The Blind Cavefish | JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 лис 2024
- Deep underground, in caves, there is no light. Because there is no light, there is almost nothing for animals to eat. Yet life survives here. The top predator in these sunless ecosystems is a tiny blind cavefish, only a few inches long. These fish are extremely rare, only found in the dark recesses of caves. Jonathan joins Christine Loew, a veteran cave explorer, on a mission to film this elusive fish in Mexico's Riviera Maya.
Christine Loew is an amazing cave/cavern diving guide! We highly recommend her! If you are planning a cave/cavern diving trip to Mexico, drop her a line!
diving-caves.com/
PLEASE NOTE....THIS EPISODE WAS FILMED BEFORE WE WERE CAVE CERTIFIED AND WE ARE WEARING SINGLE TANKS. THE CAVE WE ARE DIVING IN IS ONLY HALF FILLED WITH WATER. WHILE IT IS A TRUE CAVE WITH NO NATURAL LIGHT, THERE IS AIR ABOVE THE DIVERS ALMOST ALL THE TIME. AS A RESULT, THIS IS NOT TRUE "CAVE DIVING."

He said they’re not blind, didn’t say they weren’t stupid lol
It's amazing, you can tell that fish knows what is ahead of him and the curve of the rocks. Just goes to show that even though he doesn't have eyes, doesn't mean he can't see. Evolution is so mindblowing.
Exactly that's Evolutionism the loss of something. If it had eyes in total darkness wouldn't it bump it's eyes into rocks and get infected and die and the same blind cave fish all over the world why didn't they evolve separately. Scientific answer. Because all the caves in the world are or used to be connected with absolutely no scientific evidence to support the idea other than blind fish. Have you ever thought that maybe they were designed without eyes because they live in a cave.
Please see my UA-cam(●´ω`●)(●´ω`●)
Fish have a sensory area called a "lateral line" along each side of them. It is very sensitive to vibrations in the water caused by movement, sound etc. That's why even a blind fish will be able to notice something trying to catch it.
@@gordon985Oh they definitely evolved, there are countless different types of cavefish around the world. Most of them are close relatives of surface fish native to the surrounding area. For example, the Mexican blind cave tetra. This species varies greatly by where you find them. On the surface they are completely normal minnows with eyes, color and everything, but in the caves they are white, sometimes having vestigial eyes, sometimes sunken eyes covered by skin, and sometimes no eyes at all. This is an example of the process of evolution. You can see all the "steps" in real time. Many mutations and natural selection processes over the millennia.
Us humans in fact are responsible for some of our own evolution of our animals and plants. Most of our crops started out with very small fruits and edible parts. Over time we selectively bred them to grow bigger fruits, leaves, tubers etc. Before the chickens we know we're domesticated, they were a tropical bird species called jungle fowl. They used to be able to fly like a normal bird even. But after thousands of years of selective breeding, they are completely different. Much fatter to the point where they can no longer sustain flight, all kinds of different colors, increased egg production, ability to survive cold winters. That's evolution on a micro scale.
Now about the bumping into the walls thing, fish have many strong senses besides sight. They have a nerve area on their sides called the lateral line, that makes them very sensitive to vibrations. This allows them to sense their surroundings independently of sight. There are also many fish such as catfish that have whiskers, which are for the specific purpose of feeling around in the dark. Those fish have very good senses of smell as well. There are also even fish that create electric fields, like knife fish and elephant nose fish. They can sense interruptions in their electric fields from obstacles and can also sense the electric pulse given off by all animals. Elephant nose fish even use their electric pulse to communicate with each other.
Now I don’t even care about the cave fish anymore, I wanna know what creature those bones belong to

That was beautiful. If I'd be honest with you guys, I have this little fear of deep-dark water, but this type of videos made me think, "Why the hell was I afraid of something this beautiful?" So now I watch this type of videos more often and enjoy their beauty. One day, I hope to go and explore them for real.
I’m in love with this clear water and location

Thanks for showing a bit of the freshwater world too! Its great

Amazing! I was told there are devils in those dark and bottomless caves. But turns out there are full of life and magnificent views down there.

Dear Jonathan I am your biggest fan I watch all your videos I've always wanted to scuba dive with you
Thanks!!
Solemn place underneath the cave. Crystal clear water. How amazing is God for making these creations. 😱😍
The first time I saw a short film on cenote diving, I was entranced by this purity of the water that made you feel that the divers were flying. In some areas, there were different layers of water, due to different densities as they were approaching the coast so I believe the salt water and the different temperatures all played a part in causing this phenomenon. Fascinating world.
It’s called the Halocline effect.
@@antovarguez thanks for the information. Nice word to know.

absolutely amazing ! I wish I could visit that place someday ....
Imagine if the whole ocean was clear
Clear means no bacteria, some bacterias are very useful in sustaining n creating aquatic lives, so be grateful that our sea isnt clear :D
Actually, 99% of the water that makes up Earth's oceans is crystal clear. There are many things that effect the level of clarity in the Earth's oceans and bacteria is a non-factor when it comes to water clarity. I am assuming that VOK is talking about Bacterioplankton which are so small they have little to no effect to water clarity.
Also, Life is only created by God not bacteria.
@@PH_INFO_101 life is created by evolution not god

Omg what a beautiful world
A clear water inside the cave....so amazing! The hidden paradise....
Clearlake , Ca has blind white catfish. There is a folklore story that Mt Konocti , the inactive volcano that sits next to the lake. Has a cave and empty open area that they are in.... supposedly someone dropped a painted can in the volcano top and it surfaced in the lake weeks later.

What if the lights stop working
That would be bad. Fortunately, cave divers carry a whole lot of extra lights.
Reading this gave me anxiety
@@BlueWorldTVcave divers carry a whole lot of extra lights!? That would be very heavy.
To add up, if it happens that all the lights are out forever, then those unknown bones would be getting a company sooner or later.
