Reading those comments on how easy it seems to do electronic music, made me think of something. I think, people who spent years in learning an instrument, spent a lot of energy in getting better, maybe writing songs and stuff, those people just don't like, that some other ones can do similar things much easier. But there is are two problems with it. The first is, that it is not that easy as it seems. Sure, you don't have to spent years learning how to synch a record with another, but live electronics are really a complex thing. Learning how Ableton, the Maschine, your synths and all the other devices work together, besides learning how to produce (mix and master) music AND how to make good stuff with it. In the end it is all the same. You learn to handle all that stuff and it works for you, like you can learn a traditional music instrument, that can work for you. One maybe easier than the other, but people who play "real" instruments have that really, really important benefit: It makes a lot more fun to to play with band mates. Producing the music directly from your hands gives you a lot of more satisfaction than DJing or live electronics (and looks better). That is the perspective of the artist itself. The consumer doesn't give a shit about, how much time one spent to do what he does or how much fun he has, because he is a egoist. All he wants is, that he likes, what enters his hears (or eyes). And that is the thing about art. You fall in love with hard stuff, because you learn how to do it. A lot of young musicians ruin their music, because they want to play incredibly good or something. But you have to play for the song, not for yourself. In other words, you have to work for the art itself. And that point, it doesn't matter how long it took to get to the point of being able to do so. And in my opinion: In popular music we are at a point, were you shouldn't seperate between live instruments and live electronics. Great artists don't let themselves being caged in those categories. They look beyond their horizons and let everything work for them. Look at Tame Impala, The Notwist, Radiohead, ... They wouldn't be, what they are now, if they stayed in their genres in the first place. They play their instruments, use live electronics, that "play themselves", work with great live visuals and so on. (Besides that: No one wants to see/be someone on stage playing a 4x4 bass drum for 90 minutes)
@Lucas Wojatschke the interpretation of what is LIVE perfoming has gone into a strange direction. i`ve searched for an EDM live act,but i found none. just dj`s mixing with CD`s.and that is called Live performing because the DJ`s shout into a mic, jump into the air, arms into the air and playing the air piano with fingers.that looks stupid.throw rocks at them.guys like martin garix, david guetta why Don`t they take some synths, drum maschines and perform there own tracks live on stage and Not from a CD? boooy!
to those who say djing isn't music...everything is art in it's own way. Every tool is also good for it's own purpose. I'm neither a dj nor a lover of ableton. Not my thing, but I admire those who do this kind of thing because it takes talent that I simply don't have. Have some professionalism kiddos. To become famous you have to ACT like you're famous. That means being professional.
Dude you're a badass, I love these video's, it's so helpful for someone like me who is on a pretty tight budget and has no idea how to make equipment decision. Keep it up mate!
Wow, so much great info from square one, i have been looking for a video that works right from the barebones and then builds, would love to see the same kind of tutorial/demo for home production as well. (focusing more on production, rather than set up.
Hi there, great video. I have a question, what was the make and model of the mixer controller you were showing? The one you picked up from the floor. It has 64 buttons on it with encoders. That looked really cool.
Really good. Can you do videoes where you use other programs than Ableton? I use Reason 10. I would really love to see a video like this, with Reason 10. I also use PC and not Mac. But ya very good video. Simple and easy to understand.
I'm new to DJing, and would like to dabble in production, I'm considering Maschine Mk2 and Mikro Mk2, and an audio interface to get vocals and such into the computer. Would I be OK with the Mikro version? It would save me a good bit toward the audio interface. I'm completely new to this all, would Maschine be a good first tool to learn with? Thanks for your videos... Sincerely, Isaiah
What iPad app is that? so it can sync to my laptop ableton session wirelessly? Does that mean I can connect my Lauchkey mini to the iPad and control ableton on my laptop?
I've got all my plugins and samples on my desktop pc. Is there a way to network this over the internet? Or do I really need to bring my whole PC? Intuitively it seems possible but I haven't found any guides on it.
If you plan on using ableton, then you can implement maschine hardware into ableton using midi mapping if you know what that is, also look in eletrix tweaker and midi fighter 3d all useful pieces of equipment paired with hardware i think ableton push is one of the best things at the min
Looks like an Arturia Analog Factory Experience. Strange name I know, but Arturia must have thought so as well because they recently renamed it to just The Factory.
I hate all the Ableton and Traktor-based setups.. It's not as 'real' unless you're doing it live. That's why I love overdub-able loop pedals so you can do everything :D
Well, if you're a starter in this and just really don't know where to look then Google this: Ambition Dubstep Maker (a nice little program for regular computers)
yeah...how about just a ON/OFF wireless switch in the pocket? lol , of course with a computer all can be done, the cool thing is doing all without it ;)
The only person who just presses play is David Guetta because he has prerecorded sets, but at least other producers/djs have to mix in all the songs as they go.

you need a 4 out soundcard and then use abletons cueing feature and send the output to your head phones
I know back in the day Nine Inch Nails used to use a 4 track tape recorder as an instrument to recreate their crazy sounds live.
Great video, very informative
The 1st person i actually understand..!! Thank You so much!! keep them vids coming..!!! VERY BUENO!!!!
excellent video ! thanks !

What would you recommend? Garage Band?
This is the best channel in youtube history but you must have a ton of money to afford all this stuff!
can you do a video on using Maschine with Ableton? because there isn't a good tutorial on this on the internet... But nice video!
THANK YOU!
I hate all the Ableton and Traktor-based setups.. It's not as 'real' unless you're doing it live. That's why I love overdub-able loop pedals so you can do everything :D

I think the perfect live tool would be korg kaospad, kaossilator, and a microkorg. No more laptops. Goodbye latency.
M4SONIC.
can you use yhe db2 just wih ableton and not serato?
software:serato

That time when you click on a video thinking it's going to be a joke and you're about as disappointed as browsing r/new
machane
i suscribed fuggit
Dj shit isn't live performable such as a band is able to. You still have to turn on your CD and put your hands up in the air
Rookie...

Hey here's a radical idea - how about you people focus on the content instead of what I look like.
amen
Little late reply there buddy.
u have to have apc
I always thought you were a handsome chap...

Yours push me subscribe the channel. Very good video.Thanks.
I hate the sound of the High Hat
Ohhh I was hoping this was going to be a "joke" video.

Haha, if you say so.

How to play electronic music live - Press play.
Best comment.
But that is boring. It's all about finding away to get far away from that.
The only person who just presses play is David Guetta because he has prerecorded sets, but at least other producers/djs have to mix in all the songs as they go.
>mix
Pressing a second button.
Or there's doing it the old school way and picking up an instrument. :P
Hey here's a radical idea - how about you focus on the content instead of what people say about your appearance?
no one sshhh" the guitar player?
sick video. talk slower so trrdz like me can keep up without rewind
Or.... learn to use cdj's lol
u have to have apc
