What we really need is ice and bug type improvements...
Bug yes ice no. Ice is fantastic offensively one simple tweak could be an overtune
@@Yethegoat10just make it resist something, flying, dragon, grass, something, it needs something other than itself, because most of the ice types that have been added are extremely bulky and slow, they need a resist to counteract those weaknesses

True
i get this refrence
the 18 existing types can basically be applied to almost any concept now so people trying to squeeze in a new type sound genuinely insane to me when they're trying to pick something that couldn't already be covered, like how cosmic type would basically just be half the psychic pokemon
i've heard people suggest with 100% sincerity that the games absolutely need types for things that could be applied to like 7 ideas total before they start repeating themselves in pokemon designs
Plus, the games are well balanced enough and new types would just break that and over compicate things. I know certaintypes are not balanced well but I think fixing that would just break something else.
Yeah, hell there are even types that can just turn into move types, like poison or sand

Thank you for bringing up the whole "Dark is intended to be the Evil, mischievous type" because a lot of people don't know about that and people taking it for literal darkness bothers me
And yeah, we don't really count Stellar as a type because:
1) It doesn't have a type match-up, only against the Tera *mechanic* so that doesn't count.
2) Again, it's linked inherently to a phenomenon/mechanic and doesn't exist naturally.
Glad to see someone talking about Stellar. It’s more like Curse’s old ??? type than an actual new thing like Fairy
I actually think "dark" is a more accurate depiction than evil. Dark as in gloomy, violent or mean spirited. Absol is not evil, but it is edgy and has dark lore to it. It also encompasses the outliers like black hole eclipse or night daze. Basically the edgy type and the opposite would be a wholesome type.

“Surely we’ll get the dating sim element at some point!”
The lost Xtranceiver side quest with Yancy/Curtis in BW2 could probably count as something close to a dating sim. It was small, but it was neat how you actually connected with a different character in the game over time.
New types are only introduced to fix balance issues.
Dark was made to check Psychic offensively, while Steel resists it. Similarly to how Fairy was created to check Dragon types after they ran amok in the Gen V competitive scene. The addition of Fairy also gave Steel and Poison types more offensive utility, with Poison only having one type weak to it previously (grass).
Even now Fairy is still pretty tough. I imagine that if we got a new type it would be to give more weaknesses to Fairy.
This is part of the reason I've been nominating Beast Type. In movies it always seems like faeries have that one animal that they can't tame despite their crazy magic
Furthermore, Natural Disasters are the best way to put a beast down= Weakness to (Wild)Fire, Rock(Slides) and most crucially the Ice (Age)
I'd also like to give it a mutual Super effectiveness with Dragon to reference the Tiger and Dragon story.
@@DarkGekkouga honestly, I like your logic more than the logic I’ve seen put behind the Sound-Type. It definitely seems cool.
However, My biggest issue is how they would decide what types would retroactively become Beast-Type.
@@DarkGekkougaActually, a lot of Normal types could use the Beast type (Ursaring, Stoutland, etc.).
@@DarkGekkougaNormal already functions as a “beast” type, and that’s like half of Normal types. They just need to rebalance using the types they already have, starting by reversing Fairy’s resistance to Bug. It’s ironic that the type introduced for game balance also nerfed the weakest type in the game for no reason while making itself the most overtuned type in the game.
@@nategwright Yeah looking through the only normal types that you couldn't argue beast for are like, ditto, eevee, the porygons, castform, legends/mythics like regigigas or arceus, and... arboliva.
Guess one could add the normal/flying types? Flying is an honorary bird type and thats more accurate than beast.
BTW, there is a Dating Sim element in Black 2 and White 2

I'm dissapointed that the dating sim aspect of those games does not lead to the player dating the two of them and it becomes a sad reminder of idol culture or celebrity culture in general.

Adding new types? What about *making the Ice type resist more types* instead?
Literally, Ice was only good this gen because they can just not be Ice type 💀💀
even if it just got a single extra resistance to something like dragon or grass, it'd probably be met with mass celebration

I doubt it, because:
[1]: They would basically have to update Terapagos's design and the Stellar Tera Jewel accordingly.
[2]: What would the type matchups of fake types like 'Sound' be?
Stellar type is barely a type anyway, it's just a battle mechanic.
Sound is way too vague to make much sense.
Like Tera is gonna be sticking around lmao
@@charnalk5572Stellar is considerably different from the rest of the types, but is still technically a type itself.
@@4skintim962When Paldea eventually gets remade, it probably will. It could also be in the B/W remakes, Legends Paldea/Kitakami, or Gen X.
@@Mystmon Not really, there's no stellar type pokemon.
Stellar type is only an offensive mechanic that interacts with terastalisation, it doesn't interact with the type chart at all (it's basically ??? type, doesn't interact with anything but ??? only existed as fall back type for the "multi-type"/multi effect per type move curse or the "shadow" type. They got rid of it once they realized they could just code better).
Something I love about a Pokémon-like called Cassette Beasts is how they have a lot of the same types as Pokémon, but with the addition of Plastic, Glass, Beast, and Glitter, while Ground and Rock are combined into the Earth type, and Astral being a combo of Dark, Psychic, AND Ghost. The best part? You can do some INSANE combinations of attacks to inflict different status effects, even some that temporarily change the type and colour scheme of opponents. Plus Shinies (or Bootlegs in this case) actually change TYPE as well as colours!

@@Mystmon Nice 👌🏽
Fighting type is also kind of like the "hero" type and therefore also already serves as darks light type. Also, fire is literally light, as well as electricity.
We really don't need any more types, they start to get too specific and it would make matchups and everything too complicated. Sure advanced players would be fine, but the Pokémon games are still aimed at kids at the end of the day.
Edit because my reply disappeared: cosmic is pretty redundant because the Pokémon that could be cosmic already fit into a variety of preexisting types. Generally, they could be psychic, steel, even rock, dragon, or fairy. There's lots of folklore and cultural inspirations, and a whole heap of other reasons why the types are what they are, and why certain Pokémon fit into certain types. Gnoggin has some excellent videos on the matter.
As for a "mysterious" type, that's way too vague. Just make them dark or psychic. Mysterious is an adjective man; there's plenty of already mysterious Pokémon (like 90% of the legendaries).
Cosmic
@@rheeeeeee2011 cosmic type is also pretty redundant. The cosmic looking Pokémon already fit nicely into a variety of different types depending on which specific ones you're thinking about, and generally they could easily be psychic, steel, even rock, or dragon, fairy, etc. I'd recommend watching lockstin/gnoggins videos it helps to get a better understanding of the types, their themes and why certain Pokémon are certain types, its really interesting
Need the cosmic and misteryous type to balance the game
Ya'll check for my edit I think UA-cam thought my reply was spam
Fairy type sucks. Change my mind.
Pretty much the only times GF added types was to nerf overpowered types.
Gen 1 psychic was godlike, so steel and dark were created to stop it (yes, it needed two new types to keep it in check)
And dragon in gen 4 and 5 dominated the meta, so fairy was created to stop that
Steel was made to nerf Normal. Psychic was insane in game but in comp Normal is the big thing running around, between Snorlax, Tauros, and Chansey along with Body Slam spam. And even that didn't work the best because Lax is still the best mon in gen 2 comp.
@@chriskusmerz1636 steel was probably made to nerf both, tbh, but normal fell off later on anyway
I mean the reasons why Normal and Psychic were op in gen 1 is because their counters back then sucked. Fighting and Bug types had horrible moves, and Ghost hardly even had moves(accidentally making Psychic immune to Ghost didn’t help matters) Rock had some use, but it was still easily taken down by Water and Grass types
What we really need is an eeveelution that goes with sylveon like a dragon or steel type one
B2W2 had dating as a mechanic
Everybody only remembers BW for its shitty anime 😔
Honestly stellar is more of a gimmick than a type in my eyes. It's perfectly fine to exist, I just don't think they should add any new stellar types.
I've seen people argue that Rock and Ground should be combined into an Earth type, but that's stupid. They're functionally very different types, even if they come from the same place. The same people will then argue that if Rock and Ground are different types, then there should be a Wood type.. but aside from possibly a Fighting weakness, it's interactions with the other types would be identical to Grass.
I think a Digital type could be cool, but there may be too much overlap with Electric or even Steel
That would technically turn them into digimon cuz you know digimon = digital monster
I want a Pokémon crossover with Zelda image how cool that would be
Whoever wants nuclear type knows the true power it wields.

To be fair, that IS a swlf-aware joke hack
I tried to redo Too Many Cooks as Too Many Types but I’m on my phone so while I was trying to figure what TYPES stood for in the Cybernetic Operational Optimized Knights of Science segment, the whole thing got erased. Just know that out there in the multiverse, there exists a timeline where phones are constructed and programmed to actually do what their owners want and on that timeline, I spend over an hour making a UA-cam comment nobody understands anyway.
I was gonna say Wack but yours is probably better
The problem with a new type would be that it would be either too strong or too weak. We have the perfect exemple with fairy and stellar types
fairy is only OP because they made it only weak to poison and steel, and gave many of the ridiculously high stats, and immune to dragon.
It was made to placate weddings that struggled and complained about Gen 4 and 5
I feel like we could squeeze one more type in. But have it be weak to the types that everyone dunks on like ice and bug. Either that or just bite the bullet and give ice types and actual resist spread. All these defensive ice type on a type clearly meant to be offensive is wild
@danielbarnes1241 as someone who has worked with adding a new type, it's an extremely delicate process but it is certainly doable
I made my new type Music(basically an improved version of the sound type like how Fairy is an improved version of the Light Type concept)
Strong Against: Water, Steel, and Fairy
Weak Against: Bug, Poison, and Psychic
Resist: Water, Steel, Fairy, and itself
And is resisted by: Ice, Bug, Psychic, and itself
Also to further help the type chart
Bug now resists Psychic
Ice now resists Ground
And Grass now resists Ghost
sound type used to be a viable addition, back when most sound based moves/pokemon were either normal type or could realistically have it grafted onto them, but now there's a lot of pokémon that are very clearly sound based, but are also very clearly a specific type combo, with signature sound based moves that are very clearly specific types. combine that with all the support the moves have, support that'd feel weird on one specific type, and a sound type just isn't in the cards anymore.
Nuclear type:
Pokemon Uranium: *i got you bro*
It's possible that I'm missing something, but I don't understand why some people talk about stellar as if it were a type.
1: There are no stellar pokemon. Stellar is only accessible via terra.
2: If, say, Chien-Pao went terra stellar, It would still a dark and ice type. (Stellar is not part of the type chart.)
Again, it seems to me like stellar was never designed to be a new type, but was only designed to be a terra type.
That Pokémon Snakewood reference caught me really off-guard. I had not thought about for at least 10 years and now it is all back
The nuclear type already exists... Technically. In the pokemon fan game pokemon uranium the are nuclear pokemon. They're just regular pokemon who got caught in a nuclear explosion.
Pokémon masters ex actually has some dating sim elements, in which you befriend and experience special stories with trainers :)

Pokemon Uranium explores the idea of a nuclear type, great game btw!
We need Furry type, something weak to normal type.
Let’s be real the Pokemon Type Chary is already complex so making another type will throw it all over the place
All I want is to give my Pokémon cute little accessories. Like in the Let's Go games. I would definitely put a big ol bowtie on Gallade in a headbeat.
We deserve Pokémon drip in the main games
@@longbeing Fr cuz why can we have drip and they can't? That's not fair I'd say.

I like stellar type as it’s less a Type and more the true manifestation of Terastal Energy. Although it could be turned into a new proper type next gen but more themed around the stars.
I find it interesting that not only did the card game start off with more types (one of which was adapted into the games under a different name), but it also dropped a type after just one generation.
The Psychic types association with the Cosmos shouldn't need an explanation. The Universe runs on basic principles of mathematics. I dont know how much more you need than that.

Funny thing is, Sound type IS a thing in the fan game Pokemon Prism, alongside Gas type.
"Plenty from space" shows all 4
I'd love the food type. I think it would be weak to poison cause food poisoning, Bug cause bugs eat leftover foods and Ground cause when food is dropped to the ground its easily contaminated.
It would be immune against ghost cuz ghosts cant eat so they basically cant touch food
It would be strong against Fairy i just think fairy needs a new weakness lol and Grass cuz of vegetables.
Ah yes. Snakewood. With the disease type
Where’s my dragon type Eevee Gamefreak

I cannot unsee the Torn Up snorlax.
Pikachu type: only given to one very specific special event Pikachu, making it immune to every type💀
Constantly seeing people suggest a light type is tiring.
I want all the old regional mechanics added to the game (in a Battle Tower like facility that lets you and your opponents use one of the various mechanics)!
Dark isn’t just “Evil” in Japanese
The word (depending on context and script) can mean evil or absence of light
I feel like a new type would be cool, but I also think people need to be more creative
Like, we already got fairy and dragon type, maybe we can cet another type based on mystical/fairytale creatures (like gnomes, mimics and maybe even wepons!)
Again, Fairy type got that role for mystical creatures. That's why Grimmsnarl is Fairy type: not because he's cute or light-hearted, but because he's a fairytale creature
Who’s gonna tell him about the fan game with like 300+ types and Pokémon with 3 types at once
There's actually a fan game that adds light, cosmic and sound based Pokemon. And yes. It makes the type chart so much more confusing.
What we need is Pokémon of every type combo

Anyway, yes, there actually is a bunch of Fairy moves that imply that Fairies are often associated with Light.
I really don’t think there needs to be new types
I think sound definitely makes more sense as a move category than a type. Like cuts/bullets/punches, vibrations are something you can do via pretty much any element
I think Light type can be its own type without overlapping with Fairy.
Dark type is actually more just "evil" or "mischief" type, and I feel that because of that, that Fairy is not the best counterpart since in general they can be mean and mischievous too.
Light type, similarly to Dark, could be a type that represents not only literal light, but also a type that embodies righteousness, justice, judgement, ascension or the divine, etc. Fairy doesn't really go into that territory much, if at all so I think it'd be very interesting and open up opportunities for many design ideas and concepts.
I feel like light type would just be an overlap and combination of fighting Normal and Fairy. Fighting types usually are fair fighters and use their brute strength for the win, hence why they beat dark the cheaters. This would the righteous you talked about in the hypothetical light type
Idk it just seems to not fit in considering fairy. Besides we do not need a direct contrast to dark

Pokemon Nuclear gave us the Nuclear type, it was the worst way to go about it because the only type that resists and be weak against it is Steel when it could’ve been a lot more creative with it’s strength and weaknesses based on what pacifies it and what it decimates.
I feel like the most likely to be added are sound and cosmic. Like those ideas are popular for a reason. Plus you could easily work them to buff ice and bug types
I just want sound type honestly. It just makes so much sense.
Pokemon too many types (mod by alpharads team): hey
Bug and fighting are also sort of heroic types
Yes, we need a sound type to bring balance and knock those fairies down several peggs, and maybe a crystal type for fun.
Super effective against: fairy {cause it needs to suffer}, Fight {can't concentrate when there's noise},
Psychic {can't study when there's noise}, Water {sound travels better under water}
Ghost {noise disturbs ghosts}
Resisted by: Grass {shouting at grass does nothing}, Bug {shouting at bugs either does nothing or makes them more aggressive},
Dark {sound can't travel in a vacuum} ,Ice {snow blocks sound}, Ground {earth blocks sounds},
Flying {strong air currents muffle sounds}
Resists: Steel {a metal rod can't hit a sound wave}, Water, fairy, Fight
Weak to: Electric {power surges destroy sound equipment}, Dragon {never wake a sleeping dragon},
Ghost {ghosts mess with sound equipment}, Bug {insects get into sound devices and destroy them}
In the first seconds of this short, it had exp share crossed out, but if we could just be able to turn it off, it would be fine!
