Looking through your channel and came across this video from last year. Just bought a 2023 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium and do not like the factory alloy rims on it. However, I also am not a huge fan of the black TRD rims that it seems everyone has and is confined to. So looking for an alternative to just black out the factory rims because I like the design of them at least. How well does the plasti dip hold up with like regular tire rotations, wear and tear, etc?
@@JoeMama-j7syou’re tweakin if you think that taking off all 4 rims and plasti dipping all of them is faster than not taking off the rims and plasti dipping if
Just did my wheels yesterday and they came out great. Took inspiration as far as not having to remove the wheels and paint them. This video really helped me save a lot of time and money
The one reason i fear of doing that with plasti dip is i dont know if pulling out the cards will pull off the paint. Have you done it before with plasti dip? I just wonder if i am gonna need to use a knife around the edge of my rims just to be sure yk?
This could be a silly question but how does the plasti dip hold up once you need to wash your rims? Do you have to be extra cautious when scrubbing etc?
Hey, I used plastidip on my Jeep Wrangler. I off-roaded. Went on road trips from California to Miami and it held up plenty of storms, washes, etc for 2 years. It started to dull after 2 years and peel after about 3.
Yeah, 2-3 years makes sense. I accidentally held the cans far away from the rims when I did mine, and it actually created too much of a textured coat. The more textured your coats are, the harder it is to clean. I think if it's too textured, it collects fibers from microfiber cloths and it's harder to wash. Just make sure you hold that can "close, but not too close', so you can properly wipe the rims themselves. Too much texture and you could accidentally break / lift the dip even when gently wiping with a towel or microfiber cloth.
Great video, I want to thank you so much! Followed your instructions straight down the line, including the plastic bag trick, and all came out beautiful! We have a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 van that we converted to a camper. It had some pretty old chrome rims and this made them look both new but updated our van a bit. Thanks again. Doug and Heidi
Looks good. For all the dippers out there. Try and remove the brake cover bag from the rear of the wheel to insure it does not lift the dip by accident.
Amazing transformation! Huge savings over new rims as well. I like what you did with the center caps also. I bought some TRD center caps, I will put on in the Spring. I've always thought the factory rims look pretty good, but I have seen some aftermarket ones I like better. You're showing a great alternative to swapping them out.
Just can't fully justify spending $900+ on black out rims myself. I've used plastic dip before so I'm no stranger to it. I'm definitely planning on plastic dipping my Rim this summer when all the snow melts and when the weathers warmer.
Anyone know where I can get center cap trd decals for wheels like this? I seen a video where a guy was able to buy some on Etsy for 16” but I can’t find them! I just hate the Toyota logo!
Shoutout for showing the product of tire shine you were using. I love knowing exactly what is being used in a video so I can copy what I know works!! Thanks for this video I'll be attempting this soon.
Hi there. I was curious as to what happens when you have to remove tire to replace for new tire. Does plastidip come off of bolts or lip of wheel when replacing? I know those machines are rough when they pop your tire off the rim. If it doesn’t come off, that’s pretty cool.
@danielvitolo2595 I don't have that car anymore gave to a family member. But I had the car first years and it lasted maybe 5 years before it started to peel off and look bad. I bought the car with it already on there. I believe the dealer put in on there. I got tired of looking at the chips and decided to take it off with wd 40 and let me tell you I had the hardest time getting it to come off. Took me days to get it all off. It last good tho.
@@Rif-hq9ki Ok,,got ya. Thx. Hopefully the reason it was so hard to get off is because they didn’t do enough coats. I guess I’ll know when that time comes to take off.
People don't realize how durable and long lasting PD is. I have white on my Tundra grill surround and it has lasted 3 years with little touchups here and there. Not sure on wheels, but I am trying this on my daughters Frontier wheels today!

Trying to decide if I should powder coat or do this for my land cruiser. How does it hold up to offroad driving with rocks and dirt kicking up on the wheels?
Great video! Plasti-dipping the logo red already made a huge difference even on stock wheel color on my cement grey tacoma. Will black out the rest of the wheel this summer. Question - how're the plasti-dip holding out so far?
@@TheUnrestricted Awesome. Have you had to ever respray them? I assume you take very good care of them. Im going to do the same to my rims but how long do you expect these to last?
The correct way would be to take the wheels off and do the caps and lugs separately. What do u think is going to happen to the coating the next time you rotate your tires?
I prefer to leave the wheels on the car and hit all 4 with the plasti dip at the same time. If you don't have a garage you wanna move fast so they have time to dry before dew sets in at dark. I ruined a pair of wheels one time because i didn't think of dew covering them before they fully dried. They came out milky.
Hi, I have a tacoma. and it has the same rims as yours can you send me the name of all the sprays you use so I can make them that way they also look great
I'm curious about doing this with a lighter color. Like gold or bronze. I would be worried about cleaning the brake dust off them and damaging the finish. At least it doesn't cost a lot.
I have plastidip on my front grill because I didn't liked the chrome parts on it. But it holds verry well while washing the car with a pressure washer for example, just make sure to put multiple layers of plastidip on the parts that you wanna paint.
🤩Btw you can grab any mod you saw on my truck using the links in my description!
