Another way is to change the *cloner form* (the bottom most part of the cloner) to object and then put your object in there. It just makes your workspace cleaner and without having to have to calculate more with the volume effector ~ it also works with multi instance btw
this works WITHOUT ANY NEED to create the cubes, as long as you put the volume it makes those squares. there was no reason whatsoever for u to make that clonner with cubes

you can skip the volume effector and set the shape to "object" in the cloner settings. That saves a lot of calculation time.
