Hope this thing is the kick in the ass Kawa and Suzuki need to give their 650s some balls. A Ninja 750 triple would fit nice between the 400 and 1000 and I know the SV engine block can go to like 750cc. More sub 400lb 100HP standard bikes please
I've heard that it and its' Norton skinned sister are now eligible for IOM TT light weights, so it may be the push the big four and others need to follow suite.
I think the reason Kawi doesn’t do anything with the 650 is because of a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality. Also notice that the bike is more comfort oriented and I’d guess their 650 is a good selling bike for Kawi despite not being the most powerful of its class
Also keep in mind Kawi uses that 650 engine for its other bikes. I do feel they should make a more powerful engine to replace but emissions probably gonna bite them in the ass
If an Sv750SRA will be released, i'd instantly buy it. I love my k7 sv650sra, but it needs a less stretched seating position (less reach to the bars) and >80hp with the same character. I adore the Aprilia, but it should have had a V-twin!
I used to ride a Honda CBR600F4i, 2001 with similar horsepower. Super comfortable and was not intimidating as my first bike, This seems like that bike but for 2021, 20 years later and from a more premium brand. Would absolutely LOVE this bike.
Morning Mike lovejoy here the face book warrior lol you've given this bike a really good review and for me to think it's good is pretty good ,your spot on with the 200 hp thing on the rd I ride a m1000rr on the rd and as you say its only fun when your riding it at jail sentence speed so I think this little bike would be a cracker xx
I wish more manufacturers would bring back the 4 pot 750cc class pumping out around 150bhp for sensible money. It's the perfect balance between power / torque / top-end for the road. Basically a GSXR-750.
Agreed, 140-150 hp is the sweetspot....can still scratch an itch while being reasonable.....200 hp is insane Drag racing on a freeway is drag racing...... Do kinda wish Aprilia mad like 800cc version with 120-130 hp Triumph would be a great street bike as well I have the 890 R but the wind is brutal, that's where Aprilia shines...not too aggressive but has a fairing....
not sure how much the R6 is in the UK, but in the US the projected price of the RS660 is more than the R6 and MUCH MORE expensive than the current ZX6r (which is under 10k USD), and I just don't see how a parallel twin can compete or even compare at that price. Other than fancy electronics (which on a low output bike like this isn't really needed) I don't see the value proposition.
I like this bike a lot.. but i don't like those front turn signals incorporated in the headlight at 5:16. The lights must be big and clearly visible, especially on a motorcycle!!
Please encourage Yamaha to create a R7. It would be super easy, barely an inconvenience. Just take the MT-07 motor, and put it in a beafed up R3 chassis. Take the suspension and brakes from and R6. Give it the 1st gen R3 dash. It's the best dash ever. No need for TC. Just ABS and you should be good. Price it ubder 10k.
I've a Ducati SS as well. Would be interesting to see a comparison although a good few years development between them. Can't believe Neevesy said this would be more exciting than the Duc SS though. Better noise and slightly more power from the Duc with the same type of package: relatively light and balanced frame with sports bike looks and some comfort.
The RS660 sounds like a baby S1000RR - heated grips, decent ergos, excellent electronics pkg - but with snazzier clothes, a more soulful engine note, and usable power. Nice!
have any of the other non-BMW sportsbikes gained heated grips yet? I recall an older vid where Mr. Neeves had a good whinge about the other manufacturers not doing it
Nice as the 660 is, my answer to the over complex, over powerful for road hyperbikes was to buy an Aprilia Mille rsvr gen1. Loads of power and loads more torquey grunt than the 660 making the power delivery a lot more brutal...no electronic aids. Sublime chassis The most fun on 2 wheels you can have. Not as fast in a straight line as the latest superbikes but on road? You won't notice the difference. Best thing is you can buy a good one for less than half the price of a 660.
Rly? Id that a thing anymore? I own 2010 dorsoduro which i crashed twice (lowslide). Bike never had an issue... (even after crashes that is, with electronics noone else had at a time, throttle mapping)
I couldn't buy another aprilia. I had a 2015 tuono and it was never out of the garage. It wouldn't start when hot, the traction control went mental and even a side panel blew off. They're great when everything works but that isn't often.
Funny that when I look at the RS660 concept and the production RS660, the concept looks so gorgeous and the production model looks kinda less aggressive. But in side profile, they look virtually the same lol
I just wonder if some of the other manufacturers who used to rule this sector will wake up? A new decent mid range GSXR is way overdue, that RS660 has all the practical bits to make it the one bike you own as the Z750 and GSXR 750 used to be: foldable mirrors, a riding position that isn't painful and opportunities to tart your ride up to keep you interested. My nearest Aprilia dealer isn't close but I'm going to have a look at one!
Does seem a NO Brainier which one there going to sell more of over there! As long as insurance does not cripple you😱👍 That a amazingly low price point for the 1100👏👏
Like all new models you won't get discounts straight away, but by the end of next year, or the year after you'll get the usual discounts coming through I think, can't wait to pick one up when they're a smidge cheaper
Muz used to make a few dualsports, a supermoto and a couple smaller sportbikes with a tightened up Yamaha 660 single. Thinkin they'd be pretty hot in todays market.
Found a barely used 2021 model that I test road and quickly fell in love with as it seems to be everything I want in a motorcycle and more. I noticed a small oil leak on the motor casing and was told by both the mechanic and sales person that "it is no big deal." It made me hesitate signing on the line. I looked around the internet to discover that some of these bikes are plagued with leaks from different parts on the motor. Was this the case with the one I tested? How could I be sure? I would really hate to have buyers remorse. Better to be disappointed today that regretful tomorrow I suppose.
you sold me, I was looking to grab a new speed triple, but lets be practical. I have ridden fast and slow bikes... this is what I am looking for as an intermediate rider, who commutes to work and enjoys the occasional twistys.
its not just price which decide what sells but also ergonomics and overall usability , for normal daily use we don't need 200hp and super sporty position.
Excellent review, thanks! Could not agree more -- I think this race for 200hp+ bikes have kind of killed the market, in that they're totally impractical for the road, expensive and off-putting for may riders. It's great to see the middle-weight segment get a bit of a kick with this launch. This looks like great fun on the road, it's got good but manageable power, won't kill the back, and the pricing seems reasonable. Would love to see you guys do a long term loan/review of this one.
It's an interesting bike for sure. Think the RS660 might be in a more well-defined niche than the 660 Tuono, which will be going head-to-head with the 790 Duke and the Street Triple, which both have a displacement advantage and are likely to be a bit cheaper (unless you get the Street Triple RS). And the 660rs makes sense for racers if it qualifies in the 650 class. At 6'4" I'd be worried it was a bit small. The Ducati fitted me, when I tried that. Feel another test ride coming on...
I feel a dunce now for track prepping an fz 07 for the last 2 years. Is the ride different enough to justify keeping the FZ while picking this up, or should I trade in?
What took you so long Michael 😂😂 Looks a great little bike and I’m sure it’ll be tons of fun on a nice twisty road, only thing missing......it hasn’t got the potential to scare the crap out of you like a litre bike can 😳 and let’s face it, we all like a bit of an adrenaline rush now and again 😬!! Great review, some on board camera footage would have been nice to hear what it sounds like when your wringing it’s neck 👍
@1:41 If you are into the electronical gizmos and refined power delivery, it is good value for money. Otherwise, if performance is the value you are looking for there are better bikes available. @3:35 Peak power is at 10,500 rpm but at the same time it has enough power in the lower rev band. It is more refined, even though it lacks the power figures of a 600cc superbike. :)
This bike really has my attention! An exotic middleweight sport bike that is comfortable but still has all the goods. And it’s gorgeous!!!! I’ve heard elsewhere that it still has alot of the sound of the rsv4.
Another sensible review by Mr N. I really like the look of this bike and I think it will do really well or should do if riders are honest with themselves and admit they don't need more than 100bhp to have fun. Sure if you do lots of trackdays and are really fast you might want a quicker bike, but is it worth it for the cramped riding position? Perhaps that's just my age talking :) I think it will be worth a test ride, some people may actually like the parallel twin especailly as it's a 270 crank so will feel more like a v twin and more compact. My only hesistation would be the dealer network but maybe if it sells to the masses there will be more anyway :)
I’m going to Uni in September so I’m going to be selling my car and upgrading from the LXR 125 to a 600, if I pass my DAS🤞 and honestly been dreaming about an Aprillia for a while, I’m so close to finally getting one, this was a great review for me to see what I’ll be getting.
Neevesy...you might have mentioned the passenger seat...or lack thereof....they want a comfortable useable everyday sportbike but don’t equip it for a passenger? Please explain.
Just seen another review and they spoke about the overkill on the electronics too and said they'd have preferred less electronics and the money gone towards slightly better suspension
I think with a ECU tune and exhaust this will push 110+ hp, it has more torque which is available sooner and it weighs 20+lbs less than the rivals. They had to do the 100hp to meet regulations. This is a great bike.
Really interesting comments on this bike. So happy it is that good. Coming from an MT-07 which is a lot of fun, I had three choices : Triumph Street Triple R or RS, BMW S1000R which are way more powerful. I prefer to know my bike well before buying a new one and I better start by this RS660 before big power roadster. You got a new suscriber 🤘
Would 6’2”, 32” inseam fit comfortably on it. Probably wouldn’t get one because the nearest dealer is 3 hours away, but you never know. Currently on an MT-10, but considering a 790 Duke. Mainly to lose some of the top end that is going to cause me to lose my license someday. This bike looks like an awesome replacement if it fits my frame, but that dealership thing. And the 790 Dukes are listed for $8k at several dealers within reasonable driving distance, so that is another plus for the KTM. Although I much prefer the styling on the Ape.
So what your saying is, the ZX6-R is cheaper, would teach you more, and be a track weapon as you progress in your riding, or you could go with a middleweight naked if you want comfort on the road?
Well I know what bike I'm buying when I get a full licence! It's literally everything I want in a bike! In Australia you can't really use supersports so it's actually perfect
This bike is starting to grow on me though I still think it's a bit overpriced. I'll look forward to seeing a track comparison with the CBR650R. I tend to prefer the 4 cylinder sound and I already have a parallel twin touring bike, but an RS660 could be pretty intriguing if they ever offer incentives in the US.
I fully agree with you, I think if they would have given the engine just a smidge more capacity say another 100CCs and another 10-15hp then it would have really hit the sweet spot for me and feel like it’s worth the asking price. Perhaps we’ll have to wait for the Factory R model, or they’ll pull a KTM and offer an update a year after launch like they did with the 790/890 Duke.
@@jonathanhidalgo4591, exactly. With 15 more HP I could see this being very competitive at the price point. It would be down around 5 to 10 HP vs many 600 supersports but the extra torque in the RS660 would make up for that. I guess we'll see how the tuning/modding scene develops. Maybe Euro 5 locked some power away somewhere easy to access with a flash.
@@glsracer Agree. I'm hoping a flash and an exhaust will liberate another 10hp. As it is, I'd be hard pressed to trade my XSR900s power and acceleration and sound of my triple for the better handling and sporting appeal of the Aprilia.
So Aprilia, thinking modern sportsbikes are too fast and track-focused, make a road-orientated bike---which this tester said he rode without wanting more power or handling---and you guys want on-track comparisons and more power. #irony
@@weevilinabox Not exactly. While I like what Aprilia is aiming for with this bike, I feel like they may have gone too far the other way, at least for me anyway. I certainly don't want something track oriented and that you have to rev to close to redline to get moving. And while 100hp might be just enough is also not exciting. To me the best sweet spot in power/torque for road track is currently offered by the FZ09, 790/890 Duke, and Triumphs street triple and those are all 115-125ish hp bikes. Any one of these engines in that Aprilia would have my money.

Anyone who wants to teach their YT algorithm what to recommend to them and what not to. I'm glad I got the rec, but I understand the use case for a dislike.
I wonder whether the 660's can have the oil change message reset by the owner rather than by the dealer only. It's such a pain in the ass on the 2017+ 1100's to have to have the dealer do it
@@MyMednas Majority of users use it on the street and sometimes track. Just like the RS 660. IMO they should make a variant of it.
636 is THE bike. Not 650 which is a toy.
Always loved the 600cc class. Fun bikes.
If the amount of Aprilia's I've been seeing at track days lately us anything to go by this little package will be pretty popular.
i have watched this review so many times... this is my dream motorcycle.
👍Agreed, the Zx7r & Gsxr-750s were Awesome, Quick Enough! imho
Agreed, 140-150 hp is the sweetspot....can still scratch an itch while being reasonable.....200 hp is insane
Drag racing on a freeway is drag racing......
Do kinda wish Aprilia mad like 800cc version with 120-130 hp
Triumph would be a great street bike as well
I have the 890 R but the wind is brutal, that's where Aprilia shines...not too aggressive but has a fairing....
Waiting for the Touno version. Factory.
And it has a fuel gauge, yippee, well done Aprilia! Great review!
Neevsy great to see ya m8! Loved your work for the past 15 years since I returned to bikes after a 9 year hiatus.
not sure how much the R6 is in the UK, but in the US the projected price of the RS660 is more than the R6 and MUCH MORE expensive than the current ZX6r (which is under 10k USD), and I just don't see how a parallel twin can compete or even compare at that price. Other than fancy electronics (which on a low output bike like this isn't really needed) I don't see the value proposition.
I guess it appeals to people that wants usable power .
And don’t want to rev there heads of .
Its $11,299... which last I checked is less than a R6. Has more electronics, more usable torque, better ergos, and (imo) better looks.
If you don't get it, you don't get it.
Better electronics, better chassis tuning, more premium product, better sound (subjective, but those 270 twins sound fantastix)
World is bigger than USA.
Here in EU kawasaki 363 is 11.4K, R6 is 13K and aprilia rs660 11k. So difrent
I like this bike a lot.. but i don't like those front turn signals incorporated in the headlight at 5:16.
The lights must be big and clearly visible, especially on a motorcycle!!
Your reviews are the best!!!
I bought one as my 2nd track bike alongside my V4S Pani. I am excited to throw clips on's, rear sets, and Ohlins on her. Game on!
Finally a 5 min + video from neevesy.....!❤
strangely, the yellow really looks better than the other 2, and highlights the lines much better.

Great review - interested in the comparison to the Ducati as a current SS owner and sounds like i need to have a ride on one next year! :)
Ditto
I've a Ducati SS as well. Would be interesting to see a comparison although a good few years development between them. Can't believe Neevesy said this would be more exciting than the Duc SS though. Better noise and slightly more power from the Duc with the same type of package: relatively light and balanced frame with sports bike looks and some comfort.
Same hear. Wish he would have expanded on what he meant by “more involved than the Ducati”
SS is a naked bike.
@@ampm9771 no it's not. You're thinking of the Streetfighter.
I was going to get the cbr650r till I saw this one now im waiting till spring 2021 to get mine, this is going to be the longest winter 😩
You’re too big for this bike man.....lol
The RS660 sounds like a baby S1000RR - heated grips, decent ergos, excellent electronics pkg - but with snazzier clothes, a more soulful engine note, and usable power. Nice!
have any of the other non-BMW sportsbikes gained heated grips yet? I recall an older vid where Mr. Neeves had a good whinge about the other manufacturers not doing it
@@jsleeio I'm not aware of any stock from the factory.
@@atastefortheroad4475 I think it's actually an option now on the new base RR, standard on the M package, I think?
I know it's not a biggie but I can't see where it's mentioned that it heated grips?
So they've made a fantastic 660 now. When are we getting a SXV450/550 again? We need a new twin supermoto!
tuono 660 and a sxv with the Vtwin would be my dream garage
@@mala7794 Same. Tuono for the street/commute and SXV for my rampant racing addiction.
@@nyleen exacly
Nice as the 660 is, my answer to the over complex, over powerful for road hyperbikes was to buy an Aprilia Mille rsvr gen1. Loads of power and loads more torquey grunt than the 660 making the power delivery a lot more brutal...no electronic aids. Sublime chassis The most fun on 2 wheels you can have. Not as fast in a straight line as the latest superbikes but on road? You won't notice the difference. Best thing is you can buy a good one for less than half the price of a 660.
Great review as usual & useful I love that green !
Absolutely love your reviews 👍
Great motorcycle!!! Beautifully made and with good price. The top road sportsbike!!!
So many will hit the mini twin club scene. Good job Aprilia
The problem is aprilia's reliability and there is no dealers anywhere around me but looks cool
agreed, lack of dealers puts me off owning an electronics heavy Aprilia
Rly? Id that a thing anymore? I own 2010 dorsoduro which i crashed twice (lowslide). Bike never had an issue... (even after crashes that is, with electronics noone else had at a time, throttle mapping)
@@Boleslav69 use to he a thing atleast and with a whole new platform you never know. Just not for me is all
I couldn't buy another aprilia. I had a 2015 tuono and it was never out of the garage. It wouldn't start when hot, the traction control went mental and even a side panel blew off. They're great when everything works but that isn't often.
Finally a new bike without a black frame!!!! Bravo Italia!!!
I really think ktm have missed the boat here an rc 790 / 890 would be unreal !
In Canada you can get a new 2019 Tuono 1100 for $500 more. I don't know if they'll sell a lot at the price they've come up with.
In Canada the 2019 Tuono RR (the cheapest one) is 15,499$ so more like 4000$ more.
@@22Epic The 2019 Tuono is $13,990 at international motorsports in Vancouver. The 660 Canadian price is $13,549 .
@@getdownmikelove no point comparing a special offer with a retail price, the 660 will be available for less next year.
Things are looking good for the new rsv4 and tuono
Looks fantastic. I hope people buy them and keep the 600s going!
Muz used to make a few dualsports, a supermoto and a couple smaller sportbikes with a tightened up Yamaha 660 single. Thinkin they'd be pretty hot in todays market.
Excellent review as always.
Aprilia dealer network is dismal in the US. ZX6R is about $1000 less than RS660 in US.
you sold me, I was looking to grab a new speed triple, but lets be practical.
Street Triple or the RS660. Any takes or waiting on more tests?
I have a 765RS and I’m thinking the same thing... do I swap or maybe I add this to the stable :)
@@slash5k1 anyway I have to wait, winter season in canada haha, so plenty of test reviews coming
What took you so long Michael 😂😂
Looks a great little bike and I’m sure it’ll be tons of fun on a nice twisty road, only thing missing......it hasn’t got the potential to scare the crap out of you like a litre bike can 😳 and let’s face it, we all like a bit of an adrenaline rush now and again 😬!!
Love your reviews! Keep it up.
This bike really has my attention! An exotic middleweight sport bike that is comfortable but still has all the goods. And it’s gorgeous!!!! I’ve heard elsewhere that it still has alot of the sound of the rsv4.
Should ha e half of it at least, since its half a rsv4 engine lol
Another sensible review by Mr N. I really like the look of this bike and I think it will do really well or should do if riders are honest with themselves and admit they don't need more than 100bhp to have fun.
Sure if you do lots of trackdays and are really fast you might want a quicker bike, but is it worth it for the cramped riding position? Perhaps that's just my age talking :)
I think it will be worth a test ride, some people may actually like the parallel twin especailly as it's a 270 crank so will feel more like a v twin and more compact.
I've got a 2017 R6 and this look like my next buy!
A barebones edition without the fancy electronics would be cool. Just the modern essentials ABS, TCS just switchable.
Well if Kawi wont export the 6R to europe in 2021 due to euro5 regulations this is a nice replacement, although more expensive
Stock exhaust has to go before I leave with it from the dealer, it sounds okay but a aftermarket option like XVIL is better!
I think with a ECU tune and exhaust this will push 110+ hp, it has more
torque which is available sooner and it weighs 20+lbs less than the
rivals. They had to do the 100hp to meet regulations. This is a great
bike.
Thank you for review!
Love your videos lad
I think the entire motorcycle community was waiting for the motorcycle genious mike to speak about this,
I cant wait until they have an exhaust for this bike

Kawasaki should rework the ZX6R ergo all together to fit like the RS660 and keep the same price.
