I’m guessing by now y’all know just how strange the UA-cam algorithms can be in serving up what shows up on your “hey, maybe check this out” list, but I’ve just stumbled across the numerous reaction videos to this legendary performance of Bobby’s. What it find most amazing is that, IIRC, this was a segment of a live variety show hosted by a pretty decent singer in his own right, Andy Williams. As a 70+yo boomer, these type of shows - Ed Sullivan, Smothers Brothers, etc, were the fodder that were the gateway drug to my lifelong addiction to great musical performances in a wide range of genres. At the risk of crassness, this particular performance by Bobby must have left few dry eyes - and other areas of the females in the live studio audience. As many have said, in 1965 there was no technology for audio trickery that is now essentially taken for granted, and “live” meant just exactly that. There’s a reason that Bobby and Billy were bestowed the moniker of “Righteous Brothers” edit; and as I think the saying goes; hard to forget your first time
Some people think this was the greatest live vocal performance ever. I’ve never seen the intro or the outro before so I thank you for showing this. Such relaxed banter before and after that magnificent performance. Perfection is sometimes hidden in the mundane.
Best live performance ever. His voice is stand alone. He’s a countertenor, and he knows what to do with his voice. That’s what makes him a musician not just a singer.
The lyrics are so beautiful. I think the younger generation does not realize - in 1966, the Vietnam War was in swing. "I'll be coming home. Wait for me." That gives the song so much more meaning.
The Andy Williams orchestra in particular the strings section was on point with this beautiful version of 'Unchained Melody.' You add one of the greatest Tenor voices in Rock & Roll history (Bobby Hatfield) and you get what's considered to be the greatest live performance ever! Awesome reaction.
Bobby always put a lot of emotion in his songs! That's the only way both he and Bill knew how to sing. This is Bobby's song. No one can sing it as wonderful as he can!!

I would be very surprised if anyone will still know Taylor Swift in 60 years. This song, this duo, along with many other songs from that time, will still be known and loved.
This song, Unchained Melody, was written about a man in prison who missed his lover and wondered whether she would still be his by the time he was released from prison. So it’s full of desperate longing and other strong emotions. One of the things that makes this performance even more insanely good is the fact that Bobby Hatfield’s parents were in the audience and he was concerned about singing such a passionate song in front of the them. Bobby was such an incredible singer that there was no way he would do anything other than give it his all. I was a very little girl when my family watched this episode of the Andy Williams show. Thanks for doing this reaction!
The movie is called unchained and the actor/singer who sings it in movie is ToddDuncan the first Black Full time employee of the NYC opera. It's a great movie to btw if ya like old black and white movies
Wow, awesome background story & breakdown of info! 👍. Nothing like having watched the actual broadcast. Bobby was soooo on point singing this, & put so much tasteful embellishment beyond the original rendition. Extraordinary performance! I know Andy had to truly appreciate that, as he had one of the clearest pure tones of any voice I’ve heard as well. Thanks for sharing!
I was in the audience that night with my fiancee. I was leaving for a WestPac cruise for 6 months and I proposed. It worked. When Bobby passed away, we played and danced to this song all night after dinner. Thank you Bobby ( and Bill ) for all the years of talent you've given us!!!

That little lip bite at the end, that says he knows he nailed it. When singers had to be able to sing without technology to cover for them. Magical. Watching Dolly Parton sing "I will always love you" on the Porter Waggoner show has the same effect on me. Pure and shining talent.
Here are 3 others that you must review. "You've lost that Loving Feeling. Soul and Inspiration. 'You'l never walk away. Both brothers sing in those. You would believe Bill's voice. Just warning you.
"You'll Never Walk ALONE" is a live TV video from the Ed Sullivan Variety Hour, To hear solos of Bobby Hatfield singing, try "Summertime" and the records of "Ebb Tide", "Stay In My Corner". Bill Medley appears solo with the Blossoms singing backing vocals on his song "Brown Eyed Woman" on the TV show Playboy After Dark. Their early R&B/kinda doo wop songs on their Moonglow record album are plain soulful and some of their favorite kind of songs to sing. Lots of black n white videos of them from the Shindig TV show where they were regulars on for 2 yrs, I subscribed to your channel.
I love watching ladies react to this song, everyone of them look like Bobby is singing directly to them. I wish I could make ladies swoon over me like Bobby does.
Bobby Hatfield also does the classic song "Summertime". He really gets into it! The reason this is called unchained melody is that it came from a 1955 prison movie titled "Unchained"… Just about every famous singer of those times made a cover of this song, but in my opinion Bobby did it best.
I was 15 in 1965 when it first came out. It was on the radio constantly. Loved it then and 57 years later it still gives me chills! No one better yet than Bobby Hatfield. God bless his singing soul.
There really aren't love songs like this being made today. And every woman I've watched listening to this song for the first time, reacts to it like you did. We're starved for beauty and genuine emotion in music. Next Righteous Brothers song for you should be You've Lost That Loving Feeling, with Bobby Hatfield here and his partner, the great Bill Medley.
Everything you say is true. The underlying theme here is a longing for his woman, who he "loves, honors and cherishes". These timeless spiritual qualities are what men commit to uphold for a lifetime in an oath before friends and God Almighty! I believe that God made women to need this kind of cherished, honorable love in order to thrive, and when they hear such a rare song sung so masterfully, they react positively with their own longing. This spiritual theme is timeless. Sings with timeless truths as their message will last through the generations. Thank you, Bobby zHatfield, for giving voice to what so many "real" men feel about their wives and women. It is a tragedy that we are conditioned by this corrupted world to render us incapable of expressing what so many of us feel in our hearts. Rest in God's peace Mr. Hatfield. You must know how happy you still make women feel when they hear this song of longing and of love!❤
I was 9 years old when this performance was shown. Ten years later, we were still dancing to it. My old heart is so happy to see young people like you appreciating the great music of our era.
WOW !!! . How can you not be moved with a voice like that . A timeless classic indeed !! .Awesome song and reaction , especially you and the reaction:-) 💯 . Your hair looks nice on here ! Thank you 🙂

I got to see the righteous brothers live in the front row a few years ago and to watch the one still living sit alone on stage and sing this song in memory of his partner in crime was the most moving experience I’ve ever experienced. I bawled the whole time.

Loved your reaction! Yes, Bobby Hatfield was fantastic, so handsome, his voice totally amazing… so sad he died too soon. This song was in the movie, “Ghost “ ❤️
Hahaha - look at it this way - because there are so many thousands of great songs from before you were even born, let alone since, you have all of them to look forward to hearing. Us older folks can live vicariously through you hearing them for the first time.
The sad part is that most people have only ever heard the record/radio versions of this - or in the movie “Ghost” and this live performance is vastly better…so much more powerful and dynamic.
I remember hearing this song often in the 60s. I've always loved it. The song was highlighted in the 1990 movie Ghost starring Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore.
I believed I saw a woman fall in love with a man's voice and the sentiments of a heart-swelling song that WILL LIVE FOREVER. Best rendition EVER and it's been done hundreds and hundreds of times by other artists.

Everytime I hear this song I think of my one true love and even after 30 years I still get chills. It can bring me to tears. Music like that is timeless
It's so good to see the interplay between them at the start of the video. I love to see that kind of interaction. All the big bands have more than one star, and how they manage the egos is a key part of their success. They were both the righteous brothers in that both of them truly had incredible voices although in completely different ranges. Honestly they both had amazing voices. Bill and Bobby were equally talented, but this is probably their song that had the biggest public impact.
No Autotune, no high-tech microphone.no studio backgrounds. This was just a guy with a cheap mike and the orchestra while he put it all out there. The amazing thing is that at the very last note, he is not even out of breath.
That was the song that all the guys at the Friday noon hour sock hop, waited for. lol... I grew up in a great time.... I'm 71 and still loving these guys.
Watching the expressions on your face is why I watch reaction videos. Not to listen to a play by play analysis, but to watch the expressions of those who are experiencing a song for the first time, enables me to "relive" the first time I experienced it. Thank you!

This song never gets old. This song was my mom's favorite of all time.
Some songs are just gold. And timeless.
In the 60's Righteous was a word to describe something awesome. The Righteous Brothers were considered Blue Eyed Soul.
Touches my heart and makes my eyes water every single time I hear Bobby Hatfield sing this song! So profoundly beautiful! God speed Bobby.
Been listening to this song since it came out in 1965. It still gives me the chills.
Agreed, plus I would add 1 more. They did a great cover of the platters, The great pretender.
I love watching ladies react to this song, everyone of them look like Bobby is singing directly to them. I wish I could make ladies swoon over me like Bobby does.
This song is and always will be, women's kryptonite. 🌹
Bobby was 25 years old at the time.
I'm glad your generation is finding us old folks music and enjoying it.
Bobby Hatfield also does the classic song "Summertime". He really gets into it!
The reason this is called unchained melody is that it came from a 1955 prison movie titled "Unchained"…
Just about every famous singer of those times made a cover of this song, but in my opinion Bobby did it best.
A live performance, unbelievable
His mother sitting in the Audience most have been so proud of him the greatest
WOW !!! . How can you not be moved with a voice like that . A timeless classic indeed !! .Awesome song and reaction , especially you and the reaction:-) 💯 . Your hair looks nice on here ! Thank you 🙂
You Are Soooo Right Paul ♡
& Awe , Thank You For Such Awesome Feedback !!
Your Comments Are Valued 🙂
Catch You In My Next Upload 😅
Much better than modern music.
I'm 60 and he's my ken barbie ,lol but look at the pink suit and that's when you know he's not intimidated by the least ❤❤❤
I'm glad you chose this version as it shows the transition from a guy talking on stage to giving one of the best vocal performances of all time. Despite being nervous because his mother was in the audience!
He also had a cold!
It also shows there are two Righteous Brothers. Most reactors don't see the first part and wonder why one guy is called Brothers.
@@jethro1963 The gag is, they’re not even brothers.
I got to see the righteous brothers live in the front row a few years ago and to watch the one still living sit alone on stage and sing this song in memory of his partner in crime was the most moving experience I’ve ever experienced. I bawled the whole time.
This is how men sang to their GIRLS back in the 50s and 60s , I miss songs like this , I believe we need this again , I had to Run out and get a Dozen Red 🌹 Roses for MY WIFE TINA ❤ LOVE OF MY LIFE🥰🥰🥰 , and I have MY LORD JESUS to THANK FOR HER 🙏🏻✝️🙌
Loved your reaction! Yes, Bobby Hatfield was fantastic, so handsome, his voice totally amazing… so sad he died too soon.
This song was in the movie, “Ghost “ ❤️
Watching your reaction to this song enhanced the beauty of this performance. It's hard to imagine a better solo performance.
The 60,s and 70,s produced so much amazing music, so glad it was my era ❤️
Hahaha - look at it this way - because there are so many thousands of great songs from before you were even born, let alone since, you have all of them to look forward to hearing.
Us older folks can live vicariously through you hearing them for the first time.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it like we did
In 1965 I was 14
(1950s-60s : )
25 years later this song was played in the 1990 movie Ghost
The sad part is that most people have only ever heard the record/radio versions of this - or in the movie “Ghost” and this live performance is vastly better…so much more powerful and dynamic.
I remember hearing this song often in the 60s. I've always loved it. The song was highlighted in the 1990 movie Ghost starring Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore.
I'm not surprised you were moved by this song, after all love is timeless, great reaction!
This pretty smart young lady surely knows and appreciates a sterling outstanding voice.
I believed I saw a woman fall in love with a man's voice and the sentiments of a heart-swelling song that WILL LIVE FOREVER. Best rendition EVER and it's been done hundreds and hundreds of times by other artists.
Um homem e um microfone, sem ajuste eletrônicos,só telento bruto e o final é só umas das melhores apresentação ao vivo de todos os tempo!!!!
Sweet reaction to this timeless classic. I played this song every day that my husband was in the Vietnam War. Thank you.
Blue-eyed soul at it's best.🙂
Bobby Hatfield had an incredible Voice. This is my al ll time favorite song and performance of it. It's no wonder it was a SMSH HIT even today. RIP Bobby.
Iam so grateful to been a witness to this music growing up it makes me smile every time I listen to this music, not just this song and artist but all the music of this time
Everytime I hear this song I think of my one true love and even after 30 years I still get chills.
Such raw talent! God definitely Blessed him with such a phenomenal voice.
I thought that reading your mind when he sang “I really need your love” you were thinking, well you got it! Great reactions to this beautiful song!
Thank you!
The man who introduced Bobby Hatfield in this video, is also a great singer.
React to Andy William's...Moon River.
Been listening to this since 1965 and have never tired of it. Saw them in person but can't remember if they sang this or not.
Here's a gift of 60's tunes for you -- and after your reaction, your followers will love you for it.
The Righteous Bro are the gold standard for vocal duos in the mid-six '60s. Each one of these is related to the RB catalog and is powerful in its own way. - Shoutout to Big Rich from Sheepshead Bay for posting these opportunities to enrich your soul.
== "Woman, Woman" by GARY PUCKETT AND THE UNION GAP and another piece of a diamond - "Lady Willpower" - it's doubtful any of you or your listeners can stay seated when they hear these voices and listen to the words -- their stories girls - but for sheer get down and boogie, don't pass on Fontella Bass sending you up and moving - this is "Rescue Me" with an amazing group thumpin' == featuring great baselines driving the rhythm - you gotta get up and move or maybe you're dead. Hey let me know what you spark to so I can keep feeding you and you educate those young women
Songs in the sixties are actual SONGS, superb writing, and mixing, backing vocals, lead singers, and solid bands that could make you move, cry, laugh, and make you want to invite a sweetie or bestie to share together music.
This is the second one of your reactions I have seen. I really like the text messages you put on the screen while you are listening to the songs, shows what you feel without Interrupting the song. I grew up with this kind of music and you are right it will live forever. A lot of the music from my life time will live forever. It is great to see young people such as you enjoying the music from my generation.
I enjoy watching young folks being blown away by Bobby's voice , Andy Williams whose show this was on had a great voice too , Moon River is a beautiful song . I'm a 60' 70's guy , but my mom always albums playing on the HI-FI and i grew to love this music along with my own.
