    You guys have the best videos. All the info and steps are in the videos and y’all don’t do those lengthy intros that everyone on UA-cam does.

    The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

    This was by far the easiest and cheapest way to do this project. My shelves we're about $23 a piece to make as opposed to the hundreds of dollars per shelf you would spend on Etsy for custom shelves of the same size. Wish I could post a picture, they came out great! I posted your video on my IG story after the post of my first completed shelf for people to find. Thanks so much for making the best and most helpful floating shelf video!

    You could eliminate the wood filler by using pocket holes and a French cleat can be used to hang the shelf. Just an option. Great project!

    With the 2x2 support only being 1.5” sticking out, doesn’t this allow for the shelf to eventually bend downward a bit, especially once you place things on the shelf? I’m having a hard time seeing how this would last awhile.

    Hello! I’ve been watching videos to learn how to make a floating a shelf and I think yours is the best! I am planning to follow exactly what you did. I just had one question, if I want my shelf to be a little higher, would I simply modify the 7 1/4 measurement to say 10 1/4 if I wanted it to be 6.5 in high? I know it’s a stupid question but this is the first time I do anything like this and am scared of making a mistake 😓. Thank you so much in advance and love your video!!

    • @SuperMatt2112
      @SuperMatt2112 3 роки тому +4

      I would probably think the max weight would be 50-75lbs, however, shelves like this are not meant for things that are that heavy, Nick Naks, Towels, cups, display items and such, your not going to be storying 300lb weights or anything. so just use logic and reasoning.
      The weakest point of this shelf will be the screws that hold the self to the 2x2 because you have only a thin area between the screw and the edge of the board, you could strength it a bit by clueing the whole top edge then screw it down thus adding more resistance to the weak points. but this is definitely not meant for heavy weights over 100lbs. also the wider the shelf, the weaker it will be on the front edge. think gravity is always pulling down. hope this helps.

    How do the 1x8’s (actual depth .75) sit flush on either side of the 2x2 (actual depth 1.75) on the back end if the front of the shelf is a 1x4 (3.75 actual width)? You’d be left with a half inch gap. Is the top half on the shelf just “sitting” on the 2x2 with a half inch gap underneath the 2x2?

    @atulhi 4 роки тому +1

    Hello there. Thanks for sharing this video. I am a big fan and an amateur DIY'er. Will be attempting to make these shelves for our living room wall. I do have a question though. As I was noting down the dimensions, I noticed that there may be a gap of around 1/2 inch between the top of shelf and the wall frame ? If so, how did you handle that or is my math wrong ?

    • @__gr91543
      @__gr91543 4 місяці тому

      I know your question is 3 years old lol, but you’re absolutely correct. I wish they would’ve said what their solution to this was because obviously 1+1+2 is 4, the same height as the front of the shelf, but of course lumber is a quarter of an inch smaller meaning the total for the back of shelf is 3.25” whereas the front of the shelf is 3.75”. I assume their solution to this was just to have the top of the shelf “sit” on the 2x2 with a half inch gap below that. Not exactly ideal for a shelf that likely won’t hold much weight to begin with. I suppose you could use 3.5” inch screws that would be long enough to “reach” the bottom half of the shelf past the gap.
