I've never been especially careful about roots when I transplant seedlings, especially if they've become root bound. I get better results from breaking up and untangling roots rather than leaving them how they grew in their pots. As long the plants isn't one that hates being transplanted (e.g. beans), my plants don't seem to suffer much from losing a few roots. Often they benefit.
E.g. One year I planted petunias a variety of ways. Some I babied and planted them directly from their individual cells, others I lightly teased their roots, and the rest I raked with a fork and removed about 10% of their total mass. The babied plants barely grew and came out of the ground the same way they went in (as a soil plug) after 4 months of growing. The plants with teased roots did exponentially better and grew 10x larger than the babied plants. The plants that had their roots raked were some of the largest, healthiest petunias of 64 total I planted that year. And I got similar results from my tomatoes, peppers, and several annuals.
Surper fantastic gardener ❤🎉so glad I found you 😊
You are absolutely right about the night time temperatures. It takes just one night where the forecast says 4 C and ends up being 0 C to destroy a tomato plant. And you are also right about the GRADUAL hardening. I have learned from my own mistakes in the past. Love your videos.
We have all been there, right? The homestretch is so hard to endure!
Mother’s Day is usually a good marker for our area. Southern Ohio.
Yes, same here! Zone 7
I’m a first time gardener at 70 yo. I used Winter Sowing because of a lack of space and funds for all that is involved with starting seeds indoors. I’m in NC 7b. I had only a few nights I was concerned with temps after germination. A blanket over the milk jugs was all they needed. No. I will never buy a grow light. I’ll use Mother Nature, thank you. The natural exposure to temperatures, light and wind gave me the healthiest plants I could ask for. Today, 5.12.23, my tomatoes are almost 3 ft. tall. They’ve been planted over a month.
It's in the description above. Pasted here: Use TRUEFOODTV to get 5% off my ChiLED Grow Lights: chilledgrowlights.com/?ar=127
@@markdjolly no. Do you read?
I use a fan inside while they grow
I was just about to write a comment "is it my screen, or it is a potassium deficiency", and you pointed out to this plant yourself. How good of you to put it on display and make an example out of it for other to see.
Thank you, Stan! I think it's very important to keep it real.
First time we have a disagreement Lady.
I put my tomatoes out past the frost date, But only with a 10 day forecast of above 45 low temperatures and soil above 50 degrees and filling very safe and I'm seeing growth within 3 days in my seedings.
Peppers need warmer, Soil temperatures 60s plus, Air temperatures need 50s usually 1.3 weeks after tomatoes.
Agree with the rest of this video as all your other great information, This is our first disagreement so yeah I still your fan
I put water in trays and after a minute should help get them out
Thanks
I consider myself an experienced gardener, I got schooled today! Thanks teach!
Glad I could help!!
Instead of cutting and wasting the plastic pot, go for 2.5 inch PVC pipe pieces on necessary length.
This organised on a proper support allows you to plant it directly along with the pipe segment. No root damage + you can reuse pipe piece any number of time.
I love hearing Nicole talking about buds, grow lights and big harvests! 😎
Delving into growing is an excellent idea! Richter Herbs has a good catalog of herbs, particularly Medicinal herbs, the largest supplier I've seen yet. Strictly Medicinal has a smaller selection but sometimes extras. Consider anise, it's used in flavoring as well as fish biting stimulant as is asafoetida, which the latter tastes between onion and garlic but also used to prevent gas and was an excellent fish attractant too. I mention this as catering to fisherman and fisherwomen is good.
This video was very helpful
🤔 I did not know we have to introduce plants so slowly to the outdoors .
Q - is 50 Fahrenheit = 10 Celsius ?
That seems still to chili in regards to the weather but I’m not sure ?
I'm so glad the video was helpful! To clarify, 10 C as the lowest nighttime temperature. It should be much warmer during the daytime.
Hi Nicole,
Thank you for sharing your helpful tips.
Thanks, as always, for watching, Michael!
@@TrueFoodTV So welcome ☀️🌻
Hi there, haven't caught one of your videos for a while and always enjoy seeing you. You really do baby your seedlings, I don't have trouble being much less cautious. I never worry about too much sun as long as they don't go dry and I have great results every year, except for radishes and cilantro, which seem to bolt on me and then the radishes get too spicy and woody to eat.
I wasn't familiar with male blossoms, but I will try to pull some of those off this year and see how that goes :-)
Yes, zucchini have male and female blossoms. Ideally they bloom at the same time, but often the male bloom first in the beginning.
Great to see you again! Please make one more video on various Avocado 🥑 variety , the most nutritious fruit
Very nice idea
Hi, you recommended indoor grow light in the past. Would you link it for me again? thank you so much for sharing your expertise.
Yes, the link is in the description! ChilLED Grow Lights.
What if you work are not home to move your plants in and out during the day?
Just found this channel & I am soul grateful!!
I love the idea behind where does our food come from; I have started imagining what this whole process was like as I am cooking or before eating & it’s been so fruitful! So cool to see this being portrayed so wonderfully & detailed here! Thank you 🙏🏼
nice video as always. something had been bugging me for months, nicole seemed familiar to me (but with a different voice) as if i had seen her on tv acting or something, had a memory . then today i came across a tv rerun of Two & half men. There you have an english actress with the name of sophie winkleman. 95% identical, doppelganger . for me it is mystery solved, OCD satisfied. maybe this helps someone else's OCD with faces. I can now watch these videos in peace.
Thank you for posting this! RIGHT ON TIME for my flower seedlings! They are having their morning sunshine right now. :)
Hardening is difficult for those who work away from home. Any ideas?
Yes, that's tricky! I would say if you could leave the plants outside in the shade, maybe in a protected place like a patio against the house, that's better than nothing. Then at least the plants are feeling the wind and getting some indirect sun.
You should go on tour at comedy clubs!
Thanks for this new content!!! Keep creating and amazing work on what to do to avoid killing my plant brothers and sisters
🙌
Some of have jobs to do and family to take care
Words for the algo
No, Mark, sorry I haven't!
I feel stupid after watching an excellent 😅 video. I just don't have a green thumb.
Aw, don't feel bad. It's a learning process for all of us!
Can’t take the constant spamming of stories. Most of the time it’s just a thinner notification wedged in between normal sized videos in my subscription list, with no actual story there. I don’t want to see stories. I hate them. Since UA-cam won’t allow me to permanently disable them, and since you keep spamming them, you leave me no choice but to unsubscribe.
Idk about you but I’ve seen males turn into fruits. Budum tshh! 🥁
Yeh dont water the soil like nature haha and plastic pots u dont even reuse cause your worried about some roots thats wastefull poor advice
