    Sandy Munro would have a fit at the placement of the compressor. Put it on the LHS and save on all that cable.

    I'm thinking about one of these so that I can pack my own food on long trips. This is important for efficiency because I don't want to leave my car while charging and I'd want to be eating, restroom breaks, sleeping, or reading during charging.

    I don't get it, How do you access this thing while at a stop on your trip? You unload your car till you can access the panel then grab a few bottles and repack the car?
    So do you leave this thing plugged in and drain the battery overnight? hows the drain? minimal I hope.
    You can always run a regular ice cooler with minimal ice by freezing a couple bottles of water along with your unfrozen stuff and it'll stay chilly for 2 days without draining your battery or needing space for a motor/compressor/fan. It seems like dumping out ice water and cleaning a cooler is a pain, but you'd still need to clean out this fridge after each use cuz of condensation anyway. How does this thing conserve space when you can just put all the stuff you don't need at the bottom like sleeping bags or emergency-only equipment. I feel like this is a stretch, it's like putting your fridge in the garage and then being happy with all the space you saved while putting all your winter clothes in totes where the fridge was.

      Just an FYI……. This thing will NOT stay on in ANY condition you have your tesla powered to…. Camp mode, Dog mode, Sentry Mode, Keep Temp…. NOTHING. Honestly NOT worth the cost since you literally can only keep it cold while driving. What if you’re camping for a few days and need some cold?? NOPE!!! Not with this fridge. Decent product before Tesla killed the 12V outlet when the car is off. But I understand their safety concern.

      There is a video from Aussie Tesla that details how to tap into the center console 12v line and run a power cable under trim pieces and carpeting for a more stealth install.
      TBH it looks like a bit of a pain to do, but if you’re really concerned about it there are some DIY options for making it a little more aesthetically pleasing.

    New software defeats the frig! I have this refrigerator and it was great. Cold drinks anytime and can keep frozen food frozen when coming from the grocery. Now I'm angry that the last software update turns off the power to the outlets when the car is parked, even if Sentry mode is on. Now my frig is worthless. I just called and complained to Tesla but who knows if that will ever be reversed. It will work in camp/dog mode but I can't have my A/C on all day when parked at work. Anyone with a frig should join me in complaining to Tesla. I'm told older hardware versions still power the outlets when parked. I have HW4.

  • @zyver6784

    how much battery% it consumes per hr?

    • @208jdog
      @208jdog 5 місяців тому

      I would have to assume not much since it seems like it works similar to a chest freezer, those things use like almost no electricity

    • @brucegoetting8398
      @brucegoetting8398 18 днів тому

      Drains about 1% per day but you have to have Sentry mode on which takes another 1%. Now it doesn't matter, if you have HW4 anyway, because the newest software update de-powers the outlets when you're parked or charging at home so the frig is worthless.

      Please please don't sacrifice your financial freedom and well-being for a Tesla or any other car. I strongly recommend that you save up your cash in a good interest - bearing account until you have enough to purchase with cash. Don't be robbed paying interest. EVs will only improve with time so don't rush in before you can afford to pay cash. Best of luck to you! I went car-less for 5 years so that we got over the bubble in car prices. Finally just bought a new Model Y long range AWD. If at all possible, please please pay cash!

    Chris, I’m a follower and rarely post questions. But I do have many.
    1) what happens when you park the car? Will the cooler work overnight when the car is off?
    Or
    2) do I have to put the car in keep or camping mode to keep it on?
    3) the cooler will only absorb the electricity from the 12v battery?
    4) is the 12v battery recharged form the regenerative breaking system as well or only the car motor battery?
    5) and I think someone else here asked : how much voltage will it use from the 12v battery?
    6) is there a way to test the 12v battery health?
    Thank you!
