IMO 100 HP is the sweet spot for a sportbike for street for casual use.
not really. it's the sweet spot for a naked maby but not a sport bike. to low power
@@rampage3337 So you like to ride around in 1st gear and second gear most of the time then? Because you do that with ZX6 and bigger. In the city, you will never get it out of first gear unless you have a death wish. Its overkill. No different than having a Dodge Challenger with 600+ HP for a daily vehicle. Its pointless. I believe in freedom. You are free to do it. Its just pointless to do so.
Absolute perfect power for street use.
@@spartanx169x I disagree. I had a 2016 675 street triple making around 105 hp and yes, if you constantly rev it out of course you’ll be doing illegal speeds, but if you like riding around on torque you can definitely handle more power. We also have some fast twisties around here and there have been plenty of corners where I could’ve used more pull to get out of a corner. I personally would say around 120-130 hp is the sweetspot for road use.
@@juliusjacob1416 but a street triple isn't a sport bike, it's a naked. Most sport bikes are +120 and the RS660 comes under, but it's still very usable power.
I appreciate the bike geometry and engine graphics in this video. Great work Bob.
Great video. Got a 21 plate last year absolutely love it.
Great review. Nice to meet you, a chat about it not long after you'd jumped off the bike 👍
I have a 2016 Tuono RR, I love it. From what you say I would love that one also. Great review, keep it up!
I agree with everything you said. I got mine in October 21 and I love it!
I own Tuono 660 Factory. Well balanced bike! Such a joy to ride, super flickable and agile. It's small hooligan beast which pops wheelies too easily :) Enough power to have fun, both street or track!
I'd love to throw a leg over one of these. Haven't been a huge fan of the Aprilia front end designs, but they're starting to grow on me! Solid video yet again 👌
Great to hear your thoughts Bob. Thank you. 👍😎🇦🇺
Great video as always, mate! I purchased a heavily discounted new RS660 just after last Christmas 2022 & love everything about the bike! The looks, the tech, the handling! Only one problem; I’m still running her in so can’t unleash that top end power yet! My favourite bit in the 120 miles I’ve done so far is the cruise control, which is fantastic & a useful feature on a middle weight sports bike! And I’m definitely going to fit a tail tidy from Evotech to make it look even more awesome! ❤️😎👍
Genuinely one of the best, if not THE best bike, I’ve ridden in the last 12 months. Enjoy!
Four months and you’ve only done 120 miles?
@@evoermine- Right!? I’ve put 14,800 miles on my bike in 16 months of ownership… granted, I guess im kinda ‘honeymooning’ with the moto lifestyle, but I ride every chance I get…
Aprilia really upping its game. For an exotic bike it’s a bargain. You see Hondas and Yamahas on every corner. All bikes are dependable nowadays
Maybe in Europe, in Aus it’s a rip off, it’s almost the same price as a Panigale.
@@jdam28k Panigale ? There's no way, how much is RS 660 and how much is the cheapest Panigale there ? it's 11.700 EUR (RS) to 20.200 EUR (Panigale) in Germany.
@@DoctorStrange01 rs660 is $22k aud Panigale is 25k new, they used to be 24k as well! if the rs660’s price was at the Euro exchange rate it would be $18k Aud. There is some fuckery going on for sure.
@@jdam28k Lmao ok, that makes no sense then. I guess Aprilia is more like a Bentley than Audi in Australia then.
@@DoctorStrange01 not really haha you can pick up a used v4 for less than a used 660 it’s really just this model for some reason.
I can tell you're sold, the livery of these Italian bikes always amazing, love it, although I'm not a sports bike rider 😄
I almost got an RS660 but I ended up spending just a tiny bit less by getting a used 2019 Ducati Supersport S with low milage and perfect service history. I think new RS vs used Supersport S is a nice comparison. A lot of the other comparisons I find a bit dull because the Aprilia is much better for just a bit more money
if you are ok with getting used then the aprilia ain't worth shit. non of the new mid size sport bikes are worth shit these days anymore.
How’s the heat on the SSS? Beautiful bike but concerned about summer commuting on it.
Depends, it's hot when it gets upwards of 25C here in Norway. But only hot for your legs, the bike is fine. And only at standstill. If you do 10km/h and above you dont notice it. Also leather riding gear makes it less noticable. I feel it mostly when using riding jeans. I love the bike and I'm used to older aircooled Ducati's so I dont mind.
Also I have the full Akra on mine with undertail pipes. Those give of a little heat, but not in a bad way at all
That is an epic bike. Thanks for the great review.
I've always felt the perfect sports bike for the street was the GSXR 750
Uhh no. It's lacking in electronics and the seating position is too aggressive.
Aprilia is like my first Love ever since i was i child and an Engineer who was working for Aprilia and he owned one at that time in India, it was a great satisfaction to see it in our roads. He then gave me a poster since i was full of curiosity, now i have a Honda CBR 650.
How does that make you feel
@@PsyKotyK Probably if all things go as planned, I will sell my current bike and buy the newest Aprilia 660. I would be very happy with it.
1/4 million subscribers , definitely remember the 2500 subscriber days (good work Bob) ; Love the idea of the rs660 - Aprilia have revamped themselves & are growing nicely - used your Speedoangels 20% code for the rs660's bigger brother the RSV4 yesterday - excited to pick it up for this coming season
Got mine late August of last year. Funny thing is that I got an R3 as my very first bike 3 weeks earlier then picked this bad boy up and never looked back. I love everything about this bike aside from the odd sound from the rear brake. As a newish rider I'm still just only scratching the surface with this machine and loving every second of it.
yeah rear brake sqeaking will go away after some time it did for me
how is it being so light, do you get thrown around on the highway?
@@dabz9707 nope rides really smooth
@jg62190 Still thinking it was a good choice to get so early in your career?
Love the content!
Love all the safety stuff
Iam really glad I bought an rs 660. The 100 HP are more than enough for dayly use and some tours on the weekends the power is there when it needs to be. Even traffic is comfortable, the only downside I experienced is that you need some additional parts, but tbh this is like it with Évry bike I for myself got heated grips a different licence plate holder the navigation system it's worth it in my opinion but really different to normal motorcycle navigation or google maps and a lower suspension all in all iam so glad I got the rs 660 over the R1 the only thing that is a bit of a pain is finding neutral. This comes from someone who loves super sport bikes so be aware but I would say the rs is a good touring bike tours around 5 to 6 hours are really comfortable in comparison to the R1 or S1000 RR my longest tour was around 500km in one go. My back needet some stretching but all in all I was pretty fit afterwards.
Thx for this man I’m in the market and this was insightful 🤜🏾🤛🏾
awesome bike i can see aprilia developing on this platform maybe a 760cc or even an 860cc with that perfect 120bhp/130bgp power out put just to ruffle the feathers on the 890 duke r
Love the look and underbelly exhaust
Thanks for the video, love your content. What is your take on the Aprilia RS 660 vs 2023 Street Triple RS vs Ducati Streetfighter V2 please? Cheers.
Own one, it’s a gem.
Hey quick question, do you still have the bike? If you do, how has it been so far?
Love my Tuono 660 Factory
Keep up the good work
🎉 good to see you
just drove one today my buddy bought ..hell of a bike i like it
Great Vid! The 660 looks the business but the 23 RSV4 1100 has me wowed! I was going to purchase a Bayliss V2 but after seeing the RSV4 I dunno anymore then the 23 BMW S 1000R also awesome. For the price point the options are 😵💫 plenty of awesome but how to choose is stomach crunching… I wish you could test these bikes to help or with your vast knowledge and experience drop some advice? My last bike, Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer 800….
I'm buying all of em'
I'd love to get a demo ride on a RS660....cool bike!
It's a well balanced bike. Flickable, sporty, comfortable. Some of the best ergos I've felt. And 100 hp is more than enough unless you intend on breaking the law frequently.
Who rides a motorbike and doesn’t break the speed limit every time they go out? Serious question.
@@Mockle07 lots of responsible riders. If I want to go crazy, I take it to the track.
@@nismospec2649 I’m not talking about going mental, but are you honestly telling me you don’t go over 50 on the many 50mph B roads or over 70 on dual carriageways?! 😂
For many years Aprlia have made the most beautiful looking bikes. To me that is an all round desirable bike. I have never had a modern bike with all the electronic gizmo's. Never tried switching modes. Traction control, Quick shifters, Nothing. Still ride. I have two bikes. Not sure how I would get on with all the technology. But it would be nice to try on that.
i test rode a shiver 750 i wanted to buy. it had rain and other power modes. i'd say power modes are stupid unless youre riding a 150+hp bike. ABS is good in the rain and traction control can save you from slides. definitely worth it if you take risks. quick shifter seems pointless. if youre racing you can do clutchless upshifting anyway. and if youre sensible and skilled you can honestly do without any rider aids at all, learn how the bike works within a few weeks and youll be fine.
Great content just subbed. Would love to see a review of the lexmoto lxr 125 (best selling sports bike of 2020 UK)
Or the LXS
spoke to the mechanics in aprilia dealerships here in Australia. parts can take 14 WEEKS to arrive from europe. 14 WEEKS!! THATS AN ENTIRE SEASON
I do have a remaining question, i love the bike but i am still wondering about the ride height i am 1m67 and was wondering if would be rideable for my height. How tall are you and do you think this bike is suited for shorter riders? Great video!
In a parallel twin, both pistons reach top dead center at the same time.
In a parallel twin where the pistons move up and down at the same time, the crankshaft angle is 360 degrees.
Would like to hear in person it being banged rapidly through the gears and then at top speed holding 6th just under redline... sustained of course.
Beautiful bike
Its a beauty!
That's a really nice lookin' bike.
Hi Motobob, do you know if there's any difference between the chassis geometry of the RS and Tuono? Do they handle the same? I recently rode a 2018 Aprilia Shiver 900 and was mighty impressed with it's handling on tight, twisty curves.
Not sure but I tried a Shiver recently and was surprised by how good it was. What a bike! Made me want one…
I think the rake angle is slightly different, and power is down to 94hp
I wanted to watch because I’m looking at the R9T pure. Both the same price here in the states. I’m hoping to get some good info.
6:33 I think most people will agree that the R7 looks just as good as the RS660. I wouldn't say "desirability" is part of the R7's main problems. I would rather insist on the lack of top-end horsepower.
If Yamaha released a similar bike based on the MT09's CP3 engine, I would pick it over the RS660 in a heartbeat.
yep to me r7 is the better looking and more desirable bike since I hate the tail light of the rs660, as you said top end power, reliability and my personal downside is the 835mm seat height. blipper, cruise control, lower seat height and power is the positives of rs660 imo.
I think if ducati supersport updated their looks and added cruise control, it would take its place at the top.
i agree. the R7 being a very slim and sleek design is for me the biggest appeal of that bike. the engine is great just no top end power. if i had to chose between a RS660 and an R7 I'd definitely take the yamaha. a colleague had an MT07 with 130,000km and not a single issue meanwhile these aprilias have a reputation already. it's not like the CP2 engine is a slouch, just lacks crazy top speed.
Nice vid & I do really like this bike but holding out for a Factory version like the Tuono.
that's probably the "Extrema" version...
@@fastaussieI looked in to that when it came out & it's basically a paint job & new exhaust, which saves 3kg but doesn't add any power oddly. Everything else appears to be the same as standard apart from some bodywork mofs to fit the different exhaust. Suspension is supposedly the same as standard & the fully adjustable suspension is what I'd be after so hopefully they sort that out sooner rather than later with a more conventional & better spec Factory model.
i think that's as good as it's going to get@@ragerider6283. if Aprilia made a Factory version of the RS like they do the RSV4 it'd be too expensive...
@@fastaussie Well the Tuono Factory is only about £400 more than the standard version & that gets you a lithium battery (-2kg) & fully adjustable suspension front & rear so it's not a true Factory version really but is an genuine upgrade & not much more expensive.
Brilliant bike, but I went with the CBR650R. I really wanted a four cylinder, and Honda can't be beat in terms of reliability.
My friend rides an RS660 and he loves it, but he says it vibrates like hell
I have the Tuono 660 and love it. I’ve put 12k miles on it already
I would rather have the Tuono, more comfortable for casual riding.
12k miles is decent - would love to hear about reliability?
@@motobob First of all, I’m a big fan and greatly enjoy your videos! Well, the engine had to be replaced under warranty, so not too great at first!
One of the pistons or cylinders was the wrong size and killed the engine at 10k mile mark. I’m not too mechanical, so I don’t know exactly what the problem was. I was having rough throttle input and other issues with the first engine, probably because the gas/air ratio couldn’t be managed properly. It’s been great since the engine was replaced! 😅
This is the bike that everyone hyped up when it came out and it kinda fizzled out honestly. On paper it looks great, loads of tech, styling is pretty good and the price is somewhat fair and I would like to see it up close but I haven't seen one in the flesh in Japan.
It's hard to see one even in Europe. Never seen one either. I'd love to.
I see way more Japanese or German bikes, than Italians. I guess not many people want to take the gamble.
Seems gorgeous nevertheless
More fun than a 890 Duke r?
I do love the look of that 660!
probably not but with this Aprilia you mostly have problems with oil leaks from all the seals. With KTM everything is a problem. BTW that's how you spot not so great reviews- they don't mention well known problems of the bike in question.
@@hagestad I have 3 x 660.
2x tuono 1x RS.
The first since 2020! A lot of miles and zero problems/FAIL or anything! Great bikes 😍😍
Some plastics on the early RS 660 examples looked cheap especially the one that looked like carbon fiber. Aprilia seems to have sorted that issue.
Cool bike 🏍 😎
700 miles on my limited edition 2022. Freaking love this bike. The sound is addicting even with stock pipe. Torque is great, top end is great. The power dip from 5-7k kinda annoys me, but I've heard a tune fixes this. Can't wait to get it on track. Up and down quickshift/autoblip works flawlessly. Also cruise control is incredible on a sports bike...freaking love it.
I have a tuono 660 and I love it. That dip in power really is annoying though
@@ozzie4306 i love the power dip it almost feels like 2 stroke hitting power band
A masterpiece. Aprilia. ❤
Is this a bike I could get after my direct access course?
I’ve been riding a Sinnis GPX 125 for 6 months since I’ve passed my cbt. Il probably have 10 months of experience by the time I get my next bike.
I have a couple of buddies that got the 2021 models and it was nothing but headaches with expensive repairs for them so I wonder if the 2022+ are better made.
most likely not. aprilia is not a good bike to get. they are not among the common bikes on the road so not only reliability problems but also problems with getting the shit fixed sometimes. non of the more rare non mainstream brands are really worth it for someone who just wants a bike. they are more of a have multiple bikes kind of bike where you have it because you can afford it and can afford multiple bikes so why not have one in the collection.
Do u guys have Aprilia 125 cc dualsoprts ?? I forget the models rx or sx something they sell those in Nepal not in india
Had a test ride and thought it was great. But I think the perfect ‘sportsbike’ for the road is actually a sporty naked like a MT-10, KTM 890 or a Street Triple! If you want a proper sportsbike experience, buy a sportsbike with a high revving engine. I reckon the new Kawasaki ZX4RR might be worth a look for a fun road sportsbike that you can thrash as sensible road speeds. Regardless, the Aprilia was still a brilliant bike!
Yes, sporty naked bikes are the way to go for street-riding.
yeah the nez zx4RR looks amazing. it ain't just the lack of power that pisses me off about the new sport bikes. it's the fact that they lack the soul and characteristics needed to be a sport bike. they are not sport bikes because they don't follow the recipe. so yeah you right because what people want sports bikes to be is what naked bikes are. no need to be extra uncomfortable in a uncomfortable seating position just so you can look like a loser poser who thinks he owns a sport bike and does sport bike shit but in reality just does low speed naked bike shit.
ZX4RR is amazing if you're a midget. Surely not for anyone taller than 6ft/180cm.
@@DoctorStrange01 at 6ft, im waiting to get my hands on a zx4rr. and i dont care if i look like a gorilla on a pit bike 🤣 im doing this biking shit to have fun, not impress anyone
@@180FiftyFive it's not about impressing someone, it's about the position on a bike 🤦🤦 if you're big and the bike is too small for you, good luck to you. All cramped up and awkward, the fact that you'll look on it like on a mini bike is just a side effect.
I have to test ride it still... but when I stand next to it, its absolutely tiny...
Wonder how it feels to sit on with 187cm...
My CBR 600F has the pegs so high that I can lift my feet about 1 - 2 cm when I have them on there...
I wonder how it would be on this Aprilia...
I'm thinking about switching to this bike from my current Z1000SX. Something lighter and more agile would be nice. Seems like I have to test ride one of them. Only all these reliability related comments make me wonder if this is a right choice.
I don't like Italian bikes bc of the reliability issues( I think reliability should always be #1 importance)...but I have to appreciate the hell out of Aprilia, they're beautiful and they don't go overboard with the branding, simple logo, and the bike doesn't say aprillia every two inches 😂
Can you carry a passenger behind? Is it comfortable
How would you compare the 660 to the Zx650?
It's an EXCELLENT bike to get used to a sports bike on the road. A Liter+ sports bike is an absolute overkill on the road, this one is just right for it. It's light, nimble. The torque comes low in the revs. The riding position is comfortable but aggressive enough to learn to get quick in the curves and drag your knees. It's close to a sports bike, chassis-wise. You can make day long tours with it. It doesn't use much fuel. It has cruise control. The price is ok, a bit on the high side but it's worth it. The brakes are not perfect, but they brake hard enough (just the feeling is not perfect, but it's decent). I made 6 months with it, 10'000 km and hat no problem, then I swapped for a liter bike (which is a stupid thing if you're barely track-daying but I'm not smart at all so I have an excuse). The only negative points is the painting which is really stickers that come easily off when you wash insects away.
I took one for a test ride for a whole day , I’m 54 and it had me screaming woohuuuu UCK me yeeaah on numerous occasions .
Loves to be thrashed .
Suffered those , I hurt all over for the next 3 days .
Sat on it , it’s ugly as sin but it’s a proper fun bike .
Not perfect but definitely well done APRILIA it gives you a big smile .

Aprilia will launch 440 cc bike in India on the same platform in September.
I hope that bike will not be way different from this because this is the best bike in this segment and i would love to own such bike in 440 cc avtar.
The rear is really too small. I loved the proportions of the RS250 so maybe if the RS660 had a 20% larger tail section it would have been nicer to the eyes.
Most sportbikes nowadays unfortunately lack ass
What about comparison to zx4rr now that it is out?
has anyone put any serious miles on theirs? would love to hear any long-term owners opinions and if youve had any issues
I wish an English speaker would do a comparison of the Tuono 660 Factory and the Monster 937. Aprilia makes great bikes but reliability seems to be an issue.
I am impresse
Great bike, love mine. Two biggest weaknesses is the stock master cylinder which is an esy upgrade, and the rear shock is a little simplistic. That upgrade is little more costly. The raceECU flash is must do for the US spec version, not sure how lawful the ecu flashes go in the UK.
Why do you say it's a must do?
@@godlyobject6509 the stock tune leaves a giant plateau in the power band to meet euro noise/emissions. the race ecu tune optimizes that deficiency.
@@flip_moto Ah, okay. Thanks for the response.
What issue have you noticed with the stock master cylinder? I am also annoyed with it, but not seeing a lot of others having issue with it, so I am wondering if you are seeing the same issue with it that I am seeing. Thanks.
@@adamharnois7072 no issues, just not great for the track. But the longer answer: ride a rsv4 or tuona v4, its clear the RS has lower quality brakes (for obvious reasons). I thought it was pads or lines, but the master upgrade moved the needle the most. And if that didn't, I would have upgraded calipers, but that is the most expensive improvement out of the four options.
Reliable for bikes and cars is that the bike or car won't leave you stranded in the middle of the road. Help will be awarded right away the vehicle disappoints. Only thing a Indian will say wrong is he or she will say accelerator instead of throttle.😮
A fair bike all round, but for the sometimes horrible fueling, and being a bit underwhelming in power output. No dealer or factory support. Yes, parts are almost impossible to come by. Mine was delivered by EuroCycle without the optional seat cowl. Doubt I will ever see it....
At 2:37 what comes out to the ground from the front of the bike?
Is it considered a supersport bike or a sport touring?
Try tuono 660 factory!!
Own this - it’s perfect.
Might be my next bike
I’m currently trying to buy one of these. Just can’t seem to get an Aprilia dealer to sell me one for some reason lol
I had issues getting test rides, some excuse about road tax.. I went to another dealership and bought something else.
I'm thinking about getting my first bike, and my two choices are either an R7 or an RS 660. The 660 is a better bike, but it's 3k more and I don't want to worry about reliability. The R7 is a worse bike, but it's more reliable and costs 3k less. If I do get a bike it won't be for a few months, so I have plenty of time to think about it.
New Hornet Honda should be reliable. With 92 hp and low weight. Or new suzuki gsx-8s 80 hp and lot of torque and i think 7 year warranty.
You don't have ZX6R where you're from? I ride 2023 ZX6R myself but I would love to add a 660 to the stable
Good video, but you forgot the Ducati SuperSport as a potential competitor.
Exotica for the road. Plenty of power.
can these be lowered?
We still have all those 600s here in the States. The R6 is race only though.
not really. they are not new bikes they are the same old bike except with a 2023 date stamped on them and maybe a new colour. they just selling out the rest of what they got until they are all gone. so those are just old stock bikes
Is there a sound clip ?
I always wondered why bikes 90-100 hp should be blunt or be mediocre in terms of handling. Or why can't you have an everyday bike being able to play on the twisties and go out on small trips (usually the best twisties are far from town, anyway).
For me the reliability is first that's why I don't experiment with the one's with questionable reliability.
18k on the clock. no issues.

Really can't wait for KTM, Yamaha, to drop their sub-Liter bike class, road friendly Supersports in YZF-R9 and RC 990 form. As awesome as this bike is, it feels like 130-140 HP naked bike derived Supersport-lite bikes, with more road going ergonomics, and gobs more USABLE torque down low, without completely unnecessary Literbike top end, would be a beautiful, natural evolution of the Supersport class, as the 600's are sunset.
It's not just that no one actually "needs" 150+ HP for the street, it's that it's actually a hindrance, unnecessarily dangerous, and still ultimately impossible to fully utilize. So why pay for a bunch of power you'll never actually be able to use, when you can get the best of naked bike low end torquey power, combined with still more top end performance than 99% of owners will ever even be able to utilize on a closed track? All while being more comfortable!
As a z900 owner I can honestly say I probably use about 40% of its capabilities...glad I didn't get the 200hp zh2 🤷
How does the reliability compare to the bikes fromJapan?
It’s European bike ofc they’re not as reliable as japanese bike.
Best looking middleweight?! huh?! First thing first...Beauty in the eyes of the receiver!
R7 looking better so is CBR650 yes Aprilia 660 rs might look a bit better than Kawasaki ninja 650.
0-60 R7 is faster compared to all bikes I listedYes R7 does not have a top end. The reliability of Aprilia is on the bottom of the list on bikes I listed. Last Aprilia is the most expensive from bikes I listed. So no Aprilia is far from the perfect bike. Aprilia 660rs spent more time at the dealer shop than actually people rode it... prove me wrong !
The only bike I ever consider against this is a Ducati SuperSport but that thing is 160% of the price. So.
Most people who have had any minor issues were covered under warranty no questions no issues.
Had an Aprilia which had it's engine replaced 3 times. 😢 I loved the bike, but that was just too much for me. It is fun, but a hastle
