- The Hexatrek is an epic 3034km long distance trail that goes through France, including the Alps & Pyrenees.
I am now on day 91 of my Hexatrek thu-hike and I have now made it to the Pyrenees mountain range. After hiking for so long solo I was definitely struggling a bit mentally at this point, but it was good to be in the mountains again.
You can find the route and more information about the Hexatrek here: en.hexatrek.com

I’ve only watched your shorts so far - really great to get a bit more insight in these longer vids. Sometimes feeling low when you can’t put your finger on the reason is even harder than when you have something solid to blame for the feelings! I hope this particular low passed swiftly. Love all the amazing scenery in this vid 😊👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed 😊 very hard to put my finger on these low moments, I suspect its just part of doing the same thing day after day for 4 months. But there were so many more high moments and overall this hike was an incredible experience.
So proud of you Ryan xxx
💚
Hi Ryan, great video, the real reality of putting your previous life on hold, isolate yourself from everyone you know and just keep going day after day.
Long after the novelty of hiking in beautiful isolated areas have faded.
Your comment sums it up nicely Alan, a lot of sacrifices need to be made in order to take on this kind of adventure. Lots of highs and lows that you have to ride. All part of the adventure, and overall it is 100% worth it 😊
And through all the challenges, you succeeded Ryan, you did it. Whatever challenges you face in your life, in the future in all areas of your life you can look back at this success and know, if you could do the Hexatrek, you can do anything. Well done mate.
Mate! Chocolate is your friend! Apart from the physical effort of hiking everyday, I hadn't realised the impact of my hiking diet on my mental state. Good you feel comfortable to tallk about the good times......and the not so good. Te Araroa here you come. Bring your girlfriend! Anna talked a few times on our channel about the not so good times and got some lovely comments from people. Well done!
It’s very hard to explain sometimes. I’m hiking a once in a lifetime hike, through incredible scenary and I’m feeling low. It’s tough to pinpoint why but I guess it’s just doing the same thing all day everyday. Balance is definitely a good thing, and now I’ve finished the hike I’ve been very static and resting. It’s been very nice 😊 I’m proud of myself for what I achieved, completing the Hexatrek and I had so many high moments too.
Great hiking 🥾 Ryan the mileage you have done is incredible 👏👏
But with regards feeling low (we have all been their and it happens) you did the right thing take in nature eat some chocolate and keep going one step at a time mate
Best regards Simon 🤠👍🏔️
Cheers Simon 👍🏼 feeling low on these massive hikes is definitely a challenge. But I’m proud of myself for how I pushed through and done what I needed to do to enjoy the hike again. The highs definitely out way these little low moments and there were so many highs on this hike. It was an incredible adventure 😊 Thank you for your message 👍🏼
@@RyansNextAdventure welcome Ryan ATB🤠👍
Brilliant Ryan. My twin brother Paul and I had organized to hike the Pyrenees then he tragically died. But this was a reminder of what a great range it is. The waters good I see - love it! And hey cooler conditions. Ah, it's a bugger that low mood. Just gotta keep going. Well, I enjoyed this cows and all. Take care. Mark
Oh Mark that bloody sucks, sorry to hear you didn’t make it to the Pyrenees with your brother Paul. The Pyrenees are amazing, very tough hiking though. I assume from your wording you have hiked there before, how was it? I love the cows because they all have cow bells on, very musical when hiking past them 😊
@@RyansNextAdventure Yeah, it was tough and has been since Ryan but the world doesn't stop turning. No, it was a plan we were working on. We were just hooked on the Pyrenees - it will be hiked and enjoyed. Yeah, musical cows - love em.
Beautiful part of the trail. X
The Pyrenees are incredible mountains. Very different to the Alps. Very tough hiking aswell. But the views are worth it 😊
@@RyansNextAdventure my mind days yes. My knees say nooooooooooo

Lovely little camp spot: oh how I wish I could be sleeping in the mountains and drinking fresh cold mountain water!
*_Hello Ryan... if you feel inferior when climbing alone and witnessing the amazing natural panorama, you are a wise adventurer, beautiful savanna and hills, are the Pyrenees mountains under national park supervision?.... greetings from Indonesia....._* 👣⛰👌👍💯
The mountains definitely make me feel tiny compared to them 😊 I love the mountains. I think big sections of the Pyrenees are protected by national park status. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Theres plenty of support out here for you Ryan ..
Feeling low, depressed, low motivation, low self esteem...
Unfortunatly very common for alot of people ....
Open up ..share it....at the end of the day were all the same...
Just trying to get on and make the best out of life...
So dont be afraid Ryan...your obviously a very capable man...
Sometimes we just need to giv ourselves some love and attention ..and sometimes a rest is as good as a holiday ...
The trick is finding the balance..
Do .....Rest..😊
Iook after yaself Ryan ...your hiking some serious miles.
Your body and mind need good balanced nutrients.
i personally advise that you do not ignore a build up of low mood and depression...it can build up and wipe u out..
Be careful ...look after yaself....get the balance right......look after your mental health...
Because without that....life is much more difficult...i know !
Thank you for your message, it means a lot 😊 I 100% agree with you about balance, although this was a hike of a lifetime and it was an incredible adventure, it was very tough to keep hiking day after day. But I enjoyed the challenge of it and now I’ve completed the Hexatrek I’m proud of myself for what I achieved 😎
I completed the hike on 17th October, and I’ve pretty much been resting since. I’m think I’m nearly ready for another adventure now though so I’m planning what’s next. Thanks again for you kind message, much appreciated 👍🏼😊
Proud of you ...never known anyone so able and determined.
Enjoy ....your attitude and drive is something to be proud of ..
Thank you 👍🏼😊
Hello Ryan....what gps watch do you use...would you recommend it ?
Would you do a vid about it ?
How long battery last ?
Thanku. ...😊
I’m currently using the Sunnto Ambit3 Peak. The battery life is really good, it lasts about 20 hours in GPS mode. It’s quite an old watch now but you could probably pick up a second hand one for cheap. I use it for all my running and hiking, it’s a very rugged watch and I love it. No plans for a video but I do briefly mention it in my gear video for the Hexatrek.
Hey Ryan, which date did you start and end the hike?
I started my Hexatrek thru-hike on 22nd June. I finished on 17th October. It took me 118 days to hike this incredible 3034km trail.
Thanks for sharing the highs, lows and personal challenges of your hike.
@@RyansNextAdventure do you know how much you spent on the trip?
@@nilsholz5168 I’m not sure how much the complete trek cost me at the moment. But I do have all the information and notes about all the costs and plan to make a UA-cam video covering all my costs, and how much it cost me exactly. It will be coming in January
@@davidbradshaw8364 there were definitely a lot of challenges on this hike. But wow, what an adventure 😊
Was this your favourite stage? Hard times are the best times 💪
It is very difficult to pick a favourite stage of the Hexatrek. It was such a big hike with so many beautiful sights to see. The Pyrenees mountains were incredible and I would say stage 6 was a bit more beautiful than stage 5, but very hard to pick a favourite.
@@RyansNextAdventure they have done a good job connecting the hexatrek as it's seems to get better as you make your way along the trail. I can't wait to start in June and slow down for five or so months and be immersed in it. Hope your next trail is not too far away.
Thru-hiking is very special 😊 just plodding along the trail everyday, finding water & food, looking for beautiful places to wild camp. A great way of life. The vast majority of the Hexatrek is along the GR routes and it does a great job at connecting them up. You will love it, good luck with your preparations for your hike.
Yes I agree the way of life that we have done since the beginning. I done the Cambrian way earlier this year through the heart of Wales only a three week adventure but definitely recommended fantastic views. Thanks for the information about the visa I have sent off the paperwork and is currently being reviewed did you have an interview with the embassy?
@@Harvey493 no interview, I went to a visa application centre in London. TLS Contact. You hand over your application, then get a photo taken and then wait to hopefully get approved. Awesome you hiked the Cambrian Way, it’s on my list and I’ll probably hike it next year. What did you use for navigation? What were the resupplies like? Looks like a nice remote route.
