I always Remove the wheels for Painting or Dipping, because that way you can get all the spokes and the complete area of the wheel without moving the car. Also so you don't Spray the lugnuts or the Center cap, and so you don't have to worry about over spray on the Suspension, inner fender and the fender, but whatever works best for you. As Always Great Work Fonzie. Thanks for the Great Tutorial.
For wheel face dipping leaving the wheels on is the easiest and safest(not everyone can remove wheels and torque them back down correctly or feel comfortable doing so) way to get it done. Spraying barrels yes, you have to remove the wheels. As far as dip overspray you don't really get any overspray on the suspension when using aerosol cans along with the brake masking bags and even if you had a small amount of overspray it wipes right off . With paint that's a different story. With dip aerosols you have control of where the product goes. Even if you overspray on the fender or fender liner the dip wipes right off with a microfiber towel. If there's any worry shove some paper in the wheel well and a piece of tape on the edge of the fender.
Maybe I missed it but are you supposed to wait in between coats? If so how long do you wait in between the four tack coats? How long are you supposed to wait between the wet coats?
Tack coats flash quickly, 4-5 mins between each. Then for wet coats it depends on your ambient temps, but usually 15-25 mins on average. The colder it is, the longer the coats take to dry.
I would recommend taking the lug nuts off first. I got my tires rotated on my dipped rims and they destroyed the dip all around the lug nuts. Next time I’ll be taking them off before spraying and replacing them with black lug nuts to match.
I just received my Kit and this video it was just what I needed before starting spraying. I would be great if you guys add a bar code or a link in your instruction cards included with the Kit . Thank you ! Amazing product by the way
when you apply the dip-release do you need to make sureto get it right next to the wheel? - and then use the pre-dip cleaner to remove it from the wheel edge? isn't it nearly impossible to get that line perfect? so which is more important, having the dip-release REMAIN RIGHT next to the wheel? or making sure the wheel is 100% clear of dip-release?
Great video! Just Hyperdipped my 2019 Silverado OEM 18" wheels yesterday with Brass Monkey. Came out great, two small imperfections but only I'll notice. I feel that maybe a 6th can would have been perfect. I removed the wheels to make it easier for me plus it allowed me to add dip release inside the rim since I didn't want overspray there. After applying dip release to my all terrain tires, there was still plenty of dip release to coat the inside of the wheels. I couldn't find anywhere on the website about time between coats, but at about 5 min of spraying per rim it worked out to about 20-25 min between coats. Spray handle is a must hahaha!!
Be careful adding Dip Release to the wheel itself you can have an edge start lifting due to this. Dip Release is meant for tires. If you want the barrels to not be sprayed you will want to either mask them off or use some naphtha and a microfiber towel after the wheels are dipped to remove any overspray.
I really like that shadow black. I just sprayed over my 2 year old hyperdip wheels and it looks just as good as the first time! I really really like the results 😊 it's a great product ❤ they look like new again. I have a question. Will this stay on my plastic black trim? I have succeeded to blackout my chrome on another vehicle. I had some nicks and touched it up. The amazing thing is it isn't like other paint. My touch ups aren't obvious. 😊
If you speed up the playback, your delivery on the wheel spokes looks like you're scrubbing with the can. A great way to deliver the paint to all surfaces.
Instead of using the predip on your sidewalls could we also use painters tape? I feel like that would be a lot cleaner at the end and way less hassle after
Im re-dipping already dipped wheels,im using your product, the same as before…is there any difference in the step by step process for a fresh wheel and a already dipped wheel?

I'm at 5 coats, and 4 tack coats on 2 wheels with one can.......it looks good. But I'm lost. Do I do a 2nd can for the two wheels and keep building layers. Or tap out and put the wheels back on the car?
Any tips on a bare wheel? No tires or any primer on the wheel. Getting mine media blasted to start from scratch and want to play around with different colors.
@@sweetdees86 Would suggest getting the tires on the wheels first before you spray them (unless you just want to test first). Bare wheel should be just fine, but keep in mind it may be tougher to peel the dip off as the bare wheel will likely grab a bit more.
Set of four 18 inch wheels and I was only able to get 4 tack coats and 3 wet coats out of the wheel kit. I mean it looks great but idk how you got that many coats with just 5 cans. I only have 5 spokes on my rims so not nearly as many as you had in this video I just don’t get how you got that many coats.
What is the workaround for getting the dip on your lug nuts it changes the diameter and makes it difficult to take them off if you have to service the tire or say the brakes.
Soo... we don't need to mask the fender? Also...we can't use it in the South due to humidity? And.. what about the area we missed before moving the car back? Don't those areas also have to be tacked 4x before wet layer?
Don't need to mask the fender, overspray shouldn't go outside of the tire unless it's windy. We are in South FL, so we dip in the south all the time. Early mornings are best for spraying before the humidity kicks in during warmer months. Usually your tack coats will cover the whole surface of the wheel, it's the wet coats where you need to watch your angles.
Thank you for this. Would you please do a window trim video. Showing the tips and tricks on how to properly mask, spray and when to remove the tape and drape etc. I tried it and it was a disaster. Thanks.
Window trim tutorials are more difficult as every vehicle may have completely different window trim, seals, etc. It's hard to make a tutorial on that subject that is helpful and relevant to all users.
2 steps not mentioned!!! Masking off the rest of the surface area around the wheel well and putting the cans in warm water to prep the paint. If you don't warm up the cans, the paint becomes too cool from releasing pressure causing splatter affects. I plastic dipped my rims and keeping the cans warm helped out, because I noticed how the paint wants to kinds spit out when the can becomes cool.
2 steps not mentioned because they are not necessary. You don't need to mask the surface area around the wheel unless for some reason your overspray reaches outside of the tire (shouldn't ever happen unless you're spraying in wind.) HyperDip does not need to be warmed in water, that only applies to the old Plasti Dip product. HyperDip is much lower viscosity and flows out just fine in ambient temps.

Sounds like someone either used far too little dip, making a thin and brittle coating. That or it's not even genuine dip. Dip Dissolver and a pressure washer should make quick work of it if it is actually dip.
Do I need to put multiple layer of the tiers protection ?? Cause I put one layer only and it was hard to come out , some of it is still sticking till now , any tips of how to peel it off would be appreciated.
I am going to have to do this to my winter wheels. I know that it is ideal to do this inside, but that is not an option for me while the wheels are on the car. Is it passable to do them outside in the driveway? If so, what tips would you give for that situation?
I'd imagine it would be easy to peel it off of them after you remove them. I'd be more concerned about the areas of the wheel surrounding the lug nuts. I'm sure it would be scraped and wrecked unless you're crazy careful. Either way, way too much work for a temp solution imo.
You can leave them or peel them, personal preference. You'd be surprised how often the dip on the lug nuts survives a tire change - sometimes they get scratches but sometimes they are just fine.
In my experience with the old dip, you want to dip them right after you have the wheels off for a rotation or tire change or whatever. The longer it can cure before being attacked by tools, the better it holds up. I have definitely destroyed a few day old dip on a customer's wheel when they got a flat and warned them ahead of time the tire machine would probably eat it up. It did, and I was as careful as possible. Meanwhile on my own wheels that have had dip on them for years, the tire machine didn't do anything and I wasn't careful at all. Luckily I walked the customer through the process to fix the dip and they were able to save it, even showed them how well it was holding up on my wheels at the time so they wouldn't be discouraged. Hyperdip might be different though I haven't played with it yet, but generally paints and such will offgas for a few months after spraying and become more durable with time.
Another tip I like to use is to jack up the wheel you're spraying so you can spin it while spraying. Makes it easier
Or... take the wheel off🤔🫢
I like to jack off between coats
