Oh, man! You are going to lose your mind if you watch "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"! You have to hear what Bobby and Bill could do together. Righteous, indeed.
Exactly. the epitome of Blue Eyed Soul.
Summertime! Another Bobby song that is great.
@@creinicke1000 O.K.---but then it's Bill's turn with "I Just Wanna Make Love To You."
Please 🤞❤️
Agree! That song is perfection!
1) his mom was in the crowd.
2)no no no auto tune. Totally analog.
Now I understand why he bit his lip at the end - with mom watching, he was anxious not to blow it.
He said he was extremely nervous because she was there.
useless fact, 1 of the back up singers was this 14yo half breed kid ...her name is cher
His little "nailed it!" smile. Lol.
So was his fiancee. And he wasn't feeling well.
I get the chills everytime I hear this song, I love your reaction to it, I imagine that's how most people react, how could you not xx
Blue eyed soul at its finest!!!! I love seeing the younger generations appreciating and giving these previous performers their flowers!
The one and only righteous brothers always been on my playlist for many many years. They do not make music anymore like they did back then.❤
I just lost my dad today, and this was his and my mom's song (she passed in 2012). Have always loved this one. Today's been tough, but thank you for your honest appreciation of this true gem. ❤
You have sympathy darlin. Blessings of peace and comfort to you and your family.
I firmly believe we had the best raw talent back in the day.
ABSOLUTELY!
Almost 79 yrs old and still love to hear the "past" entertainers who had voices that needed no enhancements. My generation just expected it and we had great performers - all colors and ethnicities. We just loved their talent and music. I enjoy seeing the expressions and reactions of this young generation when they hear real talent. And yes, we have some today, but so much technology and enhancements go into their music we don't get to hear the real voice many times.
Not only was he singing live but he was very nervous because his mother was in the audience seeing him sing for the very first time AND he had a head cold and yet he absolutely nailed it as you can tell by his smile and lip bite at the end
Pure talent. Incredibly beautiful! As you say, no auto tune, no retakes, no dubbing, etc. like so many of today’s artists.
Watching from England UK 🏴 That voice gives me serious goosebumps down my spine the most beautiful song ever made sung by the beautiful voice I ever heard ❤️❤️❤️
I am 63 years old. Just started tuning in to your podcast and reaction videos. Love it. Keep doing it!!!
If there is a Rock~N~Roll heaven well then you know they have one hell of a band.
I have to say we had such great music to sing to, to dance or just listen. Music is magical. It can take you anywhere. Thanks for enjoying our great music era.
The music of the 60s and 70s was arguably the best ever! There were so many artists who could really sing! Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley (The Righteous Brothers) songs are but a sampling from that era.
Bobby Hatfield was notoriously nervous before performing before large audiences, more so on live TV. He was even more nervous for this 1965 performance because his mother was in the audience [for her first time] to watch her son perform live on national TV. While his nervousness was apparent during the monologue with Andy Williams, Bobby immediately settles into his "zone" when he starts singing.
Although literally hundreds of artists have covered this song, including Elvis, Bobby Hatfield will own this song forever!
I grew up as a teenager in the sixties and early 70’s so all these great singers are so close to my heart! Thanks for the walk back in time!
I am 71 and I grew up with all of this great stuff. James Brown, Righteous Bros, 4 Tops, Billy Stewart, Martha and Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Little Anthony and Imperials - all of them. And this one is live. Dare any of the newbies to sing live like this and bare it all with no auto tune.
I'm 60 and love a lot of different types of songs, music, but this was and always be the one perfect song to me.
You should check out the man hosting the TV show. Howard Andrew Williams (December 3, 1927 - September 25, 2012) was an American singer. He recorded 43 albums in his career, of which 15 have been gold certified[1] and three platinum certified.[2] He was also nominated for six Grammy Awards. He hosted The Andy Williams Show, a television variety show, from 1962 to 1971, along with numerous TV specials. The Andy Williams Show won three Emmy Awards. He sold more than 45 million records worldwide, including more than 10 million certified units in the United States.[3][4]
Williams was active in the music industry for over 70 years until his death in September 2012 from bladder cancer, at the age of 84.
I was watching your face while you were listening. And I saw this song taking you home in your soul. I literally saw the genuine event in your heart. I read people very well. I always have. And I can tell this number took you all the way home. I appreciate an honest, deeply felt reaction.
It has been many months since you first reacted to this. I am glad to hear how complimentary you were to this legend, singing a legendary song. Do not hesitate to give your opinions, ever. It is YOUR channel and the whole idea is to share opinions with your followers, and then they get to respond in return. Those with negatives opinions are entitled to express how they feel about it, but they should use decent manners. If they are rude or worse, just ignore them. They are not worth of anyone's time or emotion. Thanks BP. 🤗👌❣
The backdrop of the war and men being drafted makes the music of this era even more meaningful.
You need to hear the other brother one "IN UNCHAINED MELODY", saw both of them in person in 65, along with all the greats of my era. BEST times in the world for the BEST music EVER!!!!! I was raised with the music from the 40's on!
I cry my eyes out when I hear these guys and music back in the wonderful day♥️♥️♥️🇺🇸🇺🇸
The host is Andy Williams, a good singer back then. He had his own T V show.
I can't hear this without crying. I was a teenager in the 60's.. we had the best music.
Back in their day, a lot of people only heard them on the radio and they didn't get a lot of play because hearing them, people legitimately thought they were black because they were so soulful. The story I heard was that they used to play at a bar near a Marine base and the Marines called them righteous. Bobby Hatfield had an amazing voice!
I am 70 years old. And saw Charlie Daniel's band in concert❤
This was our wedding song for our 1st dance.
This is Righteous! Brother😉 lol. 1980.
This is a live performance. It was also the first time his Mom saw him sing this song. She was in the audience.
This song is a timeless classic
This was a cover of the song which from a movie and originally was recorded in 1955. The movie takes place in a prison. this song was sung by an inmate who was longing for his girlfriend on the outside. The man is contemplating an escape from prison to get back to her.
Your reaction was 100% respectful
The Righteous Brothers always each did a solo on their albums. It was originally made for a movie called Unchained in 1955. It was recorded by three other people at that time. So the song had pretty well saturated the airwaves at tha time. So to do it again only ten years later.. Bobby had been singing it a few years before he recorded it. The Brothers were working with Phil Spector at the time and he put Bobby's recording of Unchained Melody on the B side of a song he was promoting. The disk jockies weren't too crazy about the A side song. So they flipped it over and started playing Unchained Melody and Spector was insenced and started calling me radio stations to get them to stop playing Unchained Melody and to play the A side song . They didn't and Unchained Melody peaked at number 4 in 1965. Then when Ghost came out in 1990 the Righteous Brothers tried to get their record company to release Unchained Melody but, initially they wouldn't release it. So Bobby at age 50 went back into the recording studio and recorded another version and they put that one out. Then the record company decided to release the 1965 version and Righteous Brothers are the only group to have two versions of the same song in the top 20 at the same time!
For 1960's studio recordings, there rarely were any 'one-takes'. Many, if not most times, the musical arrangements would be changed, lyrics polished, and not all mics were created equally. There were few one track recordings around back in the 60's. Two or four tracks were the norm by then.
The little lip bite at the end signifying “ yes, I did that”.
BP, loving the content AND the commentary AND watching you discover all this great music! I’m from Sacramento and remember when all of this was playing on the radio. Please, if you can, react to anything from Robert Randolph & The Family Band (I play guitar and Robert is a genius - pedal steel guitar). Please keep putting out great content; I work for ACSO, based out of Oakland, and I listen to your videos on my drive home. Appreciate everything you do!
About a man in prison asking if his girl will wait.
With so much beauty in this world, why we all fighting??? Why??
Then there is THE one with both of them. You’ll cry all over again!
You’ve lost that loving feeling omg
I loved that song, but I was waaaay surprised it was a white guy singing. I said no way! It's gorgeous and so soulful! Righteous!
Hats off bro,, you nailed it
All the songs Bobby did solo were insane. He made solo albums after the two broke up and all successful. Unfortunately he died of an overdose.
He was super nervous singing that night cuz his mama was in the audience and he really wanted to do a good job for her and make her proud. ♥️
He had a cold as well.
Bobby had a fantastic voice. Did you know was a great college athlete?
Yes, he is that good. They ALL were.
Bill Medley has said that Bobby did not like to rehearse. He preferred to just to wing it on stage.
Lots of folks running around today who were conceived during this song
His Mom was there and he was singing for her!!
Oh man, the grinding that went on in basements to that song…..LMAO!
Everyone you just named my mom had as her funeral music. My parents were typical 50's kids young married in 60's. Color and style were not seen. Just good music.
This is last song Elvis was ever recorded singing right before his death in 1977.
Some music just got that vibration harmony, there's a BBC documentary called Sacred music
Self trained counter tenor! Wild.
Just think he has stage fright, his mother was there for the first seeing him live and he had a cold that night……Look at how relax he is hitting those high notes
"You've Lost That Loving Feeling," next.
Poor Righteous Teachers - Easy Star. I cant believe you made a reference about PRT
He sing for the GI,it was War with Vietnam, and a lot of Soldier wait for go Home to the Love
The real music all took place before the Beatles were ever heard of
Grew up with moms blasting this in the 80’s &90’s must be why I was told I had an old school at such a young age???Errr once younger age lol
And yeah- errybody know the song. They just don’t know who was actually singing it until they watched. Hell- other than mommas vinyl record, I ain’t know either lol. All I knew was Motown but maybe that’s bc moms is half n half? I ain’t got a clue but I knew good music when I heard it!
Please do this one, also live. You probably know this song
The Young Rascals "Groovin'" on The Ed Sullivan Show
This show was live. Andy Williams show
Grew up on this blue eyed soul brother. I’m 73 years old , black and we didn’t
care about color. All we knew was this guy can sing, and we embraced his
soulful talent…simply amazing to still hear his voice that gives me chills❤
Good point to make! Music was a powerful influence to help break down the color barriers you and I both knew as children. Talent doesn't care about skin color, and slowly but surely that had an impact on the world as music gave black performers a leading role in creating new musical genres, and both black and white audiences learned to appreciate the musicians who made great music regardless of the color of their skin. We are far from perfect today, but music has certainly helped contribute to moving the world in the right direction.
You are so correct. There was no color in music just talent. I still get weak in the knees when I hear the Platters.
Love & Peace ♥️💯
I’ve listened to just about the” 13:41 first time” presentations and this is tops. Love his description about performing live. Chills, smiles, tears, ….incredible Bobby ❤
Ok, black man, but there is no such thing as blue eyed soul. Any more than there is a such thing as afro haired rock.
Now you know why those of us who were teenagers in the 60s and now 'old farts' in our 70s still love that music. Can you say quality???
I've got these on vinyl. And many more.
My first job, at 16, was at a music store. Later, in my 20's the owner made me her manager. My favorite job ever.
The man at the club that said "that was Righteous Brothers!" was an African American Marine.
classic tale--nice to be sharing with the younger folk.
Nice
You should check out “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” to see them both sing! Loved seeing you feel this one! Bobby Hatfield had a soulful angelic voice! Bill ‘Medley is also amazing and together they are crazy! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
TOP GUN BABY!
Yes
Only song that makes tears well up in my eyes every time I hear it. R.I.P Bobby....we sure do miss you!
That's my FAVORITE by them! My Dad, when I got older, like 16 or so, would tell me that back in HIS day this was "panty dropping music." 😂😂 I forget what we were doing, but I want to say that we watching a movie that had a concert in it with ladies throwing bras and undies at the stage, but anyway the conversation came up. He caught me off guard and Dr. Pepper came out of my nose 😂
Yes
Apologies if someone has said it, but this was a LIVE TV show with a live orchestra that millions watched LIVE - no retakes, no do overs, no autotune. Just pure talent for everyone to see.
Exactly that! Live with no auto tune and/or manipulation of any kind. Also, he was on the tail end of a bad cold here and his parents were in the audience, so he wanted to do very well for them.
And he was nervous because his mom was in the audience.
Epic❤❤❤
If you bothered watching the video. He harps on it. WTF comment when you don't watch the video? He's spends quiet some time harping on it actually so there is no way to miss it if you actually watched.......
I was fortunate to have watched this live, it was amazing!!! THIS is PURE TALENT!!! no electric, no auto tune, pitch correct, etc.... just a man & a mic!!!! He NAILED it!!!
no auto tune... one take, one man, one mic untouchable performance... that's talent and practice perfected
I made the same comment
Yep...live TV performance, live audience, live orchestra.
Yep! No Lip Sync , Just Raw Natural Talent!! This Is My Parents' Favorite. I remember Them Slow Dancing, in the kitchen - Mom would be wrist-deep making meatloaf OR bent over taking something in/out of a HOT OVEN😂😊 AND MY DAD would come up behind Her and Start Dancing!! Mom would say, " Oh, For Pete's Sake! Can't You see my hands are a Mess!!❤❤❤😊😊😊!!!"
I can Still "See" Them Dancing EVERY TIME I hear This song.😢😢❤❤
@@connielyons562 thanks for sharing I love the word picture you painted.. 😊
Absolute talent was necessary in those days
And this was live. No lip synching. No auto-tune. Just pure talent.
The studio orchestra was also live. We watched the Andy Williams show all the time in the 60s. We only had a black-and-white TV, though. Finally got a color TV in early 70s.
That is true also Bobby had a head cold and momma is in the audience on Merv. Truley earth shattering❤❤
Indeed!
Also no background singers to make them sound better!
And there is also pure talent today. Listen to Angelina Jordan singing the same song at Nobel peace price ceremony last year 😍🤩

I am 66 years old, I love your reactions, and I love the way you share your feelings. Yes he was live, and it was a perfect song
I'm 69 and I agree. Great reaction to a great song. I would suggest checking out Tom Jones next, singing I'll Never Fall In Love Again.. Another mind blowing performance. WE HAD THE BEST MUSIC!!
Love your trip you are going to. Oh Kirk Franklin 🎉
Same age as me

And The Voice has ever song Tom Jones ever sang on the show. His 80th birthday!!
Yep it was 100% live, he also had a cold and was nervous because his parents were in the audience and it was the first time he had performed in front of them. He just opened his mouth and sang, incredible talent. All our boys in Vietnam were crying over this, wait for me wait for me.
Thank you for this historical context. Yes, our men were in vietnam during this time.
Bobby Hatfield was a counter tenor and Bill Medley was the baritone. Together they were magical. Bobby is gone now but Bill is still singing.
I am 81 years old and and I still cry over Bobby's tragic needless death.May God have mercy on his soul
@@catherinebida2531, me too.
This was on the Andy Williams Show...(Moon River)...During the Vietnam War...you can imagine the impact...His mom was in the audience and never seen him perform...note: he had a cold...💛
You should hear Andy Williams croon.not your style, but maybe best ever.😊
Shame he died so young from a terrible addiction, but left this gem😢.❤
@@RobertSmith-iw2kbIt's a shame you write claptrap presented as fact. He wasn't so young. 63 isn't extremely old, but certainly not very young. Most importantly, he didn't have a terrible addiction, unless you count cigarettes. Yes, a trace amount of cocaine turned up in the autopsy, but he died in his sleep from a run of the mill heart attack. Could make a list of what could cause that erroneous tox result. He wasn't feeling well so he had dinner in his room and fell asleep. Those close to him, family and friends, never saw him using or under the influence. The autopsy also found he had blockages in his arteries up to 95%...bypass surgery was needed. According to one of his sons, he had a doctor's appointment scheduled for after that tour. Too bad it wasn't before the tour.
Wanted to add: no drugs or drug paraphernalia was found in his room.
Ava Maria at RFKs funeral was epic.
@@Aurora-tp3dy The medical examiner's report stated that the cocaine precipitated his fatal heart attack, his had serious heart disease. Sixty-three is too young to die. He might have neglected his health. May he be with our heavenly father and may he sing to us again. Excuse me, I am tearing up again.
One way you know it's not a recorded track - Bobby added that, "I really need your love", for this live performance. And those falsettos. What a gift he had.
Tenor. No falsettos here. Just magnificent key changes & peak perfection.
Not falsetto. Bobby Hatfield sang countertenor.
Oh man! Chills after almost 60 years! Talent is colorless, timeless, beautiful!
RIGHTEOUS!!
Absolutely right ❤❤❤🔥🔥❤️❤️😊🌹🌹🌹🌹
The incomparable Bobby Hatfield. He is 25 years old here and had already been a pro baseball player and a naval aviator as well as having had the number one song in America with “You’ve Lost that Lovin Feeling”. Blue eyed legend.
Bobby Hatfield graduated from my High School (Anaheim High in Anaheim California) He was the MVP on the baseball team but never played Pro ball he gave up baseball for his music career. He was also class President from 1957-58. I attended 10 years later but he was very well known to all that attended Anaheim High.
Bet the women went wild over him back in the day.
So lucky to go to high school when we could dance every Friday night to the Righteous Brothers, Motown and so many more...it was a great era of music and we also had the Rock N Roll greats!
He was a naval aviator? Such importance yet never heard. Where can I get more info on?
@@DianeAccettullo-yr1ht not a job or a vocation; just experience garnered in the four years he spent in the Naval reserves after high school, which, you are correct, there is almost no info on. Remember the draft was in play and men had to serve in some capacity unless granted an exemption. There is a picture or two out there of Bobby with his reserve unit. There is also a picture of him in the cockpit of a jet on the set of “Top Gun” and in some article a blurb of info saying Naval consultants on the film were surprised to learn of his experience.
Live and unedited….things just pure raw talent!!!!!
You’ve lost that loving feeling has them both and is amazing
The Righteous Brothers were called Blue Eyed Soul. This is THE DEFINITIVE recording of the song, because Bobby had a bad cold that night and his mother was in the audience to hear him sing live for the first time. These are just some of the reasons this is so special.
This live performance was the first time Bobby had performed in front of his parents, they were in the audience.✌️
I am a Boomer . I am so glad I grew up to listen to the best songs of rock and pop in history. Nobody outdoes Bobby in this performance. He set The bar so high. I have never heard anyone equal it in any song. There are a lot that came close to the bar but None is better than Bobby. He earned the gold medal of all time for male singers.
Absolutely
I have them on vinyl. 2 albums, my favorites.
I am happy that someone finally is recognizing that prior generations of musicians and singers had the talent that was just outstanding. They did what they did with talent, hard work and dedication. My generation had the BEST!
This is the greatest ballad ever recorded, in my opinion. Bobby Hatfield's voice is incredible!
Yeah, its actually a cover, and many others have done covers of the song. I dont even remember, who did the song originally, once Bobby sang it, he owned it. No other version is even in the same universe.
Jimmy Young sang it as well, before he became a dj on BBC Radio 2
@@dfuher968
I’m crying. Loved it as a lonely teenager, loved it in Ghost, loved it as a romance song. Love it so much-and now my husband of 53 years is in the nursing home. There is a lifetime for me in this amazing, stunning song! I’m glad you appreciate the talent of the sixties.
I work in one. I hope you and your husband are treated in as lovely, friendly, and respectful a way as I treat all my residents.
@@tangelite9968 ❤️😊
@@MarcIverson There are always a few who should work elsewhere. But for the most part he is treated with respect and kindness. ❤️😊
This song was recorded by 670 people worldwide including by Elvis. It will always belong to Bobby. They were called the first blue eyed soul and every colour woman loved them. I grew up to this. I used to request You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling every single week at our local dance. Bobby has the high notes and Bill has the deep notes. They are magic. They are not brothers.
No auto tune just a funny little microphone. Wait for the end notes and the little smile at the end because he got through it and his Mother was in the audience. I am 71 years old and we had the very best music to grow up with.
I always melt when he bites his lip at the end, then beams.
In a million years from now, this version of this song will still be the absolute GOLD standard.
His parents were in the audience and he was so proud to show up for them , see that smile at the end.
One take. Flawless, incredible range, depth, and control. One of the very few songs that still gives me goose bumps. A true masterpiece.
The man asking them questions was Andy Williams, a famous singer in his own right, and this was his TV show. I am 69 years old so I grew up with the music you are enjoying. My sisters and father and I "owned" the stereo all year, but come December 1, my mother took control and it was Andy Williams all month. He was what was known as a crooner. Check him out singing Moon River.
Born in '61 here. I grew up in a home where my mom played WLS (top 40 radio) all day in the kitchen. But most of my friends' parents played all the crooners. I feel like I got to enjoy the best of both worlds in a time when music was just magic.
I was born in '53 and my mother adored Andy Williams! I think I knew all the words to Moon River before I could read and write!
@@suecook1326 I was born in '54. My mother would fight your mother over him 😂.
Y'all I was born in 85. My parents were born in the 40s. I grew up on big band, doo wop, Lawrence Welk, black and white movies, musicals...love all of it.
ooooo.....Andy Williams.....Moon River: PRICELESS!!! LOVED his SOUND!! Loved A Time For Us, Where Do I Begin, and Speak Softly Love by him: SO GOOD!!! Your MOM had GREAT TASTE...and, it sound like she rubbed some o that off on YOU!!! :)
This has the reputation of being one of the greatest live performances of all time.
A 25 year old Bobby Hatfield could out sing anybody. He is my favorite male singer of all time.
Live no autotune no voiceover no lip-synching ! This is the only time his mother was ever in the audience to see him live ! The runs Bobby goes on in this song I just unbelievable both of them had incredible voices. You got a check out you’ve lost that loving, feeling rock ‘n’ roll, Heaven soul and inspiration. These are all great songs.
It was the first time she was there, not the only time. His dad is there, too.
I am 30 years older than you and this is one of the reasons my generation can claim to have the best music. Your enthusiasm is great!
The Righteous Brothers have been making girls "melt" for decades. They are exceptional.
I was one of those girls in 1965 when I was in high school.
@@thresajenkins5581 Same here. Graduated in 67.
Yes, harmonized and all by ear, no electronics, no software that puts the voice back into the tonality, all old-fashioned, no headset, just PURE TALENT.
I’m 74, I feel blessed to have lived through the songs and the talant of the singers , they could make you fall in love ,break your heart and heal it all in one song. One thing was certain you’d always leave the show feeling good. The radio in the car was always tuned in to all sorts of great listening from Rock to Country. These days I don’t even turn the radio on, seems it’s always bad news, sure hope that changes back to times like we had and shared with each other👍🇨🇦
Remember when you'd hear some of everything on the radio? Blues, rock, R&B, Motown... my nieces and nephews tease me when I turn on the 'Classic 60s and 70s' station... "Aunt Lynn! Do you know EVERY song from back then?!" "Yes. Yes, I do... this was great music and I spent my childhood in front of the radio."
I’m 83 and I couldn’t agree more, we had no worries back in the day and some of the best music would soothe your soul
imagine no auto tune, no crazy dancing, no gimmicks, no half dressed people ,,,,,, just pure vocal talent
Love your reaction, and the fact that you recognize that was the way it was. No auto-tune, just real natural talent. BTW during this performance Bobby had a heavy head cold, but he wanted it to be perfect because his mother was in the audience. RIP Bobby, we loved you. 💞
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! He doesn’t even break a sweat. He’s flawless. I grew up to these guys. No one better. One take…..LIVE!
I'm 74, and this came out when I was 15. 50's, 60's, and 70's, the best music and the best times.
Probably one of the greatest performances ever. The look on his face at the end says he knew he'd nailed it.
