My sister went crazy from a lack of sleep and had an episode, this movie reminds me of that so much. The screaming, the banging, it was all so familiar. The realism of it was terrifying

The craziest part about the beginning is that that really is how Alzheimer’s patients react. They can become extremely agitated and go off at the slightest. I’ve had patients that scratch the SHIT out of themselves.

Thats why I really liked it! I didn't know anything about the film other than it was found footage horror. So I thought the scary part was going to be how we see Debs mental and physical state decline. And it honestly was something that was scary to see then paring it with the snake deity thing made it not feel as great.
I work as a caregiver for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and I’ve seen some messed up and truly scary stuff. If I work too many shifts, I literally come home and have nightmares for days. Ive seen resident’s eyes switch from sweet and engaging to full on rage and violence in the blink of an eye. The worst part is sometimes I’ll be working a shift and my residents will be talking about or talking to someone who ain’t even there 😭
@@paigemarieisaacson5358 i knew a 70yo gay man whose 88yo mom had dementia. She had always been loving and supportive to him his whole life, and suddenly she began to scream the most profane homophobic and hurtful things at him. Only time i ever saw him cry was after visiting her in the home.
One of my residents banged her own head so hard on the wall and created a gash in her head then would scratch at it and remove her bandages, she scared the shit out of me wheeling down the hall with blood running down her face

I swear, I think the creators of this movie made a list of super scary things then bunched them all up into one film:
✓ Fear of dementia;
✓ Fear of aging;
✓ Fear of death;
✓ Fear of being the sole care giver of an aging parent;
✓ Fear of snakes;
✓ Fear of possession;
✓ Fear of child abduction and murder;
✓ Fear of caves...
...and on, and on, and on.

It's probably because the film also has unpredictable elderly people in it, but 'The Visit' (2015 by M. Night Shyamalan) gives me similar creepy 'till I'm weepy vibes.
