You should’ve called this video: “Yakko gets mad at Persona rhythm games”
Not only the rhythm games, the originals also make this shitty tactic, hell, I sold my collectors edition of Persona 5 because the school bag was a joke to me, I would never considered using it to carry anything more heavy than a potato chips bag, the sountrack was also just a few songs, and in a cardboard "bag"... WHYYYYY??
I don't even want to talk about the "artbook" xD Finally, the Morgana plushie was even smaller than the Koromaru (and the manufacturing of these always bugged me, raw edges of fabric loose without any kind of seam? Blasphemous)
I got the collector’s edition of Royal and for only 20 dollars more it was pretty decent, the artbook was actually quite nice and had some interviews in the back, and the mask is also really well made and cool. The only disappointment was the soundtrack.
@@eclecticspaghetti the official artbook will have everything is on that edition and more sadly is always the same in this cases
@@eclecticspaghetti Exactly, I honestly think they don't realize that the US wants more in the collector's edition, or at least let us be able to buy said things instead of giving us 5-10 songs on a cd. Indie devs do so much more, and they sometimes don't even have half the money a giant company does
@@eclecticspaghetti where did you get it for that cheap
It's all fun and games until you end up getting a nylon bag instead of a canvas bag for your Fallout 76 collector's edition

Basically
Most of the "Artbooks" in collector editions nowadays don't even have the amount of content that Instruction Booklets used to have. Man I miss getting those for free.
The artbooks from the xenoblade 1 and 2 collectors editions are actually really damn good. Like seriously they didn't need to include all the art in those but they did anyways.
@@slobertooth1358 I've heard they're pretty good. Though why the art book cover isn't just straight up the game cover confuses me
Hollow knight’s is good it has some lore inside of it
Ace Combat was pretty good for me, along with a Book and a Model
@@slobertooth1358 I think the Xenoblade art books given they actually contain a TON of art are the exception,
They put effort into it.
I bought the one for the switch because i missed out on Xenoblade 1 the first time and am happy I grabbed it.
But games other than that I do miss the little manuals having unique art in them too
Now we get a piece of paper at best.
ALTHOUGH I also love the game case paper artwork being reversible or a map on the inside, that's neat :)
To be fair, the guitar for TLOU2 was a Taylor guitar, and $2,300 is actually on the pretty cheap side for guitars made by that particular brand because of their quality. Taylor is a high-end brand that usually sells at around $4,000 and the Guitar wasn't even part of a collectors edition, just a collaboration between brands for a unique product.
yeah the last of us version of the same taylor is what, like $300 more than the same guitar otherwise? really not bad if you're a fan of the games and want a quality guitar
Came here to say this same thing lol, Taylor guitars are not cheap
ok but are they still worth the 2.3k price tag? Is any guitar worth that much?
@@baron2062 I'd say if they're built in a standard mass produced fashion a guitar wouldn't be worth more than maybe 1000 to 1500 in my eye, however once we start getting into the custom building world that changes.
@@baron2062 i think youre forgetting the amount of work that goes into actually quality products for things like musical instruments. mass produced things are cheaper because less care is put into them (and also because they treat their workers like shit but thats a separate topic).

Toki on the Switch has a great collector's edition, it contains a build your own arcade machine you can place your switch in! It's also made out of wood and not cardboard!
Ohh!!! That's so cool!
Wow! :D
Virgin AAA companies: Games are too expensive to make, so we charge 70 dollars for them, cut content and sell it separately, add microtransactions, and release half-assed collector's editions.

@@arkalt4066 I’m sure there’s some great AAA games out there. But theres also a lot of greed in that industry. And from companies with a lot more resources then indie developers, there’s really no reason why they should be releasing half baked products to the public
League of Legends collector's edition: you get your life back

There actually was a collecters edition of League back in the 2009. And it was actually pretty cool and well made

nah collector's edition of lol is old client and mordekaiser a tale of bug
League had physical copies we used that to install the game then man I’m getting old
The best part is when Collector's Editions differ drastically between regions, such as the Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition one. The US gets the absolute bare minimum, an artbook for the game - that's it. The EU? You get a vinyl of part of the soundtrack (not just a regular CD, an honest to god vinyl styled after the Monado) with a download code for the full OST, the artbook, a fairly pretty steelbook case, and a special poster of the new epilogue art.
Needless to say I'm happy I live in the EU. The US got done dirty.
the digital code isnt for the full OST, only 20 tracks.
@@epicsena does it at least have the better tracks on it?
Bruh the one thing I want in a Xenoblade collector's edition is a physical release of the OST because they're great
@@sirspookybones1118 dont worry it has all the best ones on it. Only notable things missing were the title theme as well as beyond the sky, but they weren't remixed for DE so its somewhat understandable.
Don't get me started on the Samus Returns CE between North America and Europe.
EU got a CD soundtrack, keychain, Steelbook, and some other cool items. What did NA get for their CE along with the game? Only a CD soundtrack.
At least throw a keychain in. I was so disappointed, I didn't even bother getting the CE when I saw it sitting at Target.
You just saved me... I was about to buy the persona q2 collectors edition off of eBay for 120 bucks and then I saw this video today
I’ll consider this a wake up call
same, i was about to buy it too
Q2 is a good game, just don’t buy the collector’s edition.
The regular version comes with the renders pamphlet anyway so it's not like it ever mattered
My copy of the regular version also came with the pins.
just find the individual pieces for cheaper then the game itself.
When you got to the ammonomicon, I was like "YES, HE SAYS I DIDNT WASTE 80 DOLLARS AND IT WAS CONSIDERED COOL BY HIM!!"

That tiny toss from tri tip chris near the middle sent me
Ross, love your content
My problem is I’ll only know if I want the collector’s edition for a game until after I’ve played it, and once that’s done I already own the game... so why buy a collector’s edition, then?
i know, right??? it's a different story if you're already invested, but if that only happens once you actually know what you're dealing with, then the only collector's editions it makes sense to get are for upcoming sequels.
…of course, the type of games that tend to get sequels (*cough cough AAA games cough cough*) are also the ones that tend to have shitty collector's editions anyway… no goodies for the fiscally responsible, i guess :/
The only problem I see with collectors editions (when they are done well) is that they are sold out a minute after release and people resell that sh*t for like triple the price.
Wow, I didn't know that English Persona Dancing: Endless Night Collection was such a joke. Japanese LE had both P3D and P5D in separate boxes + Full OST on 4 CD's.
Japan normally gets the cool shit
Yeah, I was pissed to realize it wasn't the same as in Japan but at least Europe got two disk holders.
I see Celeste, I click. I’ve fallen right into the trap. Well played, Yakko.
Well there is a celeste collectors edition in the video.
Is Celeste collectors edition still available
RyanRuler I think the Switch version is sold out, but the PC version is still available. The Switch version is probably on eBay somewhere for a higher price if you need. FanGamer is the best place to look for official indie game merch.

3:15 those guitars actually sell for $2,000 new. Being a collectors item, it makes sense being that much
"The low, low price of way too much money."
Moral of the story:
Small businesses and indie dev' go: *Wink* "We know what you want. Look, this is how we planned and devoloped it, this is the sound track... This is exclusive stuff just for you, and while we're at it. See this cute little teddy? You know what it's referncing to, right? Yeah you do. Enjoy my man/manette.
Big company: You want exclusive right? Like we always did? Ok, here is book with information about the game and maybe a map too. You already know all this? Ehhh, well we said it directly to you... Through a book. Aren't you lucky, eh? So nice of us. OK NEXT.
I think a few big companies do it well, Doom Eternal was pretty awesome with it's collector's edition
"manette" XD
Late ofc, but waiting Undertale's collector's edition variant to ship in rn, gonna see if the man Toby made a good CE frfr.
Dude i freaking miss instruction books... Just the feeling of nostalgia is overwhelming, but also its great for actually noob players
Especially those that had the entire playthrough in them xd
You don't need a instruction book anymore at all
Or when you haven't played the game for some time and forgot the controls
Fun fact: the special TLoU2 guitar is a custom version of a guitar that actually costs like 2.000 bucks, so the premium you pay for the special edition is relatively small considering the usual price of the instrument (it's a really freakin' good guitar).
That Last of us guitar is an actuall real Taylor guitar and taylor guitars are really expensive the normal 314Ce costs 2200 dollars.
i hope he sees this lol i agree with the video in general but that part made me a bit annoyed. guitars b expensive yo

Seeing all those persona artbooks made me struggle, I want them so bad
this was a really good video, however you didn't bring up how the collector's edition for both Hollow Knight and Undertale aren't limited. What's great about those collectors editions is that you are buying the collectors edition to support the game and game company that you so love. This is how the collectors edition should be.

I just wanna chime in about the last of us 2's guitar being so expensive. A high end taylor like that, having onboard electronics and a deluxe case, is actually quite a bit cheaper than a lot of the other high end taylor guitars. Taylors aren't cheap and they're very very well made. You're actually getting a great deal.
I really like Persona 5 Royal's collector edition. The mask is so awesome.
Yeah for me it was totally worth it, especially since I was going to get the steel book anyway
Lord, I was about been salty. Thank you for standing up to the royal edition 🤗🙌. Persona games's collector edition are different due to regions, so it's necessary to do research before buying it. I am at SEA region, but I decided to get the R2 version due to the additional hidden benefits ( aka tht free themes). And get the full royal soundtrack separately instead. Worth every pennies
I Was About To Comment On The P5Rs Collectors Edition (The First Collectors Edition Ive Ever Bought) And Defend The Mask And Soundtrack Hell Even The Special Box It All Came In. So Thanks For Talking About It :D

Next video: killing someone with a video-game art book
Remember when cheap paperback “art books” were part of the manual?
Persona 5 Royal's colelctors edition felt really great to me. It might not have the full soundtrack, but it does have most of the new songs, a neat steelbook, artbook, a ps4 theme and a joker mask. But aside from the gorgeous box it comes in the real reason i like it is that the price wasnt the insane 100+ euros that i expected from ubisoft collectors editions like watch dogs and black flag. Seeing the hollow knight and celeste collectors editions does warm my heart though. I should really have a go at those games.
In some places it was 80 dollars but I could really only buy the steelbook version which comes with one ps4 theme. I paid 40 dollars and that’s fine by me
I adore the Undertale collectors addition. It was well worth the import fees - the music box and the entire soundtrack (aside from that one cut song) is just amazing.

Special reserve games is such a good company. My friend liked the box they sent the games in but by the time they got there they were covered in postage stickers. So I asked if I could get more. They just straight up shipped me 5 boxes
What makes an Indie game physical edition feel special is that you can see not only how much love the creators putted on it, but how far that game and indie creators managed to go. Not only that but you also can see how much they wanted to express how grateful they are for the support and love they got from the comunnity by putting a lot of effort on the collector's edition, something that AAA companies doesn't do because they want to make shit that people will want to buy no matter how stupid or expensive it is, ust becuase they forgot about doing proyects with love and passion like when they where an indie company, and that is so sad.
fucked up that the persona one decided to print playing cards instead of tarot cards, which would have actually been cool and thematic

a couple of years ago i bought the Modern Warfare 3 (2011) collector’s edition it was called Prestige edition, it had Soap’s (a character in the campaign) personal journal, and it has the strategic planning of some of the missions in the game and it has blood on it and some of the pages have smudged ink because of the water, there are ripped pages as well like the ones you mentioned in Halo collector’s edition, also we know about Soap is that he hates dogs so he draws them as hideous beings, and since he’s scottish there is a page with football (soccer) scores.

I’ll never forget the first (and one of the only) collector’s edition I ever bought. It was Robotech Battlecry for the original Xbox. Also publishers like CD Projekt Red include items that you expect to find in an expensive collector edition like a medal, stickers, a map, the OST in the standard edition of the witcher 3.
The collector's editions that get me are the ones that give you the game in its standard package and then include an empty steelbook. I don't need 2 cases for my game, Ace Combat 7.
