    Hey Food Box HQ Family! Today we're reviewing Tovala (the oven and meal delivery service). They're one of the most popular smart ovens on the market and for good reason! This little steam oven can do so much. Not only can it act as a regular oven to bake and broil foods, it can also toast or even just warm or reheat foods. We've reviewed Tovala a few times in the past and have always been very impressed with the overall quality of the oven as well as the meals-they cook perfectly. Because it's a steam oven, it's able to heat the food way more thoroughly than a microwave. You know when you heat cold food in the microwave and the outside is scolding hot and the inside is still cold? We've never had that happen with any of our Tovala meals. In fact, we use our Tovala almost every day to make breakfast (it saves a huge amount of time).

    I’m fascinated by this because as a single person this makes a lot of sense. I cook on my gas grill a lot but sometimes after a long day at work and the weather is cold and rainy using the Tovala seems way easier. Plus as a single person keeping a lot of ingredients in my small fridge and cabinets isn’t feasible. Hmm might try this out .

      It cooks things really well. We use ours for everything from toasting bread to cooking salmon. There are a few of these types of “smart ovens” out there these days - June and Suvie are 2 other big names. I believe Tovala is the only one with a meal delivery service though.

      I just ordered the tovala and food on Dec 28th and the oven is coming about a week before the food. Kinda sad about that because I'm very impatient, but I'm thinking it will be worth the wait. My kid can make her own food with this and my husband might finally feed himself for once in 15 years. 🤣

      ABSOLUTELY! My husband and I eat differently so he ordered this for me. From my understanding, Hello Fresh sends you the food, and it tells you how to put the ingredients together, and then you cook it. These, your meals come in a big box, each box has all the ingredients, a 1-2 step prep; such as separate the two pans, place meat in one, veggie in the other. Next, you press the "scan" button, you scan the code on the back of the direction card, and press start. Every meal is done in 20 minutes or less. Once done, there maybe toppings for your food in which you have the option to use or not. Then eat and enjoy!

    I wonder about price and if it's cost prohibitive for the average family of 4... Could be nice if they made a bigger oven with family sized meals.

    • @CannaNoir
      @CannaNoir 2 роки тому

      There are some meals that come in bigger sizes for an added fee. If you eat out at a restaurant it will be more expensive than the tovala, but if you budget prep meals at home, it's more expensive!
      I'm super busy, as I run a business, care for my mom, daughter and husband as well as pets, so me saving time anywhere is worth a little extra money. We all have different schedules as well, so for an easy breakfast or fast lunch this is PERFECT! Honestly, if I weren't middle class/upper middle class, I likely wouldn't be able to afford this every day. It would be the 3 or 4 meals a week option if I didn't have the income I have, but like I said, having that extra time for myself is worth it.

      @@rickyn1135 Exactly and the serving sizes seem pretty small for men. We all know that we'll be right back in the kitchen hunting through the cabinets for extra food or junk food just after one serving! Maybe this is suitable for some who are on a strict low calorie diet but it just WOULDN'T CUT IT FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON!

    • @FoodBoxHQ

      No I would not! I just got my first box of food and the oven left the chicken in a pool of blood. Is he isn't savvy he might not figure out how to continue to cook it enough Also it was so bland. The chicken parm had marinara that was just salty tomato paste. All in all better to get him fresh meal delivery that just needs to be reheated. Most are healthier and tastiest and usually not as expensive as this oven Didn't expect commercial quality but this is a huge disappointment. My review is from a person who actually paid for product, didn't get a freebie to review

    • @emmasurf8768

      It's just different. I've been ordering Factor for a few years. They are already cooked and refrigerated to reheat. the old Factor meals were better but lately they've had fewer choices and no longer seen to use wild caught salmon, and early is ever have beef that's not ground. After cooking a few Tovala meals i should be able to make my own recipes for it using higher quality ingredients.

  • @pbiddy9421
    @pbiddy9421 2 роки тому +3

    Honestly, in my opinion, no. There aren't enough packaged foods to scan yet and I'm not going to order their meals constantly. Without those two options, it just sat on our counter because the oven was just as easy. 🤷‍♀️ the suvie...I'm gonna try that.

    I stopped buy meals from Tovala and use Home chef "oven ready" meals. they cook faster and taste better with minimal prep. Also, and I am not certain, but I think Tovala food or at least some of it comes precooked. If I wanted precooked I would stick with Freshly.

    Do I need to have it wifi connected to use it?
    Can't I just scan or press the buttons on the oven?
    Can you manually set cook functions/times?
    Are the portion sizes listed?
    Are the meal tins reusable? Can I use my own baking tins in the oven?
    Would it be worth getting to make my own meals?

    • @FoodBoxHQ

      You just need to connect it to your phone over bluetooth, not wifi.
      Yes, you can use it on its own (without bluetooth) by simply scanning the meal and pressing "start".
