. It helps me concentrate and process the information. Like reverse engineering
FASCINATING!!!! I DEFINITELY believe the the attitude of a person is tremendously impirtant.I notice day in and out in obssessed by numbers Germany they act, dress etc according to their chronoliguy only.😢
Dr Gladys mcgrady lived a life like this. She was always learning always looking forward to the day and had such mindfulness about what she was doing. This is such a wonderful video to listen to
This is tremendous. I'm healing and sometimes In the past I have experienced pain and laughed. That surprised the specialists working on me and now I can reframe things neutrally. Thank you Dr. Langer and Mr. Howes.
I try to stay positive as a teacher but dealing with many people at once is stressful especially if the students are very needy. How can i be Mindful in a noisy setting?
I love her mindset and her life wisdom. We really need to appreciate every little thing around us, and I really like the way she explained everything. I believe in the power of positive thinking, but listening to her and her personal experience, she seems like amazing woman.
17:09 this is why i embrace the inner child and care-free in me. It made me realize how much fear can corrupt our mind that leads to stress that leads to sickness
"FEAR NOT" is in the Bible 365 times, so God knew it would be a major issue for most of us! First step is becoming aware of our thoughts, then changing out the scary/negative ones and give them zero power!😊

BEAUTIFUL 😍❤😊.
I'm going to buy this book, read it, write a message and then leave it in a public place and hopefully the person who picks it up will do the same.

@@amandal8822 such a thoughtful thought. I may be the lucky one to find it.
Have you started reading the book yet? It’d be interesting to know your thoughts.
Whats the book
"Not knowing is what makes it interesting" I love this. Especially for someone like me who likes challenges.

@numbernine3436 wow.. you are amazing. And very good advice. I'm totally devastated. I'm as you mentioned the one who has been consumed in every thought. I caused anxiety, insomnia and depression. I wish I had you're strength. I'll try to think differently.
Could you imagine having this beautiful Soul as your mother growing up??? Wow at 56 I find this information transforming. Thank you for sharing.
Not everyone can get lucky, but we can always make the luck for someone else, be a beautiful soul for your offsprings and for people around you.
This podcast is so rich! If only we could make this into a subject in schools. It's a gift to self.
Yes, teach the young ones to think out of the box, go against the grain if curious. Teach them to organically question and know we don’t know. Love the 1 pile of potatoes plus 1 more pile = a pile of potatoes!! Kids love visuals!

so true Hello from Greece

The life we create for ourselves determined our stress levels including the person you choose as partner, the environment you work and live in.
In that case does creating our life means that we know what we're Creating? Because I'm assuming if we did know what we were creating, then we're certainly create the perfect life if we understood what that was!!! But I can't nearly say I purpose the life I have Now...your thoughts may help, thanks 😊
This hit close to home. Ty. My eyes and mind are now open
Best advice. Create Happiness. ❤
I was blessed with a loving, wise mother and I’m seeing more n more, when I was a kid if I failed at anything games, tests etc she’d always say “well, that’s the way it is for now “ I used to get annoyed saying I want to win etc
Well you might next time, she’d say and it’s more fun sometimes doing it
She totally embraced uncertainty, I always felt very safe with her and nursed her when she was dying…. She believed all is always well it’s just how we see it, she was far from a Harvard graduate but soo wise ❤
Dr. Ellen Langer, a trailblazer in psychology, reveals how thoughts impact physical health. Her work reshapes understanding of mind-body connection beautifully.
🙌
There is no relationship more important than the one I have with thoughts, with the mind
Having a relationship with Heavenly Father, has been my greatest relationship in my life ❤️ and he has blessed me greatly in my life in way's l could of never imagined! Praying has helped me have the spirit of God in my life and this has helped me to be strong and stress free.
so true
Then the next question becomes : who am I as opposed to the mind.. enter philosophy😅
bring life to your years and not years to your life...amazing!

This lady is fascinating. Best interview I’ve heard in a long time.
She's a free spirit
In a nutshell I would say: Question everything ... Ellen Langer is an inspiration! 👍☀️🔥
God in nut shell. Awesome
Thanks for being here!
Negativity causes stress. By avoiding it, sickness,.aging,... name them would not be topics of discussion.Being positive makes us skip most of them. We remain strong, rarely fall sick, and keep looking younger for as long as necessary .
Avoiding negativity is not the answer
It does avoid stress and that helps
your perception of negativity is what causes stress. Avoiding negativity is not encouraged but choosing to react differently does
Lewis one of your best interviews. This woman is a star, she amazing, and I wish I knew her when I was 20. Life changing!
Thank you Dr. Langer. Thank you Lewis. Needed this one.
So glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you for watching.
Agree
Besides her comment about meditation is reciting mantras and disconnecting from reality, I find this woman to be very wise. Thank you! This was a great gift when it was most needed.
Thanks for being here!
Absolutely, this is not an accurate understanding of meditation at all.
Meditation or prayer. ❤
I'm confused about her understanding of meditation 🤔😢
disconnecting from unreality? (Such as imagined, unreal, scary stories).
I agree! Stress has aged me about 5 years in 2 months.

When things calm down at some point we can reverse it !!
So glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you for watching.
Where did you learn how to do this or that you COULD do this?
Wow I can use your help in loosing weight and healing!!!
❤
You are not alone ! Keep going😊

Such a brilliant researcher and psychologist! Her work is amazing and life changing! I’m so glad you had her on the show❤️
Thanks for being here!
Our virtual and physical environments have wreaked so much havoc on us over the past four years. Holding entities and people connected to them accountable would reduce A LOT of stress.
Boy howdy in that one!!!
In other words don't trust your government....lies
I Love how Dr. Ellen Langer Broke down the details of stress, there are some people that Stay in Past and stress about things even 20 years later and it Is the #1 cause of Disease.
I’m glad my memory is short , past is past, I focused in my present
I'd enjoy hearing her older stories so much! I wish she had a UA-cam channel or website!!!
Awesome interview. This is what I need to hear. When I checked Dr. Langer on Wikipedia, I noticed that today, March 25, is her birthday! Happy birthday Dr. Langer 🍾🎂
Glad you enjoyed it!
“I have learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.” - Martha, Washington.
WOW....smart Lady...
Stress can take a toll, not just on one’s mental health but also, physical health. It is important to build resilience and adopting healthy ways to cope to protect yourself from the many stressors in life that will test our patience, and to counteract against these effects
I got my vertigo due to stressful work environment instigated by a narcissist boss😢
This lady has changed my life in just two videos.
I want to be this woman when I grow up. Thank you Dr Langer! This was a joy to experience today.
My niece took her life..three months later I was in the hospital..then the next year I was diagnosed with autoimmune ailments..yes stress grief..does make you physically sick..thank you for your wisdom ❤
I love this woman! So happy to see her here speaking her brilliance. On a side note: Lewis, you rock. I appreciate you beyond words.
Thank you!
Please explain why is Dr scratching his head as you're in good health.. why wouldn't you be?
I needed this! Been dealing with horrible LPR, etc. Chronic acid cough for months & Im always telling my mom and others about my symtoms and now I realize Im keeping myself in this state because Im constantly stressed
I had a very stressful event in January and have been dealing with reflux and bloated every day since! I know the cause but the symptoms keep me thinking about it constantly.
I had burnt my hand with hot oil , the pain redness and swelling decreased and reversed when i visualised the swelling going down and the eed hot pain was ice cold. Next day my hand looked normal , no burn
You could also do Reiki or touch for health and literally pull the pain off and at the same time reduce the swelling and redness. Take a deep breath.
Amazing woman.I discovered her with Tal Ben shahar in his Harvard lectures on positive psychology
Spiritual, mental well being, gratitude, lifestyle changes
I TRULY TRULY TRULY THANK U... THIS COULDN'T HAVE CAME TO ME AT A BETTER TIME...WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GIFT

🎉🎉🎉I’m starting my reframing now.
Thank you for this enlightenment🎉🎉🎉

You can’t know ❤ be confident and uncertain. I feel like I am 10 everyday. I have such gentle compassion for myself like a child. It is really endearing
I love that for you. Like why be hard on ourselves? This is our first time navigating these situations.
One more gift of the most generous person in the world I know!!!! Thank you Lewis ❤
🧡
im blown away! i've been saying this for years since im not a harvard professor people always dismissed me as lunatic!
thank u ellen 4 backing my intuition. thx soo much!!
😇💪🏼👍🏻🤩
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!! 🧡
