Thanks.....my kid car had a misfire / engine vibration problem especially at low speed / idle conditions. In his case the check engine light came on and off once a second. P0300 & P0304. We removed the solenoid pack for cylinder 4 spark plug. We did a simple ohm resistance test on the primary (.5 ohms and secondary 7,100 ohms + -15%) ignition coil test. Sure enough the high voltage side of the coil was a open circuit. We replace the coil and started the car. Immediately the engine vibration was gone and all was happy. Our biggest issue in this effort was releasing and removing the ignition coil electrical connector. That took 25 minutes to figure out where and how to squeeze and release clip mechanism worked.

There is no way to feel what causes a misfire - feeling the misfire is easy plus changing two factors at a time is a horrible diagnostic method

With my Daughters car, oil on the bottom of the coil as you had. Replaced only the boot on the coil, and voila! it was fixed for far less than the cost of an entire coil.

My 2006 Toyota Matrix XR with 117k miles does random misfire on cold start every morning. I wonder as to what problem is. Great video Hector 10/10.

I have a p0300 code on a Nissan 350z 04 what could it be? I was thinking it could possible be the catalyst converter or the coils packs not the plugs cause I recently replaced them.

You said that #2 coil smelled of oil?! If so, should have replaced the valve cover gaskets also. I have found that the gasket around the spark plug/coil area of the valve cover will leak and cause a miss fire also. In the past I have found out that when people use after market electrical parts like coils and fuel pumps they have a tendency to fail a lot sooner than OEM. Good video.

My 2000 Avalon showed p030 code and the engine light is flashing. Did change my sparks and coils today and the mechanic reset the light , but after I drove off the light came back on. Not sure what to do

I bought a Matco little God pen as I call it for $26. It has saved me some time and allowed me to cut my diag time on a bad coil to two minutes or less

I'd rather swap parts to diagnose rather than fire the parts cannon.
