One of the underrated parts about homestuck is thats its basically impossible for you to hold all of it in your head at once, so even when you go back and rewatch/reread parts you can be surprised again at plot twists and shit. For instance, I always forget that Bro was deadass fighting Jack using lil cal and apparently holding his own.
Makes sense when you consider the theory Dave brings up when he's talking to Dirk that Caliborn was using Cal to influence Bro. Probably imparted some of his strength onto him as well. Or just the fact that Cal is a juju was enough.
@@skreemixles5344 well yeah, but he wasn’t a god YET, he died when Jack became actually god. Not putting down Bro’s acheivement of literally holding his own against the supposed last boss though, the king is supposedly insane like the queen so yeah.
@@cheeseyam5991 Currently they explain it to you on the webcomic. Terezi with her powers of "Seer of Mind" and the help of a third person (Snowman), foresees that if they give the royal ring (It gives the powers of the Sprites to the carapacians) Jack could lose control and go on a genocidal campaign, so Terezi convinces Karkat to destroy the ring instead of giving it to Jack. I only say that Jack is the kind of person who could kill his ally in cold blood when he has no use for them or when they do something to piss him off a lot. It doesn´t mean that he can´t feel positive emotions or loyalty (as it has been shown in the comic), but with his relationship with the trolls it gives me the feeling that he didn´t have such feelings towards them or at least not the level of loyalty and camaraderie that Karkat felt towards him for sharing the same color of blood.

the whole Bec situation is the fault of like a bazillion different characters depending on how you interpret events. it could be said that it was Dave's fault because he alchemized a copy of Rose's MEOW journal just before the gods in the furthest ring told her to burn it. this, in turn, provided Droog with the genetic code to combine with the dog Haley in order to create Bec in the first place. or you could say it's the fault of Jade/Jake for making the bunny that allowed Jack to overthrow the Black Queen and take her ring... or maybe it's AR's fault for refusing to give PM the package and making her go through a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense while Jack remained in possession of the box. it could even be John's fault for losing the package in the first place when, if he had just asked his dad to get it out of the car like a normal kid back in act one, the whole plot thread of what happened to it wouldn't be relevant at all. Karkat also considers all of this to be his fault because he was the one who started the trolling campaign against the kids, which in turn led the kids to disregard all the trolls' attempts to communicate in good faith for way longer than they otherwise would've, thus preventing the trolls from properly warning the kids about what was to come. and in a more meta sense, Karkat is convinced that he messed up the frog breeding when he and Kanaya were creating the human universe, which could also be credited to the curse that Karkat believes he's under. if you buy into this theory, the whole thing might even be Sollux's fault for making that virus... though Sollux already blames himself for developing SGRUB into a playable game in the first place, even though he couldn't have known the true consequences of what he was doing at the time. and sure, there's the Vriska thing, but her transgression is just the one with the most active intent out of all of them... she did what she did specifically so that she would be responsible for the creation of Bec Noir, which still makes her a huge asshole whether that fate could've/should've been changed or not. and friggin... Gamzee. the fact that he would've gone crazy and murdered everyone in an alternate timeline doesn't mean that he didn't go crazy and murder several trolls anyway in this one, and in neither case was he at all helpful.
@@asaltedpudding4041 yeah... I struggle to really track Doc Scratch's influence, mostly because he could conceivably mess with anyone in any way he wants at any time, and a lot of his manipulation is revealed long after the fact in causal ways, but I don't doubt that he had a hand in a lot of this.
For those who were like me and have no idea what happened, here's what happened: Jade had to prototype her sprite before she entered the game, and the way she entered was by shooting down the cat-pinata thing. John was about to prototype it with something random, but Vriska fucked shit up and put him to sleep, leaving seconds before Jade would enter the game with an un-prototyped sprite. Her cat, the First Guardian, an extremely powerful being that wields power over the Green Sun, acted quickly and prototyped itself. However, every time a sprite is prototyped, it gives some kind of power and characteristic to the main enemy of the game, which is Jack Noir in this case. Jack became this all-powerful shit-fucker and entered the troll's session as they were about to win, somehow. Aradia was able to get them all out before he killed everyone, but he managed to kill dream-Karkat and Dave's bro, and destroy Prospit. On the bright side, Jade entered the game. *EDIT* IT'S A DOG NOT A FUCKING CAT
Sometimes I think about what Homestuck was and wonder why, and then sometimes I rewatch [S] Cascade, or [S] Collide and I remember what it was all about. It’s fun to shit on for sure, but it was complex, deep, and tackled some difficult subject matter. I only wish that one day I can write something as simultaneously crazy and intricate as Homestuck.
Obviously it would be something very difficult to write but I'm sure you have very good ideas, in fact, good ideas there are many, too many, some even much more incredible than homestuck, but making people see that your idea is a good idea is what hardest of all, but don't give up, maybe one day you'll be able to do something genuinely good that even though it's not well known you'll still be satisfied with how great it is
Fun fact that probably no one cared about: The melody from 3:07 on is Carefree Victory. I don't know the name of the specific track that's playing, but that's the base melody and it's sO FEELSY BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME JADE'S EVER SEEN SNOW.
Jack and Spade are two different people, the same base but born in different universes, if you catch my drift plus, the exile computers are shown to be sort of like low-key manipulation, so maybe Karkat thought that he was hating himself (which is also fucked, but still) also, I forget most of the smaller details, did Karkat know that Spade was his exile and that he was the one entering thoughts into his brain?
1:25 - 1:29 is soooo underrated. Yeah yeah meteors but the scale of it now with what was done. Because here is where the earth truly dies from the massive tsunamis brought about by Bec trying to protect a 13yr old girl.
Can we appreciate at 1:20 where the explosion was traveling and expanding so fast it reached a point in the world where it was day *chef kiss* delicious 😤👌
When i first read Homestuck, I was reading it on my iPad, which can't play flashes of course. I just skipped them all. I was like "they probably aren't that important, just cool little pages with songs" Then i got a computer, and this was the first flash i watched. And OH MY GOD IT BLEW MY MIND needless to say, I felt like an idiot and went back and watched the rest lol
Gotta love the attention to detail in Homestuck, it makes you value it more in rewatches. I think most people would have made the mistake of having Bec Noir have the same character model throughout the whole flash, but because Hussie had already planned Cascade by this point, he makes the distinction of having the Bec Noir that is fighting Bro and Davesprite have a clean hand, and the one who attacks the trolls have the bloodsoaked hand. This is also a clue for the current reader that these Becs are not the same and are from different times (common thing in Homestuck)
i’m in 2024 watching this right now and I always wish that the plot could’ve gone a certain different way in hindsight. But the story and how it actually went down made it way more dramatic and interesting. I’ll never forget the characters of homestuck and what the story did for me.
There's something about the way Homestuck is written. Like a video game, it introduces different mechanics of its world, like prototyping and first guardians. And then those mechanics are combined, in the most awesome ways possible. I never cease to be amazed at the particular moment of Bec's prototyping, how much power is translated through that scene, by the combination of the music, animation, and the reader's previous knowledge of Bec and prototyping.
But... But we don't NEED a threat to all reality though? I mean think about it dude, not counting the Cherub session, the entire comic takes place in three game sessions and two universe. "all of reality" this does not encompass! Even if it did! English never actually did anything to hurt the realities, he only consumed them /after they had already died/ He may have orchestrated that death yes but we have no reason to believe he actively killed them. If you want an antagonist that affects all of reality, look no further then the game itself at the start of the comic, the dang thing kills planets to give birth to universes. If you really want a reality-affecting antagonist there it is right there!
@@inkblade5993 Well yeah, but we could have had the game as an antagonist without the need for some pointless green hulk that everyone starts obsessing over for no reason.
actually bec probably knew it was going to happen (he has near omnipotence cause he is a first guardian)and vriska wanted to see the full extent of her powers on the humans an john was right there so why not?and actually the bec thing did doom the timeline.... but they scratched witch erased that timeline..... so there was a new timeline so shenanigens
zxcvbwolf I just read a Formspring post by AH that says that Bec isn't near-omniscient like all the other first guardians, because of his dog DNA. I think he just did it to save Jade.
It still surprises me that Karkat is Prospit, not Derse, he's so negative that I thought, for sure, he'd be Derse since I think Derse usually holds the more negative/serious characters.
In general, Prospit dreamers tend to be more positive, and I think that holds true for Karkat. He was optimistic that they could all win the game together even though it was literally manufactured on the basis of them killing each other off. His general rude attitude and negativity was more a projection of his insecurity/result of them failing. They also tend to be agree with or associate with authority, so of course the leader of the group would be Prospit.
Pros : Jade is saved Cons : Jack is much more powerful John fell asleep to an ocean of oil The trolls are doomed. Bro and Davesprite is dead. Less motivation for Dave
At this point, Chapter 5 hadn't really been that amazing to me. When I saw Bec getting prototyped I was like "Oh crap. Terrible crap. All of it. All of the crap." I'm just now past this point and still wondering what's gonna happen!
Why I didn't remember this [S]? Is really amazing. And this is how one of the big problems of the Homestuck Universe/s (? appeared. "CG: YOU MADE AN UNBEATABLE BOSS IS WHAT YOU DID."...but really, Vriska did that D:, she's culprit, why she did that!? I can't remember a reason... The ending is cute
Jack was already alive in her timeline wrecking shit. If Vriska HADN'T made him what he was, then it would have just made a doomed timeline and everything would have been for nothing.
Another thing is the fact that they would need jade to gain jacks powers in order for them to go to alpha human timeline. Without that they wouldn't have been able to help them make their universe (should they get that far) plus it's directly linked to the creation of the green sun etc etc... There's sooooooo many reason XD
Biggest mindfuck of all: That green box, the one Jack used to kill the queen and begin the doomed timeline to begin with? That came from the universe created as a result of scratching the universe because it was doomed thus creating the universe in which the box could be sent back to begin with by which I mean as a result of.
I think this is still my favorite Homestuck animation. The song, Bec being prototyped and Jack gaining the Bec powers, the scene with the trolls being attacked... I remember being really blown away by it at the time. I think it was one of the first ones I saw after catching up on the whole thing too.

I’ve noticed that in big plot heavy flashes, there’s often moments where the energy kicks down, strings and bells and beautiful instruments kick in, and there’s a little snatch of peace and beauty and delicateness. And those moments are very often the moments when it turns to Jade. I love characters :)
Hey, what if all the most powerful players manipulated the sprites to combine together into an unholy, but definitely powerful god. On a less disturbing note, what if after this is all over, they hijack someone else's game and make them selves the sprites so they can have one more big challenge.
Had bec don nothing the earth still would've been doomed, that meteor looked to be the around the size of Australia, I don't think that the earth could survive a meteor that large

if you buy into this theory, the whole thing might even be Sollux's fault for making that virus... though Sollux already blames himself for developing SGRUB into a playable game in the first place, even though he couldn't have known the true consequences of what he was doing at the time.
and sure, there's the Vriska thing, but her transgression is just the one with the most active intent out of all of them... she did what she did specifically so that she would be responsible for the creation of Bec Noir, which still makes her a huge asshole whether that fate could've/should've been changed or not. and friggin... Gamzee. the fact that he would've gone crazy and murdered everyone in an alternate timeline doesn't mean that he didn't go crazy and murder several trolls anyway in this one, and in neither case was he at all helpful.
@@loregoblin3854 most of those characters were in some roundabout way were tricked by Doc Scratch.
For those who were like me and have no idea what happened, here's what happened:
Jade had to prototype her sprite before she entered the game, and the way she entered was by shooting down the cat-pinata thing.
Jonathan Hsieh Yeah, after writing this and looking back I was like "shit. It's not a cat."
+Melody Anderson Pretty sure a cat can't be that big :P also we already have a cat in the post scratch universe
yep. preeeeeeeetty much

Haha get it??????????
Dream Karkat is so cute. I just want to hug him.
Aaaaaaaand, he's dead.

that doesn't take away the fact that karkat is cute i'd hug his corpse damnit
+Venin Vixen (Abby) He's like a grumpy puppy.

Obviously it would be something very difficult to write but I'm sure you have very good ideas, in fact, good ideas there are many, too many, some even much more incredible than homestuck, but making people see that your idea is a good idea is what hardest of all, but don't give up, maybe one day you'll be able to do something genuinely good that even though it's not well known you'll still be satisfied with how great it is
😮......I..have been blessed with your words because I am making something that actually has the complexity of homestuck in it
Ayo what the dog doin?
DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID!?
YOU CREATED AN UNBEATABLE BOSS!
ThePinkPartyHat thanks I didn't know that
It also zoomed out from Jack, which is foreshadowing that Jack imprinted onto her thanks to Bec.
02:16 is my favorite part

the feels are reel
I feel you too
Reel! You could have said real but you said reel instead!

Lmao everyone is talking about how karkat and jack were “buddies” when spades slick himself used the exile computer to tell karkat he hated him.
Jack and Spade are two different people, the same base but born in different universes, if you catch my drift
plus, the exile computers are shown to be sort of like low-key manipulation, so maybe Karkat thought that he was hating himself (which is also fucked, but still)
also, I forget most of the smaller details, did Karkat know that Spade was his exile and that he was the one entering thoughts into his brain?
Oh the NOSTALGIA at 2:16
It’s so happy and bouncy and innocent
And everyone’s alive and smiling and not dead
1:25 - 1:29 is soooo underrated. Yeah yeah meteors but the scale of it now with what was done. Because here is where the earth truly dies from the massive tsunamis brought about by Bec trying to protect a 13yr old girl.
Can we appreciate at 1:20 where the explosion was traveling and expanding so fast it reached a point in the world where it was day *chef kiss* delicious 😤👌
0:40 not to ruin the mood but i have to say i always imagine the game theory intro starting up when bec prototypes himself
CG: YOU MADE AN UNBEATABLE BOSS IS WHAT YOU DID
When i first read Homestuck, I was reading it on my iPad, which can't play flashes of course.
I just skipped them all. I was like "they probably aren't that important, just cool little pages with songs"
Then i got a computer, and this was the first flash i watched. And OH MY GOD IT BLEW MY MIND
needless to say, I felt like an idiot and went back and watched the rest lol
Hundreds of times watching this and only now I'm noticing Karkat's nails are golden yellow colored.
trolls naturally have yellow nails, just they naturally have black lips

That part when Bec jumps into the sprite and the fucking bass drops. Just.

Wow really
i’m in 2024 watching this right now and I always wish that the plot could’ve gone a certain different way in hindsight. But the story and how it actually went down made it way more dramatic and interesting. I’ll never forget the characters of homestuck and what the story did for me.
the ending made me cry
just
its so sweet
Sarah Emily ohmygod
There's something about the way Homestuck is written. Like a video game, it introduces different mechanics of its world, like prototyping and first guardians. And then those mechanics are combined, in the most awesome ways possible. I never cease to be amazed at the particular moment of Bec's prototyping, how much power is translated through that scene, by the combination of the music, animation, and the reader's previous knowledge of Bec and prototyping.
Imagine having to live with the trauma that your planet died just so you could play a game
Why did we need Lord English around when we had this guy as the main antagonist again?
good question
Because Bec Noir isn't a threat to all of reality. Just a threat to a few universes!
@@TamTroll I think in the end that was the point the game was the true antagonist all along
@@inkblade5993 Well yeah, but we could have had the game as an antagonist without the need for some pointless green hulk that everyone starts obsessing over for no reason.
I don’t care how strong LE are, nothing can match the pure fear and panic when you first realise the implication of Bec prototypes himself
Sad as shit when Jack destroys Prospit and Derse.
Umbral Ultimatum is one of my absolutely favorite songs ever in Homestuck, it gives me chills each time I listen to it.
I wonder if using that doll in the kernelsprite would've doomed the timeline, and that's why Bec and Vriska worked together to stop the prototyping.
William Boysen It would of.... and that is indeed why they did
actually bec probably knew it was going to happen (he has near omnipotence cause he is a first guardian)and vriska wanted to see the full extent of her powers on the humans an john was right there so why not?and actually the bec thing did doom the timeline.... but they scratched witch erased that timeline..... so there was a new timeline
so shenanigens
AkiraSD games The word you're looking for in this context is actually omniscience. Omnipotence is a measure of power, not knowledge.
zxcvbwolf I just read a Formspring post by AH that says that Bec isn't near-omniscient like all the other first guardians, because of his dog DNA. I think he just did it to save Jade.
+DarkmageRector Actually, all iterations of Doc Scratch are special cases. He's omniscient from the magic cueball used in ectobiology.
I wonder how hype/in shock readers were when they saw Bec jump into the sprite orb it must have been like spider-man popping up in civil war hype
I'm currently reading Homestuck for the first time and this is by far my favorite animation
This is the first and only time Dave and Bro Strider fought on the same side, together. Both their blades against Jack.
i love the scene of the davesprite bro and jack fighting, its cool
It still surprises me that Karkat is Prospit, not Derse, he's so negative that I thought, for sure, he'd be Derse since I think Derse usually holds the more negative/serious characters.
In general, Prospit dreamers tend to be more positive, and I think that holds true for Karkat. He was optimistic that they could all win the game together even though it was literally manufactured on the basis of them killing each other off. His general rude attitude and negativity was more a projection of his insecurity/result of them failing. They also tend to be agree with or associate with authority, so of course the leader of the group would be Prospit.
karkat the kind of person who’s bedtime is at 8pm
Pros :
Jade is saved
Cons :
Jack is much more powerful
John fell asleep to an ocean of oil
The trolls are doomed.
Bro and Davesprite is dead.
Less motivation for Dave
Pros: The timeline didn’t go to shit, preventing Gamzee from killing everyone.
pros:
jade is saved
this song gets a cool flash
cons: everyone on earth fucking died
Davesprite aint die
pros: bro is dead
So far, this has been the most impactful part of Homestuck for me. So much appened and I sat there pogging at most of this.

If Vriska HADN'T made him what he was, then it would have just made a doomed timeline and everything would have been for nothing.
jubjub594 By the logistics of paradox space, Vriska had already made him in the alpha by the time she made him, but she also didn't make him at all.
No to that last part. She just already had made him.
Watch 2:15 of this after watching Rex Duodecim Angelus to see how unfair it was for the trolls
Duck ikr
Duck a whole war
I think this is still my favorite Homestuck animation. The song, Bec being prototyped and Jack gaining the Bec powers, the scene with the trolls being attacked... I remember being really blown away by it at the time. I think it was one of the first ones I saw after catching up on the whole thing too.
One thing about homestucks music is that they have some of the greatest buildups and releases wich makes my brain go monkee mode
Future Dave and Bro fighting side by side against a clear Planet to Solar System Buster level threat is awesome.
Anyone noticed that it took an entire year to get jade into the gane?
Pretty sure [s] Jack: Ascend was the end of year 1

Oh wow, I never realized how cute Prospit Dreamer!Karakt was!
Why do I find everything about this nostalgic despite me being a new reader
that blood on jack’s hand when he showed up in the troll session taunted everyone for like an entire year. the payoff was awesome though.
This is over a decade old. I love this fandom.
I can't think of a moment in fiction besides this one that made me say "Uh oh" out loud
Uh oh whoopsie boopsies look like they're in a little sticky jiffy! Oh joinkers!
I’ve noticed that in big plot heavy flashes, there’s often moments where the energy kicks down, strings and bells and beautiful instruments kick in, and there’s a little snatch of peace and beauty and delicateness. And those moments are very often the moments when it turns to Jade. I love characters :)
i love how in 2010 480p was high quality
Hey, what if all the most powerful players manipulated the sprites to combine together into an unholy, but definitely powerful god. On a less disturbing note, what if after this is all over, they hijack someone else's game and make them selves the sprites so they can have one more big challenge.
*Beq: Save Jade*
"Congrats, you played yourself."
Did he tho?? The only reason Jack resurrected Jade was because of Bec's love for her. She still survived because of Bec.
I love how bec is supposed to be earth's guardian, yet it's due to his massive explosion of the meteorite that the earth is annihilated
Had bec don nothing the earth still would've been doomed, that meteor looked to be the around the size of Australia, I don't think that the earth could survive a meteor that large
+AwesomeGamer I *done
This was such a crazy moment. Up until now the trolls have been so pissed about this “unkillable boss”, this unstoppable monster that came from the kids’ universe, and I was so confused about what they were talking about. There was Jack, and he was strong, but unkillable seemed a stretch, it just didn’t make sense. And as soon as Bec jumped into the kernalsprite… all I could think was “Oh”.
