I so enjoy a new generation finding the soul of my generations music. Bobby Hatfield was an amazing talent. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe. ❤😊
I'm a Black American (not Afro-American!), 82 years old and this music is my time. It was also the time of JFK, of MLK, and the time my son fell in love with the white girl next door... it was a good time. I never felt oppressed, never excluded and I only knew racism from television. Blue Eye Soul, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Billie Holiday, Righteous Brothers, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder...that's music. This is soul. This is life. I miss the 50's, 60's and 70's. Today I don't even like to turn on my radio and on TV I see people who no longer know what they are and ask me what I identify as. I am a black man who had a good and free life in Alabama. I'm a proud American living at peace with my neighbors. God save America!

There were few channels and you needed to be truly talented to have any chance of getting famous. These days it is actually hard for real talent to get noticed in among all the noise and plastic corporate copy/paste.
I've seen him do that run, but this time I just listened .You're right, Arthur. It does look effortless, and it sounds effortless. And Yes! that final note.! : ) Cheers!
I am a Black American Man that just turned 50. I love , love , this song. I'm glad you were able to feel the joy I've always felt listening to him sing his heart out.
No auto tune real voices with real tallent rare in a lot of music made today. Also real musical instruments played by real musicians make a difference in the sound the flo the feeling of the music that’s is why people love older music so much you understand the words you have real tallent with real music don’t it sound great
Love that Otis Redding song. I was a mere teenager when it came out now a 73 year old . Still enjoy music and love watching a new generation enjoying the music from back then.
me too, my brother was working in the cannery in Alaska when he was age 14... I think of him when I hear Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay. About 60 years ago
It's because he had a cold (can you believe that!?!?) and his mom was in the audience. He said he was nervous because he wanted to do his best for her, and at the end he knew that he'd nailed it. And this is live with no auto-tune on old technology. Hatfield was a freakin' amazing singer!
Me too Anne. I'm 72 & that is my favorite song of all time. It transports me back to my teens any time I hear it. What a special voice Bobby Hatfield had. I've heard covers but non compares to him.
This is Bobby Hatfield, one half of the group. Bill Medley is the other half and he sat out on this song. They are credited with creating the “blue eyed soul” genre. A great performance. His mother was in the audience and he was a little nervous. No autotune, so true. You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling is their biggest hit, a must listen.
My mom LOVED them. Idk if true or not but she said they were at a place with a bunch of groups singing and a member of a black R&B soul group said "Man, that's some righteous singing right there!"...and that's how they got the name Righteous Brothers Edit: Pitch correction (commonly referred to as Auto Tune) was rarely ever used before Cher's song "Believe" released in 98 became a huge hit and it was known as the "Cher effect". Afterwards, it was greatly overused for its original purpose...pitch correction. So...it's a fairly new thing of the past 25 or so yrs
My brother John (RIP) became friends with Bobby Hatfield when he use to come and hang at the bar my brother was bartending at the Hilton in Atlantic City. Bobby would hang at the bar after performances at the casino. They became such friends that the would go out to local bars together doing karaoke. RIP Bobby too
When you went "Oooh" and made that appreciation face when Bobby hit his first "are you still mine?" I really smiled, because all I could think was "Wait for it."
The awesome Bobby Hatfield's solo! I was 15 yrs old when I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. He owns this song. His voice is awesome! No auto tunes, pure raw talent. RIP Bobby! We miss your beautiful voice! ❤️🙏❤️🙏
The singer is the late, great Bobby Hatfield. He's one of the few counter-tenors you will hear in pop music. His partner, Bill Medley, has a voice that's as deep as Bobby's is high. Their harmonies are insane. The Righteous Brothers were one of the first Blue-Eyed Soul artists and many have followed in their footsteps.

I'm almost 70 a white woman and grew up with so great music that you're discovering. I like so many kinds of music. If you can dance to it, that's even better.
My wife walked down the aisle to this very song. When I eventually looked into her eyes it was like the proverbial cherry on top. Whenever we collide, like all couples do, the memory of her angelic face on that special day, assures me of my decision to ask her for her hand. She's still my favorite person on earth. Going on 80 and Bobby still makes me cry 😢 just like in 1965. Love your reaction ❤ this is slow dancing at its best. So glad I grew up when I did. RIP SWEETHEART 🎉 ❤
Bobby wasn't the first to record this song, but he OWNS it with this performance, recorded live on The Andy Williams Show. The Righteous Brothers recording of "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" was the most radio played song of the 20th century. You should definitely check it out. Another of their greats was "Soul and Inspiration". Their music at the time was described as "blue eyed soul". As a sad commentary on the times, many "white" radio stations wouldn't initially play their music because they assumed that the performers were black. But thankfully, public opinion eventually overpowered such petty attitudes. Sadly, Bobby passed in 2003. But Bill Medley is still with us.
No one has ever been able to sing this like Bobby Hatfield, period. So glad you enjoyed it. Grew up in the 60s and have all the Righteous Brothers albums.❤
This was my time growing up (I'm 73) and I've heard several people compare Sam Cooke and Bobby Hatfield like you did. Bobby's voice was off the charts. This was his song and NO ONE else should be allowed to attempt this one after he sung it
Polo ! I am a 60 year old Irish woman. I grew up in the 70's so I grew up listening to 1970's artists obviously which I still love, but I was also introduced to 1950' and 1960's artists at a very early age through my parents, so you could say I grew up with the lot. And believe it or not listening to somec1940's music. We were not a musical family in the sense of playing instruments or singing ourselves, but we definitely loved music. Iidrened to your own comments about the Righteous brothers and this particular song, unchained melody. You said you were listening to lyrics and I could definitely see that. Some people would say it's my age and and say it about others of my own generation, but definitely the old songs are the best I was telling my nephew that years ago you had to prove yourself a good singer before you were allowed up on a stage and a good song writer. Now a days I feel if your just a good looking fella or young one as we say about the girls here in Ireland, and cab shout a bit with a half decent voice, they'll make you a singer. And a lot of them rely on the older singers songs or songs of the past to get them through. The days of good song writing have long since gone. I personally think that stopped in rhe 1980's and the early part at that. And when there was a musical film out, something like the lion King, they still had to rely on older singers to write the songs. ( real music and real singers) I think are well and truely gone. I might be hated for saying that or considered mad, but that's my take on it.
STRONGLY recommend checking out “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers! Think you’ll enjoy it! 🙂 I ❤️ Sam Cooke as well! Listened to “A Change Is Gonna Come” like an hour ago actually, haha. He’s definitely in my Top 5 favorite artists from that era, or as I refer to it *A Better Time 🎶* (despite not having lived during it, like yourself).
Sam Cook singing the now anthem of "A Change Is Going To Come" touched Bobby Hatfield too. He recorded a cover of that song also along with many other solos and of course songs together with his singing brother Bill Medley you may want to react to. Some other solos of his are Summertime, Ebb Tide, Stay With Me Baby and the 3rd must hear duo song of "Soul and Inspiration". Ck out the Righteous Brothers singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" on the Ed Sullivan TV show, They were on the Shindig TV show as regulars for 2 years so plenty of videos of them singing lots of covers & their recorded songs. One video is their very 1st song, that got their long career going, Bill wrote "Lil Latin Lupe Loo". The b/w videos are grainy, annoying dancers and teen girls screaming at times but their perfectly blended soulful voices shine through.
Sam Cooke also sang Unchained Melody on one of his albums. It was ok, but it did not top this version. Many artists have sung Unchained Melody, but this song belongs to Bobby Hatfield's vocals
Probably mentioned below, but the song was written for a prison movie called "UNchained" in 1955, sung by a black opera singer named Todd Duncan - the clip is on UA-cam. Roy Hamilton and Sam Cooke, two black singers, released it in 1955 (also on UA-cam). But this version was the one that knocked it out of the park. Since then, it's been sung by hundreds of singers. None have sung it as well as Bobby.
I was born a year before this performance. My parents met because of their love of the Righteous Brothers. I’m so glad this performance was put on UA-cam and that you’ve reacted to it. It’s easily one of the top 5 live performances imho. Bobby had the voice of an angel and we were blessed to have heard it.
I love this track, but what I really love is seeing your smile as you listened to this absolutely amazing singer from another era. Music has the power to lift us out of everyday life into a better place. It can lift out souls. ❤
I LOVE the Righteous Brothers and Sam Cooke. "Cupid" is one of my fav songs to sing. This performance was incredible. RIP Bobby! Beautiful voice and man ❤❤❤
It has been a pleasure to watch and listen to you discovering all the wonderful music from back in the day. I’m a 73 year old white woman. I grew up with all this wonderful music. The Righteous Brothers were what they called Blue Eyed Soul. I guess that term wouldn’t go over very well in today’s world; but you know what? Great music is great music for all of us to enjoy and it knows no color. Thank you so much for your channel.
The singers were in a black bar one night singing and a man in the audience stood up and said, "That was Righteous Brothers." That's where they took their name from.
We were surrounded by so much premium music, that we had the audacity to think this was old-folks music. This guy rocks! Oh, just heard your Sam Cooke reference, Sam is my heart's poet.
funny you mentioned Sam Cooke. he did a cover version of this song. this version is a cover as well. the original song comes from a 1955 film called Unchained and it was sung by Todd Duncan in a very formal classic style. while a load of people covered this song, the Righteous Brothers version with Bobby Hatfield singing (as you just saw) is the most famous.
Man don't feel low or anything. If anyone that listens to this even being a man and don't get chills they have no soul. I am from that era and have heard this all my life just about. I would have been 9 when it came out on this show and got to see it the night it came on. I knew then at 9 that women would fall apart over this as my Mom and Sister's did at the time we watched it. I am i don't know how to say but used it a few times as i was dating to help me out so to say and it never failed. Still at 67yrs old give me chills.
To this day, this version of Unchained Melody is my 89 yr old father’s favorite. He said he heard it on the radio when he was in Korea during the war. I will always think of my dad when I hear it. Definitely haunting. ❤
He sings the meaning of the words and gives the words lots of respect (enunciation). He's a Steve Perry prototype in that way. So is Dolly Parton. These singers don't zone out of the meaning while they're performing -- at least not on the performances they're famous for. It makes me want to listen to the communication.
I have yet (I was born in 1963) to hear a man that can sing like this before or after him! He was nothing short of amazing and always will be.....the bar has been raised by him and will likely not be surpassed.
Bobby Hatfield had the best vocal talent in the world in my opinion. His range up and down the scale was effortless, remember this is a live performance and it was flawless. My all time favorite song and performance. Love love love ❤️
This song was done during the Viet Nam war. All the young men had been drafted. There were no young men in the towns, cities, villages, etc. All the young women had boy friends in the military. This song brings tears every time I hear it. We were just living to get letters from our loved ones over there. This song is like one of the letters we would get. The line about wait for me, wait for me, I'll be coming home, wait for me. That was our prayer. We wanted them to come home. A whole lot of them didn't. Those are the emotions that go along with this song from one who lived it at the time.

Yes. There have been different singers doing this sound over the years. But for me and many others this is the best version.

@@kathleenmayhorne3183 LOL
Unless you stumble across a rare talent. The only one I can think of in modern times even close to Bobby's talent (and still alive) is David Draimin.
He was feeling poorly that day but his Mom & fiancee were in the audience so he went on & gave one of the best live TV performances ever.
Notice how effortless it seemed to him. He didn’t even have to catch his breath after the final note. Truly amazing!
And he is so unassuming. There is no "look at me" and "how great I am".

I ❤️ Sam Cooke as well!
It was ok, but it did not top
this version.
Thanks, I didn’t know. ❤
His parents were in the audience and this was the first time they saw his performance...He was very nervous at first but ...he was a professional.
Bobby Hatfield epitomised Blue Eyed Soul. This performance is iconic and one of the best live performances of all time.
I love this track, but what I really love is seeing your smile as you listened to this absolutely amazing singer from another era. Music has the power to lift us out of everyday life into a better place. It can lift out souls. ❤
This is the best version of unchained melody ever recorded! And one of my favorite songs. He puts so much emotion into the song.
I LOVE the Righteous Brothers and Sam Cooke. "Cupid" is one of my fav songs to sing. This performance was incredible. RIP Bobby! Beautiful voice and man ❤❤❤
Great video I’m 73 and saw the Righteous BROTHERS so if you get them both together the baritone I even better😊
He performed absolutely effortlessly, just amazing
It has been a pleasure to watch and listen to you discovering all the wonderful music from back in the day. I’m a 73 year old white woman. I grew up with all this wonderful music. The Righteous Brothers were what they called Blue Eyed Soul. I guess that term wouldn’t go over very well in today’s world; but you know what? Great music is great music for all of us to enjoy and it knows no color. Thank you so much for your channel.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This gave me chills when I was a kid and at 71, still does. He sang so effortlessly but it was mind blowing perfection.
This version never fails to impress me and bring tears to my eyes. Great reaction.
funny you mentioned Sam Cooke. he did a cover version of this song. this version is a cover as well. the original song comes from a 1955 film called Unchained and it was sung by Todd Duncan in a very formal classic style. while a load of people covered this song, the Righteous Brothers version with Bobby Hatfield singing (as you just saw) is the most famous.
Have you heard their song Bring back that loving feeling. Beautiful. Love The Righteous Brothers ❤
One of the finest male voices in modern music. Thanks for your reaction.
My favorite song ever.
This is the beauty of pure talent and how people truly were artists and musicians back in the day . 🤘🎵
I love this song! Haven't heard it in forever. Thankyou Polo.
Oh Lord please don't let Me be misunderstood
That smile you got Polo... hadn't seen that before...great reaction ty
His vocal range is phenomenal with no effort and perfect pitch❤❤❤
These guys have been my favorites for many years. But I want to let you Know, you've got such an Amazing voice
Bobby Hatfield is amazing.
Back in the day when you could understand every single word of beautiful lyrics. ❤️
If anything can soothe an illness it’s definitely this song 😍
Hope you’re feeling much better very soon.
To this day, this version of Unchained Melody is my 89 yr old father’s favorite. He said he heard it on the radio when he was in Korea during the war. I will always think of my dad when I hear it. Definitely haunting. ❤
I close my eyes when I listened...Perfect. Thankyou.
Love, love, love this masterpiece!!
He sings the meaning of the words and gives the words lots of respect (enunciation). He's a Steve Perry prototype in that way. So is Dolly Parton. These singers don't zone out of the meaning while they're performing -- at least not on the performances they're famous for. It makes me want to listen to the communication.
LIVE! PERFECTION! AMAZING
I have yet (I was born in 1963) to hear a man that can sing like this before or after him! He was nothing short of amazing and always will be.....the bar has been raised by him and will likely not be surpassed.
...and he had a head cold that day! His mother was in the audience and he didn't want to let her down. This is what greatness sounds like.
I am 73 and this is my favorite song of all.
Bobby Hatfield had the best vocal talent in the world in my opinion. His range up and down the scale was effortless, remember this is a live performance and it was flawless. My all time favorite song and performance. Love love love ❤️
Masterclass in vocal technique and performance
I love watching the enjoyment flicker across your face.
So much great music in that era. I'm 77 years old so I was there for so much of it. It's so great to see you embrace it. Love you Polo!
That little smile was for his mum, who was sitting in the audience for the first time, and he knew he had smashed it
The blending of genres in this song makes it so powerful! It combines soul, opera, pop, rock and easy listening.
Live, no recording gimmicks and brilliant. One of the greatest pop live vocal performances of all time.
MEMORIES im 73. Love it.
Flawless
