Nice job! I had this rifle on my radar but ended up buying the Caiman X, since the overall length is 80mm shorter than the Katran C unfolded whilst benefiting from a 520mm barrel and, at least for me, a perfect balance. I never had a rifle in my hand, that shouldered so well.
You may soon be single handily responsible for a population explosion of stock maker hobbyists😁 This Katran furniture is looking good!👍🏼 Now I understand how to get interesting laminate patterns on slab sides using angled cuts👌🏼 I always wondered if the Ataman M2R Ultra-Compact would make a nice target rifle. This Katran C has a similar profile and is about 290 pounds/GBS less. On a side note I found it interesting that Ataman, a Russian company, uses LW barrels and not CZ🤔 It would be wonderful to have one target rifle for each of the great barrel makes (LW match, LW poly, BSA, CZ, FX ST, etc).
Hi Ron the ultra-compact would make a great sub12 all rounder. Should be able to keep it really pared back and small. I've a few walther barrels to modify to try in the katran, it will be interesting to compare them to the cz. I'd like to try the 15mm cz aswell in comparison. Hopefully I can get more of you into the shed to have a go with the woodwork 😉
Great mate. Great. I've been shooting one of these today. As I said, innovation and original design, creativity beyond Air Arms. Accuracy as good as legacy German manufacturers. Not a popular view. I'm getting one. Will you do the wood.
Hi jake, I dont really take on commission builds for the ar type stuff as they are way more time consuming that most imagine to do properly.but we could probably work something out if you are not in a rush 😉
How did this end up for HFT? Was it any good? I’m looking at one myself for HfT but wanted to get ur opinion as you used it for that and I’ve seen this rifle on ur channel many times. I’m not looking to set any records or win any nationals but is it good enough to compete at a semi-decent level in HFT in ur opinion? Maybe even off sticks class?
Hi mate, work and life got in the way of dragging the katran to any major competitions but it's not really that ideal tbh. The geometry of the rig is a bit peculiar and it doesnt shoot hft prone very well without a fair bit of re jigging.. it also doesn't deal with the cold very well so not the most practical platform for an hft comp rig. It's a nice compact pest control rig but for the majority of target disciplines there's way better stuff available. You're well into used Steyr/FTP900 /walther money for the price of a katran. That's where my money would go... 😉
Nice one, like the way you cut the timber for the hamster 😀

Would be interested to see it with one of your benchrest palm grips, but looking good in the blue lam , hamster really finishes it off nicely
Ive a few more grip styles to test out but it's looking promising so far 😀
Very nice informative vid.
Looking forward to more.
Looking forward to the testing on a HFT course.
I'm enjoying this one Jon, very different to my usual and very fun
Really nice work, do you make your own blanks or purchase the black stock? Any recommendations for making some? Or places to order from?
