- This is a vlog of my traverse of the White Teeth (Les Dents Blanche) alternative route on day 32 of my Hexatrek thru-hike. This is the first alternate route on stage 2 of the Hexatrek.
The Hexatrek is an epic 3034km long distance trail that goes through France, including the Alps & Pyrenees.
This alternative route was a lot of fun but was incredibly difficult. Lots of steep climbing, slippery snow, dangerous scrambling and amazing views.
You can find more information about the Hexatrek here: en.hexatrek.com

Wow. Well done matie. What amazing views. You're very brave doing that by yourself, that rope ascent looked crazy steep.
Cheers mate, yeah it got a bit crazy towards the top. I just kept following the trail and taking it careful. It was an awesome day in the mountains 😊
Wow. Incredible!
Amazing stuff, a real challenge and adventure. That will provide a lasting memory. Respect.
It was certainly a challenge, it was a lot of fun 😊
Great stuff Ryan. Those views are special indeed
Thanks James, the views were incredible. I kept stopping to just look at the view 😎
That was so scary to watch! Very brave 👏
It did get a bit steep, glad you enjoyed the Alps from the safety of home 👍🏼💚
Great video and lots of great shots packed through great editing and atmosphere my friend!
Cheers mate, the French Alps are incredible 😊
Amazing adventure Ryan. Incredible views and a wonderful atmosphere out there. What a challenge man. Fantastic video!
Cheers mate, the views were amazing. I’ll definitely be hiking in the French Alps again. Hopefully next summer 😊
Thanks for posting this video Ryan, I am definitely skipping this alternative route. Booked the flights yesterday, start May 15th
That’s the beauty of the Hexatrek, you can choose these alternative paths or take the safer main route. The Hexatrek app does a great job of explaining the risks on these routes. Flights booked 😊 that’s amazing 👍🏼 very exciting. Good luck with the training, you will be on trail before you know it 😊
Usually its hard to tell on camera how steep a climb is but you can see it on this video 😮 superb views. Bit of a sketchy section, especially to do solo!
I tried very hard to show just how crazy this route was, so steep. It was an awesome day on the Hexatrek. I love the adventure. The Alps are incredible, I’ll definitely be hiking there again in the future.
Thank you for sharing this alternative path. this is what I was looking for to understand how difficult it is and if I was able to do it.
It was a very tough alternate route, very adventurous and I enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn’t of done it in bad weather though, it was very steep in places. I did this alternate path on July 23rd so there will be a lot more snow if attempting it sooner, and I believe the snow this year in the Alps has been a lot more than previous years. Goodluck if you are attempting it, it is a lot of fun and the views from the top are incredible.
I won’t do it this year and maybe never. I am a little bit subject to vertigo and not sure this path is for me. This year I am doing the GR 34 in Britany. It’s not mountains but it’s still beautiful
Thanks again.
@@PhilCoke-ev4zm That’s awesome, I’m looking at the GR34 as a possible hike towards the end of this summer. It looks like an incredible coastal hike.
Iam not doing that part next year xD Thanks for the views
It was a bit of a dangerous alternative path. That’s the beauty of the Hexatrek you can choose the safest route for you. Glad to hear you will be hiking it next it. It is an epic trail 😎
What is your start date Raafj3
Just found this video, this is good intel. Im currently on trail near Saint-Hippolyte and probably a bit too early in the year to do some of the trails in the alps. Currently dealing with torrential rain on the La Doubs. 😅😅😅
I had a lot of crazy thunderstorms whilst on stage 1 last year. I stayed in a nice little campsite in Saint-Hippolyte, nice little village. I saw there is a lot of snow in the Alps at the moment, I started the trail June 22nd last year so there were only bits of snow in the Alps when I arrived at stage 2. Hope the rain clears up for you soon and I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊 happy hiking.
Got a bit dangerous?? Yeah….I’ll go the old lady route instead.
Wait. Is that snow?!
If you’re not comfortable scrambling I would definitely recommend following the main route. That’s what I loved about the Hexatrek, there are a few alternative paths and the app gives a lot of info to be able to make a decision based on your level of hiking experience. There was quite a bit of snow but it wasn’t too bad in trail shoes, just followed where other people had gone. Good to hear you will be hiking it next year, it is an epic trail.
@@RyansNextAdventure if I can afford to hike it! Prob just walk around Somerset x
Hi,
What did you use for navigation?
I used the official Hexatrek App. It has the official route which is very easy to follow, and has a lot of information about water points, resupply points, accommodation and warnings about the scrambly parts of the trail. The app is a must for hiking the Hexatrek, could’ve done the trail without it.
@@RyansNextAdventure Thanks for the info, the app looks really helpful. What's your next hike?
@@Harvey493 No problem. Not sure about my next hike currently. There’s lots I want to do, I’m starting to plan for next year. Watch this space 😊
Have you heard of the kungsleden in Sweden?
@@Harvey493 I have indeed 👍🏼 it looks amazing. it’s on my ‘to hike’ list 😊
