What I don’t often see mentioned that I think is crucial to understand is that without the science of the anesthetist, those boys would’ve died. There was absolutely no way to dive them out without the sedation, no matter how experienced the cave divers were. Also, the fact the coach was able to keep them alive and somewhat calm and healthy so not one of them was lost in those three weeks is absolutely amazing. So much teamwork went into this rescue it’s truly incredible
I think that they were all a team and friends helped too + they sound like very simple kids. No wonder they didn't panic a lot. Must be cuz they are country side simple folk
The kids and the coach played a huge part in rescuing themselves. They didnt panic or do anything rash. Survival relied on them staying calm and patient. I can't imagine what it must have been like in the dark, cramped place with no food and just rain water to drink for hours much less WEEKS. The the Thai nurse and doctor who stayed with them and who AREN"T cave divers also deserve massive credit.
Absolutely! Even the most elite cave diving rescuers, such as Ed Sorenson will tell you, panicked people will kill you under water. It takes massive, specialized training to cave dive. Those boys would've panicked and probably killed themselves and the navy seals. I use to open water dive and the first time you go underwater, especially when visibility is almost zero, it will make experienced divers panic. Listen to how scared the navy seals divers were and you don't get much more elite than that
Until I watched this documentary last night… I’d never heard that they anesthetize the boys to get them out of the cave. I was shocked an surprised by that.
when this news broke out in 2018 I didn't really watch it a lot. Saw the Netflix film last night & someone said to watch this & other videos which are much more better than the Netflix one.
When this whole rescue operation was being planned, I used to wonder what could be so difficult in getting people out of a flooded cave. Now that I have seen the 3D visuals, I can understand how much effort and planning had gone into the whole rescue ops and the selflessness shown by every single diver. Nothing but respect for the entire rescue team.
No joke, just looking at the 3D model makes me want to faint. I already know about this rescue, but seeing the accurate renders really puts the danger into perspective. Those hero divers were phenomenal!

It's amazing that Dr. Richard Harris, the cave diving anesthesiologist who was crucial to the sedation plan wasn't mentioned at all in this documentary. I know that different documentaries had access to different people involved in the rescue, so you don't see Richard Scranton and John Volanthen being interviewed here but you do see them being interviewed in the National Geographic film, The Rescue, but at least they were mentioned here. Dr. Harris was described by many as the lynch pin of the operation. And no, I'm not Australian.

Ill never ever get tired of hearing this story and all the different documentaries that tie in different perspectives such artistry, physical skills, digitals skills and powerful storytelling. I once was religious and turned away from the church to seek God on my own terms. THIS coincidentally was the story that God spoke to me through. A religious place of worship happens to flood at the same time as 13 young boys happen to be caught in it. They SURVIVE and the truth behind it seems almost impossible to wrap around anyones head. The fact that all political conflict could halt just to save these boys. I am a staunch believer in science and yet only God's powerful hands could have made this be the case. The brave navy seal who lost his life in this pursuit did not die in vain. I truly believe God will reward him for his part in this.

Every time I watch a rescue or any tragedy where several COUNTRIES come together I get teary eyed. I was active duty army during 9/11. When I say we came together as a world civilians don’t know how much 9/11 really affected us soldiers. I want the world like that daily but I’ll take this blessing. Those poor babies!

My palms and feet were sweating watching this, I am so so glad that they went out alive and the divers that went for help risking their lives too were just beyond words amazing. Do some research it wasn't actually them that took the biggest risk it was the actual 2 divers that laid the guide rope. That means they had no rope and went in blind under water basically. The brits returned after the hardest riskiest part was done Google 13lost it's a documentary that reveals the other 2 divers that did the riskiest part.
@@michaelsocha7068 and i think the 2 person that laid the rope are the brits, the two brits were the first one to found them and the only who use their only oxygen left to return to still search for the the kids and went the deepest before anyone else even enter so do some research
@@Radamchui That is true, but if you watch the documentary "The Rescue", the brits at one point gave up, and it was the americans and I think a belgian who kept laying line. They later convinced the brits to keep going with them, and the brits were able to push the last leg and find the boys.
I can't swim. And watching this makes me so scary but at the same time i feel emotional of how people comes together in times of needs. This is inspiring too.

I've been watching The Rescue, which features interviews with the rescuers, and The Trapped 13, which features interviews with the lads. Seeing and hearing all sides of the story still astounded me.
Drain the oceans is the best most interesting learning show I ever watch in my 40years of life, I’m so in to each and every episode that airs, that any professor can test me on multiple shows on one test and I would ace it gettn all answers correct 100% this is what life is about, all aspects of life coming together as humans should to help one another, not wars and death and food shortages 🙏🏾🙏🏾I pray for the Middle East and Ukraine 🙏🏾🙏🏾
This was an incredible rescue operation with the help of technology and the bravery, skills and compassion of the divers. Risking your life for someone even if not your relatives or people you don't even knew, was amazing and admirable. Thank you God, there were still good people in this world.
I watch this in 24th Jan 2025 after watching Nadia Omara. I will not called them as a "rescuer", for me, they are truly an angel and a hero. I hope all the goverment respect all the hero that rescue all the boys. God bless you all the hero. Truly miracle happened on this case.
Its incredible that all 13 made it out. A ton of things could have gone wrong on those rescue dives and in the anesthetic procedure. They basically just tried something that would have taken a decades of papers and experiments to try to prove feasible. The cave by itself is challenging for experienced cave divers. But they had to carry an unconcious child, make sure they didnt dislodge their mask even slightly, make sure they held the line in zero visibility, go through constrictions, make it through each section in time to resupply gas, make sure the boys were breathing, AND inject them with sedative if they starting show signs of gaining conciousness. The amount sheer nerve over 4 hours must have been exhausting.
Hats off to the rescue team. I'm surprised how were those boys still alive being submerged travelling through the cave for more than a mile. Also they survived inside the cave for 10 days until they were found. Wow.
Respect to all the divers and rescue personnel that risked their lives and devoted their time to rescue the boys. Glad most of them made it out alive and well. Rest in peace to the 2 rescuers who died.
I have an insane amount of respect for rescue divers. The way they so bravely put their lives on the line in so many situations. I feel like it’s not talked about enough.
I'm currently living in Chiang Rai for education purpose and went to visit the cave without knowing anything about this story. I heard some people talking about it when I was passing by and I searched it on YT. Here this is still a magical experience after 6 years which actually deserves another 5 years and more. 👏👏👏

You couldn't have written this in fiction if you tried. This is the craziest story. Tops all other rescue stories and mountain tragedies. And it's [sofa king] scary! This reaffirmed my solid plan in life to never dare in a cave without a guide.
I can't understand how a coach could take such a big risk... bringing so many children with him into a cave with a dangerous path. Luckily these children had the endurance and courage to survive and God sent many people to save them
In Thailand, the culture is quite different from the West. The coach was a young adult in his twenties, and the kids involved were from the village. The monsoon arrived earlier than usual, and the cave was a common place for the children to have fun together. No parents blamed the coach for this unfortunate event; in fact, everyone was incredibly grateful for what he did for their kids over the course of nearly two weeks. It’s important to understand people from different backgrounds and cultures. Thank you!

3 hours to get to the boys then leave with one each by a 30 minute margin window & again 3 hours back. Total of 6 and half hours daily for four boys.

I watch this in 24th Jan 2025 after watching Nadia Omara. I will not called them as a "rescuer", for me, they are truly an angel and a hero. I hope all the goverment respect all the hero that rescue all the boys. God bless you all the hero. Truly miracle happened on this case.

Its incredible that all 13 made it out. A ton of things could have gone wrong on those rescue dives and in the anesthetic procedure. They basically just tried something that would have taken a decades of papers and experiments to try to prove feasible. The cave by itself is challenging for experienced cave divers. But they had to carry an unconcious child, make sure they didnt dislodge their mask even slightly, make sure they held the line in zero visibility, go through constrictions, make it through each section in time to resupply gas, make sure the boys were breathing, AND inject them with sedative if they starting show signs of gaining conciousness. The amount sheer nerve over 4 hours must have been exhausting.
Hats off to the rescue team.
I'm surprised how were those boys still alive being submerged travelling through the cave for more than a mile. Also they survived inside the cave for 10 days until they were found. Wow.
Respect to all the divers and rescue personnel that risked their lives and devoted their time to rescue the boys.
Glad most of them made it out alive and well. Rest in peace to the 2 rescuers who died.
I have an insane amount of respect for rescue divers. The way they so bravely put their lives on the line in so many situations. I feel like it’s not talked about enough.
Those divers are absolute heroes. Everybody needs to know their names.

I'm currently living in Chiang Rai for education purpose and went to visit the cave without knowing anything about this story. I heard some people talking about it when I was passing by and I searched it on YT. Here this is still a magical experience after 6 years which actually deserves another 5 years and more. 👏👏👏

You couldn't have written this in fiction if you tried. This is the craziest story. Tops all other rescue stories and mountain tragedies. And it's [sofa king] scary! This reaffirmed my solid plan in life to never dare in a cave without a guide.

I can't understand how a coach could take such a big risk... bringing so many children with him into a cave with a dangerous path. Luckily these children had the endurance and courage to survive and God sent many people to save them
In Thailand, the culture is quite different from the West. The coach was a young adult in his twenties, and the kids involved were from the village. The monsoon arrived earlier than usual, and the cave was a common place for the children to have fun together. No parents blamed the coach for this unfortunate event; in fact, everyone was incredibly grateful for what he did for their kids over the course of nearly two weeks. It’s important to understand people from different backgrounds and cultures. Thank you!
