as games become more dynamic & cater to specific fans, (platformer fans, rpg fans, etc), the shared classics we enjoyed as children start to show up less & less. Most of the best game music isn't being ignored, it's just being appreciated by smaller groups of people. The tohou community has their own favorite songs within that community, but I doubt the everyday joe has heard of Bad Apple.

The soundtrack for Skies of Arcadia is what started me on my musical journey - I'd listen to it for hours on end and always hear something new, it challenged me to grow as a musician. People truly underestimate how the background music of a game can influence your experience and overall mood as well!!

I love how you used the Blood Drain remix for the Uni clr segment, a song originally composed for Melty Blood (which also has an absolutely fire soundtrack.) Same composer for both series so it makes sense. Been seeing this video in my recommended for a bit and finally thought "why not?" Was pretty good even if I knew most of the games mentioned (Gravity Rush was robbed of its rightful recognition in this timeline). Always nice to hear people passionate about VGM talk about it.
Falcom games such as the trails or ys series have a really underrated soundtrack in my opinion, I started to play some of their titles some months ago and the soundtrack for me is just amazing.
normally I'd name my 2 favorite game series but underplayed doesn't mean underappreciated music, they both have extremely small fandoms in the west but have been an influence and huge success from as far back as the 80s. I'd like to bring attention to a....dare I say it, PS Vita exclusive game, Soul Sacrifice Delta. Compared to most games here this one has very dark undertones, taking a grim spin on many creatures of mythology and fairy tale (ranging from Cinderella, Snow White, the Pied piper to the Minotaur, Beelzebub, centaur, etc.) in grotesque and compelling interpretations with its own fantastically written lore. But the soundtrack, oh man...The orchestral soundtrack this game has can put so many games out there to shame with how emotionally engaged some of them are or the tense feelings of dread. It is truly a crime that this game never got the spotlight it deserves because of the system it was on.
Parasite Eve.... that soundtrack is so GOOD! Great action fighting themes. Captures the strategic feel to it, and many times scary events Oni (2002 bungi game) really captures that cyberpunk futuristic vibe
I have a reccomendation!! Look up the Abzu OST! Austin Wintory wrote it to capture both the ehtereal spirit of the ocean and the mysticism of ancient mesopotamian culture, and it's just ungODLY beautiful! Look up "Balaenoptera Musculus" or "Then Were Created the Gods in the Midst of Heaven", I cannot emotionally get over either of those
the Gamecube's version of Custom Robo has some great ost especially the Haeven track. Also Metal Arms: Glitch in the System has some good bops too, like it's title music. Great vid by the way, love your work!
Kid Icarus: Uprising has a very interesting soundtrack. Aside from it's music and how much if a damned bop it can be, the entire soundtrack took 6 composers to make.

The Rance series has some insane tracks: Ontology and Rough Edge are some of my favourite tracks ever! Even if they are eroge, Kichikuou Rance, Sengoku Rance and Rance X are probably some of the best games in existance!

I just gotta say that some of my favorite video game music is the one's that have vocals because that can turn a bop into a banger. The last time this happened had to be when I was playing Astral Chain and the "Dark Hero" song came on and I was like "whoa, now this is epic"
I wish more people would look into the soundtrack of Voodoo Vince. Gameplay-wise it's just okay, but the soundtrack is jam packed full of gypsy jazz perfection, despite its limited budget.

I think a game that doesn’t get a lot of recognition for its music is Skyward Sword, especially it’s Skyloft and Bazaar theme. I love how the Skyloft theme dwindles down to just a few instruments when on the side of the island with the most houses and becomes more lively with more songs instruments to reflect the bustling town and Bazaar. And the Bazaar, with its theme changing depending on which shop you go to, reflecting what the shops specializes in always makes me smile.
I got exclusively Gravity Rush on the first christmas that it came out and played it non-stop as a 9 year old, so I might be one of the only people that can get major nostalgia vibes of hearing literally any tune of its soundtrack

Falcom games such as the trails or ys series have a really underrated soundtrack in my opinion, I started to play some of their titles some months ago and the soundtrack for me is just amazing.

normally I'd name my 2 favorite game series but underplayed doesn't mean underappreciated music, they both have extremely small fandoms in the west but have been an influence and huge success from as far back as the 80s.
I'd like to bring attention to a....dare I say it, PS Vita exclusive game, Soul Sacrifice Delta. Compared to most games here this one has very dark undertones, taking a grim spin on many creatures of mythology and fairy tale (ranging from Cinderella, Snow White, the Pied piper to the Minotaur, Beelzebub, centaur, etc.) in grotesque and compelling interpretations with its own fantastically written lore. But the soundtrack, oh man...The orchestral soundtrack this game has can put so many games out there to shame with how emotionally engaged some of them are or the tense feelings of dread. It is truly a crime that this game never got the spotlight it deserves because of the system it was on.
Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure has one of my favorite video game soundtracks
Parasite Eve.... that soundtrack is so GOOD! Great action fighting themes. Captures the strategic feel to it, and many times scary events
Oni (2002 bungi game) really captures that cyberpunk futuristic vibe

Look up the Abzu OST! Austin Wintory wrote it to capture both the ehtereal spirit of the ocean and the mysticism of ancient mesopotamian culture, and it's just ungODLY beautiful!
Look up "Balaenoptera Musculus" or "Then Were Created the Gods in the Midst of Heaven", I cannot emotionally get over either of those

the Gamecube's version of Custom Robo has some great ost especially the Haeven track. Also Metal Arms: Glitch in the System has some good bops too, like it's title music. Great vid by the way, love your work!
Kid Icarus: Uprising has a very interesting soundtrack. Aside from it's music and how much if a damned bop it can be, the entire soundtrack took 6 composers to make.

The Rance series has some insane tracks: Ontology and Rough Edge are some of my favourite tracks ever! Even if they are eroge, Kichikuou Rance, Sengoku Rance and Rance X are probably some of the best games in existance!
Gahaha. Anywas, I'm genuinely surprised to see Rance mentioned here. Rance VI has probably the best OST I've had so far (I've only just started playing Sengoku)
I just gotta say that some of my favorite video game music is the one's that have vocals because that can turn a bop into a banger. The last time this happened had to be when I was playing Astral Chain and the "Dark Hero" song came on and I was like "whoa, now this is epic"
I wish more people would look into the soundtrack of Voodoo Vince. Gameplay-wise it's just okay, but the soundtrack is jam packed full of gypsy jazz perfection, despite its limited budget.

an incredible OST that never gained much traction along with its game. was Dustforce. it's ost is the perfect stare out into the stars or reminisce on the past kind of music. seriously a magical experience

I think a game that doesn’t get a lot of recognition for its music is Skyward Sword, especially it’s Skyloft and Bazaar theme. I love how the Skyloft theme dwindles down to just a few instruments when on the side of the island with the most houses and becomes more lively with more songs instruments to reflect the bustling town and Bazaar. And the Bazaar, with its theme changing depending on which shop you go to, reflecting what the shops specializes in always makes me smile.
I got exclusively Gravity Rush on the first christmas that it came out and played it non-stop as a 9 year old, so I might be one of the only people that can get major nostalgia vibes of hearing literally any tune of its soundtrack
