Were all American brothers and sisters
look up Whitney Houstons first tv performance ever....song is "Home"
Her National Anthem at the Super Bowl was memorable. Cried
I so enjoy a new generation finding the soul of my generations music. Bobby Hatfield was an amazing talent. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe. ❤😊
Bobby Hatfield baby!!
No autotune? Welcome to the 60's and 70's. Only requirement? Talent!
I'm a Black American (not Afro-American!), 82 years old and this music is my time. It was also the time of JFK, of MLK, and the time my son fell in love with the white girl next door... it was a good time. I never felt oppressed, never excluded and I only knew racism from television. Blue Eye Soul, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Billie Holiday, Righteous Brothers, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder...that's music. This is soul. This is life. I miss the 50's, 60's and 70's. Today I don't even like to turn on my radio and on TV I see people who no longer know what they are and ask me what I identify as. I am a black man who had a good and free life in Alabama. I'm a proud American living at peace with my neighbors. God save America!
Amen!!
Thank you Sir!
God bless you Sir.
I am a 57-year-old man living with stage four lung cancer. And I am very proud of what you just said sir. Have a blessed life.
@@lanceandmelanierogers6255 Fight! Every minute is worth living. Every pain says you are alive. It is hard, it is painful, it is scary, it is challenging ... it is life. Wishing you and your family all the best. I'm not a doctor, I'm not a healer, I'm a simple black guy but I know that every moment, even the painful ones, are worth it. I'm not just a black guy ... I am a heavy smoker. I have been smoking since I was 14 years old. Not less than 3 packs a day I smoke ... and about 3 weeks ago I bought a new bike. Life hurts ... but it is worth it.
71 yr. old white woman...this was the best music to grow up with. One of my favorite all time songs is Otis Redding "Sitting On The Dock of the Bay".
Me too, used to lie on my bedroom floor listening to my Otis Redding LP drifting away to some foreign shore, bliss, thanks Anita for the memories. Love from the UK
He was feeling poorly that day but his Mom & fiancee were in the audience so he went on & gave one of the best live TV performances ever.
Definitely the "turn the lights off, slow dance" song of the 60s.
My husband and I had been separated for several months and this song came on the radio on my way to go pick him up. I was driving with tears running down my face. Anyone who isn’t moved by this gorgeous work of art might wanna check their own pulse because you’re probably dead.
Wishing you all the best 😊
And that was live on TV. He made it look so effortless and natural. He was one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
Notice how effortless it seemed to him. He didn’t even have to catch his breath after the final note. Truly amazing!
And he is so unassuming. There is no "look at me" and "how great I am".
I've seen him do that run, but this time I just listened .You're right, Arthur. It does look effortless, and it sounds effortless. And Yes! that final note.! : ) Cheers!
Imagine this being the STANDARD for talent or to get on TV. Those days are long gone.
If you couldn't sing in tune and well then, you had to go home to sing in your shower.
So beautiful. Thank you Bobby Hatfield! RIP, you will always be loved and remembered ❤
A lot of people fell in love with each other while dancing to this song. Many were going to Viet Nam.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm a 70 year old great grandmother and I will forever say that my generation had the best music!!!!!!
Me too! 70 years also. Brings a tear to my eyes every time.
Agreed, 1000% 👍👍👍
Agree, the absolute best music!!!
Listen to TOOL 😊
Me too Anne. I'm 72 & that is my favorite song of all time. It transports me back to my teens any time I hear it. What a special voice Bobby Hatfield had. I've heard covers but non compares to him.
I’m so incredibly blessed to be a Boomer! We had the best music EVER, and I doubt anyone would disagree with that. Golden age, baby, golden age!! 😂
Yes, he does have pipes on him. And he's so talented that he isn't even straining when he sings. Amazing song.
Past tense😢Bobby passed over in 2003. RIP🌈🙏
When Bobby bites his lip at the end because he knew he nailed it always gets me when I watch the live version. it's so cute 🥰
The lip bite was a nervous habit he had.
@@Aurora-tp3dy If I remember right, he was extra nervous because his parents were in the audience.
It's because he had a cold (can you believe that!?!?) and his mom was in the audience. He said he was nervous because he wanted to do his best for her, and at the end he knew that he'd nailed it. And this is live with no auto-tune on old technology. Hatfield was a freakin' amazing singer!
When Bobby bites his lip, I melt
I am a Black American Man that just turned 50. I love , love , this song. I'm glad you were able to feel the joy I've always felt listening to him sing his heart out.
My brother John (RIP) became friends with Bobby Hatfield when he use to come and hang at the bar my brother was bartending at the Hilton in Atlantic City. Bobby would hang at the bar after performances at the casino. They became such friends that the would go out to local bars together doing karaoke. RIP Bobby too
No auto tune, just Bobby Hatfield's incredible talent voice!
💯
Believe it or not, there are "Artists" that actually possess talent!
Auto tune didn't exist then. 😉
This song is kryptonite for the ladies, and probably always will be.
This is Bobby Hatfield, one half of the group. Bill Medley is the other half and he sat out on this song. They are credited with creating the “blue eyed soul” genre. A great performance. His mother was in the audience and he was a little nervous. No autotune, so true. You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling is their biggest hit, a must listen.
Plus crippling stage fright to begin with. Great comment
Teachers pet
And LIVE....no studio overdubbing here.
My mom LOVED them. Idk if true or not but she said they were at a place with a bunch of groups singing and a member of a black R&B soul group said "Man, that's some righteous singing right there!"...and that's how they got the name Righteous Brothers
Edit: Pitch correction (commonly referred to as Auto Tune) was rarely ever used before Cher's song "Believe" released in 98 became a huge hit and it was known as the "Cher effect". Afterwards, it was greatly overused for its original purpose...pitch correction. So...it's a fairly new thing of the past 25 or so yrs
A radio disc jockey in Philadelphia actually coined the term "blue eyed soul" in reference to them.
When you went "Oooh" and made that appreciation face when Bobby hit his first "are you still mine?" I really smiled, because all I could think was "Wait for it."
me too, and I turn the sound up for the last bit
I was exactly thinking that too…”just wait” haha. Tingles. ❤🎉
I always tag You ain't heard nothing yet! to the end of that thought. Lol
As teens at dances the girls would hold you tighter as you danced to this. Then in Nam it became an anthem of coming home.... "Wait for me!"
No auto tune needed> Just pure natural talent, which he had
I think some of the newer artist use autotune for their music. I grew up in the 80s is just raw talent
You've Lost That Loving Feeling has both men singing and is another gorgeous classic by them.
Yes! Listen to YOU LOST THAT LOVIN' FEELING. Please.❤
Back then they used to call it "blue-eyed soul". The 60s and 60s were the best for music. We had the best Motown sounds in the 60s as well. Wonderful music back then.
Bobby hatfield was 23 when he sung this song and was nervous as his parents were in the audience
The awesome Bobby Hatfield's solo! I was 15 yrs old when I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. He owns this song. His voice is awesome! No auto tunes, pure raw talent. RIP Bobby! We miss your beautiful voice! ❤️🙏❤️🙏
It has been a pleasure to watch and listen to you discovering all the wonderful music from back in the day. I’m a 73 year old white woman. I grew up with all this wonderful music. The Righteous Brothers were what they called Blue Eyed Soul. I guess that term wouldn’t go over very well in today’s world; but you know what? Great music is great music for all of us to enjoy and it knows no color. Thank you so much for your channel.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is regarded as one of greatest , if not THE greatest, live performance of all time.
My favorite male singer of all time, the late, great Bobby Hatfield.
I love that younger people are learning about these great artists. They are starting to understand why my generation just can't get into a lot of what is called music today. I'm not saying that the stuff today doesn't require talent, because each type of music requires a certain kind of "talent". It saddens me that a lot of what's being communicated today is anger, destruction, filthy language and depression. When I listen to music, I want to be entertained, made to feel good and that's what a lot of this type of music does. Great reaction!
This was my time growing up (I'm 73) and I've heard several people compare Sam Cooke and Bobby Hatfield like you did. Bobby's voice was off the charts. This was his song and NO ONE else should be allowed to attempt this one after he sung it
Talent was mandatory back then.... LOVE IT
The singer is the late, great Bobby Hatfield. He's one of the few counter-tenors you will hear in pop music. His partner, Bill Medley, has a voice that's as deep as Bobby's is high. Their harmonies are insane. The Righteous Brothers were one of the first Blue-Eyed Soul artists and many have followed in their footsteps.
I didn’t know he was a counter tenor!
I'm almost 70 a white woman and grew up with so great music that you're discovering. I like so many kinds of music. If you can dance to it, that's even better.
I am 73 and this is my favorite song of all.
His parents were in the audience and this was the first time they saw his performance...He was very nervous at first but ...he was a professional.
Yes, the boy has some pipes on him. Just pure talent.
Had 😢. One of the best ❤
He performed absolutely effortlessly, just amazing
You've lost that loving feeling, Bill and Bobbie together.
Pure gold
funny you mentioned Sam Cooke. he did a cover version of this song. this version is a cover as well. the original song comes from a 1955 film called Unchained and it was sung by Todd Duncan in a very formal classic style. while a load of people covered this song, the Righteous Brothers version with Bobby Hatfield singing (as you just saw) is the most famous.
...and he had a head cold that day! His mother was in the audience and he didn't want to let her down. This is what greatness sounds like.
Bobby wasn't the first to record this song, but he OWNS it with this performance, recorded live on The Andy Williams Show. The Righteous Brothers recording of "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" was the most radio played song of the 20th century. You should definitely check it out. Another of their greats was "Soul and Inspiration". Their music at the time was described as "blue eyed soul". As a sad commentary on the times, many "white" radio stations wouldn't initially play their music because they assumed that the performers were black. But thankfully, public opinion eventually overpowered such petty attitudes. Sadly, Bobby passed in 2003. But Bill Medley is still with us.
I got to see Bill Medley on a cruise recently.
His vocal range is phenomenal with no effort and perfect pitch❤❤❤
He sings the meaning of the words and gives the words lots of respect (enunciation). He's a Steve Perry prototype in that way. So is Dolly Parton. These singers don't zone out of the meaning while they're performing -- at least not on the performances they're famous for. It makes me want to listen to the communication.
I LOVE the Righteous Brothers and Sam Cooke. "Cupid" is one of my fav songs to sing. This performance was incredible. RIP Bobby! Beautiful voice and man ❤❤❤
This gave me chills when I was a kid and at 71, still does. He sang so effortlessly but it was mind blowing perfection.
An unstrained delivery by this honey-voiced performer of a poignant song; should be preserved forever in the Library of Congress on a shareable platform.
I was born a year before this performance. My parents met because of their love of the Righteous Brothers. I’m so glad this performance was put on UA-cam and that you’ve reacted to it. It’s easily one of the top 5 live performances imho. Bobby had the voice of an angel and we were blessed to have heard it.
Masterclass in vocal technique and performance
I have yet (I was born in 1963) to hear a man that can sing like this before or after him! He was nothing short of amazing and always will be.....the bar has been raised by him and will likely not be surpassed.
This song is a Gift that you send to your Baby to let her KNOW she's everything and more to you, till you can't Breath anymore
That little smile was for his mum, who was sitting in the audience for the first time, and he knew he had smashed it
STRONGLY recommend checking out “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers! Think you’ll enjoy it! 🙂
I ❤️ Sam Cooke as well! Listened to “A Change Is Gonna Come” like an hour ago actually, haha. He’s definitely in my Top 5 favorite artists from that era, or as I refer to it *A Better Time 🎶* (despite not having lived during it, like yourself).
Sam Cook singing the now anthem of "A Change Is Going To Come" touched Bobby Hatfield too. He recorded a cover of that song also along with many other solos and of course songs together with his singing brother Bill Medley you may want to react to. Some other solos of his are Summertime, Ebb Tide, Stay With Me Baby and the 3rd must hear duo song of "Soul and Inspiration". Ck out the Righteous Brothers singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" on the Ed Sullivan TV show, They were on the Shindig TV show as regulars for 2 years so plenty of videos of them singing lots of covers & their recorded songs. One video is their very 1st song, that got their long career going, Bill wrote "Lil Latin Lupe Loo". The b/w videos are grainy, annoying dancers and teen girls screaming at times but their perfectly blended soulful voices shine through.
Sam Cooke also sang Unchained Melody on one of his albums. It was ok, but it did not top
this version. Many artists have sung Unchained Melody, but this song belongs to Bobby Hatfield's vocals
Feel better soon. I don't even need to watch the video, NO ONE has ever or ever will sing this like Bobby Haytfield.
This is the best version of unchained melody ever recorded! And one of my favorite songs. He puts so much emotion into the song.
One of the finest male voices in modern music. Thanks for your reaction.
This version never fails to impress me and bring tears to my eyes. Great reaction.
Polo ! I am a 60 year old Irish woman. I grew up in the 70's so I grew up listening to 1970's artists obviously which I still love, but I was also introduced to 1950' and 1960's artists at a very early age through my parents, so you could say I grew up with the lot. And believe it or not listening to somec1940's music. We were not a musical family in the sense of playing instruments or singing ourselves, but we definitely loved music. Iidrened to your own comments about the Righteous brothers and this particular song, unchained melody. You said you were listening to lyrics and I could definitely see that. Some people would say it's my age and and say it about others of my own generation, but definitely the old songs are the best I was telling my nephew that years ago you had to prove yourself a good singer before you were allowed up on a stage and a good song writer. Now a days I feel if your just a good looking fella or young one as we say about the girls here in Ireland, and cab shout a bit with a half decent voice, they'll make you a singer. And a lot of them rely on the older singers songs or songs of the past to get them through. The days of good song writing have long since gone. I personally think that stopped in rhe 1980's and the early part at that. And when there was a musical film out, something like the lion King, they still had to rely on older singers to write the songs. ( real music and real singers) I think are well and truely gone. I might be hated for saying that or considered mad, but that's my take on it.
I listened to your own comments, that should read
This is the beauty of pure talent and how people truly were artists and musicians back in the day . 🤘🎵
‘No autotune, no riff raff, just pure talent’ plus dramatic or put upon facial expressions of ‘look how hard I’m working’
Riff raff😂 great comment 👍
Live, no recording gimmicks and brilliant. One of the greatest pop live vocal performances of all time.
The original blue eyed soul. The Righteous Brothers were over the top! Check out some more.
If this song/voice doesn't stir your soul, you're dead inside!
If anything can soothe an illness it’s definitely this song 😍
Hope you’re feeling much better very soon.
Flawless
The effortlessness is what kills me.
My parents were teenagers in the 50’s & I grew up with this music & so many early soul and rock n roll songs in addition to my music in the 70’s & 80’s. We were taught about ALL kinds of music. My grandparents were into big bands & early soul & blues too. So happy to be born when I was, 1963. ❤❤❤
Have you heard their song Bring back that loving feeling. Beautiful. Love The Righteous Brothers ❤
1965,.....There were Thousands of Young Americans stationed in Southeast Asia, Who probably went to sleep thinking about the girl they have back home......almost is if the lyrics, were written for Them.
Amazing. Try You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling. Supposedly the most played song of the 20th century
The singers were in a black bar one night singing and a man in the audience stood up and said, "That was Righteous Brothers." That's where they took their name from.
My parents just had their 48th wedding anniversary. This is their song ❤
Now you need to hear Bill Medley the other half of this group, the righteous Brothers he’ll knock your socks off you’ll even think he’s black
Oh I love blue eyed soul!💜…
Remember that he is doing this live in front of an audience on the Andy Williams show in 1965, and that his parents are in the audience. Pressures on!!!
I watched this live when I was 16 years old. These guys had great voices.
He is A Very Special Singer❤
I appreciate that you give your reaction to videos without using foul language. How refreshing.
OMG you are a lovely man to listen to all of these white singers and bands that I grew up with. You rock Polo.
I watch your videos because it is so good to see someone of your generation appreciating the music we loved. You often say the songs make you happy or relaxed, well now you know the secret of how to be happy and not stressed as so many of the youngsters are nowadays.
So much great music in that era. I'm 77 years old so I was there for so much of it. It's so great to see you embrace it. Love you Polo!
You got good taste man….this era is way before our time but I like Sam Cooke as well. I like soul in general (Otis Redding, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye)
But in terms of good voices Roy Orbison is on that level as well
CAN YOU BELIEVE A PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS FROM BOBBY HATFIELD (RIGHTEOUS BROS) BACK IN 1965
BOBBY HATFIELD STUDIO VERSION WAS THE ONE USED IN THAT FAMOUS FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAYZE AND DEMI MOORE AND WHOOPIE GOLDBERG.
THIS PERFORMANCE WOULD NOW BE RATED AS "X-FACTOR PLUS"
Those boys sang.I remember it so well. Glad you love it.
You would really love the Righteous Brothers singing Summertime.
I don’t know if anyone mentioned this on the thread, but he actually was concerned about this performance because his mother came and he had a cold, so he was worried she’d be disappointed. He killed it.
At one point I could hear that he was slightly plugged up from his cold
He smiles at the end because his Mom was in the audience and and he did it it perfect.
Back when we were all neighbors and loved great music. Caring about each other and dancing and singing and working hard so that we could all enjoy life. We are all family no matter where you are from or what race you are we need to love and care for one another again like we did back then. If someone had a need we all stepped in and helped. Faith hope and love and the greatest of these is love.
Epic song and performance ! Was given a reboot in 1991, thanks to Swayze and Ghost.
Such a classic.
This song, right here is why we had SLOW dancing...NOTHING like dancing with someone you love to this song and many others during that time.
He had wonderful voice and breath control.
You need to check out the live version of “Summertime” by Bobby Hatfield. Amazing!
Straight from sober to unchained melody.... yeah... I'm here and loving it.
The song is from a movie called Unchained about a guy in prison and was covered by a lot of artists including Elvis, but it's clearly Bobby's song.
During the Vietnam war.... Our boys we're being sent away. We didn't know if we'd ever see them again! I have my memories....❤
Black, white, brown, it does not matter. We all fall in love this guy and his music.
I close my eyes when I listened...Perfect. Thankyou.
Great video I’m 73 and saw the Righteous BROTHERS so if you get them both together the baritone I even better😊
